Revolt: Maybe one of the as-yet unheard tracks from the new album will be death metal?
Clockwise: You're up awfully early for a jobless bum--- err, teacher on summer vacation! ;) Heehee. (I'm just kidding - I know you more than earned your time off!)
i think today i will attempt to be slightly more constructive than i was yesterday. when my bf came over last nite, he said, "you're still on the computer? that is exactly how i left you when i went to bed last night. did you move at all today?" i told him i went to get something to eat and went to pee a few times. *shrugs*
"Maybe one of the as-yet unheard tracks from the new album will be death metal?"
I hope not, V. I don't think The Cure have the chops to play that fast... :) They could however take some notes from the best work of bands like My Dying Bride or Evoken, that is, if they want to know how to build dynamic slow dark songs that don't sound like 'Disintegration' out-takes...
V / Clockwise: Ihsan from Norwegian black metallers Emperor once mentioned during an interview that he was listening to and enjoying "Pornography"... I think, however, that the mentioned interview happened AFTER Emperor had released their darker albums. They would go on to release stuff that was both lighter and proggier, so I don´t think the influence applies in this case.
I called AMH, btw, to register my complaints. NO ONE i have spoken to had a good experience there. the cure was awesome, but the venue sucked hairy testes. the lady was nice and not at all defensive... she did say they spent 8 million to renovate, not 8 thousand like someone told me (and i naively believed) - but really, if they spent millions, you'd think they'd have a working AC, so her point wsa kinda lost on me... anyway, i told her as nicely as i could about the suck-ass security and their refusal to help us with water or when our ribs were getting crushed, etc... she said they would love to be able to allow us to bring in our own water, but they can't because of the similarities to vodka... she also said the security can't leave their posts, but i said there was water in coolers near the stage, and they were drinking some and occasionally gave us little dribbles, and also in other venues security have given water with no prob...she was genuinely nice and suggested i email as well which i will do...sorry so rambling but i gotta go... bye
Cat - I heard from the guy who had his Austin videos removed. It was Universal that complained, not AMH. He moved them all to Myspace. The link is under the Austin show topic.
Craig: I wouldn't call myself a Trent fangirl, but I have seen NIN almost as many times as I've seen The Cure and am just in awe of Trent's talent! And, of course, he's not bad eye candy, either. ;) Not at all.
I will go see them at Red Rocks if I'm still around then, definitely. I saw them there in 2006 with Bauhaus. :)
Craig, but why would they want those videos removed but not the others? and why is having them on myspace better from their POV? weird...
V, I saw NIN with Bauhaus in 06 too. Bauhaus blew NIN away, IMO. But then, I'm not a NIN fan anymore, sorry! I just went for Bauhaus.
Funny thing is, I am seeing NIN AGAIN in August, this time to catch another opening act, DEERHUNTER! DH has become one of my favorite bands in recent years and I have seen them twice. They are mesmerizing in concert. I saw them once, actually, at a record store. I have also met the singer and he lives in my neighborhood! But yeah, I think they are on the verge of becoming more popular.
I do agree that Trent is a hottie, though. When he first came out on stage in 06, he was so shorn and buff I said to my friend, "Is that Henry Rollins?" He is way hotter than HR though! :-)
Cat: I thought Bauhaus was outstanding, too, and honestly I enjoyed Bauhaus' set better than NIN's that night. :) (I had already seen pretty much the same NIN show already in Florida, though at Red Rocks Trent gave a very heartfelt speech after "Hurt" that was really touching.)
Imagine this: sitting in the Rocky Mountain foothills with a lightning storm on the horizon, with Peter Murphy dancing devilishly on the stage before me. It was like I'd died and gone to hell! :) But in a good way, of course. ;)
Another highlight of the night was the lady who sat next to me. She arrived during Bauhaus' set and obviously didn't know who they were. But after a minute of watching them she gasped and turned to me and said, "IS THAT PETER MURPHY?" She went all Peter Murphy fangirl after that, and it was very amusing because 1) she didn't look like she would be a fan of either Peter OR NIN and 2) if she was such a big fan of Peter, you'd think she'd have heard of Bauhaus.
V, that is a great story! actually, at the ATL show during BH the morons next to me were like, "who the hell is THAT?" i was so pissed off - only one of the great bands that spawned the lesser likes of NIN, you fucks! of course, i refrained from saying that, although i should have said something. anyway, murphy was HOT up there on stage writhing around and they really sounded quite brilliant. one of my top 10 concerts, truly.
