Opening night of The Cure Tour 2016 is finally here! If you are going to line up early, we would appreciate occasional updates on how long the line is. Will post more info throughout the day.

One big request/plea from me...if you are out there and hear soundcheck, please do not post the songs in the comments, or email/tweet them to me! This is my one chance to be completely surprised by the setlist, and I don't want any spoilers until after the 2 NOLA shows. If you have the soundchek info, I do want it, but send it in after Wednesday night's show. Thank you so much!

And another request for those up front or with good cameras, we need photos of the new guitars if they new stickers. Robert's, Simon's, and Reeves' if he has any new ones.

As always, I'll be posting the live setlist on Twitter, connection permitting, and they should show up here in the widget above. And I will get everything updated when I get home from the show. I will get photos/prices of all the new merch as soon as I get in and will post as soon as I can.

From Lakefront Arena:

ALL RESERVED SEAT TICKETS DO NOT HAVE FLOOR ACCESS.
FLOOR TICKETS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO RESERVED SEATS.

Those guests with a Floor / General Admission ticket should enter under Ramp 4 at the Ground 4 entrance. Guests with reserved seats can enter up Ramp 1 or 4.

A wristband will be distributed upon entering the building to patrons with FLOOR tickets. Patrons must be present to receive a wristband. Both a wristband and floor ticket are required for floor access. When a wristband is received, the ticket will be punched, designating that a wristband was issued for this ticket. Wristbands will not be "re-issued" for any reason.

    1. Yes, as I said on Twitter, there are no official streams of the show. Those YouTube streams look very sketchy to me. Want to send you to a link that will "activate" you and "log" you.

Be very careful with stuff like that. Read everything and think!

  20. Hopefully RS and company will make the show extra special just for Craig! He certainly deserves it considering his hard work with keeping fans updated over the years. I agree with poster above...merch doesn't look appealing but at least prices are (somewhat) reasonable.

  41. New songs but the drum patterns are nothing special... all boring. Also the way Robert is singing is the same as he's used to for the past 8 years.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. drum patterns are not a problem.

      Delete
    2. So are you wanting Robert to change the way he sings? This is the way I remember him singing since I started listening to the Cure 24 yrs or so ago

      Delete
    3. All boring? Wow, I can't see thinking the second song was boring, but if that's what you think... I thought it was exactly the reason I love the Cure. Drums and bass recall Bloodflowers and that's not a bad thing in my book. The first song... meh, I'm sure it will grow on me.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, because the drum patterns on classic songs like A Forest, At Night, M and Three Imaginary Boys were sooooo special and original.

  43. Holy fuck. Those 2 new songs sounded so special, that last one in particular was a joy to watch, they obviously enjoyed playing them.

That set list was so surprising in a great way, I'm so excited at the thought of tomorrow night now. Can anyone else smell a Disintegration and or Faith encore??

    ReplyDelete
  44. One of the better shows I've seen. Thanks for making me cry, Robert. I also had some of the best neighbors I've had in a long time. I was to the right of this gorgeous French girl, but I never even caught her name. We danced side by side, and it seemed just perfect to leave it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Seems like 'it can never be the same' will become a fan favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just heard "It can Never Be The Same" & it's beautiful. Had me in tears straight away, affecting me in a way only The Cure can. So excited for more!

  48. I really hope by the time the tour reaches the UK the band can start a concert without using Open,Plainsong or SDS. Its just boring and predictable. And only 2 new songs on a first night? "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated"? Come on Smith and Co. Pull your socks up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Seriously? Can't we all just be grateful? I hope I never become a jaded fan. At every encore i was hoping for Plainsong/Disintegration. I'd literally beg to hear Plainsong again. Pull your socks up.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Was it the "must see show of the year"? I don't think so. By the time London comes, as was my original point, things will be different I hope. Not jaded Lara, just left with a feeling of deja vu........Socks are pulled up ,thank you.

      Delete
    2. With you there Lara. It's not inevitable that you end up jaded. 35 years since my first gig on the Picture Tour. I'm planning to fly over for NYC MSG and I'm looking forward to the 3 London nights as much as any time I've seen them even if it is the NOLA setlist all three times. If people are getting bored, perhaps they could transfer their affections to Biffy Clyro? ;)

      Delete
    3. I don't think people need to complain, but there's no reason people have to "just be grateful". I think the fans who declare every show "the bestest show EVER!" are just as aggravating as the ones who are never happy. Believe it or not some shows are better than others. At 11pm est last night I was fuming because I thought we were getting more of the same, but Burn and the final song won me over.

