From "Friend of COF": "Sleep When I'm Dead/Down Under is confirmed for a 7/15 release in the US…I have a note too that shows Dream 13 as the album title for a 9/16 US release…so things are humming along as of now…"

I really wished I liked the name Dream 13 better... but I just don't care for it. Sounds teeny-boppery and hollow...
ReplyDeletePERHAPS, however, it will grow on me after I hear all the songs. Album titles usually mean fuck all until you hear the album itself, then it acquires new dimensions. So we'll see. Besides, album titles don't matter, in the end, if the songs are rockin'.
Yeah! I'll pre order SWID soon!!!
ReplyDeleteBut Damn I thought the Album would have been released before Sept 13th in the US since the 13th is on a Saturday!
I'll be away on vacation in Cape Hatteras NC far far away from any CD stores! And I hate to pre-order since I wouldn't be getting my mail delieved then either. I'll have it order it while I'm down there that week & hopefully get it Saturday when I'm back and do the i-tunes thing.
But I'll take my laptop so I don't miss out on any release parties on the COF? Are you planning any craig! Hope so!!!
CK - There will probably be something. : )
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about the album name too but the songs are going to ROCK MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSept can't come soon enough!!! I'm wishing the summer away already! LOL!
Cool craig, I'll be on the beach typing away. Wonder if the hotels WIFI reaches the beach! Maybe I'll hang out by the pool??? My family is definitially going to think I'm nuts sitting at the beach with my computer! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think this album will rock some serious bootay, especially if the studio version of FS is any indication. That song is produced quite well, with many intriguing layers, and hell, even Only One has good production, so yeah: I'm thinkin' it will sear our nipples right off! Especially with UTS as the lead off.... *swoon*
ReplyDeleteThe album title does nothing for me, but it's just words. As it's been said, it's the music that matters, and I'm very hopeful for this album.
ReplyDeleteI'm very concerned about the studio version of UTS though (still). It's making me think of A Letter to Elise. The first time I heard it was Unplugged, and I found it so moving. I was sobbing. When the studio version was released I was quite disappointed. I still love the song, but it's not the same.
It's been the same with the first recording of UTS - so moving - but I don't like as much the way the vocals rise at the end in subsequent versions.
Whatever, 3 more months and we'll know. I'm sure it'll rock either way.
pills: Oh man, I'm all about the soaring vocals on the more recent versions. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Red Rocks version has a special place in my heart since I was there (in fact, I'm listening to it right now!!!)...
But I think it came out the way it did because Robert was sick - I think the rising vocals are the actual way it was meant to be. His voice sounded pretty rough that night.
unless they add in a horrible, disruptive piano interlude like they did on 'out of this world,' the studio version of UTS can't go wrong for me.
ReplyDeleteMonkeyButt: What if it was a keytar interlude?
ReplyDeletev, i'm all about the keytar. but the first time i heard that piano on OOTW, i thought they'd hired billy joel (or some hack pianist) to throw in some awful piano parts.
ReplyDeleteand i LOVE roger.
Again, listen to V. Smart girl. : )
ReplyDeleteMonkey: What?!?!?!? You don't like the piano on OOTW?
craig, no i really didn't. the acoustic and electric guitar parts were divine, but when that piano comes crashing in, it just kills the song for me.
ReplyDeleteMonkey: From what I was told, that's Robert on piano in OOTW.
ReplyDeleteCraig: :) :)
ReplyDeletecraig: maybe that's why?
ReplyDeleteMonkey: : )
ReplyDeleteThe program in america states the lp title as 4:13...
ReplyDeletersx: old news, just a place holder, not the title.
ReplyDeleteIf it's Dream 13, I'm going to just name the CD Thirteen in iTunes and pretend. :)
ReplyDeleteDenial. Denial. Denial.
RSX: Yeah, but the program also discusses a Cure song named "urn." ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that the program is just recycled from the Euro tour, when the boys seriously thought of calling the album 4:13. They couldn't be assed to change it (and fine with me - that's a waste of paper), so they just left it as it.
Honestly, I prefer 4:13. It has symbolism, and it's more evocative of other things.
I like "Dream 13," it sounds very Curesy to me, heh.
