So, the song that has been the most lambasted of all the new ones actually has chart potential... Who would have guessed? It actually sounds more like a middle-of-the-road B-side to me. Even though it´s kind of nice, I have to admit that.
ReplyDelete#1 in Canada?!? I haven't heard it even a mention of it on ANY radio station here! What the...???
ReplyDeleteIt's because they don't release singles anymore in Canada. There are 4 names on that chart...
ReplyDeleteNot too hard to top, but still nice I guess.
You'll see it in future liner notes in Dream 13 Special Extended Edition in 2013, how The Cure was back on top! #1 in Canada woohoo!!
"It's because they don't release singles anymore in Canada. There are 4 names on that chart..."
ReplyDeleteHeh... well, that certainly puts things in a slightly different perspective. I hope that, all in all, The Cure don't actually lose money in the process?
I always remember that New Order extended single, "Blue Monday", which supposedly was the most successful 12" of all times, sales-wise, but that apparently caused the group to lose money. Production costs were too high, it seems...
yea...
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't listen to the radio at all, I follow the charts from time to time out of curiosity/habit...
I've never even glimpse The Only One, unfortunately. Anyway the web is where it's at.
Reminds me of a Beck song.
the stuff that's on the charts in america is WAY better than the cure. we have rihanna, jordan sparks, danity kane, and ray j and yung berg doing their version of 'sexy can i'

/disgusted sarcasm.
*Was scared for a moment*
ReplyDeleteOne thing that baffles me is how such garbage keeps ending up in the Top 40. Sure, there's some genuinely good stuff, but much of it, well, isn't.
ReplyDeleteActually I find lots of stuff baffling in everyday life but, yea, that's one of them.
ReplyDeleteThat's very strange that it's so popular. No, wait, no it's not. It sounds like a tepid reheating of anything between 87-92, therefore the dorky masses with eat it up. Mediocrity thrives!
ReplyDeleteI tells ya, EOTW was WORLDS better.
I got "The Only One" on iTunes on my home computer but at work I listen to it on Rhapsody. Despite all my listens to it on Rhapsody since its release it never showed up on The Cure's most popular track listing here until Craig mentioned it and now it's #1. Wonder if there's a correlation.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I would like to state that I like one of Rihanna's most popular songs... that UM-BAH-REH-LLA ditty. I think it´s better than "The Only One".
ReplyDeleteThere, I said it.
