"Ding Dong the Witch is Dead"

As points out, Robert added a "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" sticker to his guitar tonight, possibly joining the Anti-Thatcher campaign to get that song to #1 in the UK charts. Though it should be noted that he hasn't actually SAID he supports it.
(photo from @RollingStoneAr via @LOQUILLOPANAMA)

And earlier today, Roger posted this on Twitter: "Go to iTunes and buy this, if its the only song you legally download this year...If its our only voice use it..."

NME reports that the BBC will not play it, even if the campaign succeeds.

Update: BBC reports that it enters the UK singles chart at two.

Roger's magical autographed tambourines

I asked for proof that these tambourines Roger is throwing out to the crowd each night are actually autographed by the band, and here we are, the most prized & rare item of the LatAm tour! I think the competition to catch one has just gotten much fiercer. And I'm betting JC is trying to book a flight right now, so he can try and catch one at the final 4 shows. :)
(Thanks to Roger for the photographic evidence)

Robert interview with Vorterix

Listen to the interview here. (Thanks @chrispatr)

"I want to tell you that Robert just talked on the phone with the radio Vorterix. It will be cool if somebody recorded the conversation for you to post it.
Basically they asked him about coming back after 26 years, second question is it's known that you are planing for over 3 hours, are you guys doing this for some times or is something new?. They asked what's the difference between the Robert of 1987 and the Robert we're going to see tomorrow, and they asked about why not stream live the shows of this tour. The last question was if he's planning to go out tonight and he said "No, that's another difference between the younger Robert and now, I'm more responsible, I probably I'll go out tomorrow after the show"." (Thanks Diego)

Here are a few excerpts that @Vorterix posted on Twitter:
"We have about 50 songs to choose from,"
"Actually had a great time in Argentina. Never was a reason why we did not return"
"This Robert Smith moves slower, but hopefully knows more than before. I still love what I do "
"I was afraid of becoming cynical. But I've become less cynical"

"And I have more confidence in myself than before."
"I use makeup on stage because it feels more theatrical"
"We only care about the three hour show. Playing and having fun"
"I think I have retired seven times in recent years"
"Sometimes I think we have to stop. This is how I am doing what I do"
we didn't play for 2 yrs and I thought we'd never play again but suddenly it caught us and it became a necessity..."
"We decided as a band not to broadcast our shows in South America,We wanted it to be special but we know that is impossible because there is always someone filming"
"Now I take the show more seriously. I do not go out before a show"

(Thanks to @FranzS4 for help with translations)

Tim is taking a trip...with his camera

Man, what a coincidence that Tim is visiting all of these same places as The Cure. Hope he gets to catch at least 1 or 2 shows while there. :)

Update (02/17/13): Tim has officially confirmed what he's been hinting at for weeks.

Update (03/31/13): Tim has posted an update on what he's filmed so far, and what's to come.

Update (04/11/13): New update from Tim. Sounds like he's having a blast. Except for that awkward moment at the press conference. :)

Diego asked me to post this, so I am. To him and all fans in Argentina, the wait is almost over. Enjoy the show, have fun, and sing your hearts out!

Rolling Stone article on the return to Argentina

Rolling Stone Argentina (English) has an article about the shows in 1987 and The Cure's return after 26 years.

Robert interview with La Nacion

La Nacion (English) has a new interview with Robert. Here are a few excerpts:

Robert: "The other day, in San Paulo, singing a song called "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep", I began to mourn. I was really surprised. Sometimes it's like I disappear from the stage. It's hard to explain, but when that happens, I finish exhausted. It's like reliving 35 years of your life."

Robert on Punk: " It really was very enjoyable, a great movement. Every week there were fantastic concerts of bands like Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Stranglers. Suddenly everything seemed to be changing in the music industry. One could think that disco music would not exist anymore & pop would change forever. But of course none of that happened. The punk culture built its own way and that left a mark on us all. What happened was, punk became a standard product & then everyone began to do the same thing. At the end it was rubbish. But the interesting thing is how punk is still there, the flame is still lit. I still feel punk. I hate pomposity, hate brands, hate ads.The Cure has a punk ethic, everything we do. And that is the essence of punk."

Robert (on still having that childlike side after 50): "Before we talked about me being a manager and I assure you this is a very complex industry, very difficult, with many people fucking around. From that standpoint, I can not be so childish. Surviving in this business full of unpleasant people is not easy. The pharmaceutical industry and the defense industry are less complex than the music industry. But I really enjoy my job and would not trade it for anything. In that sense I have a boyish outlook when I'm with The Cure. I generate a childlike happiness. As for the idea of not being a father I have not changed my mind. When I was ten I was very bitter when my mother had a baby. I hated my mother then. Luckily I am now much more balanced with respect to that issue. And I have people around me that I love and who love me. I keep trying to see the world through the eyes of a child and my nephews help me with that a lot. I have nephews of all ages and it's nice to spend time with them. To them I'm the crazy uncle. I enjoy seeing the world from their perspective and what treatment is of being an old cynic. So I understand it."
(Thanks @chrispatr)

Note: As Robert mentioned in the Paraguay press conference, you have to remember the answers in all of these interviews have been translated from English to Spanish or Portuguese, then back to English in our case, so something might get lost in translation.

Cure press conference today in Paraguay

Here's part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4

Here's the audio recording. Thank you, @AaronLaw92.

Robert Smith (after someone gave him a hat): "I've never worn a hat in my life!"  Hmm, then what's this? Thanks, @mlindenuk. Oh look, another one! Thanks, Perfect.Murder. And how on Earth could he possibly not remember this one? Thanks, @glovestudios. This is exactly why Robert hates the internet. :)

Addressing the ugly situation that happened a couple of days ago in Brasil. Roger says it's in the past. Robert confirms he wasn't there. It was Simon, Roger & Jason. Roger said it wasn't an assault. It was an attempt to steal from them. Also said it did not color their opinion or love for Brasil. Robert said it happened on the trip from Rio to Sao Paulo, but he and Reeves were on a bus, separate from the others. Robert says it was a very colorful incident, to which Roger laughingly replied "It's very colorful."

Robert with Lautmusik

Lautmusik posted this photo on their Facebook, and talk about how special it was to open for The Cure. They asked Robert why he picked them to open, and Robert told them he picked a band he wanted to see. Nice! They also say Robert watched their set from the side of the stage.  (Thanks Shadowplay)

And another photo here.

This is a lie

These crazy rumors of Robert Smith being assaulted in Paraguay or Sao Paulo are false. No truth to it at all! And that is 100% confirmed. Maybe stop reporting rumors as fact? Maybe stop publishing the bands flight & hotel info online? Maybe give them a shred of privacy? Too much to ask?
