2nd encore: Dressing Up, The Lovecats, Catch, The Caterpillar, Close To Me, Hot Hot Hot, Let's Go To Bed, Why Can't I Be You?, Boys Don't Cry, 10:15 Saturday Night, Killing An Arab.
End of another epic, surprising Cure show in Mexico. Wow!
Have we all learned our lesson now? Next time The Cure announce a show in Mexico, we all go!!! Also, a note to Robert...El Paso is practically in Mexico. I mean it's right on the border. So, we get a Mexican style setlist, right? :)

The Cure...back in Mexico again...anything else need to be said? Of course it will be a great show. All Cure shows in Mexico are fantastic. Many are epic. So, yeah, tonight should be quite good.
The band are scheduled to start at 9PM tonight, and I would assume they are playing at least a 3 hour set. Possibly something similar to the Honolulu show? US start times are 10PM eastern, 9PM central, 8PM mountain, 7PM pacific. See the current time in Monterrey here.
Live reports tonight should be from Olivier at It's A Perfect Day, but would like to have some backup in case the signal fails, etc. So if you're going and wouldn't mind helping me out with the live setlist and reports, please let me know. Thanks and have a fantastic time at the show!
I have a feeling tonight's show will have some surprises. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't even mention surprises or changes in the post, so as not to jinx it. :)
DeleteThank you for The Cure, but now it's time for The Boxer Rebellion:

In teh USA soon, don't miss them.
If they come to New Orleans, I will be there. :)
DeleteYou'll love them Craig, they're awesome live and really lovely guys.
DeleteThis song reminds me of In Between Days and Just Like Heaven.

DeleteTonight indeed will be very special....
ReplyDeleteGreat shorts, Robert.
ReplyDeletePossibly the first time I've seen Robert sans makeup of any kind.
ReplyDeleteChecking in for the live thread - I missed out on Saturday because of other obligations, but I'm ready for tonight!! Big hugs to my Cure family out there, especially the ones at the show!
ReplyDeleteA few surprises would be amazing. It's been great seeing the guys tour again but the setlists have been pretty stagnant.
ReplyDeleteI think that's about to change over the course of the next couple of shows. :)
DeleteCraig, are you going to El Paso?
DeleteI'm very happy to hear that. Looking forward to seeing the setlist. I doubt The Cure will ever play any new material again, but I'm happy to know they may be digging up the back catalogue.
DeleteYou better believe I'm going to El Paso! Voodoo, too.
DeleteExcellent to hear! I'm happy that you finally get to go to see them!
DeleteHappy FOR you - that should say.
ReplyDeletePlainsong, to open?
ReplyDeleteHere in italy it's 4am, i'm going to sleep. I wish a good and spectacular show to all mexican people in Monterrey
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is different!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the Ender if Shake Dog is the opener?? can't remember :)
ReplyDeleteThe Top
DeleteDo you really think they will end with The Top? How long has it been since they did that?
Delete3 times on SummerCure 2012.
DeleteCorrection...played it 3 times. Closed set only 1 time.
DeleteSDS! f-yeah!!!
ReplyDeletefollowed by Fascination Street...very promising!!
DeleteWow, what an odd start. I assume there will be a Disintegration encore of Plainsong, PFR (or SDWAY) and Disintegration
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNow that I see the first hour I know where Robert is going with this tonight. We are getting a pornography encore for sure tonight. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay...I have to stay awake, although its going to be 6 a.m....first time SINKING since??
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting it so soon, oh genius Craig :)
DeleteDamn...forgot about the 3 hour schedule...it's going to be 7 a.m. :/
DeleteSinking!? My fundaroos are soiled.......
ReplyDeleteBirdmad Girl? Okay, I'm never going to sleep again :)
ReplyDeleteI'm just tuning in to CoF from El Paso! I can't believe my eyes. Is this an April Fools setlist!?!?
ReplyDeleteBirdmad Girl?? wow...
ReplyDeleteThe Top / The Head on the Door / Kiss me trilogy coming soon?
