  1. Looking forward to show. I predict they will open with shake dog shake like in Gothenburg.

    1. That’s impressive...and it was stated with such confidence. Are you seeing a pattern in the setlists the rest of us don’t see? (or maybe you have “insider” knowledge?) ;) Cure fans seem to be very prescient. A few days ago there was a scope showing Roger leaning into the keyboard and a fan commented that he was preparing to play FTEOTDGS, and sure enough...Not sure how they were able to read between the lines.

    2. Hamburg was like Oslo, so I thought Berlin would be like Gothenburg. I would have preferred the 17seconds encore but Sinking, IWNBTS and dressing up were great, too.

  5. Wow, what a varied combination of songs. I actually expected it to be a bit darker considering the location (not sure why I associate “dark” with Berlin). That’s quite an intense first encore. The setlist photo shows a note next to alt.end: “RS please know this!” Intriguing. Probably an inside joke? It’s not exactly a setlist staple but it’s certainly been played often enough to the point where RS can probably sing it in his sleep. Did he previously screw up the lyrics? (j/k) The lyrics are relatively straightforward/easy to remember so maybe that last question would be considered hogwash (Oink!). As for interpreting the lyrics that is a whole other story...

  7. Some thoughts on the show:
    - it was great to see them, feel their energy.
    - nice to see so many people (younger and older) attending the show
    - Simon's gone "wireless" and he is "all over" the stage now
    - IMO his bass was too loud in the sound mix, often I had to listen really carefully to hear what Reeves and Roger were playing. I love his bass but would like to hear the other guys too
    - I loved the Wish artwork in the background during FIL
    - Personally I would like them to end with A Forest/Faith/Killing an Arab etc. but the pop encore at the end makes a lot of sense: the majority of the people are not die hard fans and it's best to send them home after 3 hours with something they know and love.
    - Robert said something about Jason at the start of the 1st or 2nd encore but I didn't understand it (maybe that he is always the first to come on stage?) Did someone get what he said?
    - Roger didn't throw the tamborine
    - Robert either forget the lyrics at the start of Wrong number or started to sing to early. He stopped and started over after a few bars.
    - On some other song (maybe Deep Green Sea) he also forget some lyrics
    - Always thought the intro to POY is played with two guitars but apparently it's not.
    - This twilight sad were great, too. That bass and the static guitar sound... excellent!

So great to see The Cure live again after 8 years.

    1. Thanks for your firsthand account. It's always interesting to hear from someone who was actually there - they can point out details that the scopes/Twitter feed may have missed. Simon going "wireless"? - LOL. I was also curious to know what was said about Jason. My impression was it wasn't complimentary (but could be wrong). I think he was implying Jason has made it a habit of going MIA during encores(??). On one of the scopes people were commenting that RS forgot some of the lyrics for Deep Green Sea. Not sure about Wrong Number. I'll have to replay the scope again or check YouTube.

  8. When I saw the cure this summer, I thought the bass was loud as well, but I was on the floor up front and thought that might be why it sounded that way to me. It was hard to hear the guitars.

    1. Yea, sound was really crap yesterday. Mercedes Benz Arena is not the best Place for good Concert.

  9. Had a lovely time in Berlin, pretty mad set but it worked where I was (about as far away from the stage as it gets in the place). It was quite relaxed in the gods but it wasn't impossible to wig out and dance up there too if you wanted, people were cool... and it sounded great up there to me. We couldn't really see too much, even on the screens, but the lightshow was quite entertaining. And it was easy to get beers :)

Last time I saw them in Berlin was in 1985 for The Head on the Door tour so it was (good) weird that the set was so heavy on that album. Shake Dog Shake and Give Me It bookending the main set was wonderful too! x
