    4. When the Cure announced that they were adding Charlotte, NC to the North American tour, their subject heading at the official site was "Charlotte This Time"

    1. Yes. It was one of 3 shows in North America that under sold. It's also why ticketmaster listed it on the free ticket vouchers.

    2. that's weird ...seems Charlotte ppl dont like The Cure.

      Delete
    3. If Snoop Dogg was the opener they might have sold more tickets. I think most of the Cureheads from the 80s have moved away over the years.

    4. yea it sad that theres not much love for the cure around here. i saw them back in 2008 in charlotte and im grateful they added charlotte again

    5. Keep in mind that the pnc pavilion has a capacity of 19500. So with 5k tickets left that puts attendance right in line with the other shows on this tour in similar markets. At least according to the tour stats Craig posted a while back. Places like Atlanta and Charlotte are never going to draw the crowds LA or NYC will for the Cure.

    6. Very true bella! I would also think that people in the Charlotte area bought ATL tickets when they went on sale (ATL is only 3 1/2 hours away and tix were only $27 each if you bought 4) cos they didn't know that The Cure were going to be playing a Charlotte show. At least that is what my friends and I did, though I will be going to both shows.

  3. As a North Carolina native and longtime Curehead I can attest there just aren't that many of us around these parts. All the more reason though to have gratitude for Robert and the boys including us in this tour. I've seen the first five shows in NO and Trxas, the Denver show, and the three in New York. They are so on top of their game. Tonight will be my last. (On a side note I have two singles I am not using Gold Circle 3. Row N and Secrion 4 Row W - looking for $40 and $15 respectively - deepzenshiatsu (at) gmail )dot) com. Craig, feel free to move this to ticket thread... What an off the charts insane tour!

  4. If one of the setlist reporters hears the "piggy" song tonight, it will be like the boy who cried wolf. We know that a) Boys Don't Cry, and b) Piggies and Big Bad Wolves are not a good mix (Three Little Pigs?). The wolf was outsmarted by the piggies and their cauldron of HOT HOT HOT!!! water....OINK OINK OINK!!!

  5. This is shaping up to be a somewhat pop-oriented setlist...no matter, I noticed that the under-appreciated WMS is finally getting at least a smidgen of love. Woohoo! Love the video for Mint Car and Robert's "look" during this era.

    2. Yes, it was their first single.
      Different lyrics though.

    3. Sorry, that was sarcasm. It does not come across well online. I just miss, the song I mean, but the times they are achangin'.

    4. I was wondering about that, sorry I didn't pick up on it. Too bad they didn't play it. I think it would have been a great show to see. I watched a scope of the show,
I wish I could have been there...

All these complaints are getting old.

  7. Since it seems every 3rd show gets the Bloodflowers songs, looking forward to tomorrow night. And as a note the only seats left for the Atlanta show are lawn seats. The lawn at Lakewood is huge, not many artist sell out that place

  8. This. Tour. Is. Insane!! Every night I think I finally see a pattern- a method to the madness, and they throw us another curve ball. It's great because it's so different each night, but it also sucks because you never feel content like "oh, I saw them 3 times on this tour, I'm good" because there is always that handful of songs you want to see them play AND there's always a chance they could play other new songs you want to see (like a week ago Bananafishbones wasn't even on my radar and then they pulled that one out Monday night)

    ReplyDelete
  9. ... and then they play A Letter to Elise to further illustrate my point.

    ReplyDelete
  10. They still have singles from 4:13 they haven't played yet!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Tonight was all singles, next show how about an entire show's worth of B-SIDES??

  12. And Jumping Someone Else's Train? And ...?

    1. It's a strange one, but they did get both new songs, Burn (which is always good), the Hanging Garden, SWID, Catch, Mint Car, alt.end and Freakshow which haven't been played much, Primary is so amped up and rocking' lately, that it feels fresh and new.

      Delete
    2. primary in NYC Night 2 was way better than Dallas..or any other time I saw it.

  14. Whoa. Worst setlist in a long time. I feel sorry for the people in the audience.

  15. Craig, that's what I was thinking too, the 'normal' set with the 'dark' encores, but really, if they stuck with the singles theme there were really no more songs to do in that vein. Unless they dug into the b-sides.

    1. I for one like the idea of an all-singles set and would have loved to be there!

      Delete
    2. That was pretty much what the Halloween 1997 show was- except for JSET and Forever everything else was singles.

      Delete
    3. I liked the setlist too though was hoping for more of a contrast in the encores. Maybe the next concert could have no singles?!

      Delete
    4. Cyril, was it all A-sides or were there a few B-sides as well?