ReplyDeleteBirdmad Girl... wow. grail song :)
ReplyDeletewow, awesome !!!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I don't hear anyone complaining now! ;-)
ReplyDeleteMexico!!! So jealous!
ReplyDeleteStop Dead... wow... wow... wow...
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteOK. Now I'm crying.
ReplyDeleteThanks for not being the only one :)
DeleteIsn't it crazy and wonderful that just seeing a list of songs being played can create such emotion? This is why I love the Cure!
DeleteIt's a beautiful thing.
DeleteHey Craig, is it only me or is CoF coming? I'm not even there and I'd die. UNREAL
ReplyDeleteuhhh...whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOOOOAAAAAA!!!
ReplyDelete[just passed out]
I'm pulling off the few hairs I have left...I can't believe Birdmad Girl and Stop Dead!!!!
ReplyDeleteany rumors of where the trilogy concert may be and when craig ???
ReplyDeleteNext year, but no idea where.
DeleteSooo happy for the Mexico show peeps now!! And happy for anyone that gets to go to El Paso!!!
ReplyDelete"You're getting too close! You're getting too close!"
ReplyDeleteRehearsals for the 'next live trilogy' and other surprises... One or two new songs and a bit of 'BF´ tracks and that could be a fantastic show.
ReplyDeleteI'm crying now too. Eff me....
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not there? Why am I not Mexican?
ReplyDeleteAnother historic show for Mexico! I wonder if they'll get 4 hours too!
ReplyDeleteI hope so. For those in Monterrey and for us lurking around here!!!
DeleteScrew the haters. I like Wrong Number.... Lime Green and tangerine!
ReplyDeleteI like it too but PLEASE don't screw Craig! We need him!
DeleteI like it too, although I prefer the acoustic version. It's my wake up in the AM song over breakfast.
DeleteCan you dig it, Craig???
DeleteSure! I can dig it a grave to bury it in. :P
DeleteYeah, please don't screw me! I don't even know you! :)
DeleteI think Wrong Number kicks ass as a live song - but I wouldn't say screw Craig! :p
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThe only "Screw" I care about is from THOTD.
ReplyDelete..and now Give me it.
ReplyDeleteand The top.
Deleteand encore with New Day
DeleteHave they ever played Burn live? or untitled? or closedown? ......praying we get Sinking and pornography encore in El Paso!!
ReplyDeleteAffirmative on Untitled and Closedown. Both are on Entreat.
Delete"Burn" was my first Cure love.
ReplyDeleteSomeone has a crystal ball. What's next??????
ReplyDeleteEpically epping epic show. Truly.
ReplyDeleteEpic Cure show, Red Sox advance.... I'm Happy Happy Happy...
ReplyDeleteThis is making me nervous for El Paso. I'm afraid we are not going to get such ecstasy.
ReplyDelete1/2 of the Top in the main set... pretty cool :)
ReplyDeleteCraig, when was the last time they played Give Me It? 1980s?
ReplyDeleteTHIS is the live Cure the hardcore fans have missed!!! what's next...what's next...
ReplyDeleteTreasure? Craig why are you kidding us? Don't betray out confidence!
ReplyDeleteOMG I'm not going to do anything anymore...
ReplyDeleteI love Treasure...
ReplyDeleteTalk about emotions... what next, Robert??
DeleteOMG!!!!....(TREASURE)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. SadHappySadHappy...HAPPY!
DeleteTreasure takes ya right back to 1996, a pure gem on WMS...
ReplyDeleteUnderrated for sure. I wish I could have seen this live and in person.
DeleteTreasure was the best song on WMS for my money. That and the Thirteenth.
DeleteIMO, Wild Mood Swings had a bunch of great songs. Definitely underrated, Jrock.

ReplyDeleteCharlotte too? Am I drunk? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteI can just see Fuji up there on the rail, clutching his head with one hand and his camera with the other.
ReplyDeleteHe's gonna be one happy guy!
