From Antti: "Another epic night! Bumped into Alison from Cranes during the gig. She is so lovely. "

From Journey to the Center of My Record Collection: "Just got to the apollo. Could see the merch stall through the door and it's the same t shirt as last night so a fair bet that we get a similar set."

JC/Perfect.Murder will be providing the live setlist reports again tonight, but for the first time in ages, Olivier will be not be at the show. :( So if anyone would be willing to be backup tonight, I'd really appreciate it. Email me at craigatcof (at) gmail (dot) com or @CraigatCoF on Twitter. Thanks!

And don't get all mad and upset if the show is similar to last night. The t-shirts make it very clear (Top artwork, dates for all 3 nights on it) that these are Top 30th anniversary celebration shows, not Trilogy 3. Don't expect Head on the Door in full tonight. Unless you get there and see a HotD t-shirt for sale. :) Would love to be proven wrong, though! Just lower expectations a bit, and don't complain if they don't do HotD tonight, and Kiss Me tomorrow.

Have a wonderful time tonight!

  1. really hope the setlist is similar, I love The Top and tonight is going to be my only show of the 3, would love to hear all these songs live again, well especially Piggy in the Mirror, and The Top ;) First time I saw the Cure was in 1984 too, so this is so special...

    1. I'm 99% sure you'll get all of The Top tonight, and probably most of the other songs as well. Maybe mix up a few of the songs though. Maybe Baby Screams instead of Kyoto? Maybe If Only Tonight We Could Sleep instead of Like Cockatoos? Something like that.

  2. My concern is since they have now played Top in full, and are rooting through bsides and Head, KM songs - the 'official' trilogy shows will never happen.

I think it's great people in London got to see The Top.. but what about the rest of us?

    1. They played Reflections "2 times only!" in Sydney. How'd that end up?

These are Top 30th anniversary shows, not Trilogy 3. Look at the shirt. If they play all of HotD tonight, I'll take it back. But I bet they don't.

    2. Absolutely nothing about these shows precludes a Trilogy 3 tour or shows. Nor does it promise one, either.

Stop over-thinking it all and just enjoy!

    3. nooooooo, craig, noooooooooooo! when i think of '84 i think of robert on lysergic, playing a slide whistle with a giant pink bow wrapped around his head and i need that in my life!! so good Hhhhhhhhh..

  3. Hopefully these are working rehearsals for these songs and trilogy shows in the US will be announced. But I think it's more likely RS is just unofficially working through these albums live....

    ReplyDelete
  4. Another thought is they are playing The Top in full now so they can just do a Head/KM tour ....Top isn't a popular album in the US. Play it now, and tour the other 2

    1. Funny That ? The Top is massive in South America.

      Delete
    2. The Top is absolutely underrated. I remember buying it the day after the concert in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 1987.

      Delete
    3. I saw them in Los Angeles in 2011 where Robert said, "See you next year for The Top." Then again Los Angeles fans tend to know the obscure stuff that maybe Miami fans don't.

      Delete
  5. Keep the The Top stuff, shuffle the other raritities and standards and stick Figurehead in. That'll do me!

  6. They're sounding so punchy and together.. Why, oh why, oh why, oh WHY!!!! Won't they use this energy in the blimmin' studio?!??
Robert! You're becoming everything you swore against in the summercure 2012 interviews..

  7. Got some note from last night, not sure if they have already been reported but they are kinda fun little footnote to an historic show.

Robert did announce early that the set was going to be Top heavy.

Before playing wailing wall he said to the audience to guess what song it was going to be.

The whole seated area stood up for Close to me and didn't sit back down until Before Three. I've been to the Apollo for a few gigs and thats the only time I've seen the seated area rise to their feet so early.

After Before Three Robert announced he fucked up the lyrics.

During Primary he began to sing Jingle Bells after "quickly changed the tune". Which had me in stitches.