  16. You know, a lot of bands were cancelling their NC shows... was this The Cure's protest?

  20. Wow... now that I finally have a chance to look at the rest of the setlist...I'm flabbergasted. Despite the bashing by some posters, this is one of the more unusual setlists I've seen on the tour thus far. Not so much the songs themselves but the order in which they were played (among other things). We can always count on RS and company to throw us for a loop. 😛 Wonder why FIIL is being played a day early. Maybe the band is already in weekend mode...they have been doing a lot of back to back shows lately...LOL. Holy moly, it looks like perennial fan favorite alt.end has made its way back into the setlist after a brief absence...The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I saw this...not sure why. It was interesting to see the juxtaposition of SWID and LGTB. It dawned on me that it's possible to group some of the songs in main set and/or encores by theme....and it appears many songs fall under broad recurring themes, some of which overlap. Identifying them all could take all day so I'll focus on one for now. For example, there could be a "sleeping and dreaming" mini set. This could include the two above mentioned songs plus other sleep-related songs such as Lullaby, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, and Kyoto Song (dual nightmares). There could be others I missed. I've heard that RS is a night owl (join the club?) so it's appropos 😴. There are others that briefly touch on sleep (Just Like Heaven - "daylight licked me into shape...."), but those don't really count. Speaking of sleep, RS seems to have hijacked my subconscious mind...not sure why but for the last month or so RS has featured prominently in my dreams. Not every day but often enough to qualify as a potential
DSM-V condition?...LOL. Don't recall his exact role in these recurring dreams (nightmares? Just kidding...😱) but he was definitely present. 😴

  21. I think i can understand why some of you may be disappointed by the setlist, but in another hand, you have to realise how lucky you are to have attended a Cure concert with such an original one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 'Mint Car' made into the set! Excellent! Robert's guitar on this song is sublime. To all the nasayers: The Cure could play nine hours and not play every song. They are giving their all every night and are having fun doing it.

  23. What an awful uninspired setlist other than the 1st and 2nd encores...all singles.. WTF!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I get the "it's all singles" gripe, but having attended the Boston show, let me tell you: I would have loved to have heard anything off Wild Mood Swings, anything off 4:13 Dream, Faith, or "The Caterpillar." The only rarities we got were "Burn" (which, since it has been played at pretty much every show this tour, doesn't seem so rare anymore) and one of the new songs.

The grass is always greener I guess.

    1. We did get All I Want and Snakepit at Boston. Merriweather had an awesome Bananafishbones with the cutest expressions I have ever seen on Robert! Still, would have loved more rarer tracks for those 2 shows. Of the three shows I attended, Montreal was better setlist wise with the Bloodflowers set and the Pornography encore. Still didn't get This Twilight Garden at any set, but considering I posted on The Cure FB page requesting Open and Shake Dog Shake (this latter for the memory of Marcel van der Louw who loved this song and was at the last DC show in 2008) for Columbia when the date was announced, I figured 2 out of 3 requests fulfilled wasn't bad!

  25. If I attended a concert like that I would be really pissed off. I don't even like hearing the singles during a "normal" set!

    1. While I dont mind hearing a few of the singles in a setlist there are so many songs which they can choose from which are a thousand times better than any single released in the last 25 years!

      Delete
    2. That's the thing, the album tracks are usually much better than the singles. Some of the singles are okay, but I usually always skip them when listening to an album, with some exceptions.

  26. i was at the show... it was awesome and unexpected. i've seen them tons of times... they were having fun.... i was having fun... and guess what i will see them again... if you learned nothing else from watching the setlists on this tour.... one show... aint gonna get it done...

  27. Zap, I was there too. They were having a great time. I have not seen Robert have so much fun, leave so exhausted, and look so thankful to the crowd. I had a great time and so did my 13 y.o. daughter wha was at her first concert ever. Thank you so much to the band. They continue to amaze me after 30 years as a fan!

  28. I really enjoyed the show tonight actually- I thought they sounded great and seemed a lot more in sync than in Dallas. RS seemed in a great mood and more animated than have ever seen him. Mostly because I had my fiancé and 3 teenage girls with me- 2 of them never having heard of The Cure! So the set list was lively and easy to dance to- while Friday I'm in love is the worst song to me amongst most every song ever done by anyone- I had to smile at the girls enjoying it. To them none of them were hits! Haha. Hey- Ron John- we were about 3 rows behind you and congrats! (Didn't see the ring drop but looked like you recovered like a champ!). She looked genuinely very very happy and surprised as well. The excitement kinda messed up my video but will let you off this time- next time you do this- give me a heads up first! I will check and make sure none of my girls got a picture of you and will let you know!

  30. 3rd encore is really terrible. And the whole setlist is very strange in my opinion. But we should not complain, they played many fantastic setlists this tour. But anyway, if they play this set in Munich where i will see them, I would be very disappointed.

    1. yes, alt.end and Step Into The Light are dreadful. I think Wrong Number sounds okay live though. I really hope there isn't a set like this in Manchester, I would be gutted to watch a singles heavy pop set.

  31. While it was wonderful seeing them again after waiting eight years, I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by the singles setlist. A part of me thinks this was done because North Carolina isn't exactly an area of mass fandom. Really wish I could have heard all the rare tracks they've been playing that I favor more, but I'm glad the singles concept brought out Catch, Caterpillar and Mint Car, the latter being my song to my husband and he was there with me. For those that can't make multiple shows or don't live in big cities, the setlist was a disappointment from the viewpoint of a major fan that only gets to attend one show of a greatest hits CD that I never listen to. Still love the boys and hope I get another chance to see them before retirement.

  32. I drove 8 hours to this show hoping to hear Out of This World and Twilight Garden. I was a little disappointed when I realized what was happening with the setlist. But,I was seeing my favorite band and they sounded fantastic. The disappointment quickly went away and I just enjoyed a great show. There were a bunch of sideline Cure fans there, the band probably knew because it wasn't close to sold out, they probably really enjoyed the show and left blown away. Charlotte Sometimes and A Letter to Elise made the trip worth it.
