I'll try to help! I can't guarantee I'll know every b-side though :)
ReplyDeleteThis must be one of the few (if not only) times my local time zone (Pacific) is actually ahead of the time zone of the city where the band is playing. Usually the US west coast is either a little bit behind (compared with, say, other US cities - by 1-3 hours), somewhat behind (compared with, say, most of Europe - by about 8-10 hours), or very far behind (compared with Asia/Australia - by at least 14 hours). This is great for night owls....that is, if one doesn't mind checking the completed setlists at about 2 am (or later) on Monday morning... Who needs sleep anyway? 😴💤 LOL. I actually thought Craig would temporarily suspend the live setlist updates for these shows owing to the time difference but looks like he was still keeping his nose to the grindstone up until the wee hours/ "small hours"?) of the morning yesterday. That's true dedication! (Thanks Craig!) Might be more of a challenge tonight... unless you're lucky enough to have Monday off!
ReplyDeleteNo matter what the time zone, it always feels like A Thousand Hours until the next show! ⏳ Speaking of which, I wonder if the latter is part of the list of rehearsed but yet to be debuted songs?...One of my favorites from KMKMKM. Maybe we'll find out in a thousand hours (or more)?..Works out to about 42 days...📅 just in time for Bestival! LOL. 🕒
(Side note: Since there are already so many KM era songs already being played on the tour, I assume it's probably not likely, but Maybe Someday?)
1,000 Hours is another favorite of mine. Unfortunately it was only ever placed once: in 1987 in California :(
DeleteCoincidentally Maybe Someday is another one of my favorites and it hasn't been played since 2009. Since they haven't played it since Reeves joined he might not even know it. :(
That's a strange coincidence...I too checked setlist.fm out of CURE-iosity and was flabbergasted to discover it has only been played once at the Forum. Surely it was played more than once during the Kissing Tour? I was bit too young to attend the Kissing Tour, but wow, now that I realize that the only time it's ever been played (assuming stats are accurate) was almost in my backyard, I can't help but experience a "so close yet so far" feeling.
DeleteI was also wondering about Maybe Someday...it's not exactly a deep cut so it's a bit puzzling why it hasn't surfaced for at least 6-7 years. I personally would gladly swap out the entire 4th encore of this show, or maybe even both the 3rd and 4th encores, to hear these 2 songs. (Not that there's anything wrong with these encores, but I wouldn't mind foregoing them every once in awhile to hear the more obscure stuff.
Even though I was a youngin' I specifically remember being disappointed when they didn't play 1,000 Hours when I attended the Kissing Tour in NY but like I was surprised it was only EVER played once. It is a BRILLIANT song and very "Cure-esque"
DeletePersonally I would've swapped out 39 for Maybe Someday but I guess Robert feels 39 fits better with Bloodflowers?
But as has been said before even when you're doing 3 hour shows there are always going to be great songs that don't make the cut when you have the catalog The Cure does and speaking of which: I would've really liked to have heard "Cut"
I was at that show in La at the LA Forum second night where they play A thousand hours... Little did I know that they would never play it again on that tour.Or EVER. Could have been because two keyboardist needed to be used to play the song properly and Lol was not very reliable on that tour. Would be great to hear it again I'm sure Roger could play both keyboard Parts on his own

DeleteI like alt.end live! I love this setlists. The cure si The greatest band no earth! Best songs flor me in The tour Kyoto song, allà want, exploding boy, 2 late, charlotte, The same deep water, burn....
ReplyDeleteGood show. Roberts voice sounded especially good. Next show for me..Denmark.We will be so lucky to get Placebo and The Cure in the same week:) Can't get any better than that<3
ReplyDeletefriday im in love, why can't i be you, the walk, lovecats, hot hot hot, lets go to bed, boys don't cry etc. ok. part of the catalogue and part of their history.. but do i literally have to listen to them EVERY TIME i'm attending one of their concerts? WHY do these songs have to continuously end (and ruin) great shows?
ReplyDeleteReally? The songs you've mentioned ruin the show?!
DeleteI don't know how...
Yes you do - unless you go to a show in Germany.
DeleteRobert has said that they play for as long as they do so they can make as many people happy as possible. For every show on this tour the final encore has been pretty much the same so if it "ruins" the show for you why don't you just leave before it starts?
I've seen The Cure about 20x in my life - could I do without hearing Close To Me and Love Song EVERY Time? Do I wish for more obscure songs that I love? OF COURSE - but there is no denying the venues come alive when those songs come on and for a lot of people that may be the one and only time they're getting to see The Cure so I understand why they are played EVERY TIME and I'm just grateful that the band I have loved for 30+ years isn't just still playing but is still KILLING it and giving every show their all.
Yes! AFewHours.. I feel the same!:)
DeleteI'm grateful they are still playing and was able to see them in 2016. Loved every second, every song.
Delete(Seems to be lots of emotions over setlists no fan has any control over. The band can do whatever they want. I don't understand why some fans can't let that go.)
Onwards!
I'm grateful I got to see them also! Loved every song they played!
DeleteHad the time of my life!

thanks stupidshitiseeinflorida for the instagram shares of all those funny bits !!
ReplyDeleteI do not know if it really ruins the show, but low quality considerablemte, especially because these songs sound very different from the original version. Watch the show Bruxelles 2000, where the setlist is of high quality.

ReplyDeleteI just noticed, they didn't play Burn. I haven't been counting and I'm sure there were other shows where Burn wasn't played, but I feel like it was a great idea to play that at most every show because even the most jaded fan can't really gripe about seeing Burn live. I'm curious- as I'm sure most here are, to see how varied the EU shows will be. I'd like to think there are some songs that were held back (or might be added in the interim) OR I'm thinking they may blow minds with complete SS/Faith/Pornography encores... wishful thinking? Yes, yes it is, but still, on the off chance they are reading these comments, I figured I'd plant the seed (again)
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of the Cure for over three decades. I'm at the start of middle aged now. The 2nd night of HNL was my 12th show for this tour. Regardless, I still LOVE THE POP SONGS. Every fucking time. They remind me of my youth, they make me happy, they make me FEEL GOOD. I love to boogie down and sing along with those songs. Judging from the reactions of the crowd, I am NOT ALONE. The best Cure show is the one you leave with tears of joy and complete physical and mental exhaustion. That's how you know you did it right. Robert Smith knows this. That's why we get all the pop songs at the end of the show. This has been the kind of year I will never forget for the rest of my life. To Robert, Simon, Roger, Jason, and Reeves: Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us in N. America and Hawaii this year. It's been wonderful and I hope to see you again someday soon!
ReplyDeleteBTW, the 2nd night of HNL was perfection. The sound, the performance, the smaller crowd. Everything.
DeleteTotally agree parallelextinction! The two Honolulu shows were brilliant! I had so much fun. Everyone was happy, I was thrilled with the whole experience and the music, setlist, Robert, everything was absolutely unreal. I'm back home and at work now but still on a high. I'm so happy!!!
