New album in 2014?

Terra Colombia posted an article about The Cure playing 'Burn' for the first time, and at the end, they included this (English translation): "A source close to the British band revealed that in the first half of 2014 will give details regarding a new studio release." (Thanks David)

That would be great news! But for now, take it with huge grain of salt. Hell, take it with a silo full of salt.

Cure went to Preservation Hall Sunday night!

Update (Nov. 5th, 2013): And here's a photo of Robert with Beats Antique at Preservation Hall in New Orleans on Nov. 3rd/4th, 2013. (Thanks @PresHall)

Update (Nov. 7th, 2013): Posted today by Preservation Hall - "There was one unexpected treat during the final Deja Voodoo performance, as a white tour van pulled up to Preservation Hall with the members of The Cure pouring out of the Ford doors. Robert Smith and company stayed until the wee hours of the morning, enjoying the music and spirits of the Hall. The Preservation Hall Family still have smiles on their faces from that night."

From : "Amazing night with Robert Smith & The Cure were hanging until 4am" (Thanks )

From Facebook: "@beatsantique & @preshallband really turned it out last night - fantastic to see The Cure there enjoying the performances as much as we did!"

From @drielycarter: "Holy Fuck I just stumbled upon Robert Smith from The Cure at the Preservation Hall tonight and I nearly had a heart attack! " (Thanks )

Update: Here's an article from And I got an answer about whether The Cure actually played with them.

New guitar sticker mystery

What does this new "whaaat?" sticker refer to? Anyone know? It can't be this, can it? Maybe a 'Despicable Me' reference?

You know if there's a Cure guitar sticker mystery, I'll try my best to solve it. :)

And if you missed the G-Word special from 2009, you can listen to it again until Nov. 7th. (Thanks Perfect.Murder)

"It was a beautiful way to end the festival"

From Alison Fensterstock's wonderful review of The Cure at Voodoo: "Speaking of Trent Reznor, who stood on the Voodoo mainstage Saturday night, there is, of course, a great overlap between the armies of darkness who ally themselves with Nine Inch Nails and with the Cure. (“If you had told me, in 1996, that I’d get to see Nine Inch Nails and the Cure in the same 48-hour period, I’d have flipped out,” one of those elusive goths of days gone by said to me at the festival.)

But where NIN can be hard and cold, the Cure’s misery – even at its darkest depths – is a sweet, soft one. When Trent makes you hurt, it’s with the bite of cold, industrial jaws; Robert Smith's hurt is exquisite. There is no love left in Nine Inch Nails’ world, but for Smith, love is all there is – even if all that’s left of it is delicious pain. Part of it was lights and fog, but the mainstage Sunday night also swirled with aching passion. It was a beautiful way to end the festival, and even Smith seemed overwrought: after a final encore of “Boys Don’t Cry,” he clutched his powdered cheek, blinked, and scampered off, as if he’d been caught with his heart on his sleeve."

Note for Sunday

Pearl Jam were allowed to go over curfew by 10-15 minutes tonight. Keep this in mind for Sunday if The Cure go over and they try to pull the plug. Storm the stage! Plug them back in! :)

Update: And Nine Inch Nails were allowed to go 12 minutes over tonight, for their dark, intense, terrific set. Damn they were good!
