The Cure - Live in Atlanta (6-15-08) SendSpace / Rapidshare / Megaupload Not FLAC, but a very good recording. (Thanks to Brent for allowing me to share it)
Thanks so much Brent and Craig!!! This is an awesome recording job! And yes, maybe the best recording of UTS I've heard yet...not as much jibber jabber in the background.
Has anyone started a discussion about which tracks The Cure is currently using backing tapes or drum machine on for this tour? I can't speak for the songs I haven't heard yet, but includes at least the following:
The Walk Let's Go to Bed Push (if you include the phasing drum machine to keep Jason in time) One Hundred Years (obviously) Plainsong Charlotte Sometimes M Kyoto Song A Forest (maybe? can't remember) Want (another maybe?) Close to Me Wrong Number Prayers for Rain The Baby Screams (?)
Anyone think of others I've missed (or gotten wrong)?
Brent, and Craig, Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Great recording!!! I have to ask, were you sitting in Section 105? I saw someone below me taping and had wanted to talk before we left but my wife would not let me. She was afraid I would get them in trouble. If that was you, thanks again and hope that loud screaming is not me!
No, the recording is great! And damn, DTU is good! I've never cared for this song on Wish (I actually never cared for Wish), but it really took a life of itself on stage! I was jumping like a maniac.
Ok after listening more, I know I am not the one screaming. I would never go that crazy screaming for JLH, heard it too many times to get that excited. And I know I was going crazy when Charlotte, and I was sure that time, came on!
When I am at a show I must bliss out -it is all such a blur (of Cure pleasure) for me...I am always so very impressed with those who can list the set list after - while I'm usually just stunned...(I'm old so I guess it takes me a while to recover) :)I saw the Atlanta show and will be thrilled to play it OVER and OVER!
Thanks as always Craig, and Brent. So many great performances this Tour. It's great to have a few of them to remember these shows....Fairfax and Philly seem like forever ago.
Listening to these songs makes me realize how fucking awesome the Cure sound right now. When I'm at the show, it's hard for me to concentrate on the technical aspects of the music, because I am so immersed in the visceral experience. But listening to these songs - damn! They sound SO GOOD!
Holy shi-ite. You did an amazing job recording this, especially considering how tight security was. Anyone know the source on this? Minidisc maybe? It sounds fucking fantastic, like the Ocean, the Stars and Velvet running through my head and brain. Perfect. Thank you again
thanks guys ...excellent recording and very generous to go through all the effort of making it freely available...
regarding backing tapes, some interesting words from RogerD from his message board below...
They have 16 tracks at least of Logic but then they have since about 1997 ? RS did the Bowie concert and found out how much tape the Duke uses and thought he would too. WMS tour was totally live, it was around Wrong Number that tapes rose their ugly heads and from then on it got worse and worse. Bloodflowers was the first big tour with tape for every single song. Every acoustic guitar part is doubled on tape, lots of percussion, loads of Perrys guitar parts in the big song from BF, sorry cant remember the name ...
On a side note, I really wish people in the crowd would be more respectful and STFFFFFFU during the performance. I'm all for cheers and screams, but who really wants to hear you babbling on about sandwiches and your otherwise inane life? Thank GOD I sat next to the most amazing people at this show. I couldn't have asked for better!
Maaan! It's so great to be able to listen this show again. Porl just KILLED IT on his FTEOTDGS solo. And how good does Other Voices sound?!?! So glad I drive the bazillion miles to see this show. Early 2009 tour? Bring it on.
I just listened to it on my walk and again I cried listening to UTS. What a grand and wonderful show Atlanta was. I was in the front row with the first poster on this thread and it was the most amazing night of my life. Robert took the purple beads I tossed to him and the whole night was perfect and full of some good vodka.
Cat - I'm so sorry we didn't get a chance to meet. I'm Bobsgirl. I had another log in here but I had trouble logging in so now I'm using another.
Great recording and thanks again.
ps - people should STFU. Sreaming, singing, fainting-all good. But talking about your lunch or who your texting or the kitty litter that needs to be changed - PLEASE - STFU!!
I'm getting closer to my goal of getting high quality versions of all my favs, if not every song played this tour. Anybody point me to a quality version of A letter to Elise?
Anything else thats not on the shrine, boston, or atlanta show?
I'm so glad someone recorded this show. This was my favorite out of the 3 shows I went to. It sounds different now because Porl's guitar was so loud to me and I couldn't hear much over it. So thank you Brent!
msp - I would love to get a hold of some of that stuff. "He (I) wispers please remember me..."
On another note, I'm going to disagree with the group that says the slow "charlotte" is better than the fast "charlotte". Count me in the fast group...
Sound very powerful and energetic the way The Cure is playing now, every single instrument sound amazing. I think Jason is doing a oustanding drums job (at last !!), the other 3 members there is no much to say about their performance, heavenly as always (RSx voice still reach the higher notes...chills)
I have been listening to the May 10 Philadelphia show, it's been good... especially One Hundred Years. There are some good ones out there. Demonoid seems to have the greatest selection.
