ReplyDeleteWere you predicting Play for Today or Play? I mean, I could honestly say my heart would explode in my chest if I heard them launch into Play at one of the shows. Hell, I could pretty much say the same about any of the other Wish b-sides they've yet to play live. Luckily I've seen them play the Big Hand and This Twilight Garden, so I can officially die happy, But Wish, like Disintegration and WMS was just one of those albums where the b-sides were just as amazing as the albums they accompanied.
DeleteYes indeed! Play is such an amazing and neglected song.
DeleteEven Halo, Scared As You and A Foolish Arrangement are all just about perfect. Every one of the 'Wish' b-sides has been a favorite of mine at one time or another. This Twilight Garden is my favorite of them all. I hope they keep it in rotation until I get a chance to see them, maybe next year?
DeleteHave a great time tomight!!! This will probably be the only time I regret not going to a concert, this tour just didn't work out for me
ReplyDeleteMe too, but everybody enjoy!
DeleteI am hoping for the Top Theme..I am prying for the Shake Dog Shake opener but no for a fact it will prob be Out of this World.
ReplyDeleteOk Robert, code word "butterfly". Nice and clear? Heehee ;-p
ReplyDeleteWould it kill ya to play Faith in the 10 minutes between the end of BDC and curfew?
ReplyDeleteThis is my third of four shows. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSpin for me fast add hard during Give Me It!
DeleteYou must be the one who always says "thank you!" on every post. Glad to see you've stepped into the light a bit more....haha.
DeleteHave a wonderful time everyone! Don't miss the Twilight Sad! Those guys are fabulous! 😎
ReplyDeleteBLOODFLOWERS For sure ... See if any surprises tonight like the hanging garden ... Last of trio in nyc ...time to leave a lasting impression on fans ... Would love too see them perform FOREVER in Miami with a cast of ex cure members PORL, BORIS ,LOL , BAMONTE ETC join Em to finish off North America in style

DeleteRooting for 2 Late, Exploding Boy, Trust, and Elise!
ReplyDeleteWell you got 1 of those, Charlie. :)
DeleteTrust was a nice surprise. Roger really jazzed it up too. I, too, was praying for 2 Late and Exploding Boy, but there were enough surprises that I barely missed them.
DeleteIt's the first day of summer, so logically they will play...
ReplyDeleteHahahaha...I just asked a friend if she thought they'd play Last Day of Summer on the first day of Summer.
DeleteNo way Robert misses a chance to make a joke about this, right? :)
I hope so. I'm with my girlfriend for dinner around the corner, desperate to get a move on...
DeleteI had wondered exactly the same thing this morning...perhaps it may have been a coincidence (was already planned). It looks like the band will be taking a brief break during the actual last day of summer in late September. I guess they could play it at Bestival UK but it would be about a week or two too early...
DeleteI'm so glad I got to hear Watching Me Fall in Hollywood. They haven't been doing it since, I think.
ReplyDeleteOnly played 3 times so far - El Paso, Hollywood Bowl, Montreal.
DeleteThe problem with Watching Me Fall- it burns up a lot of time. It's a fine song, but when they play it, you know you're losing 2 to 3 other songs. Unfortunately, the same holds true for Pictures of You and they play that every freakin' show practically. I kinda wish if the have to play it, they'd play the truncated single version because PoY, while I love the song itself, has just become one of those songs I've seen nearly every Cure show I've been to.
DeleteThey did it in Montreal
ReplyDeleteCool!
DeleteIs this the first time they played At Night on this tour?
ReplyDeleteNo, played it at Ridgefield and at least once more.
DeleteSaw them in Chula Vista. They played it there. If you want take a look here:
Deletehttp://www.cure-concerts.de/concerts/2016-05-22.php
No, the 6th time. Can check all the setlist stats at Setlist here.
DeleteThey started three days ago at the top of the mountain and have been coming down over the course of the three shows, now they're in the foothills and soon they'll be in the flats and the run will be over. My take, anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhen Robert says these things, he's referring to the set. Being at the bottom of the hill means they are playing the "darker" songs. Climbing up the hill refers to them playing the more "upbeat" songs.
DeleteSo for example, start at the bottom with Bloodflowers, go a little further up with Shake Dog Shake, further up with Lullaby, top of the hill for the pop encore.
the irony, of course, being that the biggest highs for me come from the "darker" moments. These shows were all very well balanced and I'm glad he did that instead of letting the audience dictate the setlists or else Monday night would have been nothing but pop.
