  1. nerd heart geek is the best review yet. not just because it's gushing, but because he acknowledges the band's history and puts this album in context.

  2. Yeah, that is a great review: very well thought out and very well-written.

And hah, about TRSW: "Definitely a grower." Someone else told me that song was a "grower", too...and he was very right! ;)

  3. i agree with 98% of everything in the nerd heart geek review.
    really nice job!

i was hating trsw for a while there but it's been awesome masturbation material for the past 4 days, so i guess i'll have to reconsider!

("is she kidding?" i'll never tell!)

  4. What a great review. The guy knows his subject matter!

At points I was thinking this guy read my mind ... comments on Cure personnel BANG ON. Comment about the lost decade of mediocrity after Porl and Boris left (ie WMS/Bloodflowers and partial redemption with TC).

Great song analysis. Agree with comments on every song.

    Thanks for posting the link!

  6. nerd (heart) geek reviews have captured my own views of the singles, especially TPB. So I really am pleased to see a rate 8/10 from them!
I still haven't heard the album yet (DISPAIRS!!) so it's another good reason for me to keep the expectations way up high!

  9. This nerd geek is the best review so far. Very precise. I still don't think it deserves an 8/10 (a 7/10 maybe) but the writer got all the goods and bads of the album and their previous albums that are what are really always used for comparisons. He even thinks that the bass in TRW is too NO-ish... and what I've said before about the "trillion Roberts" in the choruses, are the mentioned "vocal effects".

  10. Yeah, great review. He is almost right on every song, but i like "switch".
When I put the CD in my player this morning, it was the "fastest" hour I had for quite a while. It was just over when it begun. So really damm good, and the finish with "the scream" and " it´s over" is brilliant. Good job!

Maybe the best review I read all year. He actually listened to the record and had some knowledge!

  12. Thanks for all the feedback, folks! I've been a huge Cure fan for long time and it's cool to write about a subject that I'm really excited about. I half expected to get raked over the coals for my constant Bloodflowers bashing, but luckily that hasn't happened.

After the Rome show, TRSW was my least favorite song, but after hearing the studio version I finally "got" it (much as I did with "Freakshow".

Don't get me wrong, I do like "Switch", but there's something odd about it that makes it stand against the pack in a strange way. Still, a fun rocker.

  13. paul, i actually feel the same way about switch. i can't get into it in the same way as the rest of the album. filler to me.

i LOVE strange attraction, btw. we didn't disagree on much else. great review!

  14. This is the best thought out and written review that I have seen so far. I did especially like this line though:
"More importantly, Smith has finally reestablished himself as one of the most important songwriters in the last three decades."
    :D

  15. Now that's a review I want to read. The nerd (heart) geek review is best most well written review I've read about the album. (Well I loved revs for the same reasons too!) Very well thought out and full of great cure facts, it was a pleasure to read. Thanks for sharing!