ReplyDeleteDream 13 has nice connotations to me now. I am not hating on that title. :)
ReplyDeleteV, it sounds like a Boy Band to me. :-(
ReplyDeleteClockwise: But aren't The Cure the hottest boy band you could ever imagine? ;)
ReplyDeleteV: ; )
ReplyDeleteBoy band? Not to me. :^D
ReplyDeletes/aren't/isn't!!!
ReplyDeleteCraig: :)
ReplyDeleteYes, V, Hot Hot Hot!
ReplyDeleteBut I have never heard of a boy band that had a name remotely like "Dream 13." *has terrifying flashbacks of Menudo*
Dream 13 doesn't sound very creative or thought thru to me... but i agree with everyone else, the music is awesome and that's all that matters.
ReplyDeleteMaree: I think terrifying is the only kind of flashback that one can have about Menudo! :)
ReplyDelete*shakes fist at the persistence of memory* Gah! It's like, why couldn't they stay safely tucked away in obscurity? They were positively everywhere back in the day... %^P
ReplyDeletei had an email from hmv.co.uk this afternoon saying the album (not titled) will be released on the 13/9/08 and can be pre-ordered for £8.99
ReplyDeletei'm still holding out for 'thirteenth dream'
ReplyDeletemaybe its been a dream to release 13 studio albums
ReplyDeleteDisintegration, Bloodflowers, Wish, Faith, Kiss me kiss me kiss me... these album titles are all far from being "extraordinary". I like Dream 13... Robert always wanted to name a record in that kinda way. Remember Music for dreams before Wish came out or the Good Dreams/Bad Dreams idea before the self-titled. I'd prefer Thirteen or maybe 13th Dream but I can live with what we seem to get now.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course The Cure are HOT HOT HOT and their presence on stage teases the giddy fangirl right of me, but Dream 13 is just too bubblegum poppy to me. But whatever, in the end. Just release the damn thing already!
ReplyDeleteMoontear: True dat. I think that what is extraordinary about those album titles is the dimensions they acquire AFTER you hear the collection of songs therein. The Cure have always been brilliant about taking cliches (Boys Don't Cry, Just Like Heaven, Out of This World) and giving them new depth. SOOOO, Dream 13 may well gain new depth and dimension once we hear the album itself.
ReplyDeleteHeh... :^.
ReplyDeleteJerry: Word up!
ReplyDelete'heap of shit' was one of the first names that was rumoured, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteJust "keepin' it real" V! heh...
ReplyDeleteHeehee, Jerry and MonkeyButt!
ReplyDeleteCat? You around? I was wondering if the "new" ending to UTS finally came to work for you, now that you've heard it live? Has it grown on you or you still prefer the "original" mellow one?
ReplyDeletei mean, wouldn't that be the ultimate combination of surreal bizarre gloriousness, to see the cover art of the new cure album with the words "heap of shit" in porl's handiwork?
ReplyDeleteMonkeyButt: That would truly be gorgeousness and gorgeosity made...paper.
ReplyDeletei'm feeling gorgeoustatic just thinking about it!
ReplyDeletejerry: ROFL
ReplyDeletefantac: yes, i do really like the soaring vocals version of UTS now. i used to call it the tortured cat version because the first time i heard it that's what it sounded like... but now it makes "sense" to me, so i no longer lambaste it. i think uts is the perfect opener and if they leave it off the new album i will cut off my boobies.
cat, if you do, can i have them? i'm making a person in my basement...
ReplyDeletegeez, i've said too much.
Clockwise: Oh please - we all know you already rocked 'em off in Charlotte!
ReplyDeletemonkeybutt, i love you. :-)
ReplyDeletev, i just rocked my nipples off, but i went back the next day and found them and re-attached them! yay!
Clockwise: Oh, okay then. Thank heavens for the lost and found!
ReplyDeleteI'm picturing monkey doing the Silence of the Lambs "tuck your wiener" dance...
ReplyDeleteI think someone already said this but I really believe that UTS always had the "soaring vocal" at the end but because RS had a sore throat he wasn't going to thrash it by doing that ending. If it wasn't the case we'd hear the other version as well don't you think?
jerry, i think you are right about the tortured cat/soaring vocals version. it was always meant to be that way, and his sore throat thwarted him from singing it thus. i do like the other version as well, though, but whatever. by now i'm used to it.
ReplyDeletethat's the thing with songs you hear a certain way first - you want them to REMAIN that way! when i was at coachella and heard b43, i was enamored of it, and it took some SERIOUS getting used to the album version. now i adore the album version.
