The Cure in Rio de Janeiro (04/04/13)

Setlist: Tape/Open, High, End of the World, Lovesong, Push, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Pictures of You, Lullaby, Fascination Street, Sleep When I'm Dead, Play For Today, A Forest, Bananafishbones, Shake Dog Shake, Charlotte Sometimes, The Walk, Mint Car, Friday I'm in Love, Doing the Unstuck, Trust, Want, The Hungry Ghost, Wrong Number, One Hundred Years, End

1st encore: Plainsong, Prayers For Rain, Disintegration
2nd encore: Dressing Up, The Lovecats, The Caterpillar, Close to Me, Hot Hot Hot, Let's Go To Bed, Why Can't I Be You?, Boys Don't Cry, 10:15 Saturday Night, Killing An Arab.

Note: Yes, this setlist is correct. The setlist that went out before the show even started, was wrong. It had the main set correct, but listed all encore possibilities. They picked 2 of those sets, they didn't play all 5.

Huge thank you to and Cris for the setlist updates tonight, and to @devilinfreckles for the reports!

Note from Michael about the horrible traffic last night (which delayed the show for 30 minutes): "The Ride from Copacabana to the Arena was a disaster. 2.5 hours by taxi. Arrived at the Arena 20 min before the show started."

From @AaronLaw92: Warm up for tonight's show with a memory of the last show in Brazil on my youtube.

Here we go! First night of the LatAm 2013 tour. Herod Layne is scheduled to open the show at 8:30pm, with The Cure scheduled to start at 9:30pm and play at least 3 hours, You can check the current time in Rio here, or with the clock over on the right side of this page,

We have reporters lined up for the show, and as long as there are no problem getting a signal, we should have the live setlist and reports tonight. Fingers crossed! And if anyone else going to the show would like to contribute, please feel free. Post in the comments, email me at craigatcof(at)gmail(dot)com, or on Twitter @CraigatCoF, or WhatsApp (email me and we can set it up). And please get us some photos of all of the new t-shirts, posters, etc. Thanks!

I know so many of you have waited so long for this night, and we are all thrilled that you finally get to see the band playing in your country again! So whether this is your first time seeing them or your 100th, I hope you have the time of your life tonight! Have fun and enjoy the show!

    kind of a bummer

    1. Yes! Lots of fun dancey tracks to keep a stadium of fans happy! :D (said as a big fan of the idiot dance singles)

      Delete
    2. Yes, now. But they have quite a few choices for encores. Unfortunately, they chose the least interesting, though most fun, one.

      Delete
    3. i have to agree that the second encore is my least favorite type (although at least they haven't played wciby... yet?)

however, i think the 3ib encore to close a show is just utterly brilliant. it might be a "you have to be there" thing, but there is no better way to close a show... unless you get faith.

  55. The only thing saving this show would be a 3rd encore of:

Figurehead, cold, at night, in your house, untitled. Then he can play his little tib, bdc, and kaa. At that point I would say "killer show"

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Keep in mind that the show was delayed by 30 minutes. That might have caused them to cut some songs they were going to play.

There were 47 songs on the official setlist for tonight.

      Delete
    2. umm... you do realize that everyone else these days plays about 15 songs, then comes back for one more and calls it a day, right?

just what exactly do you want from the cure? you want them NOT to play their greatest hits for fans they haven't seen since the eighties? seriously?

      Delete
    3. They could play for 5 hours and there'd still be people who would say the show sucked...

Rio got a great show - i bet at least a couple of fans will go home happy...

    4. I can honestly say that I have never walked away from any Cure show feeling disappointed that they didn't play this or that song. I always think it's good enough that I got to spend time seeing my favorite band ever!