    1. Yep, these infos should be added by Craig in the setlist

      Delete
  8. I think you're right Craig, they'll just mix the setlist a little but the core should be the same... the t-shirts were quite obvious, even if with Robert you never know what's going to happen!
As far as I'm concerned, I hope not to have more heart attacks :) and to all those who are going, have an amazing night, enjoy it as much as possible!

  9. I'm a total idiot and regret not picking up a tshirt at the show last night. It was one of the best gigs, The Cure or otherwise, that I've been to, and it would nice to have some sort of memento from the show, especially as it was so special. I know this is a long shot, but if someone would be willing to help me out, you can contact me by email paulk at leftlion dot co dot uk or on twitter @heypawl. I will obviously cover all the costs involved. Some snaps from last night are on my IG http://instagram.com/heypawl - Thanks!

  10. It's a little known fact but "Never Enough" is an angst ridden anthem about trying to pick a set list to keep all Cure fans happy.

  11. Just got to the apollo. Could see the merch stall through the door and it's the same t shirt as last night so a fair bet that we get a similar set.

  12. Ok. The tribute to the top was predictable but i hope in other surprises for tonight and tomorrow: happy the man, throw your foot, the exploding boy, a chain of flowers, how beautiful you are, the snakepit, all i want...

    ReplyDelete
  13. if anyone going tonight or tomoz could pick me up some badges - mine got taken out my pocket last night from some lovely individual - i'd be really grateful .. :)

  14. I 'll paypal you ofcourse fr the money :)

  15. Grrr, nearly 10 past and and also the trees arent on yet. We better not get less cure as a result!

    1. I wouldn't worry. They broke curfew last night, so Robert doesn't seem to mind paying the fines. As long as The Cure start by 8:10 or so, it should be fine.

  16. Hope all of you that are lucky enough to go either tonight or tomorrow have a great time.
Went last night, and enjoyed it as much if not more than I ever did.
When you are watching them perform like that you realise that all the talk about recording and releasing new material, the gripes about the festival setlists, the frustration at all the shelved projects that seem destined never to see the light of day, really don't matter.
Their live shows are just wonderful, truly they are, and if thats 'all' we are going to get from them, then lets just be thankful for that.
Just needed them to play 'The Only One' for it to be perfect Craig :)
    'Always wanting more....................'

  17. Roger mentioned about a month or so ago in his FB that he would have a hard time learning all these songs in a relatively short time of rehearsals. So I guess there will be a lot of other surprises... I'd really like to see 6 different ways (possible), How beautiful you are (possible) and a couple others... why not Icing sugar? Sugar Girl? (a dream!)...
I don't think they would make a different merchandise for each day because of a different setlist, the merchandise probably will stay the same but the setlist might have some changes.
And if this was the actual new trilogy, it would be announced as such wouldn't it? Perhaps a warm up, but not the real thing.

  18. Going tomoz and really really want to hear burn live ..........

  19. and i forget the real big surprise: FOREVER!!!

  20. keep on joking... 7 songs: 3 from the top, 3 from thotd and 1 from kmkmkm...

    ReplyDelete
  21. ... 8 songs: 4 the top, 3 thotd and 1 kmkmkm ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Forever hasn't been played since... forever?

    ReplyDelete
  23. So far it seems like it will be the same set list as yesterday, only in a different order. Hard to complain though when it's such an excellent selection of songs.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ? its different already - push , inbetween days ..

  25. Fantastic gig last night. In nearly 30 years that was one of the best I've been them do. The Top is my favourite album and I never thought I'd hear half those songs in a show, let alone the whole record. So glad he's finally re discovered this album which he seemed to have forgotten about for so long.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm glad to see that RS is wearing the "lunar landscape" shirt again.

    ReplyDelete
  27. well well - night 2 sees TIB in the main setlist?! I like where this might lead to, for the rest of the encores!

    ReplyDelete
  28. One question; why has 'Bloodflowers' been ignored by this lineup?

Every other album has seen representation over the past year, but not that one...

