The colours look slightly different in places compared to the first version we saw.
Still loving the artwork.
On a side note do you think the offical site will add a preview like they did with the Only One?? Ha! just kidding! We are talking about the offical website here. Exprect The Only One preview to be on there for a looooong time.
A poll won't tell us what the last 2 singles will be. : ) Rumors at the "mighty Universal" were saying The Perfect Boy would be one of them, but there's nothing confirmed on that.
Perhaps NME might like to update their database with this new promo pic, they are still running photos with Roger and Perry (sigh : () even though they acknowledge the band is now a four piece....idiots!
NME is so cynical and annoying, them and Pitchfork need a good spanking!
Porl looks like a character from Rock Band...BUT for some reason, it works on stage! I kinda like a normal Jason though, sans guyliner. Robert looks great! Like a younger version of him! Simon always looks good...
the promo shot is the same as the one used in the 4 tour book for the album 4:13... i sent it to craig last august (check out http://www.pbase.com/craigparker/perth_080407&page=all )
I'm with JPX. SWID and PB are quite likely the other two singles. However, IMO it would be brilliant if they make either BRDB or UTS a single. Wishful thinking, maybe...
Sooooo... anyone found anyone samples off the new single yet? I should be getting THE ONLY ONE in the mail from Amazon today!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Only about a month late >:(
JPX, that's insane. Don't you want to try ordering online? I got my Only One a week after it's released. That's pretty fast considering it came straight from UK.
Cat, I guess you're right. UTS is too good for the stupid radio stations to play anyway. And the single version might cut out most of the beautiful intro... But in a perfect world, a song like UTS should be the best-selling single ever. As for the world we're living in, well...you know what I'm going to say.
Jenny, I know I'm actin like a child but I refuse to order it online. I feel like I should be able to walk into any of the many music stores around me and find it. It shouldn't be this obscure thingm it's The Cure for crying out loud. Of course, I'm not hurting anyone but myself. JPX is an idiot.
jpx... I'm kinda with ya. I called about every store in my area I could think of and when they all gave me the same crappy answer, I used part of my Amazon gift credit and ordered it. According to the tracking info, it should be here today.
"meshuggah? i don't even know what's considered black metal anymore."
I suppose Meshuggah are called technical thrash metal... or maybe avantgarde? 8actually, I looked this up in wikipedia, since I too was not too sure how to classify them).
Anyway, I suppose good black metal bands nowadays are the likes of Deathspell Omega, Leviathan or Averse Sefira...
But this is the kind of stuff I kind of feel bad suggesting to Cure fans. Makes "Pornography" sound like sweet lullabies to enchant little babies. :)
Zach, one really good music store I went to informed me that both copies they had were sold. I'm like, "You only had two copies? It's the friggin' Cure! Am I the only one who still cares about this band???" I've noticed that people don't seem to carry CD singles any more. I'm getting old.
revolt, i thought deathspell omega sounded silly as hell. but i DID kinda like leviathan and i see they are friends with sunn o))) who i love very much.
the last one i don't have an opinion on. all the spikes distracted me ;)
Sofia, you like sunn o)))!? (or however that´s spelled...) You're into dark stuff, then. Maybe the black metal suggestions were not so out of place, after all...
Anyway, I sincerely don´t know how anyone can say that Deathspell Omega "sound silly"... "Hateful" I would understand. Are you sure about that? They have a whole concept (music + lyrics) that can be rather disturbing. They are totally misanthropic and they seem to be serious about it.
Well, since we're on the subject, I think I can also recommend Negura Bunget. They are Romanian and are more musical then the others mentioned. All their albums are really good, but I actually can imagine some Cure fans liking some of the stuff on their "OM" album. Anyway, they are more of the "mysterious/folk roots" type than of the "evil/misanthropic" variety... Not that I can understand the lyrics, mind you.
Well, I suppose you also like Neurosis and Cult of Luna?
Have you ever checked the more doomy side of metal? Bands like Esoteric, Evoken, Shape of Despair? They all have at least one metal masterpiece in their catalogues and I suppose they would be the kind of metal that would have the greater chances of appealing to those who like "serious" Cure.
PS: High on Fire are good fun, but I find them a bit too traditionalist and rocky. I usually prefer metal to be real METAL! :)
Hey, Craig, could you get it any bigger? I don't think that image is big enough. :P

Where's the picture gone to?
ReplyDeletei was looking for online previews of FS and AKOS for a long time earlier, actually. couldn't find anything...yet.
ReplyDeleteShawn - blame the Universal Germany press site. : )
ReplyDeleteMonkeybutt, I too was searching the net today looking for samples of those tunes while I should've been working, alas, nothing.
ReplyDeleteoh great, new single in a few days and I just gor The Only One today...finally.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't we know by now which song will be the third single?
ReplyDeleteCraig, a poll?
A poll won't tell us what the last 2 singles will be. : )

i fucking love porl.
ReplyDeleteIs it my eyes, or is Simon wearing two belts?
ReplyDeleteAnd apologies to everyone else for providing the fangirls with an excuse to stare at his crotch...
Perhaps NME might like to update their database with this new promo pic, they are still running photos with Roger and Perry (sigh : () even though they acknowledge the band is now a four piece....idiots!
ReplyDeleteNME is so cynical and annoying, them and Pitchfork need a good spanking!
well with a package that bulky you gotta have two belts to rein it in.
ReplyDeleteSleep When I'm Dead must be one of the new singles.
ReplyDeleteI'd put my money on Baby Rag Dog Book being the next single after Freakshow. Just a gut feeling.
ReplyDeleteThe Cure have never made the final song on an album a single, so I guess that this would be the perfect time to throw us for a loop. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, could you make a single out of something with a two minute intro that's only about four minutes long?
My guess is that it will be Sleep and Perfect Boy.
ReplyDeletePorl looks like a character from Rock Band...BUT for some reason, it works on stage!

two words: dimmu borgir

ReplyDeleteSofia, don´t. If you are going to mention black metal bands in a Cure blog, at least choose a decent one, dammit!
ReplyDeleteSooooo... anyone found anyone samples off the new single yet? I should be getting THE ONLY ONE in the mail from Amazon today!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Only about a month late >:(
ReplyDeleteZach, I still haven't been able to locate The Only One in any music store in my area, it's infuriating!
ReplyDeletejenny, it would indeed be brill if they had BRBD as a single, but UTS would never be played.
ReplyDeleteI think APB could do wonders on the charts - not that I care. ;-)
revolt, as if i ENJOY bringing up black metal at all, but dude...porl is totally galder.

Hey, Sofia, it´s alright, black metal IS NOT supposed to be ENJOYED...
ReplyDeleteNo Mosh, No Core, No Fun, No Trends!
:-D

revolt, i don't know that i like "dark" necessarily. i like low end drone and like sludge/stonerrock.
ReplyDeletesleep, isis, om, earth, high on fire...
ill check those guys out.
Sofia: low and slow, os it? ;)
