9:02 pm - @jmaspire panoramic view from inside Arena

8:58 pm - @jmaspire still lots of people outside, now are getting inside arena.

8:55 pm - @jmaspire My seat view, stage getting ready.

8:50 pm - 10 minutes until Cure showtime, and Olivier says the venue is still 2/3rds empty. WTF?

8:31 pm - @jmaspire stage side view.

8:23 pm - From Reeves on Facebook: "40minutes to showtime in mexico..."

7:45 pm - From Olivier...Stage setup for tonight.

7:33 pm - Fair warning, stop reading if you don't want any potential surprises ruined. This is what was played at soundcheck: Play for Today, Catch, A Night like This, Cold, Prayers for Rain, Strange Day, Shake Dog Shake intro. But Robert says they are not playing them tonight. Right. Or don't, and save them for El Paso. :) Thanks .

6:10 pm - @asantosb backstage at The Cure soundcheck in Monterrey, playing "Play for Today"

5:47 pm - @jmaspire Roger has just signed.

5:30 pm - @jmaspire Monterrey Arena & People waiting in line.

12:01 pm - El Norte has video of a brief interview with Robert at the Monterrey airport. Scroll about halfway down to find it. They also posted a photo of the band arriving, in today's newspaper. And El Horizonte had a photo in today's newspaper, too.
(Thanks @asantosb)

The Cure...back in Mexico again...anything else need to be said? Of course it will be a great show. All Cure shows in Mexico are fantastic. Many are epic. So, yeah, tonight should be quite good.

The band are scheduled to start at 9PM tonight, and I would assume they are playing at least a 3 hour set. Possibly something similar to the Honolulu show? US start times are 10PM eastern, 9PM central, 8PM mountain, 7PM pacific. See the current time in Monterrey here.

Live reports tonight should be from Olivier at It's A Perfect Day, but would like to have some backup in case the signal fails, etc. So if you're going and wouldn't mind helping me out with the live setlist and reports, please let me know. Thanks and have a fantastic time at the show!

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1/2 of the Top in the main set... pretty cool :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Craig, when was the last time they played Give Me It? 1980s?

  48. I can just see Fuji up there on the rail, clutching his head with one hand and his camera with the other.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I could have been there....knew I'd regret it...this setlist is incredible. Parallelextinction I too am getting nervous. I just pray there's no curfew or by law at the venue, like there is in Canada. All we need now Empty World and wailing wall :-P

    ReplyDelete
  50. Have the Cure ever done a performance like this in the U.S? I'm afraid it will be back to business as usual for El Paso. Fingers crossed though....

    ReplyDelete
  51. Referring to Don Haskins center btw...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Is this set for effing real? Surely they're prepping for the next round of reflections shows with all the rarely/never played 80's stuff? Wow... amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nope - El Paso is going to get something very very similar to this. Now lets put to rest all the whining and complaining about these boring festival sets. The festivals are for EVERYONE, and the includes super casual fans or music lovers in general. Us life-long die hards can go for the enjoyment of being at a festival - but FFS quit acting like its some travesty if a rare track isnt played.

The boys have clearly shown, they can dust off the deep album cuts better than any other band on this planet.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nostalgia circuit? Not yet ...

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Cure just flipped the script on us all. Touche... More please!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Open/End or Plainsong/Disintegration - nah let's go with Shake Dog Shake & The Top! should additional surprises be in store tomorrow night I'd die for M, The Figurehead, Piggy In The Mirror, The Snakepit, Babble, Out Of This World... nothing wrong w/Play For Today, Other Voices, Charlotte Sometimes, Birdmad Girl, A Night Like This, Sinking... however!

      Delete
  56. Gotta love a band who can pull this kind of setlist out of the bag and barely break a sweat.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And you have to love a band that can be around for over 30 years and play a song they have never played live on stage before!

