"I made a matrix of Underneath the Stars (and a little enhancement) based on two different recordings of the Hollywood Bowl show (DMLIVE2K2 and ITP). It sounds pretty good to me (mainly because the song is just damn good)."
Underneath The Stars (live at the Hollywood Bowl) FLAC
And here's the WAV version.

All you people lovingly taping, mixing and sharing just ROCK. Seriously. Thank you.
ReplyDelete"OH HELL YES!!". Love this song.
ReplyDeleteThanks, this is amazing! OT, does anyone have a mp3 file or flac of Baby Rag Doll Book (without 100 years)?
ReplyDeleteWow, Robert is singing the ending differently than the other versions.
ReplyDeleteChills.
Man I couldn't agree more. SHUT THE HELL UP! Call me crazy but I go to shows to listen... I can't wait to hear a studio version!
ReplyDeleteseeing this song live at the bowl was amazing. the waves crashing sent chills up my spine. it's a brilliant song, perfect to open the album.
ReplyDeletepeople at shows need to STFU when music is playing. seriously. i'm all in favor of cattle prods and stun guns to regulate this dream-scenario. imagine...being able to hear music without the a-hole next to you complaining about how they forgot to put jalapenos on his nachos...in a perfect world...
ReplyDeleteHoly yikes, shut up is right! Even the taper "should have brought the other mikes" talks too much!
ReplyDeleteThey sound amazing!!! Can't anyone run it through a tool that takes out the chatty cathys?
I think all of us COF'ers should start a fund to buy out an entire arena for a Cure show.
ReplyDeleteNo yapping idots or people who only know the words to Lovesong....Just one big hefty bill to pay off.....
oh man the new ending.....
ReplyDeletethe hell is a "matrix"?
ReplyDeleteGreat version, great RS different singing of the other one,in some parts more passionate.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, but why are these people chatting when UTS is being played?
People, you´re on a Cure concert, you´re listening the beauty of UTS.
It´s supposed you go to a gig for hearing live music, not for a talking, you can do it in your house.
Shame on you !!!
But not even your nonsense chatting, save us from enjoying this delightful piece of the sky.
UTS is the best OH HELL YES !!!
Thanks so much, I'm DLing it right now!
ReplyDeleteDifferent lyrics again, here's my attempt at decipherment:
ReplyDeleteFloating here like this with you
Underneath the stars above
For 13 billion years, a view
It's beautiful, and ours alone tonight
Underneath The Stars
Spinning round and round with you
Watching shadows melt the light
Shining from our eyes, a tear
Another space is ours alone tonight
Watching shadows melt
The waves....break
The waves....break
???? with you
deep and drifts ???
A voice inside my head, a kiss
It's infinite, and ours alone tonight
Deep in ????
If I were here like this with you
Underneath the stars at night
For 13 billion years, a view
It's beautiful, and ours alone tonight
Underneath the stars
And Everything Wrong
Ours still to call
It's nothing to Earth
Together as one
In Each other's arms
So Near and so far
Together as now
Underneath the stars
And the waves....break
what if we're all wrong, and the lyrics are about long distance service on his mobile phone? wouldn't that be a bummer?
ReplyDelete"the hell is a "matrix"?"
ReplyDeleteSofia - Matrix is a highly over-rated sci-fi movie trilogy. : )
damn flacs.
ReplyDeletei give up. this flac crap is too complicated. everywhere i go to try to get software for my mac in order to play flac files, it's all complex and shit.
ReplyDeletei'm just a simple girl from the farm. i just want to hear these songs and then go milk some cows.
Hollywood bowl show was amazing.
ReplyDeleteThey were all strong.
I was so glad that Robert's voice was all fixed by this show. He really hit it out of the park with his singing. Everyone played better than ever.
However, I cannot forgive them for playing Faith at the Shrine show. I've wanted to hear that live, for the last 20+ years! The first time I saw them in Miami for the Wish tour, my friend and I almost made a sign to hold up during the show.
