Didn't notice any metal elements or influences in the setlist so it looks like Simon lost the argument with RS? As far as I know the only album sounding remotely "metal" is self-titled. Not a fan of Iron Maiden, but the shirt somehow reminds me of a '90s song called Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus.(?) Wonder if Simon also likes the "lightweight" heavy metal bands like the venerable Alice in Chains.
Steve Harris, bassist for Iron Maiden and fellow Brit is one of the best bass players of all time. I'm sure Simon has a level of respect for him if nothing else.
Seriously everyone he's not an Iron Maiden fan. Wearing cheesy metal Rock t-shirts is just in style right now. Check out the picture of Lily Gallup wearing a Motley Crue t-shirt. She's a Motley Crue fan like I've got monkeys flying out of my butt.
Anyone who was at the Atlanta Curiosa show knows this. Simon got to be guest DJ that night and played lots of metal. Metallica, Motorhead, Maiden (I think), Guns & Roses (not really metal, but sort of), and I can't remember the rest.
What's wrong with loving metal? It's not like he loves rap or country. Now THAT would be troublesome. :)
And from someoone who met Simon before the 3rd night at MSG:
"He came up to us after and said he was having an argument with Robert and could we settle it? He thinks the fans want to hear more metal. Robert disagrees. when we said we liked Disintegration he may have called us effin goths. Simon called me a goth"
At the Soundcheck at Merriweather, after Just Like Heaven and A Strange Day they played something that we had never heard before - it was about 10 minutes long and was rather hard and metal inspired. We couldn't figure out whether it was a real song or whether the band was jamming. It sounded pretty good and we were sorry not to catch it on tape.
Your pleasure music doesn't necessarily have to be the same genre you play for a living. Even David Lee Roth has said in many interviews that he listens to techno/house music. He said he even even dig rock that much.
Twilight Sad is, of course, a wonderful band:) ...& yet, I have never seen any opening band on a Cure Tour featured so prominently on COF.
Please, please, PLEASE.... Assure me that this is due to that "Shout out" to Mr.Parker, as I have, in fifteen + years read zero mention of CP by Tbe Cure..
Does C just enjoy the attention given by this up & comi g band? Could he be an Unwitting manipulated... Star fucker?
Thought this wonderful site was about The Cure. XOXO GF .
Up the irons

Deal with it, haters. Simon is a metalhead. :)
Yep, Craigs right, they are huge metal fans. And they even hit the rainbow room in LA to pay respects to Lemmy. Btw, Maiden is awesome.

ReplyDeleteThe Cure are very diverse, and have some heavy songs. It would not surprise me at all if Simon liked heavy music.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough The Cure have some respect in the metal world. Many heavy bands cite them as an influence.
Saw quite a few people wearing Slayer, Slipknot, and lots of other metal shirts at the 10 shows I went to on this tour.
Embrace the diversity.