I can beat both of you...I saw NIN open for Peter Murphy in 1990. Loved Peter, but NIN blew him away. NIN were so loud (and this was a small club), that Peter came out and tried to "out loud" them. I didn't hear right for a week. : )
I once lived a few blocks from Trent's studio in NOLA, I watched The Royal Tennenbaums in the same movie theatre with Trent, and I waved and said hello to him a couple of years back, when he rode past me on his bike during Mardi Gras. Gave me a "Hey man". : P
Cat: Yeah, I had people around me who had no idea who Bauhaus were, either. I was pissed off at the ignorance and the disrespect people gave the band - until the lady next to me showed up and that just made me laugh! I was only familiar with a few of the songs that they played that night, but they truly blew me away.
Cat - yes, the two events you are talking about ARE connected. I was just saying that there could be a very good reason he was acting that way on that night.
Craig: Oh yeah? Oh yeah? Well...well... I have a sharpie that Trent used! ;) They did a surprise show in Orlando, Florida one weekend (announced on a Sat, show was on a Sun) and I convinced my ex-bf to let me have one of his tickets. After the show he offered to give me a ride home and I said no because I was afraid he'd make a move on me, but I gave him a sharpie I had on me in case he met Trent. Well, of course, stupid me - he ended up meeting Trent and Trent used my Sharpie to sign an autograph! Grr! He gave me the Sharpie back and I put it in a plastic bag to preserve the Trent cooties on it. ;) It's still there, in its little baggie, at my parents' house.
Oh and I saw Peter Murphy in 1995...opening act was JEWEL. ;)
But there's no way that that either of those beats any of your stories, Craig! :) Those are so awesome!! I can't imagine being able to sit in a dark room for a few hours knowing that Trent was also in that room... ;)
Oh - what kind of bike was he riding during Mardi Gras? (Sorry - I'm a bike dork!!!)
Craig: Oh yeah, did they play "Sex Dwarf" when you saw NIN open for Peter? Mmm... I've seen videos of the olden days when Trent used to cover that song live. ;)
V - yeah, I know they're weak stories, but it's all I've got. : )
But I did think it was pretty cool that you could go to a movie and just have him pop in like that. I was nervous that he would sit next to me and then I wouldn't know what to do. Probably would have just left him alone. : )
Don't know what type of bike, but it was pretty nice. Black mountain bike I think.
Don't know if they did Sex Dwarf. Can't really remember anything from the show except that it was SO LOUD and that at one point, Peter put his foot up on the monitor, and the girl in front of me started stroking Peter's leg. Her hand kept going higher and higher, and Peter really seemed to be enjoying it.
Craig: No no no, those stories aren't weak at all! I was making fun of my own stories by trying to top you with something lamer. :) Just think - Trent could've sat next to you in the theatre and could've offered you some popcorn! With my luck, he would've sat next to me and I would have dumped popcorn all over him in my excitement and flusteredness. :) Anyway, I think it's neat that you have such a cool "neighbor" that you see around town now and again.
LOL!!!! And now look at the things you have to do and say here to keep your kittens pleased and up to date with all of the "special updates"! How far you've come(/fallen?). ;)
Craig: (Going back a few comments...) Oh wow, I didn't know Trent left! (Not that I follow his life very closely or anything...;) ) Oh well. Still it's cool that you had a couple of run-ins while he was there.
I kind of got disillusioned with NIN after The Fragile. I went to see them in May 2000 and vowed to be done with NIN forever. Just didn't do anything for me, and I thought that maybe I had outgrown shows and concerts forever. And then three days later I drove to West Palm Beach expecting a similar crappy experience, and instead I was proven absolutely wrong and my life was changed forever. Sigh... When you get that TARDIS working, can we go to a few Dream Tour shows? :)
But anyway, With Teeth was a nice surprise, and I'm glad I gave it a chance. It's nice to be on good terms with Trent again. :) Heehee.
And I can see how you would've been driven insane by having to hear The Fragile every morning... :)
V - I was just thinking about that last night. I wish I would have known you guys for the Dream Tour and Curiosa. We could have had almost anything we wanted, and the Curiosa aftershows would have been a hell of a lot more fun. : )
V - Simon got to play dj at the Atlanta Curiosa aftershow. He wanted to hear some "manly" music at an aftershow for once. First album he played - Welcome To The Jungle by Guns & Roses. : )
Craig: Lol!!! What a great story. Seriously, how can you not love Simon?
Btw, he finally showed up in a dream of mine last night, but I think you need to tweak your Dream 13 machine a bit, because he was in a band led by the singer from The Offspring. ;)
Craig - I will send you a photo of the "Wishful Thinking Tour" backstage pass when I get it :)
ReplyDeletethose look so awesome..! i especially like the older ones. who wouldnt want one of those?
ReplyDeleteElise: Hey, I have one of those, too! :)
ReplyDeleteHey, The Cure play Tampa tonight. That´s death metal land, for ye all. I wonder if they'll play a cover of 'Chapel of Ghouls'...