    2. You know it, Rev.

      Delete
  57. Ok the singles encore. As far as I am concerned this show is over unless we get faith and or forever. With a set this good there had to be a weakness to appeal to the masses

    ReplyDelete
  58. That clip of Stop Dead is superb ... I was at the Trilogy shows in Berlin. Definitely going to the 2014 Trilogy shows if there's breath left in me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. OK I'm moving to Mexico. Not only it's safer but they have much better setlists over there.

    ReplyDelete
  60. This setlist is making my heart pound! I hope it's a special night for everyone there.

    ReplyDelete
  61. If I were in the arena tonight I would have died from sheer happiness at least ten times already.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wailing Wall, Piggy, and Empty World all that's left of The Top. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. add Wailing Wall and Sugar Girl and you can do whatever you want with my dead body.

  64. the last I remember personally seeing Piggy, live, was at one of the Forum shows in LA on the Swing Tour.

    ReplyDelete
  81. That`s a joke. I can`t believe that. But that`s Robert...!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. well I guess after this you can all shut up for good. ;) that's the spirit and I knew it!

  84. Was watching the setlist on COF while at the Xepeche Mode concert in Phoenix. Amazing.... I will always be a Cure-girl, first and foremost.

Fingers crossed El Paso will be almost as good - I won't say no to even better ;)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I hope someone has recorded the show...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Jesus they changed the setlist, just when you though it was impossible.

Just one problem: Why didn't Tim Pope film THIS show?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. The Cure finally dig out in their amazing catalogue. Makes me more than happy for the coming gigs.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well done Robert - good to see you read the comments and took them to heart....so many great songs

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hoping for some of these gems here at Voodoo...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Wow - What an amazing setlist! It's like a dream come true. Hope we get something similar tomorrow night! Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Maybe Someday would fit perfecty between IBD and JLH. And Bloodflowers between OHY and GMI ;))

    ReplyDelete
  92. Holy Hell, what a setlist! I hope we get something similar tomorrow night. Maybe a combo of last night's setlist and the setlist from the last time they played at the Austin Music Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Does anyone know if Robert is familiar with this blog? If not, he should be.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hahahaha...yeah, he might have heard about it a couple of times. :)

  94. THE CURE IS A BAND THAT MAKE YOUR EMOTIONS FLOW EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO THEM...YOU ONLY READ THE SET LIST AND YOU SHIVER AND CRY OF PURE EMOTION...ISN'T THAT AMAZING?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I hope the major change in the setlist reinvigorates the writing process. Robert is genuinely digging Bird Mad Girl on the video. You see what doing something fresh does for somebody?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Amazing setlist. I am personally thrilled to see seven songs from The Top, including five in the main set. I don't know why it gets mixed reviews, but for me, The Top is up there with Pornography and Faith...hand in hand, and is one of my very favorite records of theirs.

In the liner notes to the CD reissue, Smith said that all in all it was probably their worst record. Clearly, he does not feel this way and I think that the real fans of the band know that it is a fucking masterpiece.

Thank you, Robert. Please keep these songs in the setlist. I would kill to hear Birdmad Girl, Give Me It, The Top and the others live. Time to add the last three tracks while you are at it!

    ReplyDelete
  97. You can definitely see it. They seem primed for another set of Trilogy shows [The Top/THOTD/KMKMKM] and the next logical step, to me at least, would be new material. Maybe they've already gotten those creative juices flowing with the free time they've had in between shows this year and last.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oops. I meant "Reflections" shows.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I am so fucking happy seeing this setlist. I've have been shouting for Give Me It since the first time I saw them in 1989

    ReplyDelete
  100. Now all we need is for them to stop playing so many fucking festivals, and get back to playing more Cure only shows like this

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hop to God someone video'd Give me it and the top

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sorry to say, but the magic of The Cure has gone.
Once fast and trendy, now slow and old-fashioned.

Their music will live forever, but it is so good to see new young bands creating beautiful music with the same emotions and passion The Cure did 30-20 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  103. The Top is pretty amazing. The Empty World is superb, and that's just one example.

Was fortunate to hear them play Treasure live in 1997.

On another note does it seem like the setlists they have been playing leave a lot of downtime for Reeves?