Plus A Strange Day.
How could I have been deprived of my 2 favorite songs.
Show was good, but I had seen them do those songs live before, so, nothing new for me :(
Actually, I had never seen them doing The Kiss, that song kicked major ass. And it was a treat getting the 17 seconds medley.
i was bummed i missed the shrine show, but i console myself with the fact that i have seen faith live, including a ten minute version on the swing tour. a life changing moment for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe other UTS mix was much better. The incessant chatting just makes me want to punch people in the throat.
ReplyDeleteSans voices, this would be a fantastic recording.
The new ending is SO MUCH BETTER.
ReplyDeleteif any mac users have Toast 9 installed, that'll play FLAC files directly. if you don't have it, i feel sorry for you. :P
ReplyDeleteLMAO novembertrilogy!!!
ReplyDelete(I was laughing about your first post, not the last, btw! lol)
ReplyDeleteCraig, you need help, seriously.
ReplyDeletehpantazo, scroll to the bottom of the front page of the blog. There's a link to a video of Baby Rag Dog Book w/out 100 Years. Also, if you look around, you'll be able to find a link to an m4a audio file take from the video.
Oh, and I know that some people here have commented on the song Going Nowhere, so I was wondering, have any of you heard the alternate version? It's really quite good.
ReplyDeleteCat - VLC plays FLAC files on my MACs...
ReplyDeleteI still need to work out the transition part into a file iTunes will play but I've got time (and a nerd brother) for that! I'll let you know if I find a teacher friendly way, ok?
Mac people you need to download xACT and use it to convert the file to a .AIFF format. Then import it into iTunes and lastly have iTunes convert selection to .mp3, .acc, whatever you want it to do. You can find the program here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952
Hope this helps!
Thanks Jenny!
ReplyDeleteSee Cat? I told you someone would find a solution!
Jenny? WTF? I'm a dude! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome!
Thanks so much, Pilal!
ReplyDeleteLooking at some of the comments here about how people should shut up during songs, I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteThe only recordings of the premiere and second of Radiohead's Videotape is absolutely tarnished from idiots who won't shut up because it's supposedly a boring old new song. Bell weather fans show no respect, which is a real problem with the rock concert mentality.
All the talking in this recording is unbelievable. Why do people talk during a concert (not to mention it's a Cure concert)? I've been to quite a few rock concerts and everyone knows you should shut up when people on stage is playing.
ReplyDeleteBig thanks to Pilal for sharing this. The new ending is just, WOW. The way Robert sings it gives me goosebumps. I can't even describe how I love this song.
I'll try to upload a link to the wave once I convert it; it won't lose any sound quality. Any preferences?
ReplyDeleteI'll try using sendspace.com
By the way, Craig, you're right about Matrix being so over-rated. :)
Sophia, a matrix is a combination of various source recordings. So, let's say there are 3 people who recorded last night's show: one was too basey and another was too treble, while the other had the best vocals but too much chatter. Someone could mix them and make the perfect recording. I have no idea how to do this, but someone did it for the Toronto 2 2006 Radiohead show and it was a substantial improvement over what the other 3 tapers had individually accomplished, though it was a bit trebly.
when i saw radiohead a few weeks ago, i wanted to judo kick the bastard to my immediate left. during nude, i actually did tell him to shut the hell up after my first two attempts to get him to stop yelling into his cell phone didn't work. let me see...you're at a concert, but you need to discuss business for 4 minutes straight? hang up the phone. at least i got my revenge later on when he and his aerosmith video floozie got kicked out of my section for not having the tickets to be there.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a nightmare, Novembertrilogy! What scum! I wish you could have taken his cell phone and smashed it. People can be incredibly selfish at concerts. I wish hardcore fans wouldn't invite their bell weather fans if they're going to be unruly, you know? It's not a bloody party; there are rules of conduct, and it should be about letting everyone enjoy the music! People can talk shit any time, why now! I also got annoyed the guy next to me (who moved to that seat because it was empty near the end of the show) started singing along to "You and Whose Army?" during the quiet intro; I just glared at him. He was also smoking in a closed venue.