Pierre, can you cut it with the misogyny, please? That's just one such comment too many... you can hate the fucking chatter of that girl without using it as justification for attacking an entire gender. Fucking fuck. >:^[]
Pierre, your comments remind me of something that Coco Chanel said: "When a man does something stupid, people say, 'How stupid he is.' When a woman does something stupid, people say, 'How stupid women are.' "
Thank you for reminding us all that misogyny is alive and well.
Maree, I hope you are jocking! I know I was. And in addition I don't care about being lectured by someone I don't know. Anybody who knows me will tell you that misogyny is definitely not something that I am comfortable with.
So, let's say: "Oh god, I hate this human being screaming like a banshee" Oh no, a Banshee is a female creature, what have I said?
Once again, did I say that EVERY woman was like this? Do you really think that my sexual orientation is the result of some stupid individual talking too loud in a bootleg recording? For christ sake, get a sense of humour! Do you honestly believe that I would seriously attack women when I know very well from personnal experience what discrimination is?
Heh, yeah... not comfortable with at all... hence your engaging in it so intensely in this thread... your earlier (deleted) violently woman-hating comment + this one = total dickhead misogynist. Actions speak louder than detractions. :^P
The comment I deleted said "Oh Yeah! Fuck me sideways with a French baguette!" At this time I hadn't even listen to the recording? What are you on? Oh yes, I guess it's not my supposed misogyny that you have a problem with...
I used an old Archos Jukebox Recorder -- records directly to mp3 -- w/ a little Sony mini-stereo mic clipped to my shirt & run through the auxiliary input. Fairly cheap, inconspicuous & does a pretty decent job. :-)
Brent nice job on the recording and also on restraining yourself from beating those two within an inch of their vapid lives... What the fuck is wrong with people? What could they possibly talk about ALL NIGHT LONG???
Hey, did y'all notice the album art that comes up with this when you put it into iTunes? It is a photo of the set list!!! Awesome touch. Thanks so much!
Incidentally, I do have recordings of other bands to come through Atlanta over the past few years -- varying degrees of sound quality, but several are comparable to this one. If anyone's interested in seeing (or I should say hearing) what else I've got, contact me at brent at karaokebus dot com.
Brent: It's amazing you were able to get such a great recording from that little stealth setup! I remember getting copies of shows from other bands back in the day that were recorded on DAT with 2 mics on poles, 10ft apart, etc. and some of them didn't sound 1/2 as good as what you were able to capture. Thanks again!!
I don't think the Swing Tour was totally live - Want definitely has sequencer parts..
It boggles me why they seem to have used tapes on nearly all their songs. It goes against the essence of being a stripped down 4 piece band (highlighted by the wonderful 'old school' encore sections..)
Push has, IMO been totally dicked on by this annoying drum thing. It wasn't on Festival 2005 so why now?
Close To Me is the song that suffers most - they need to drop it out of the set list. Why have Jason having that awful drum machine and then keyboard parts on top!
It pissed me off when I heard tapes on 'Pictures of You' - the same part that Porl plays on the guitar.
Stuff from the later albums, especially Bloodflowers, is mildly excusable as it's such a complex album to arrange for a 4 piece, but to have it on stuff like Push is a crime.
And Robert really pisses around with the Bass VI on Prayers for Rain trying to play over the keyboard backing part.
Hi Gang, this is my first posting on COF, I have been lurking around here since I found you all after I went to the Atlanta show. Just wanted to say how much I love the Cure, this was my fourth time seeing them (first time was Disintegration tour), been a fan since the early 80's. My love for these guys also has been renewed, the Cure has been there for me when nobody else was, and I truly love them for it. Thanks Robert, you da man!
Funny that someone posted about a girl talking about a freaky tall guy in front of her. My friend and I had floor seats in F4 and, just before The Cure took stage, this guy who had to have been at least 7'6'' tall arrived with his girlfriend and took his seat a couple of rows in front of us, but a few seats down. Honestly, I felt sorry for the guy...I mean, if you're that tall, there's nowhere you can stand without pissing people off and it was a reserved seating venue. He did apologize profusely to everyone behind him when he arrived. The girl just behind him tried to stand on her seat to see over him, but the security guard made her get off of the chair. She ranted for a bit, then left with her boyfriend and we never saw either of them again. She was amusing to talk to before the show, though. When I told her and her boyfriend that I was going to be driving up to Charlotte the next night to see The Cure again, she said, "Oh...you're one of THOSE people." Ha...that I am.
Back on track... It's great to have the best concert that I've seen in my 36 years on a recording to play on my stereo at home. Thanks again.
Oh YAY. I'm glad someone was able to get past security and preserve this show!! Thanks from me too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent recording !
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Brent
(and Craig)
Hey Craig is this the best UTS recording yet?
I think it might be.
Great quality!

