It's pretty cool indeed but maybe a bit too much Wish artwork in there. And if Down Under is as half as good as All kinds of stuff this single will kick ass as well!
Yes, Robert and his secret messages. There's one on the old site that I go back to every now and then, but I don't think I'll ever get it. Confounding to say the least!
I'd not noticed the M in this artwork. I do recall seeing a face on the left in 'The Only One' cover art; also, the face on the right has some interesting features. I can't tell if what I'm seeing is real or imagined.
I don't think Porl is the next Miro or whoever, but I think his work has artistic validity. I especially like that it's rather abstract expressionist in the vein of De Koonig.
I love the texture of his (Porl's) artwork. I also love the playful yet contemplative style of his drawings. The colors he uses only compliment that, with his obvious love of mixing and coming up with 'new' shades.
I don't see the Lichtenstein connection there at all... nor really much of De Kooning. Some shades of Rauschenberg maybe, but then you could say that of so much contemporary art, heh. Meh, I've never been a fan of saying "like this or that artist" of visual artists (unless it deserves it for being really derivative)... any more than I am into saying The Cure is like any other artist.
right, i see what you're saying. one thing that i know for sure is that throughout the years, Porl's artwork that he's done just for the cure has been very much in a class of it's own, i think it's been unique and it really does define the cure. but his paintings for instance on his website are a little bit different style, either way he's a great artist and it's awesome that he can share it with us.
I love the colors Porl is using in the new singles art work and how the style sort of looks like a watercolor painting. The art work he has done so far fits the singles well. I like the Big Hand for SWID but I like the FS art work the best. But then I have a particular fondness for lime green. I've always enjoyed Porl's Parched Art Work.
BIG SCARY HAND??!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving that Porl is back doing the artwork.
wow im loving the artwork
ReplyDeletelove it. yay porl. very cool. wonder if the album cover will incorporate all the 4 singles' artwork in some way...
ReplyDeletei love it! the artworks keep getting better. freakshow's was better than the onle one's and this is even better!
ReplyDeleteit's a "take me to the other side" kind of artwork
ReplyDeletei hope the b-side is SWIDish and better than the other two
wow what really cool artwork...
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty cool indeed but maybe a bit too much Wish artwork in there. And if Down Under is as half as good as All kinds of stuff this single will kick ass as well!
ReplyDeletevery good art! watch out for that hand
ReplyDeleteExcellent artwork from Porl, but I can't recall him ever letting us down in that regard.
ReplyDeleteOh, and blow that up and we'll have a real "Big Hand". Har, har, har...
ReplyDeleteany pre-orders in the us for SWID yet?
ReplyDeleteYup. Amazon.com and The Ideal Copy have them available for preorder.
ReplyDeleteokay i just pre-ordered. sweet.
ReplyDeleteAnother great cover.
ReplyDeletei love how it has the thread tied across it. nice detailing.
ReplyDeleteThey need to release the album...NOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere's THE GLOVE for THE BIG HAND?! har har har! I love Porl's art.
ReplyDeleteLove it! :^D
ReplyDeleteLooks like a decaying hand. Appropriate I suppose, but sadly, Parched Art has never moved me. Please, no salvos. It's just that I'm not a fan.
ReplyDeletebig big fan of porl's artwork and parched art. i LOVE it...
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite of all of them. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... it's not bad, but I think it's my least favorite of the three single covers so far.
ReplyDeleteFreakshow is the best so far. The green is killer. Although we haven't seen the inside of this one yet, so I shouldn't jump to any conclusions...
ReplyDeletei like it! it's hard to believe that the next single will be out in a few weeks already!
ReplyDeletebest art of the singles yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this artwork! I need to hear this NOW.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the album art. Dreams and the number 13... One wonders if/how PA will weave them into the piece.
ReplyDeletePerhaps all the artwork connects together to make the album cover.

ReplyDeleteAnyone else notice there's the letter "M" right in the middle of the hand. A tattoo prehaps?
ReplyDeleteVery cool artwork from Parched Art again! At the first glance I was a bit surprised, but after looking into details, I think it's great.
ReplyDeleteStill more than two weeks of waiting...
If that's an M, I think we know what that's about. : )
ReplyDeleteRobert and his "secret messages". : )
untitled, you may be on to something there...
ReplyDeleteYes, Robert and his secret messages. There's one on the old site that I go back to every now and then, but I don't think I'll ever get it. Confounding to say the least!

The artwork keeps on improving (not that any have been bad mind you).
ReplyDeleteI love Porl's artwork.
ReplyDeleteYes, so do I. (Love Porl's art work.)
ReplyDeleteOkay, so am I the only mutant here, i.e., alone in not being a rabid fan of Porl's art? Shame on me! ;-)
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else see a second face in the first bit?
I don't think Porl is the next Miro or whoever, but I think his work has artistic validity. I especially like that it's rather abstract expressionist in the vein of De Koonig.
ReplyDeleteOr at least that's my take on it.
the album cover looks more pop art but Porl's paintings really do seem in the expressionist style of De Kooning
ReplyDeleteSEE, I TOLD YOU
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I agree about the pop art thing - kinda like what's-his-name. Lichtenstein?
yes! i was going to say lichtenstein but then not all of his stuff looks like that...cause lichtenstein also did a lot of the comic style too
ReplyDeleteand actually the cover looks like the print making process or the screen printing with the bendi dots that lichtenstein uses
ReplyDeleteI love the texture of his (Porl's) artwork. I also love the playful yet contemplative style of his drawings. The colors he uses only compliment that, with his obvious love of mixing and coming up with 'new' shades.

ReplyDeleteMmm... there goes the theory that each album would have a profile of each of the band members.
ReplyDeleteI like Freakshow's cover the best...
