Robert duets with Olivia Rodrigo

So now we know what Robert and Olivia were doing in a studio together.

They've collaborated on a song called What's Wrong with Me on Olivia's new album, and she debuted it (with Robert) at a surprise set tonight at Primavera Sound Barcelona.

Olivia also confirmed during the intro to her song The Cure that she saw The Cure last night and said it was the best fucking show she's seen and that they're the best band.

Barcelona poster

From Collectionzz:

We are excited to share the first poster for The Cure's 2026 Summer Tour for Barcelona by @nimitmalavia! We will have a small quantity of hand-numbered show edition prints for most shows, which will be available on the concert dates on Collectionzz!

"Taking thematic inspiration from A Forest and I Can Never Say Goodbye, I wanted to capture the feeling of being lost in the woods, on one level seeing through layers of trees, and as we take it all in, a familiar figure's iconic silhouette begins to coalesce out of the coiling branches. Contained inside their face a small raven. Held there, trapped by the feeling of loss. A songbird's melody makes its way to them. Exploring the idea of reconnecting with an essential thread, and through distance and loss, we find a way to connect." - Nimit Malavia

Papa Rodrigo loves The Cure too

From Music Radar:

Speaking of festivals, Rodrigo also reflected again on her performance at Glastonbury last year. “I think it truly was the best weekend I’ve ever had in my 23 years,” she says. “All the people that I love, my whole family and all my friends, came over.”

Much as she enjoyed it, though, the fact that she got to perform with another of her musical inspirations meant that one particular member of her family may have cherished the experience even more.

“I got to sing two songs with Robert Smith from The Cure, who is one of my heroes,” she says. “I think it was the happiest that I’ve ever seen my dad, too. His screensaver is still a picture of him and Robert Smith.”

RS signed white label test pressings

More Cure talk from Olivia

From Dazed:

I was at Glastonbury last year and loved your set. What was it like to sing with Robert Smith?

Olivia Rodrigo: Ugh, dream come true. That was the best weekend of my life, hands down. It was one of the happiest and proudest moments of my career. I adore Robert – he’s such a genius. The fact that he was so generous to show up and do it with me is just beyond me... I’m so grateful to him to this day. I love those [Cure] songs too and being able to sing them with him in front of that amazing crowd was the stuff of dreams. No other way to put it. I’ve hung out with him for a few nights in the studio. He’s nocturnal – he only works when it’s dark out – which is awesome.

t seems like you have a lovely friendship. Has he given you any good advice over the last few months?

Olivia Rodrigo: I was lamenting to him about impostor syndrome and he said, ‘When you look out at the crowd at a concert, people either sing the songs back at you, or they don’t. You either connect with people, or you don’t. It is what it is. Don’t make it about you.’ That gave me a little confidence boost. [Instead of thinking] “I’m not this, I’m not that,” it’s all about connection. My favourite song to play sometimes is “traitor”, because when I look at the audience, I see these girls crying and holding each other’s hands and having this cathartic experience. That makes me so happy – to see them feeling safe enough to express that feeling in public.

In terms of the album’s sound, are there any artists or groups or specific eras that inspired you?

Olivia Rodrigo: I was listening to a lot of post-punk: The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees... Hopefully it translated. I wanted it to sound like how it feels to fall in love; string arrangements that are like your heart swelling, or the ups and downs of having a crush on someone.

5 Artists That Shaped Olivia Rodrigo

From Dazed:

The Cure

Rodrigo has repeatedly paid homage to English post-punk pioneers The Cure over the years, which has only amped up in recent months: “drop dead”, the lead single from her forthcoming, references “Just Like Heaven” in its lyrics (as well as having an eighties synth-pop vibe), and its followup is literally titled “the cure”. While Rodrigo said that the title was just a “happy coincidence”, she still cites The Cure as a key influence on the maturity that underpins her new project in today’s cover story. Rodrigo also performed alongside Robert Smith during her Glastonbury headline set last year, and has said that the pair “talk every week”. Could there be a collab on the cards...?

