The Cure at the Hollywood Bowl (05-23-16)

May 23rd, 2016
Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA
Sold Out! / Doors at 5:30 PM Pacific time
The Twilight Sad 7 - 7:40, The Cure 8 - 11
Get there early for The Twilight Sad! They are excellent!
Note: Tonight's curfew is said to be a "hard curfew", meaning the band HAS to stop at 11 or the venue will have to cut them off. Not the usual curfew where the band can go over it and just pay a fine.

Soundcheck: Dressing Up, Exploding Boy, Never Enough, Open

Setlist: Tape / Open, High, Pictures of You, This Twilight Garden, A Night Like This, Lovesong, A Letter to Elise, Last Dance, Fascination Street, The Hungry Ghost, Screw, Lullaby, The Caterpillar, Exploding Boy, In Between Days, Just Like Heaven, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, Want, End

1st encore: It Can Never Be The Same

2nd encore: The Snakepit, Shake Dog Shake, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, A Forest

3rd encore: Step Into the Light, Never Enough, Burn, Wrong Number

4th encore: Hot Hot Hot, Let's Go to Bed, Close to Me, Why Can't I Be You?, Boys Don't Cry

Thanks to Paul K. for the setlist reports.

Thanks Debi. 'Dressing Up' was not played, presumably due to curfew concerns.

There was supposed to be a strict "no cameras other than cell phones" policy last night, but I've heard from several people saying they had no problem taking their cameras in.

And don't forget to try checking at the box office for last minute ticket releases. @namepa100169 & @danieleweinb got pit tickets last night!

If you're going to the show and wouldn't mind sending in the live setlist or anything else, please let me know. Twitter, email, text, Facebook, whatever works best for you. Thanks!

And if you're familiar enough with The Twilight Sad, could you please let us know their setlist? Want to help their fans keep track, too.

  2. Security was pretty lax last night. You had to open up your bag if you had one and that's about it. Was a great crowd last night! Looking forward to a second night tonight!

  3. why the curfew is later on Monday night than Sunday night is a bit confusing to me, but I'll take the extra half an hour of a night time concert.

  4. The bowl is actually a county park (you can visit during the day when it is not in use for an event.) The curfew rules have been in effect for ages and have to do with noise affecting the neighbors who live in the surrounding hills. It's not bad unless the band (looking at you Axl rose) takes their sweet time hitting the stage. There is usually a digital clock on stage facing the band counting down the time to end if show.

    1. It was between 4:30 - 5 pm local time. Ask them to double check for you if they say no. That's what happened last night, people were told no, they asked them to check, and they had them.

  8. This is a fantastic set list. No filler. Love it. Wish-heavy is my bag.

  9. Solid setlist.

These west coast shows are hard for me to stay up for to experience in real time via COF and/or Periscope. It is nice to see what was played the morning after before work though.

    meh. Who needs sleep?

  11. A good mix of songs but somewhat similar to opening night...There is some variation but dare I say it?... some elements were a bit predictable.
Did not catch this show but hope to see the band shake things up setlist-wise for tonight's final show. Would be great to hear more WMS (not just Want) and Bloodflowers...but if not,I suppose it's not the "end of the world"... I am sure these setlists, while not set in stone, have already been predetermined days maybe even months ahead of time.

  12. The 3rd show will probably look like El Paso; Bloodflowers set, Faith encore...

I will say it's time for another 'surprise', the last one was in Vegas (2Late). I would expect a 3rd night to include something different.

And when is Lol getting up on stage for a few songs?

  13. Great setlist and performance! security very lax at gate. nightmarishly long lines for refreshments? totally. lack of camera on Smith was the one neg everyone in lines around us agreed on -cameras were set up for orchestra performance on the left and right of the stage and featured only O'Donnall & Gabrels.

That said: sing and dance your ass off the boys are on fire!

  14. Agree with the 2 posts above. A surprise would be great...Haven't heard Faith yet. Maybe it's being saved for later in the tour. I had previously surmised that Lol would show up at these shows (and why wouldn't he)...had also wondered if he would join the band on stage but doesn't seem likely at this point(but you never know). Security was definitely "hands off" at gate. The lady peered into my bag for 2 seconds then waved me off. I too was frustrated by the lack of cameras on RS, glad I was not the only one who felt this way. The cameras did a great job of capturing images of R. Gabrels and S. Gallup but not the RS. Close up footage of RS would be tremendously helpful for those of us sitting in the nosebleed section (like me) who forgot/misplaced their binoculars.
