This is a lie

These crazy rumors of Robert Smith being assaulted in Paraguay or Sao Paulo are false. No truth to it at all! And that is 100% confirmed. Maybe stop reporting rumors as fact? Maybe stop publishing the bands flight & hotel info online? Maybe give them a shred of privacy? Too much to ask?

  2. Someone was posting the band's hotel and flight details on Facebook. I would urge anyone sees this kind of thing to PLEASE report it to Facebook. It's absolutely disgraceful that their privacy is being invaded in this way. Anyone who feels that they are somehow entitled to this information is far from a fan, and closer to a stalker. As for this rumour, it originated from a certain 'fan' forum who should probably take a long hard look at their moderation policies. I'm disgusted by the whole thing. It's sick.

    1. And posting hotel info is always wrong, but especially on this tour, where the band are taking the booking of hotels into their own hands, so as to keep the info as private as possible.

Can they make it any clearer that they want privacy?

    2. I'm not even posting the usual fans with the band at the hotel photos, as it was pointed out to me that fans will scour these photos and find out where the location is. That is sad.

    3. I think that's wise, given the circumstances. The awful thing about this situation is that if people continue breaching their privacy in this way, then there is more of a likelihood of them actually being attacked, for real. But then the internet creeps would probably revel in the drama of it.

    4. Is this really this bad? I was there (and probably am the one who sent you some pictures) but it was all very civilized, there were no problems at all. The band's security even told the fans that on the next day the band would go outside and meet people, sign stuff, etc...

    5. Worth saying, there were around 15 people on the day the band arrived, and 30 on the day after... I guess, somewhere else, there could be a hell lot of more people, so I can see this being a problem...

    6. When the band have made it very clear that they don't want the hotel locations know, going so far as to book them themselves, to try and keep it private, then yes, it is.

I'm probably being overly cautious, but I'd rather play it safe. No need to put anyone at risk.

    8. It's okay. You didn't do anything wrong. It was in some of the articles posted. It listed the requests the band made, like what food and drinks they wanted backstage, etc, and the top thing was that they wanted to book their hotel rooms themselves, in hopes of keeping their locations private.

It never really seems to work. It only takes one person to figure it out and then everyone knows.

  3. This is so stupid. Now there will be hundred's of "third world refugees" outside the hotel and then NO ONE gets to meet them. What does posting this information do? It will stress out the band, make security extra cautious, and all you hangers on will look like idiots camping out side the hotel/resort. Leave the band alone and enjoy them on stage. I can tell you that since 1996 the band is not too keen on large groups of fans trying to meet them.

  4. Completely agree with this. Posting hotel and flight information can be very dangerous for the band. And starting false rumors is just stupid!

  5. andy warhol was right some 45 years ago when he said that there will be time when everybody will have his 15 minutes of fame. that's f***ing facebook now. i remember george orwells 1984 novel very well when everybody was in fear of his privat life. now a lot of people let veryone know via facebook what they had for lunch and when and in which form it came out later. poor people. one reason why i'm not using this tool. in countries where they have a very restrictive regime the people know how to use facebook for their ideas. in the western word the people use facebook mostly for junk;-(

  6. You saw the video of Robert arriving in Brazil and he wanted nothing to do with meeting people. The Cure's security staff tells the hotel's security what is permitted. Clearly, it has been communicated to the band's hotels that "they want their privacy" and to keep all fans outside the gates.

  7. It's really outrageous that the hotel and flight information were revealed. I even saw it on a webpage yesterday!!! I can't believe it! More privacy please!

  8. I rarely post on here but I am a long time follower. I agree it is so outrageous of these recent events, but I recall in the past seeing plenty of pictures of certain "fans" in hotels and airports with the band. Why has nothing ever been said about the bands privacy being invaded when these pictures were all over COF. I realize that maybe the "info" was not leaked in the past as it has been now, but it is still an invasion of privacy. I guess it is ok for certain "friends" of COF to stalk.

  9. Not at all! I hate stalkers. But as you say, I've posted plenty of hotel and airport photos in the past. But I always made sure that they were posted AFTER the band had left that hotel, and never posted the name or location of where they were staying.

But it wasn't until I posted a few from SummerCure that it was pointed out to me that fans could figure out what hotel it was, and then the band wouldn't be able to stay there next time they played that city.

Some of the band have said they don't mind meeting with fans at the hotels. Others don't like it. So now I'm being cautious with that.

Airports I'm not sure about. Don't want to hassle them, but really isn't giving away anything, especially if posted after they've left. That's a grey area for me.

And it's not that I don't want to post the photos after it's safe to do so, it's great to see fans so happy to meet the band, but if even one member of the band doesn't like it, you can't do it.

But one thing you have never seen me post is the flight info and hotel locations. That seriously crosses a line.

And I can assure, if those "friends" of CoF send photos like this now, they will not be posted.

  10. ...and we were having the impression that it would make the brazillian fans look bad, the fact that even after 17 years there were so few of us there waiting... guess I was wrong then.

    1. Of course that doesn't make anyone look bad. It shows respect. Not going to the shows would be the thing that would look bad.

  11. Craig, you do a fab job and are so respectful with the photos. I hope you don't think I was impling otherwise. I love to see the fan photos. I say if u have a shot without being a total stalker and are respectful, go for it! But yes it is such a grey area.

    1. Not at all. It was a great point. Maybe after the tour is over, I can post a gallery with all of the fan & band photos.

  13. Rumours like that make me disgusted, it's like an insult to all latin americans.
I really got angry when I read "third world refugees" in a comment, this person doesn't know us at all.
I've been in the hotel coz Roger asked me and friend Osney to deliver a tee with our group's logo on Facebook, but he never came out so we gave it to a roadie.
Ninety percent of people waiting outside the hotel in SP was waiting for FERGIE who was also there.
I knew all the locations they were, but we didn't spread the word. And don't be in panic, there isn't only violence in Brazil, we are not in a war.

  14. Wait a minute...Fergie was staying at the same hotel? Let's hope RS didn't run into her and plan a new collaboration. :)

  15. I read on a Fan forum that Robert was attacked by a pistol wielding Fergie on a flight from Rio while he was taking fan pictures. The plane then crashed into the hotel that they were all staying at... I believe this rumour to be true.

  17. I red that Robert and Fergie have a love affair for years. They even got a baby together. That's why The
Cure have been attacked because the thiefs wanted money. But Robert started singing 'the kid is not my son'. Then Fergie felt into tears, just before Lady Gaga ran into the room riding a pig painted blue. Keep an eye on the internet to be first at real pics.

  18. No wonder the word "fan" means fanatical, but it should mean stalker nowadays. Some people really have no idea about how to behave in these situations, and it just made it worse for the rest of us.
I had the chance to meet them all (where? when? Doesn't matter!), and it was as smooth as possible. No screams, no hair being pulled out, nothing. Just treat them like HUMAN BEINGS for fucks sake, which is what they are (and of a very special kind, I must say) and you will be rewarded with some of the nicest people you've seen!
Do I have pictures to "prove" it? Yes, of course. Do I want/have to/must share them? NO. I don't want to see an important part of my life with a stupid fan club logo added to it.