DeleteI could have been there....knew I'd regret it...this setlist is incredible. Parallelextinction I too am getting nervous. I just pray there's no curfew or by law at the venue, like there is in Canada. All we need now Empty World and wailing wall :-P
ReplyDeleteHave the Cure ever done a performance like this in the U.S? I'm afraid it will be back to business as usual for El Paso. Fingers crossed though....
ReplyDeleteReferring to Don Haskins center btw...
ReplyDeleteIs this set for effing real? Surely they're prepping for the next round of reflections shows with all the rarely/never played 80's stuff? Wow... amazing!
ReplyDeleteNope - El Paso is going to get something very very similar to this. Now lets put to rest all the whining and complaining about these boring festival sets. The festivals are for EVERYONE, and the includes super casual fans or music lovers in general. Us life-long die hards can go for the enjoyment of being at a festival - but FFS quit acting like its some travesty if a rare track isnt played.
ReplyDeleteThe boys have clearly shown, they can dust off the deep album cuts better than any other band on this planet.
yes yes
DeleteNostalgia circuit? Not yet ...
ReplyDeleteThe Cure just flipped the script on us all. Touche... More please!
ReplyDeleteOpen/End or Plainsong/Disintegration - nah let's go with Shake Dog Shake & The Top! should additional surprises be in store tomorrow night I'd die for M, The Figurehead, Piggy In The Mirror, The Snakepit, Babble, Out Of This World... nothing wrong w/Play For Today, Other Voices, Charlotte Sometimes, Birdmad Girl, A Night Like This, Sinking... however!
DeleteGotta love a band who can pull this kind of setlist out of the bag and barely break a sweat.
ReplyDeleteAnd you have to love a band that can be around for over 30 years and play a song they have never played live on stage before!
DeleteYou know it, Rev.
DeleteOk the singles encore. As far as I am concerned this show is over unless we get faith and or forever. With a set this good there had to be a weakness to appeal to the masses
ReplyDeleteThat clip of Stop Dead is superb ... I was at the Trilogy shows in Berlin. Definitely going to the 2014 Trilogy shows if there's breath left in me.
ReplyDeleteOK I'm moving to Mexico. Not only it's safer but they have much better setlists over there.
ReplyDeleteI second that.
DeleteThis setlist is making my heart pound! I hope it's a special night for everyone there.
ReplyDeleteCatch too? Love it!
ReplyDeleteIf I were in the arena tonight I would have died from sheer happiness at least ten times already.
ReplyDeleteI second that.
DeleteWailing Wall, Piggy, and Empty World all that's left of The Top. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, we get those in El Paso. :)
DeleteI hope we get those in ELP!
Deleteadd Wailing Wall and Sugar Girl and you can do whatever you want with my dead body.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha.
Deletethe last I remember personally seeing Piggy, live, was at one of the Forum shows in LA on the Swing Tour.
ReplyDeleteKyoto Song. Please? ?
ReplyDelete40+ songs... oh my! oh my, indeed :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a band!
i know!! who else does this?? and who else plays B SIDES!!! for pete's sake....crazy
DeleteIt is a Faith ending show
ReplyDeleteKAA - that arena is rockin' now!!
ReplyDeleteWish we were there. ..
DeleteCurrent mood seems to be "curfew? Who cares?"
ReplyDelete43
ReplyDeleteYou know the old proverb, never count your Cure songs until Robert says "Thank Q! And good night." :)
Deletemy, god. it's full of stars. excuse me while i sob into this mountain of kleenex. i am shocked and surprised in the most wonderful, wonderful way. :*) jeez...
ReplyDeletei was half expecting robert to launch into an extra smooth and slinky version of "didn't i (blow your mind this time)"! holy christ.
ReplyDeleteOh wow... that's all I can say.
ReplyDeleteSofiaaaaaa! How the hell are you?
ReplyDeleteapril :) good to great. but mellow to sad after not being able to attend any of these shows! how are you??
ReplyDeleteGreat! Are you still loving portland?
ReplyDeletealways loving portland! we should set up a curefan getogether
Deleteplease robert! similar set in el paso too!
ReplyDeleteThis is why we love The Cure! This is a setlist! Enjoy El Paso!