ReplyDeleteAlso, people need to cut out the amateur film-making and photography, if they're gonna jut their cameras/cellphones above their heads so people behind can't see.
This guy next to me at a Radiohead gig
Ugg, tell me about it, I was at the Chicago show and two guys were talking in front of me the whole show. they kept moving back and forth talking into each others ears so they would step in front of me each time and I couldn't see. I'm only 5 ft ish, so it's difficult to see. I brought my mom with me to see the Cure and she kept switching spots with me so that I could see and of course they kept migrating in front of me no matter where i was. It's my bad concert luck i guess. But definitely, people need to be a little more respectful to people around them. I mean why pay money for a ticket if you aren't going to even watch the show!?
ReplyDeleteHere's the wave file. You can post this on the main page, Cragers!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sendspace.com/file/5h39dj
I know what you mean, Michelle. I hate when that happens because you can't ever find a crack of space through which to watch the show. What assholes!
ReplyDeleteI was so lucky in Toronto because this really tall guy next to me agreed to switch places so I could be behind the shorter girlfriend of this annoying tall guy who kept holding a camera and holding his arm up. If it weren't for that amazing kindness from the guy next to me; I would have had a miserable time.
It makes me reconsider the value of a pit seat, if you're just gonna be behind tall people. I'm thinking 100-level seats right to the side next concert!
at this point in my life (33 years old), i actually get excited when i have the chance to grab 100 sec seats on either side! of course i still stand, but at least you can see a little bit. i always felt bad taking my ex-girlfriend to shows. she was only 5' 2" and ended up staring at peoples backs and shoulders most of the time.
ReplyDeletecraig: nyah! ppppthhhhbbbbbb!
ReplyDeletemuldfeld: thank you for being so helpful!
:)
i AM the short girlfriend! my boyfriend is super tall (well, to me anyhow) :c so please be nice to me at my cure shows!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, sophia. You were in Row 15? I was glad you weren't tall, and you were so well-behaved, unlike some people! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wave file. I can play that, finally. It sounds amazing, but the people talking ruins it for me. I swear I will prolly knee someone in the balls or labia if they talk like this during ANY song!
ReplyDeleteAnd what is up with the last minute or so of UTS...?? I don't like it at all. He changed it and it sucks.
No problem, clockwise cat.
ReplyDeleteI guess this means it's going to be on the darker album if he's still experimenting with it, eh, folks.
muldfeld, don't say that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleterobert, one night, drunk: "this is the best song the cure ever did, so let me work on it for another four years"
ReplyDeletemuldfeld, where were you in Toronto? I was in the 20th row, right side on the floor. I had to keep holding my camera over the heads of a couple of tall guys in front of me.
ReplyDeleteWhat does everyone else think about this alternate ending of UTS?
ReplyDeleteCat, IMO the new ending rocks. I love how emotional Robert sounds. But as for the studio version on the SEPTEMBER ALBUM (yes, I believe it will be on the September album - if we wish hard enough it will be true), the ending of Denver version (a.k.a Oh Hell Yes mix) might work better.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry if this is off-topic, but can anyone get into thecure.com? It says "the page cannot be displayed." Does this mean they're FINALLY doing something about it?
muldfeld: "You're welcome, sophia. You were in Row 15?"
ReplyDeleteno! im sorry for being confusing.
i just meant i'm always the short girlfriend at any show you go to. the quintessential short gf who is always on her tippy toes and trying to climb up her boyfriend's arm :/
my shows are the last 2 shows! i WISH i was at the shrine though!
sorry that was me, muldfeld! damn multiple google acounts...
