Another killer "b-side". Love it!
Thanks to V for transcribing the lyrics.
Corrections by Robert Smith. : )
All Kinds Of Stuff (3:13)
(smith/gallup/cooper/thompson)
So maybe I took too much
Yeah maybe I lost my touch
Or maybe all kinds of stuff
Yeah maybe...
Promise me it comes around again
it doesn't matter if it's true
I beg you please don't take away
the only hope I have to get
Another go with you
And I will change me back to how I was
before I really understood
the easy way to less is always more
Beautiful!
I should have sung it like that
Beautiful!
I should have sung it right back
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I should have sung it to you then
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I should have sung it to the end
Maybe I wouldn't be here now
I should have sung it to you then
Maybe I didn't know how
I should have sung it to the end
Maybe I couldn't get the time
I should have sung it to you then
Maybe I hadn't got why
So maybe I took too much
Yeah maybe I lost my touch
Or maybe all kinds of stuff
Yeah maybe...
All kinds of stuff.
Promise me it runs around
it doesn't matter if it's all a lie
I only want the dream of us
Together like it was
Before you realized the
Why it is we only get one way to know
A night
I wish I'd got back then
The easy way to wrong is never right.
Wonderful!
I should have sung it like that
Wonderful!
I should have sung it right back
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I should have sung it to you then
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I should have sung it to the end
Maybe I wouldn't be here now
I should have sung it to you then
Maybe I didn't know how
I should have sung it to the end
Maybe I couldn't get the time
I should have sung it to you then
Maybe I hadn't got why...
So maybe I took too much
Yeah maybe I lost my touch
Or maybe all kinds of stuff
No maybe...
I fucked this up
(Thank you V!)

haha i like the last line the best "maybe i fucked this up".... how did you find these lyrics?
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thanks a lot, I'm badly in need of that Cure fix now! More than ever!
ReplyDeleteCorrosive - the single is out in France. : )
ReplyDeleteOut in the US tomorrow and should be more readily available than The Other One.
ReplyDeleteLoving it. Hopefully some longer previews will come around shortly.
ReplyDeleteThey totally need to work this song into their live rotation.
ReplyDeleteAgree 100% with V. : )
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of preordering my copy from Amazon UK. Anyone had dealings with them? I just want to know if they dispatch the goods after the release date or do they generally try and have it shipped to you for the release day.

ReplyDeleteAre these singles all going to be on the album?
ReplyDeleteAmazon.uk are excellent!
ReplyDeleteI wish they would play 'Cut Here' live, a simple beautiful tribute to Billy McKenzie....play it band play it!
Morris - the a-sides will be, but not the b-sides.
ReplyDeleteThen again, Robert says he still doesn't have the track listing nailed down yet. So who knows?
Just an FYI... According to Amazon.com, my copy of Freakshow shipped a day or so ago. It should be arriving any day now.
ReplyDeletethe lyrics seem great but that small preview doesnt cut it for me. ill hold on and wait before i give final verdict.
ReplyDeleteTHE PAST FEW MONTHS ALL WEVE TALKED HERE WAS ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM TO THE SETLIST THEY BEEN PLAYING. HOW ABOUT THE DIGITAL REMASTER ALBUMS?? DO YOU THINK THE NEXT BATCH WILL BE RELEASE ANY TIME SOON? HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING NEW.

ReplyDeleteI preordered Freakshow from amazon.co.uk and I have an estimated ship date of 23 Jun 2008 - 28 Jun 2008. Not ideal, but it might come early. Note: This was with free shipping, so my expectations were low.
I ordered from The Ideal Copy, and haven't heard anything yet, so they're probably either waiting to ship on the release date, or have sent it out and haven't informed me yet.
ReplyDeletemore incredibly repetitive robert lyrics. has he become a broken record player since 2000?
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with repetitive lyrics? It's called a CHORUS, which is a common feature in most songs.
ReplyDeleteThey are both up on iTunes right now.
ReplyDeletejust downloaded both on itunes because i can't wait for the hard copies to get here...and i absolutely love both songs!
ReplyDeleteJust found that iTunes is not available in our country. Life sucks. :/
ReplyDeleteWell, at least Amazon sent me an email today, saying that the single has been dispatched...have to wait for another few days I suppose.
UM, AKOS is INCREDIBLE.
ReplyDeleteThe lyrics are repetitive but they WORK with the style of the song.
This is one manic, trippy-ass song and they NEED this on the album! Damn you, RS. You coulda replaced crappy-ass The Only One with this!
I read the lyrics as Robert's response to the annoying naysayers that say he's "lost" his touch.
Clockwise: I agree with you 100% - AKOS is incredible and really could/should have been an album track. :)
ReplyDeleteMy reading of the lyrics was similar to yours, only I felt he was addressing the other members of the band, not the naysayers. :) To me, it sounds like he is admitting his mistakes of the past few years. For some reason him talking about how he should've sung it reminds me of something Simon said about the Ross Robinson recording process. I don't remember the quote exactly, but back then Simon said something about how he felt they didn't need someone to come in and tell them how to make a good Cure record because they already knew how to do that by themselves, better than anyone else. I see these lyrics as Robert agreeing with Simon in retrospect - he should have sung it like that, his way, til the end. But he also acknowledges that if all that hadn't happened, maybe he wouldn't be here now, still doing it, even though he kind of fucked things up for a while.

ReplyDeletev-Thanks for the lyrics and for your intake of what they might mean. Really good stuff! I love your theory and I wouldn't be surprised if they were true. I think so!
ReplyDeleteI like the lyrics & I can't wait to hear them sung when I get that CD soon! Mail can be so slow around my place. I'm waiting but it's getting to be impossible! I hear i-tunes calling!!! LOL!
I think the last line is "maybe I fucked us up"
ReplyDeletecure_kitty: Of course I am reading what I *want* to read into these lyrics, but I'd like to think I'm at least a little bit right! :)
ReplyDelete"Yeah maybe I lost my touch"
ReplyDelete"No maybe...I fucked this [us?] up"
YEAH, YEAH, ROBERT, WE´VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE. "I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING HERE", "THE FIRE IS ALMOST OUT", "I'M GOING NOWHERE" AND ALL THAT...
HOW ABOUT RELEASING AN ALBUM OF TRULY QUALITY CURE MUSIC TO SHUT UP ALL OF US 'ANNOYING' NAY-SAYERS?
ADMITTING YOUR ERRORS IS NOT ENOUGH. AND ISSUING PALE RE-HASHINGS OF THE 'TRADEMARK' CURE SOUND OR HALF-ASSED ATTEMPTS AT ROCK JUST WON'T DO...
revolt, perhaps a chill pill or five is in order? ;-)
ReplyDeleteit's just a song, dude, and they're just a band. :-)
No pills for me. And no bellyaches, either. However, the thrills I probably would not refuse...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, don't give me that 'dude' treatment, please. I hate it. Can you stop being so American all the time?
Thanks. :D
nah, i think i quite enjoy being american. are you a stuffy brit or what? or a repressed euro in general? ;-)
ReplyDeleteClockwise: Dude, like, you totally need to, like, renounce your American citizenship and stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteNO WAY!
ReplyDeleteWAY!
Okay, enough about this from moi... see you in the other threads, revolt. :-)
