Lol confirms work with Michael

"Regarding your post from someone who said that Lol was working with Michael Dempsey on the new Levinhurst album along with an unnamed guitarist, I've just confirmed it. I posted on Levinhurst's board and asked Lol:

"Lol, Craig posted a statement on Chain of Flowers from someone who said that Michael Dempsey plays bass on the new album, and that there's a guitarist, as well, but their name isn't mentioned. Is this true?"

To which Lol responded today:
"Yes It is! Michael recently came out to California and we worked on nine new songs with Eric Bradley ( Levinhurst Live Guitarist ) and Cindy. We hope to finish the new album for release around october/november time"

(Thanks Shawn)

  1. Quite "revealing" to read the "Biography" section on Levinhurst site!

After mentioning having co-written such hits as Let's Go To Bed, The Walk and Caterpillar, it simply reads:

"Now, fast forward into the 21st century."

    lmao

  2. It's so good to hear these reports from people who have had interactions with Lol, and to see the pics of him at the show the other night. :) And it's cool that he and Michael Dempsey are collaborating!

Am I right in remembering that Lol did a couple of tours with Andy Anderson some time back? Did anyone go to any of those shows? I think I remember seeing them listed on Ticketmaster many moons ago, but I was never able to check one out. :) I was always very curious about them.

  3. V - I don't remember any Lol/Andy shows. Anyone else? Would love to hear about it.

I received a very nice note from Lol yesterday:

    "Hello Craig!
I am an avid reader of Cof! Its much more informative than my myspace! Keep up the good work. Without you no cure fan would have any idea of what's going on!
    Love Lol "

He is SO nice. Made my day.

  4. Craig: That note from Lol is sooo sweet!!! :) Put a big smile on my face. Yay, Lol!

As for the aforementioned shows, now I have to find information about it before you think I'm making things up. :) I swear I didn't dream this, but now I'm gonna feel like a crazy lady if no one else can corroborate...let me see if I can find something.

  5. That note from Lol is great. Maybe in the future you might be lucky enough to squeeze an interview out of him.

  6. v and Craig, Andy was supposed to play with Levinhurst during at least one of their first shows, but due to problems with Immigration, he wasn't able to make it over. An article about it, which I can't find at the moment, stated that Lol was forced to spend most of the show playing "other instruments". During our conversation back in August 2004, I brought this article up to him and asked if he was bothered by references to him playing "other instruments". He basically said no, but looking back, I remember his demeanor changing slightly during his response to that question, so perhaps it does still get to him somewhat, or at least did then. Of course, I could have read too much into it.

Though I can't find the aforementioned article, I did find another one in which he's asked about Andy...

  7. Shawn-W: Interesting! So at least we know that Lol and Andy have worked together a bit since The Cure. :) The shows I am remembering are well before Levinhurst's time, I believe; I want to say they were in the 1990s? I really am desperate to find some info about this now, because it seems so weird to me to remember something that I can't find any backup for! C'mon, Google, help me out! :D

  8. You know, Andy also did the drumming on The Glove's Blue Sunshine, and is, in fact, in a video that they did on some British show. During said video, I also noticed very short bits showing someone that looked an awful lot like Porl playing a violin, but I don't remember ever reading anything about Porl working with Robert and Steve Severin on that project. Here's a link to the video...

  9. According to Wikipedia Porl played violin and Keyboards in The Glove videos.

  10. Ah, so that IS Porl. Interesting.

Well, I´m no Google but maybe I can help. I think the "Never Enough" Cure biography mentions a live collaboration between Lol and Andy, as a 2-piece band (or at least that was my conclusion). Check the pages in "The Top" section and you will find the reference.

Well, Lol was already used to doing that in Cure albums, no? No great problem for him, I suppose.

    :D

  14. Revolt: That is far more helpful than anything "the Google" has given me so far! :) That sounds like it is what I'm talking about.

  15. I believe you are referring to the Tolhurst/Anderson project "Orpheus" who were to play Cure conventions in the late 90s.

Here's the COF news from Sep 97 announcing it.

And here is the review which only mentions lol. (Perhaps the Andy's immigration issue prevented it going ahead.

  16. wallydv: Yesss! This has got to be it!!! I'm pretty sure they played at least one or two shows in Florida around that time. Cool! I feel much less crazy now. :) Thanks for posting this!

Now I feel bad for not checking the COF archives first. :) What better source is there?