ReplyDeleteThanks Fox Mulder. : )
ReplyDeleteJust posted it on the front page.
Oh I love love love this song soooo much! It's one of the most beautiful songs ever! And everything a Cure song should be!
ReplyDeleteI can never download anything from these shared files, they give me nothing but problems, so I can't hear the alternate ending yet :(
Hopefully, I'll get to hear it live very soon though!
jenny, i wish i liked the new ending, but i hate it. i think it's really overdone and incongruous with the rest of the song. most of the song is whispery and mellow as far as vocals, and then he has to go sound like a tortured cat. wtf!
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the dreamier Red Rocks ending of UTS. I hope Robert includes the dreamier version on the album.
ReplyDeleteclockwise... you don't like the ending?? i think it's absolutely amazing... so much better then the other version. The tortured cat sound is trademark for robert smith anyways, it's perfect.
ReplyDelete"most of the song is whispery and mellow as far as vocals, and then he has to go sound like a tortured cat. wtf!"
ReplyDeleteOkay, I gotta listen to this now. :) My curiosity is piqued!
i was there at the show- it was incredibly emotional and beautiful. he sounded near tears. it was a perfect end to the song.
ReplyDeleteyou wanna talk tortured cat, go listen to that terrifying version of going nowhere....
i would like to hear that actually monkey butt... where do i listen to it at?
ReplyDeletecorrosive, wow. i forget which thread it was in. it was one of the first u.s. shows, mad bob posted the link. i think it's in the middle section, i.e. comments 200-400. other than that, i can't remember which city it was, but within the first five i'd say. sorry i can't remember.
ReplyDeleteIt was the second page of comments for the Vancouver show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it still works, but here is the link that Mad Bob RJS posted.
Hope that helps. :)
v, thanks you beat me to it:
ReplyDeletehttp://rapidshare.com/files/113979577/TheCure_goingnowhere.mp3.html
still can't do the clicky :(
anyway, it's still valid.
MonkeyButt: Cool - I can't get to that site from work, so I couldn't test it before posting it. :) Glad it's still valid - I have yet to check it out myself!
ReplyDeleteThe clicky is easy - just some simple HTML tags. I can show you how to do it if you want. :)
thanks, v. maybe you could email me (if you'd like). i tried what the cat gave me the other day, but when i tried to post it here, it just took me away from the thread and didn't post anything.
ReplyDeleteMonkeyButt: I am emailing you now. :)
ReplyDeleteGeez monkey and v, what do you two have against the alternate version of Going Nowhere? I think that Robert sounds rather impassioned.
ReplyDeleteshawn-w: Huh? I just provided a link to it; I didn't render an opinion about it either way.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a good thing, since I haven't even heard it yet! :P
all i said was that it's terrifying. i was so used to the original that when r's voice came out on this alt take, i was actually startled. the range in which he's singing sounds completely out of context with the gentleness of the rest of the song. to me, at least.
ReplyDeletei agree, monkeyarse. i can't stand the alt version of going nowhere. his vocals are completely incongruous for the solemnity of the song. it sounds like someone is sticking a plugged-in curling iron up a cat's anus.
ReplyDeletenot that i endorse animal abuse.
as for this version of uts: i only heard it once, but disliked it. maybe if i hear it again i'll change my mind. stay tuned.
I think that the vocals in the alternate version fit in as well as those on the album release, just in a different way.
ReplyDeleteI'll say it here for the first time but Underneath The Stars is officially my favorite Cure song EVER. Period.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think it was possible to beat Disintegration but this song is pure magic to me. It makes me happy, emotional, thoughtful and serein all at once. I'm never felt that way before about art. It's unreal.
Like many of you I presume, I have shared such moments with a loved one, underneath the stars, with the ocean nearby and this songs makes me regret those points and time in my past and wanting others for the future!
Robert Smith is fucking brilliant.
P.S. About the Hollywood version per say: People, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