    ReplyDelete
  29. 'Dressing Up' has to be coming... how could they skip it tonight, that would be silly

    ReplyDelete

    1. Surprised we haven't seen 'Happy the Man', or 'Throw Your Foot' yet over the past two nights...more relevant than Man Inside My Mouth (which is the worst of the 84 - 85 bsides imo)

      Delete
    2. I would love to see Throw Your Foot. Always reminds me of the Starting at the Sea: The Images where the guys are goofing around.

    3. Craig...not whining, just adding to the discourse. I think the set is fantastic, and people in London are very very lucky. But nothing wrong with discussing the potential?

      Delete
  30. I can't wait for a good quality Birdmad Girl video from either tonight, yesterday, or tomorrow.

  31. Pictures of You? Did someone tell RS backstage you need to play a hit or something, lol? Odd choice

    1. Because the 'happy' side of Disintegration hasn't been played enough. Come on Bobby hit us with something really unexpected...

  32. Dressing Up, there she is... a little shy tonight, but she finally showed up to the dance ;)

  33. Wonder who will be paying the curfew fine for tomorrow. I'm hoping they all chip in so we get a 4-hour show. Mmmmm.... memories of Wembley 1989. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Another 40 song set, with (just the) three changes - but honestly with a set-list like this, who's complaining. Can't wait for tomorrow!

  35. Hey, Eric hasn't yet chimed in with his usual cheer. I wonder if he's feeling alright. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Another great show!

"Hey You! Yes You! Thank You! Good Night!"

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think these set lists are great, and I hope to hear them soon myself even if I couldn't be there. Still hope for a Faith or a Forever it's never enough, never enough. But I'll take what I can get!

  38. these shows have me grinning like an idiot! fantastic sets from the best band ever!!

ps: would anyone be willing to get me a t-shirt? the top is in my 3 fave albums (thanks for even reading that, btw. obviously i would pay you back. i hate asking but if you don't ask...)

  41. Hi,Craig. Thank you for always reports. Well, earlier I found a pic of Simon's bloody bass! Did he injure his finger on that stage? I'm worried about him. Please tell me if you know about it.

    1. Yes, he's fine. Just part of being an amazing bassist. He pours his heart into it, and sheds blood for all of us. :)

Haven't posted the photo since it's from Eden Gallup's Instagram, and I believe that's a private account.

    2. Also, that was from the 1st night, and as you can see, he was just fine at the 2nd night.

So I know that pic posted Eden account, I didn't reprint it.

  43. I thought last night was even better than Sunday, though that might just be because I went down the front. There was much more space than at the back at the atmosphere was great and there was a lot of dancing and even more dancing to ‘Play for Today’, etc. There was a wee bald guy that just bounced the entire night. The band seemed in great spirits and good humour and it was funny that Robert responded to my slightly drunken (& in good humour) boo to introducing happy Disintegration songs. I was fairly bored by the second night at RAH and it speaks volumes that I can’t wait for more of the same tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I thought the flow of the set was much better on Sunday. Last night seemed to stop and start quite a bit. Hoping for something a little different tonight. Jason now seems to be behaving himself on the drums but I find his drumming style lacks subtlety when compared to previous drummers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For me he is still the best drummer The Cure ever had... :-P

      Delete
  45. I remember thinking that Jason's drumming was great last night. Reeves was great on things like Never Enough also. He also now looks like a cross between a character from a Herge book and someone from a Gerry Anderson programme. Which is a good thing.

  46. what a stellar show, one of the best indeed and reminded me a bit of the first time I saw them in 1984, it almost had a time machine quality to it. the songs from that era still pack a powerful punch and exude not a little mystery, all of which infused the amazing atmosphere last night. so good to see them in a relatively intimate space where you could stand right in front of the band and everyone was wigging out. was heartening to see quite a few youngsters among the crowd, I was quite young when I first saw them and they can't have been much older... so so great, thank you the Cure!

hey you! yes you! you're the one that looks like x-mas xxx

    1. Last night was f* amazing. Much better than Sunday, much more energy in the crowd.
Funny to be standing next to the same people for 2 nights in a row as well, all so close to the stage.
I know which kids you're talking about. These 2 guys were having a blast!