ReplyDeleteWhere is my backstage pass? Robert, e-mail me. Thx.
ReplyDeleteRevolt: Maybe one of the as-yet unheard tracks from the new album will be death metal?
ReplyDeleteClockwise: You're up awfully early for a jobless bum--- err, teacher on summer vacation! ;) Heehee. (I'm just kidding - I know you more than earned your time off!)
jobless bums unite!

ReplyDeleteBobby and Si sittin in a tree
ReplyDeleteWorkin off them fancy P H Ts
First cums Si then cums Bobby
then comes Mary mad at her hubby!
Lol Clockwise!
ReplyDeleteMine's called "Jason's Tainted Ding Dong":
Jason's ding dong got tainted when
He stole tights from his buddy Simon
Jason stuffed his wee wee
Into the PHT
Now he'll never be "clean" again
revolt/v: didn't pornography end up influencing some metal bands? it's a bit cure-metal, in parts.
ReplyDeleteClockwise: I remember someone from some band claiming that Pornography was a big influence, but I can't recall who it was now. :(
ReplyDeleteV / Clockwise: Ihsan from Norwegian black metallers Emperor once mentioned during an interview that he was listening to and enjoying "Pornography"... I think, however, that the mentioned interview happened AFTER Emperor had released their darker albums. PS AMH can kiss my TIT!
This? This is what it has come to?
ReplyDeleteV and Cat need some discipline! : )
*Craig plays Discipline by NIN*
"I need your discipline, I need your help.
You know once I start I can not help myself"
Obviously! : )
Craig: You're just jealous that we didn't write naughty limericks about you!!!
ReplyDeleteBut now I have that NIN song stuck in my head, so I gotta go listen to it. :)
Sigh, that song is the story of my life! :P And I'm not sure that listening to Trent Reznor really helps me rid my mind of impure thoughts.
ReplyDeleteV - Trent fangirl too? : )
ReplyDeleteGoing to see them at Red Rocks?

ReplyDeleteV - Trent moved away a couple of years ago, so he's not here anymore.
ReplyDeleteShame, since I really like him now. Back then I didn't really care.
I'm weird in that I only like Pretty Hate Machine, and then everything from With Teeth on.
Used to have to hear The Fragile every morning and I think it drove me insane for awhile. : )
"How far you've come(/fallen?)."
ReplyDeleteThe Downward Spiral indeed! : )
Haha, look what I just found on Ticketmaster:
ReplyDeletePeter Murphy / Ali Eskandarian
Ogden Theatre, Denver, CO
Wed, Jun 11, 2008 08:00 PM
What a coincidence. Think I'll get to feel him up if I go?
V - I'm sure he wouldn't mind. ; )
ReplyDeleteCraig: Okay, I'll give it a try and tell him you said so! ;)
ReplyDeleteCraig: (Going back a few comments...) Oh wow, I didn't know Trent left! (Not that I follow his life very closely or anything...;) ) Oh well. Still it's cool that you had a couple of run-ins while he was there.

ReplyDeleteWe could have had almost anything we wanted, and the Curiosa aftershows would have been a hell of a lot more fun. : )

How tragic! :) That would have been amazing beyond words...
V - Simon got to play dj at the Atlanta Curiosa aftershow. He wanted to hear some "manly" music at an aftershow for once.
ReplyDeleteFirst album he played - Welcome To The Jungle by Guns & Roses. : )
I love Simon.
Craig, were you on the floor in ATL? up front center-ish?
ReplyDeletealso where the fuck was the after party in ATL?? i wish i had known about it. :-(
*misses out on everything*
Craig: Lol!!! What a great story. Seriously, how can you not love Simon?
ReplyDeleteBtw, he finally showed up in a dream of mine last night, but I think you need to tweak your Dream 13 machine a bit, because he was in a band led by the singer from The Offspring. ;)
Cat - was on the floor, but not the pit.
ReplyDeleteThe Atlanta aftershow was at the venue (Lakewood) in a nice outdoor patio area.
Much nicer than Nashville, where we were in some sort of cafeteria setting inside the venue. But there was a really nice scene there.
Robert gave Simon a big hug and told him everything would be ok. That's when we found out that Si would get to dj the next night.
Craig: Was Simon upset, or was it just the non-manly music that got him down? ;)
ReplyDelete*Not trying to be nosy, but you know how worried I get at any sign of Simon being upset! ;)*
ReplyDeleteV - Simon was upset. : (
ReplyDeletewhy did robert hug si? what was wrong?
ReplyDeletecraig, pity no one told me about the after parties. i was in nashville too -were you in the pit there?
*tries to retroactively stalk craig*
Craig: Oh... :( :( :(
ReplyDelete