Boys Don't Cry in Masters of the Universe film

 From Mashable:

"Even Adam outside his He-Man persona has an '80s theme. Reflecting his softer side, The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry" plays over a montage of him failing to fit in on Earth."

Cure meets the Man Who Laughs

The Cure Meets The Man Who Laughs

Christ Church Spitalfields (The Nave)

June 5, 2026, 7: 50 - 10: 10 PM

This is a treat for music and film fans alike: SXSW London is delighted to present the World Premiere of The Cure Meets ' The Man Who Laughs' in collaboration with Silents Synced. The film is a re-scored edition of the 1928 silent classic by the great German Expressionist filmmaker Paul Leni, following an 18th-century disfigured clown who becomes the star of a travelling carnival, scored with music from legendary band The Cure. Developed by Austin-based indie cinema owner Josh Frank, the format brings a fresh alternative event experience to theatres worldwide. The first series played in the US and Canada, and featured Radiohead, R.E.M., and Pearl Jam. The Man Who Laughs Meets the Cure marks a global expansion in collaboration with Universal Music Group.

Disintegration 33 1/3 book in Oct

From 33 1/3 books:

World Goth Day feels like the perfect time to tell you about a book we're extremely excited to publish in our series. 🖤

Coming October 1st 2026, Andi Harriman's book on The Cure's Disintegration begs the question: why should an album make you feel good?

Elbow’s Guy Garvey talks “wonderful man” Robert Smith

From NME:

As for what it felt like to be hand-selected by The Cure frontman to take part in the 2025 edition, Garvey told NME: “If Robert Smith gives you a call, you better get there! He’s a wonderful man, and we’ve wanted to support the Teenage Cancer Trust for years, so it was a really great opportunity.”

When asked if it was the ‘Just Like Heaven’ singer who reached out to invite them to the event, Garvey replied: “Yeah, it’s him direct. He does everything! Even if you get sneaky tickets to a Cure gig, it’s his handwriting on the envelope.

“So he’s a wonderful man. He types in capitals too, and he’s just really sweet and kind and polite… And he’s really funny as well.”

Pedro Pascal's love for The Cure

From NME:

The personal stories behind Pedro Pascal’s impeccable band t-shirt collection

There’s musical meaning to the Hollywood star’s cool-as-fuck wardrobe

The Cure are his fave band of all time

“Well, The Cure is middle school and high school for me. I also bought this shirt myself – in Paris at a record store. My stylist is going to be pretty annoyed, although I do get her approval.

“I finally got to see The Cure live for the first time here in London with Ebon Moss-Bachrach while we were shooting The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It was one of the best shows. I presumed – it’s so rude of me – that I probably missed the era of when it was best to see them live. But it was literally one of the best shows I’d ever seen. I was in tears for most of it.

“I wouldn’t dare meet Robert Smith. I can’t with musicians. They’re gods to me. Movie stars as well, like [The Mandalorian And Grogu co-star] Sigourney Weaver, but at least we can talk about a shared experience and shared skill. Musicians and singers are just like aliens to me.”

Olivia's The Cure is NOT about the band

Olivia Rodrigo was on the Elvis Duran show this morning and confirmed her new single The Cure has nothing to do with the band.

She did talk about her love for them and talking with Robert Smith every week.

Olivia's new single is called The Cure

From Billboard:

“couldn’t be more excited for you guys to hear it,” Rodrigo added in her caption, noting that the track will drop on Friday (May 22), which, coincidentally, is World Goth Day.

“The Cure” is possibly a nod to the Robert Smith-led iconic goth rock band of the same name, which Rodrigo has said is one of her favorite groups. The feeling is mutual, as Smith has previously praised the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series singer and made a cameo at her Glastonbury set last year.

From Nylon:

"Judging by the little teaser we’ve already gotten, it’s safe to assume the song won’t actually be a reference to Robert Smith and co., but again, we’re willing to give her a pass"