DeleteOof, yeah. Glad we haven't heard 'Freakshow'...so far.
DeleteWasn't sure what to think about the hills and mountains references, thanks Craig!
It it just dawned on me that the much-maligned alt.end hasn't made an appearance in awhile. I wonder if RS has been reading these comments and realizing there's no love for the song (at least among fans). I actually don't mind it...I wouldn't say it's one of my all time favorites but I've always found the part where RS screams "I don't want another go around..." to be particularly cathartic. I guess one has to be in the right mood?
ReplyDeleteRobert does not read these comments. Others in and around the band might, but Robert has much better things to do than read any of this nonsense.
DeleteI think he probably has a look, they used to send a video camera out to ask fans what they wanted to hear, this is the modern equivalent. Hello Robert!
DeleteWow... that's pretty neat, I had no idea! Guess I haven't been a fan long enough to know these tidbits. I'm sure Robert (and many of us here, for that matter) are busy and have a huge laundry list of things to do....however, that doesn't necessarily preclude him (or any of us) from following this site. COF is a wonderful resource...and now it's my top go-to procrastination device...LOL. I always got the special sense that RS might be hiding around here... could be wrong. I guess RS is the only one who would know for sure (if you're reading this, hi Robert!) LOL 😉
DeleteVery well, on the off chance then...
DeleteNO METAL!! And please do 'Same Deep Water' again.

ReplyDeleteHey all! Third and final NYC show was great! Great setlist and performance, with exception of some so-called "fans" in section 211 rows 10 and 11 (seats 16 and 17). When 'Pictures of You' began to play, yes yours truly and my brother stood up briefly and immediately, the folks behind us began to rudely yell, "sit the fuck down!" Had they asked nicely, we would've politely apologized and sat down. We said, "screw it" and told them this was a Cure show, not the movies! These folks began to get physical and even ended up kicking me. We did not want the issue to escalate and I ignored the kicks. By this point, we stood up for the rest of the show, DANCED and sang along. By the middle of the first set , in front of us to the side, a REAL fan stood up and began to dance like any fan would. Sadly, the folks behind him began to threaten him and even shoved him and sadly he and his girlfriend, not wanting another confrontation and escalation sat down the rest of the show. Yes, I understand, sit down if people politely ask you. But when these people who only got up to sing and dance during the "greatest hits," they didn't give a damn about those behind them. It's always sad to see how many true and loyal fans were stuck outside without a ticket, yet it is the 'greatest hits' posers who can ruin it for the rest of the loyal Cure fans. Kudos the lady who stood up for her man in the front row and for defusing the escalating situation. So folks, just get up and FUCKING dance and sing your hearts out!
ReplyDeleteYep. I have never sat at a Cure concert and never will :-)
DeleteYou were lucky. On night two some guy said I looked like Morrissey, I said he must have had too much to drink. He then got angry, and said he did not drink, and drink was something that was bringing this country down. It then got worse as he told me that Jesus was coming back, and he would sort out the other great enemy of thus country, the gays.
DeleteI wish I was making this up, Made me really angry. Crap like this at a Cure show??
I have no respect for you.
DeleteI tell ya, if I let the fans get to me, the Monday night show would have been ruined. It blows my mind the things some people do, but I can honestly say the people way in the back probably saw a better show than I did standing in the 12th row because I had to watch the show through one guy's phone the entire 2.5 hours!! I did wait for him outside but he never appeared, but I know I'll see him again. He knew all the songs, so he's a solid fan (unlike the two guys behind me on night 2- who a) admitted to not owning the album that has "this song" on it ("this song" is actually Open and it's on Wish- what fan doesn't own Wish!?) b) told another person If Only Tonight We Could Sleep... comes from the Cure's 1982 album, the title he couldn't remember at the moment (so in this case he did not know IOTWCS was from KMKMKM and did not know the name of the Cure's greatest album ever: Pornography) and c) had the stones to actually sit there and talk during This Twilight Garden, the very moment I finally hit my breaking point and told him to shut the hell up! Thankfully he did, though there were issues later.
DeleteAnother person I was at wit's end with, and a lot like the Bobbily Twins from 2000, I understand a few people here at CoF thought he was pretty funny, but the balloon guy from night 2 really pushed me to the edge- I have no issue with the balloons or the lighters, BUT it was during some pretty intense moments (ICNBTS and Burn) where he repeatedly pushed the balloons in my face and tried to get me to play along- I just want to watch the fucking show! During LGTB or Close to Me or WCIBY? I'll even join in the fun and toss whatever in the air, but Burn! and ICNBTS! Honestly, people... show some respect.
