I cannot get enough of this song!!! It still melts me every time I hear it. I still prefer the more dreamy version from Red Rocks, but the more impassioned ending is growing on me ;)
"Because there can NEVER be too many clips of this." Well said, Craig :D
This is a great video. Seems like he's going with the more impassioned ending in live...I wonder how the album version would be. Dreamy or impassioned both works for me.
Just a guess, but I'm thinking that the Red Rocks version is not so soaring because he was still suffering from a sore throat, and that this is the way it's meant to be sung.
Considering that the other videos taken after he started to recover all have a much more impassioned singing style, and much more drawn-out vocals.
I know in Red Rocks, he didn't do the really long notes on "prayers for rain" or FTEOTDGS either.
Rev - I suspect that you are right and that the "soaring vocals" are the way the song is meant to be sung. But I, for one, really like the dreamy Red Rocks vocals.
Heron, I almost forgot about the fact that he was suffering from a sore throat back then. His voice in the Oh Hell Yes mix sounds quite good. Like Elise said, it's quite dreamy, while the new ending is more powerful.
I really love his singing in the new songs - IMO his voice is in the best shape in years.
Wow, we finally have a rare recording that seems fast to becoming a historical moment in cure bootlegging..I like how this song has developed the "oh hell yes mix" tag much like Tianammen Square Faith.
I can't wait to hear the studio version of UTS, which will be in 16 short weeks, damn that's a long time. This is such a perfect Cure song, it embodies everything I love about this band. It's that classic lush 90's Cure sound that I never get tired of. If you told me this came from the Wish sessions I would believe it without question.
God they sound so fucking good! Robert's vocals are incredible.
This is officially my Favorite Song Ever.
Yes, I even like the Tortured Cat version. I think they changed the ending in order that it fit on the upbeat Sept. album, no? Or perhaps at Red Rocks it was just the cold thing, who knows.
They blew me away with this performance to open the show Friday.....I had goose bumps....And as I told Craig in my first "note", Robert's 6 string bass lines are beautiful in this song!!! I absolutely love it..
Perfect Boy was awesome too, and Baby Rag..... Only ONe was sharp, and Sleep was Great, but I think he forgot a few lyrics at the beginning...
I still am not onboard with Freakshow, but maybe, just maybe, it will grow on me...
it just keeps getting better and better. it's funny...for me, it used to be more like, "i hope to hear faith tonight!!!" and now it's more like, "i hooooooooope they open with UTS stars in tampa, sunrise or gwinnett!!!" seriously though, if i hear this live? it'll make my life.
Yes, you may actually be able to hear me on those recordings: just listen for someone screaming "SIMON I WANT YOUR BABIES" or "JE VOUS AIME." If you hear either of those, then turn up the sound and you should be able to hear the sound of grinding teeth: mine! :)
Really, Craig, I may make a lot of noise here, but at a Cure show I'm quiet as a mouse - completely enraptured. o:)
Sure you were, Craig. I know you have me pegged as some screaming crazed fan who throws her underwear on stage. (I can't think why you would have that impression of me.) ;)
Craig - The quality is good, it is in FLAC (that means huge files). Don't know about V, but you can certainly hear the "Oh hell yes!" guy in several tracks!
Rev. - I don't know if it is the same version as I don't have a Dime account.
i hope it makes the cut too. it has to! it would be unjust if it didn't. of course if they want to release it as a b-side on 12" clear vinyl a'la high at some point, i'd be fine with that too. :)
I finally had a chance today to watch all the videos from the shows last week. UTS has to be the best new song! It has to be on the New Album in Sept. If not, it will be such a shame!

ReplyDeleteElise: You must like the Red Rocks version better because you can hear me cheering in it! :) (But no, I'm not the "Oh hell yes!" guy! :D )
ReplyDeleteElise - I could watch/listen to this forever, and never grow tired of it. Glad to hear that you're warming up to the "soaring vocals" version. : )
ReplyDeleteBTW - got them burned today and they'll be on their way soon. : )
Craig - you're too sweet for words :)
ReplyDeletev - I'm sure that is the reason that I like this version best!

ReplyDeleteI am loving UTS as well. It's my favorite new song, TPB comes in second. Don't like BRDB, but it is energetic and works very well live.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I found a complete recording of the Red Rocks concert, that I can upload somewhere if there is any interest.
msp - I'm interested. how's the quality? can you hear V screaming throughout the show? : )
ReplyDeleteNovember, we are going to the Sunrise show too! What seats do you have? We should have a COF Kittens reunion!
ReplyDeletemsp, I am interested also. Is it the same source as the one out on Dime?

And msp000, I'd love to hear the recordings. :)
V - you know I'm kidding with you. : )
ReplyDeleteSure you were, Craig. I know you have me pegged as some screaming crazed fan who throws her underwear on stage. (I can't think why you would have that impression of me.) ;)
ReplyDeleteHeehee. Of course I know you were joking.

I'll let you all know when I have a link for it.
i hope that this song makes the final cut on the record- it's been a really long time since a cure song has made me extremely emotional.
ReplyDeletexbilly.
I swear, I'm going to screen print some shirts in the "The Only One" font that simply say, "Oh Hell Yes!" I'm thinking COF colors. ;)

ReplyDeletenovembertrilogy: if you make any shirts then let me be the first to place my order now!