      Delete
  50. I'm glad to see some really bad songs disappear from the setlist (hopefully for good...) and the addition of very good ones. It's never enough, people will never be fully pleased. It wasn't a goth masterpieces (sic) setlist, but it wasn't a greatest hits either. They didn't even play BDC.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I wonder if It Can Never Be The Same has had its title changed and it was actually Christmas Without You from the 4:13 sessions? Robert described that one as being extremely sad.

    http://craigjparker.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/robert-interview-with-uol.html?m=1

'Christmas Without You' (which is said to be about the death of a close friend) was recorded during the '4:13 Dream' sessions. In this Blender interview from 2008, Robert called it “one of the most unhappy things we’ve ever recorded”

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Both the two songs seem to be belong to that session. I like both.e. You know, it's live..so something is missing. But the bass and the voice are great.

      Delete
    2. I wondered the same. If not, he wrote Without You, Christmas Without You and now this....so he obviously has something he wants to say. But honestly, listening to what words I can make out, the song has a somewhat hopeful vibe.

      Delete
    3. Also, I find it crazy that in 1991 it took me 8 months from the day they were played until I could finally track down a copy of the new T&C2 songs but now I was able to get these new songs in just over an hour from them having been played. I know, I just dated myself with that one ;)

    4. Are you guys old MFC'ers? Your names look familiar.

  52. i can't understand what Robert says about his shirt, can someone write it to me please?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think he said someone told him he should tell a joke so he mentioned that he was wearing the same shirt he had worn on the Prayer Tour and he's not sure if that's really good recycling or sort of gross. And then he mentioned the buttons around the waist don't fit as well as they did

      Delete
  53. Daaaaamn! Two new songs and the only song in my personal top 25 that I've never heard live (All I Want). Wish I'd been there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's not a bad first night set, I am impressed with the lack of hits. Watching the twitter feed it seemed like this was the 'Wish' tour, lol... I've seen everything in the main set so was not missing much.

First encore, while still great, it the same as the 4Tour. The instant I saw 'At Night', I knew the next 3 songs. RS should shake it up and throw in 'Secrets' or something else to shake things up.

2nd encore, I've seen it all before as well, but nice to see 'Piggy in the Mirror' back in the USA again. It's been 20 years since I saw it, so would be welcome to me!

'Burn' shows that RS gives a shit about his New Orleans fans. Period. To play it again truly shows it.

New songs? First one... eh? Second one (encore) really solid.

I think it was a good start, only real surprise in the first set was 'All I Want'..

I was surprised they are still focusing on the 'Top' songs, it's been 3 years of that...

    We'll see what tonight brings.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You have a good point.

It's only the beginning of a massive tour, so I don't want to come off as complaining.

The setlist looks to be their best since this lineup began in 2012. I hope it continues with more surprises...hoping for more rarities, b-sides, etc. ...and of course new songs.

So glad to see they didn't play certain songs they've seem to have on repeat (core setlists since 2012). Glad to see some change up in the main set! What a surprise to end the show with Burn and that new song! PERFECT!!

Let's see what tonight brings. I was hoping for a new opener and closer for the main set...as if they are touring to promote a new album. That's not saying I wouldn't love to hear Open/End or Plainsong/Disintegration.

I don't want to take away the joy of those who went last night and who are going tonight and so on. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish they play more deep cuts from KMKMKM, THOTD, Bloodflowers...and oh how I WISH they surprise us with those incredible b-sides from KMKMKM and WISH eras. It's only natural to be WANTING MORE.

      BOTTOM LINE...
THIS IS OFF TO AN AWESOME START!!!!

      EVERYONE GOING TO THESE SHOWS...

      HAVE

      FUN!!!!!!

      Delete
    2. My bet is we'll see a larger focus on Disintegration tonight, would love to see New Orleans get a proper 'Pornography' encore, it's been 16 years since one of those...

      Delete
    3. That's my prediction but still holding out for a surprise opener/ending and of course a rarity or two and new songs.

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM IN NYC! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE UPDATES TONIGHT!!

      THANK YOU CRAIG!!!