ReplyDeleteStop Dead? Treasure? woah... I literally dropped my jaw while talking to my colleague at work.
ReplyDeleteRobert must've been in a reaaaally good mood
So some call it yet another "Business" Tour, ey?
ReplyDeleteThink twice :D
What a great suprise!

ReplyDeleteTreasure is a fabulous song. Cannot wait to see that one on video. The setlist is fantastic all round though. I wish I was seeing them.
ReplyDeleteThat`s a joke. I can`t believe that. But that`s Robert...!!!
ReplyDeletewell I guess after this you can all shut up for good. ;) that's the spirit and I knew it!
ReplyDeletebest set list in ages - brilliant
ReplyDeleteWas watching the setlist on COF while at the Xepeche Mode concert in Phoenix. Amazing.... I will always be a Cure-girl, first and foremost.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed El Paso will be almost as good - I won't say no to even better ;)
I hope someone has recorded the show...
ReplyDeleteGreat setlist!
ReplyDeleteJesus they changed the setlist, just when you though it was impossible.
ReplyDeleteJust one problem: Why didn't Tim Pope film THIS show?!!!
The Cure finally dig out in their amazing catalogue. Makes me more than happy for the coming gigs.
ReplyDeleteWell done Robert - good to see you read the comments and took them to heart....so many great songs
ReplyDeleteHoping for some of these gems here at Voodoo...
ReplyDeleteWow - What an amazing setlist! It's like a dream come true. Hope we get something similar tomorrow night! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Someday would fit perfecty between IBD and JLH. And Bloodflowers between OHY and GMI ;))
ReplyDeleteHoly Hell, what a setlist! I hope we get something similar tomorrow night. Maybe a combo of last night's setlist and the setlist from the last time they played at the Austin Music Hall.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Robert is familiar with this blog? If not, he should be.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha...yeah, he might have heard about it a couple of times. :)
DeleteTHE CURE IS A BAND THAT MAKE YOUR EMOTIONS FLOW EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO THEM...YOU ONLY READ THE SET LIST AND YOU SHIVER AND CRY OF PURE EMOTION...ISN'T THAT AMAZING?
ReplyDeleteI hope the major change in the setlist reinvigorates the writing process. Robert is genuinely digging Bird Mad Girl on the video. You see what doing something fresh does for somebody?
ReplyDeleteAmazing setlist. I am personally thrilled to see seven songs from The Top, including five in the main set. I don't know why it gets mixed reviews, but for me, The Top is up there with Pornography and Faith...hand in hand, and is one of my very favorite records of theirs.
ReplyDeleteIn the liner notes to the CD reissue, Smith said that all in all it was probably their worst record. Clearly, he does not feel this way and I think that the real fans of the band know that it is a fucking masterpiece.
Thank you, Robert. Please keep these songs in the setlist. I would kill to hear Birdmad Girl, Give Me It, The Top and the others live. Time to add the last three tracks while you are at it!
You can definitely see it. They seem primed for another set of Trilogy shows [The Top/THOTD/KMKMKM] and the next logical step, to me at least, would be new material. Maybe they've already gotten those creative juices flowing with the free time they've had in between shows this year and last.
ReplyDeleteOops. I meant "Reflections" shows.
ReplyDeleteI am so fucking happy seeing this setlist. I've have been shouting for Give Me It since the first time I saw them in 1989
ReplyDeleteNow all we need is for them to stop playing so many fucking festivals, and get back to playing more Cure only shows like this
ReplyDeleteHop to God someone video'd Give me it and the top
ReplyDeleteSorry to say, but the magic of The Cure has gone.
ReplyDeleteOnce fast and trendy, now slow and old-fashioned.
Their music will live forever, but it is so good to see new young bands creating beautiful music with the same emotions and passion The Cure did 30-20 years ago.
The Top is pretty amazing. The Empty World is superb, and that's just one example.
ReplyDeleteWas fortunate to hear them play Treasure live in 1997.
On another note does it seem like the setlists they have been playing leave a lot of downtime for Reeves?
