Videos: Lovesong / Push / Inbetween Days 1 - 2 - 3 / Just Like Heaven / A Forest / If Only Tonight We Could SleepPictures of You 1 - 2 / Bananafishbones 1 - 2 / The Walk / Friday I'm in Love 1 - 2 - 3 / One Hundred Years & The Top / End / The Top 1 - 2 / Dressing Up 1 - 2 / The Lovecats / The Caterpillar 1 - 2 / Close To Me / Just One Kiss 1 - 2 / Robert explains why they can't play longer & Boys Don't Cry 1 - 2

From Johan: "what no one seems to have noted yet is that they were not able to play any longer after pulling off boys don't cry. before that song a crew member came on-stage and told robert they had to end the show. robert listened and agreed with simon that they should play boys don't cry, after that
they quit and went off stage. i guess the reason was for issues with sound level and safety personnel working for too late hrs. i guess the concert ended around 03:30 AM"

00:26 - Currerbell: "Just arrived. And we almost crashed with cure's van in a roundabout! They took the wrong direction! Question is, what would have been sadest? Me killing them or them killing me?"

21:46 - @RogerODonell: Strange things you find in fruit dishes in dressing rooms in Sweden

21:30 - Johan: "okay i just met roger in front of the main stage. he was really nice and pleasant and took pictures with fans. i was starstruck at the moment and then he strolled out into the festival area."

19:39 - Jakob () in his SummerCure hat.

From Johan: "i'm at the site fetching my sweatshirt by the car. seen a lot of cure fans and even a 15 yr old girl wearing a boys dont cry t-shirt in company with her parents. no youngsters are allowed at swedish concerts due to regulations. the only thing i can say right now is that i'm awfully thrilled, kasabian warmin up the stage now before the cardigans and hopefully the cure steppin on around 1 AM "

From Stefan: "Asked Hultsfred about webcast from the concert on Friday and they said "No". And it doesn't look like Swedish Television will film anything either... :( "

From Anders: "Cure is soundchecking right now....10:30. They played same deep water for about 10min, lullaby, a forest, play for today (extremly hard and long), High......there are a couple of curefans who have been sitting in front row since 12:00"

  1. They're going to be playing until around 3:00a.m. local time? That's pretty late! Are they going to just play nice Lullabies for the last hour of the show? :) :) :)

    2. My gigantic pleasure, Craig. What do you think of a king of package with Wish deluxe, 5:14 Nightmare, Paris 2008 an Sydney 2011 ? I was kidding about it but in fact it could happen and be good fun. When the official site comments were still accessible, I asked Robert for a renewed setlist and he listened to me ;-) Maybe he'll also make this dream come true ! I could kill for such a package !!!

  24. Great set-list! Loving all these reports from the shows. I can't hang out much to enjoy them while they are happening lately but it's cool to see some many fans enjoying the show! Thanks to craig for all the work he does!

  25. The reason they are playing rare songs from 'The Top' is because they are working them out before they do the next album trilogy shows later this year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Before this Euro tour is over; they will play every song from 'The Top' and most of KMKMKM and Head on the Door.

Then, they will announce the next trilogy shows:

The Top, Head on the Door, KMKMKM

So they actually did it. For the first time in 28 years, they finally played it. With Simon on bass for the first time! This tour is totally awesome!

You damn lucky Swedes. Wish I had been there.

  35. just woke up in stockholm after driving from hultsfred after the concert. i can say that it was an really awesome performance and robert seemed to be in really good mood, and the rest of the band also of course. maybe thanks to england beating sweden in the euros:) what no one seems to have noted yet is that they were not able to play any longer after pulling off boys don't cry. before that song a crew member came on-stage and told robert they had to end the show. robert listened and agreed with simon that they should play boys don't cry, after that

    1. Such a shame. I really think Robert would just keep playing all night, if he could. : )

  36. I agree with that statement about Robert would just carry on Playing if he could that's how it came across at Barcelona .I cant wait until i see them next in Italy I hope all the Cure fans that are gonna see the the other shows get lots of songs that they like & that they keep mixing it up & throwing in surprise,s was nice that they have played two completely different main sets last two gigs I hope a video of the Top appears at some point

    ReplyDelete
  37. A top, head on the door, kmkmkm show? I would find that most acceptable, especially if they added in some bloodflowers and wms stuff into the encore, that would be my dream night.

    1. Think about it... they have been testing out rare songs from that era; The Top, Bananafishbones, Dressing Up, Just One Kiss, Fight...

I expect we'll see more from the 1983 - 1987 era as they 'dust off' these tunes. They are more complex that the first three albums, and require some 'test' runs before he records some trilogy shows.

Let's hope a proper North American tour is in the works as well this year!

      Delete
    2. I would love to attend any show in the USA that the Cure have to offer. Of course my preference is Los Angeles where I live but I'd definitely like to travel within the country again to see this amazing group.

You mention The Top, Head on the Door, and KMKMKM, but do you think they'll also do Japanese Whispers in full?

      Delete
    3. I don't know if they would do Japanese whispers in full. Has that always been considered an "ep" or a full album? I was always under the impression that it was an ep, and on Rhapsody it's the only one not offered as an album. I agree, it would be awesome to see a proper tour this year, i'm holding off my vacation to see if they announce anything so i'll be able to get to any shows. I know they won't come close to where I live, but if they go to Toronto or Philly or NYC it's about 4-5 hrs to any of those places.

      Delete
  38. Can you think of any reason why they would cut Head on the Door out of the next "trilogy" tour? They are playing a lot of songs off The Top, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Wish. That could explain why.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think you are on to something here!

    2. Well.. over the years 'Head on the Door' has seen A LOT of action:

      Inbetween Days
      Kyoto Song
      The Blood
      Push
      The Baby Screams
      Close to Me
      A Night Like This
      Sinking

have all been played since 2000, and most recently as 2008. The only one not played since the actual tour for that album is Six Different Ways.

So the band is pretty familiar with those songs. Now, The Top, still A LOT off that album that has seen the light of day since the 1980s:

      The Wailing Wall
      Give Me It
      The Empty World
      Bananafishbones (until now)
      The Caterpillar (until 2011)
The Top (until the other night, lol)

In fact the only 'Top' songs played on a somewhat regular basis have been Shake Dog Shake, Dressing Up, & Piggy in the Mirror. And we haven't seen that Piggy in a few tours!

KMKMKM has not seen quite a few songs since the tour, and some have never been played:

      One More Time
      All I Want
      The Perfect Girl
      1000 Hours
      Fight (until last night)
Hey You (except for a show in 2004)
      Icing Sugar

So, there are quite a few tunes off both albums to dust off.

It's the 20th anniversary of Wish, that may be why they are playing so much off it.

But it's also the 30th anniversary of Pornography, yet we've only seen a few off that one.

So we'll see. I expect to see all of The Top played at some point on the Euro tour.

    3. EDIT: Now, The Top, still A LOT off that album that has nOT seen the light of day since the 1980s:

  46. Hard to say what the next trilogy will look like... Robert is a completest, so I could see him doing all the material from Japanese Whispers, The Top, and HOTD + period b-sides next time around.

Then come back and do KMKMKM, Wish + period b-sides.

Or hell, he might want to do Pornography again...

    Who knows.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pretty sure I read that he wouldn't put that in any next trilogy.

But in fact it seemed robert was tasting blood with the reflection concept again in (re)processing the own history...

  47. Wouldn't it be great if the next Reflections tour was Pornography/Japanese Whispers/The Top?