Detachable nipples? Reminds me of King Missile's Detachable Penis song from the 90's...
ReplyDeleteI loved that song! LOL...
ReplyDeleteNo, mine are not detachable. They blew right off, which testifies to the intensity of the show!
jerry, i hope you are well... sending positive vibes your way. :-)
Am I the only one starting to worry about Cat's poor boobs?
ReplyDeleteThey always seem to be under constant threat of being cut, bitten or danced off. : )
At least she gave them some air in Austin. : )
Hahahahaha.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cat! I am, a little apprehension is setting in, the build up to Monday's meeting is building but we'll be ok. I predict a lot of tears on Monday... COF blog posts are keeping my mind busy which is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteCraig: Looks like they are also dangerously susceptible to being blown away!
ReplyDeletejerry, i don't want to belabor the point... but i really hope all goes well and i am thinking of you and your family.
ReplyDeleteWhile, I'm not particularly excited about the title, I won't let that dissuade me from buying the album.
ReplyDeleteNo belaboring here love! We really appreciate the well wishes, it's like rocket fuel for us!
ReplyDeleteThank you and everyone who's been genuinely so sweet to us!
dumb anguish: you mean you are not going to boycott the album because you don't like the title/the keys are gone/Robert is chubby/Robert sings about things only 20 year olds should sing about/The Cure haven't had a decent song since Heroin Face/Porl looks like Uncle Fester in Drag/Boris is out of the band/Porl uses too much wah wah/Robert ditched his old six-string/Robert is older and that's just wrong/The Cure are nu-metal now/Ross Robinson produced a Cure album/The Cure postponed their tour/All the new songs are soulless retreads of past Cure songs/Robert likes AFI/Robert sang a duet with Korn/Robert never changes his black shirt/Robert still wears make-up and he should know better at 50/etc.etc.etc.
ReplyDeleteWHAT KIND OF CURE FAN ARE YOU?
Well V, at least we don't crack her boobs up. : )
ReplyDelete*Craig is embarrassed to recognize himself in some of what Cat just wrote*
ReplyDeleteCraig: Nice going, Craig!!!! Look at what you did! ;)
ReplyDelete(Not sure why I felt the need to address you by name twice! Ha!)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Cat and Cat's boobs.
ReplyDeleteI'm so nice, you named me twice. : )
ReplyDeleteI always get a laugh when I hear anyone pontificate about any band. The "I like their old stuff better than their new stuff" argument is SO weak I just crack up.
ReplyDeleteSome people are so fucking cool for their own good...
Craig: You're a poet and you didn't even know it, too, Craig. (Heehee.)
ReplyDeleteThat's right Sister, I'm A Poet! : )
ReplyDeleteMorrissey lyrics in a Cure blog Craig? I see the traitor tag coming out! LOL ;-)
ReplyDeleteCraig: Is evil just something you are, or something you do?
ReplyDeleteTraitor...I mean Jerry: Yes! And I'll Wear It Proudly.
ReplyDeleteLet's see who gets that one. : )
Does Robert really like AFI?
ReplyDeleteCraig: I'm stumped!
ReplyDeleteI prefer Benedict Delgado Craig...
ReplyDeleteHahahah, Jerry!
ReplyDeleteCraig, you are HI
ReplyDeleteLARRY
US
I love that you're all unhinged. Does the body/soul/mind some good!
V: For the last 3 years? Something I did. : )
ReplyDeleteAnd I can NOT see through everybody's clothes. Just need to clear that one up. : )
Craig: Suuuuuuuure you can't! I don't believe that for a second. ;)
ReplyDeleteCat: Right back at ya! : )
ReplyDeletemonkeybutt; WELL DONE AND THNAKYOU .. finally someones crappy joke made me laugh
ReplyDeleteCraig, I don't want to spoil you too much, but with all the news you have giving us and all your joyful mood, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you. But I'd rather be All Kinds Of Stuff. : )
ReplyDeleteCraig - Elvis Costello!
ReplyDeleteRobert always changes his mind. I bet he'll drop the "Dream" from the title, and just name it aptly, "13".
ReplyDelete1 question....since the album is called dream13, i wonder whether there would be a track in the album with the same title? hmmm i wonder....
ReplyDelete