ReplyDeletenice job with the recording perfect thank you sssssoooooo much.. underneath the stars wow perfect recording....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Brent and Craig!!! This is an awesome recording job! And yes, maybe the best recording of UTS I've heard yet...not as much jibber jabber in the background.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
ReplyDeleteJason's drumming is PHENOMENAL on The Walk! Best version ever - how Porl teases out the key parts is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned Jason in my reviews - he's been fuckin' ROCKIN'!
PS Thanks Brent and Craig. Truly generous. :-)
ReplyDeleteNFK, CC... Jason's drumming on The Walk was one of the highlights of the Vancouver show for me. So nice to have this recording of it. :^D
ReplyDeleteHoly Shite!
ReplyDeleteNice.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThank You Brent and Craig!!! :-) Just downloaded it and am listening to it now..... sounds so good!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteShit! Goose bumps are back... UTS is so good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brent, whoever you are! If you are from Atlanta, I'll get you a beer or two for that!
The waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave!
Thank you Thank you Thank you! The show was just amazing, and I'm so happy to have this now too!!!
ReplyDeleteanyone hear that girl faintly in the backround gabbing the entire concert..."like..oh my god! i ate a sandwich once!!"
ReplyDeleteJeff: Yes, I can, yes I can...
ReplyDeleteBrent, and Craig, Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Great recording!!! I have to ask, were you sitting in Section 105? ReplyDeletejoester - I have all the CA shows, Austin, Colorado, Fairfax
ReplyDeleteThey all scattered all over the place on my computer. I need to organize everything and upload them somewhere for the COF friends.

ReplyDeleteAnd yes I am gay.
Have a problem with that?
Is this blog only for heterosexual women talking about Simon tight pants?
I'm off to bed. This is ridiculous.
And your being gay is relevant to this exactly how? I am gay too.... so?
ReplyDeleteThis isn't about being gay or het, it's about misogyny. Your position is indefensible. Just cease the effing misogyny, everyone's happy. Bye.
Scott --
ReplyDeleteYes, I was in section 105. Funny thing is -- security almost stopped me from getting my recorder in -- but only because they thought is was a camera!
As for the chatter -- I wanted to smack her, too. Why is it that the truly annoying voices can pierce through all other sound?
Anyway, glad you folks enjoyed the recording.
Thanks so much Brent, hilarious story. :^D

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this powerfull taping ! What a pleasure to hear "Want" again...
ReplyDelete@msp000,
ReplyDeleteIf you have Fairfax uploaded somewhere, I'd love to know.

ReplyDeleteThis show is a pleasure to listen to, it's a pure bliss!

ReplyDeleteGreat Setlist!
Other Voices rocked my world!