The final little cherry on top came when walking out of the final show and hearing some nitwit walking out saying "damn, the show just started to get good and they had to end it like 4 songs later" - WTF!?! I'm sorry, was Bananafishbones not to your liking!? Did Strange Day rain on your parade!? Was At Night not the feet stomper you'd hoped for!?! Honestly people...

DeleteYeah the germ filled balloons were a definite buzzkill
DeleteMy sister and I had a great time at this show. We were in the 120 sec towards the back and it was hoppin. All our neighbors were a lot of fun, even the two tired folks that had to take a seat. I didn't mind the balloons either. I thought they were fun. I also suspect they were coming from the box seats above us.
DeleteOf course the show was excellent. We went in with a list of songs we wanted to hear, but I can't remember what those were because it didn't really matter. I would totally want to see a show of all b sides and rarities, but I'm not sure what kind of a show that would make. If the band loved to play those songs, they would probably play them more often. And who knows how the audience would react.
Anyway, my point is that I thought this was an excellent show with an excellent audience. If you want to see a shitty audience, go to Sasquatch.
HolyItsaRacoon: That's a bit harsh, isn't it? I don't get people that sing along either. Stay home if you want to sing, huh? 9 times out of 10 they get the words wrong and 10 times out of ten they are pretty flat. I bought the albums because RS sings on them, not 'cause Joe Blow in the audience was singing on them. It bothers the hell out of people taping and even though I'm not taping I don't want to hear it either. People singing over the vocals and watching the band through a little 2x2 screen. They're RIGHT THERE in front of you, folks! That ticket you bought not only the privileges of using the bathroom and drinking beer...a concert by "name on ticket" is included too! Listen to what you paid for, there are other people trying to do the same!
DeleteAlmost forgot, only REAL Cure fans like "High" (and by default, "Wish").

ReplyDeleteStrangest thing- we didn't get a picture, but as we were walking around waiting for show 3 to begin, we passed by the area where the trucks come it and there were 2 guys carrying boxes and the security guard stopped them to check credentials. One of the 2 guys was none other than Jason Cooper!!! Why was he carrying boxes with another crew member? Why did the security guard not recognize him? Why did my friend and I just casually walk by and say "hi" without making any attempt to talk to him? These are not questions I can answer...
ReplyDeleteI have to ask- each night I saw the same 5 or 6 people had front row seats: the guy with the Robert Smith hockey jersey, the hottie with blood red hair and several others- the question is how!? I had good seats to all shows, so I'm not complaining, but you either have to be the luckiest people in the world multiple times over or just have an endless supply of money and time to locate those tickets, but I feel like even with all the money in the world, it would still be near impossible to catch 3 front rows in a row for 3 sold out NY shows!
ReplyDeleteMy guess is stubhub + ridiculously wealthy. That or a personal connection to the band?? Though I doubt a friend of the band would wear that crazy Robert hockey jersey (I saw him too.)
DeleteThree amazing nights in NYC. Thank you The Cure, thank you Twilight Sad, thank you COF.
ReplyDeleteLast night I had the opportunity to the cure for the first time since disintegration show at great woods. Overall Robert was in good form and from appearances of the crowd is aging quite nicely in comparison. Wish they had played edge of the deep green sea, Charlotte sometimes, just one kiss. Robert seemed to be having a laugh by repeating go to bed over and over like a parent telling their kids to go to sleep now.
ReplyDeleteFOR THE LOVE OF ...THE CURE !!!! Please eliminate SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD live any replace it with anything guys... There is so many great tracks that haven't been played on this epic tour that could replace that ...hoping for a change up on europeon leg of tour too see more growth on an already amazing catalogue of songs being played ! Three hour shows that include 30-35 songs and now 80 different live songs supported by three main setlist And 3-5 encores ...nobody can touch the experience that is being delivered on a nightly basis ...now is a good time to bring more
ReplyDeleteThe hockey jersey guy was in row 11 sec B night 1 I was behind him. I saw him in the front though on night 2 & 3
ReplyDeleteWhy did the shows get anywhere from 15 mins to 30 mins shorter back east when they were longer out west towards the very beginning of the tour???? I think the longest show has been el paso at 3 hrs 18 mins or something very close to that.
