  16. The band's keeping the tempo very high, with hardly any breaks between the songs. They're probably trying to make the most of the two hours. Means more songs for the webcast as well. :)

  19. Hmm, Reeves' guitar is again too low in the mix on FTEOTDGS for my tastes. I loved the way it sounded at Bilbao.

  20. I do love watching Robert and Simon together in front of Jason

  21. Robert doesn't speak much with his guest Reeves, does he?

Also I was in the area these days (but not attending the concert) and couldn't find information about the festival in Tourist Ofice points, strange.

  22. The big question now is: will they end the main set with The Top? Fingers crossed!

  34. While Jason has improved and has stopped -for most of the songs- playing those amateurish drum fills, he still looks uncomfortable and doesn't play like a 'real' drummer. And by 'real drummer' I mean, with conviction.

Just by looking at his nervous face, makes me nervous too and makes me afraid for him making a huge error.

He still can't play FTEOTDGS properly. The tom to fills in Push are repeated again and again...

Anyway, he has improved but HE IS NOT in the same league as BORIS or ANDY...

  40. I don't really hate Jason but I can tell when a musician is doing his/her job.

For example Gabrel Reeves is doing a WONDERFUL job and I can tell since day one. I UTTERLY LOVE PORL THOMPSON the best guitar player The Cure ever had but Reeves is doing the job very well and has learned the songs fast. That didn't happen with Jason back in 1995.

So, if I say that JC is not that good and didn't impress me is because I can feel and hear it.

    1. And people like you have been banging on about this for 17 years now, its not going to change.
If I was going to be picky then I'd say Jason's drums were great in 1995, took a bit of a drop 1997-2001, went good again in 2002-2009 and have been fantastic since Reflections.

      Delete
    2. That's it. I really ask myself why there is someone at almost every concert time saying this...all over the years...it feels like someone complaining about his boss and wife the same way every night in the pub while having beer after beer. For me, it's pointless and dull.

      Delete
    3. if any drummer plays the drum part of Other voices, can you recognize the song?

If any drummer begins to play Just Like Heaven will you be able to say "ah! that is Just like heaven?

      I bet you will!

It doesn't happen with Jason's drum parts sadly.

      Delete
    4. The day Jason makes something really good in a studio album, I will be happy.

Until then he is just "fantastic" playing other drummer's compositions...

(does fantastic means that he is playing the drum parts as recorded in studio? does it has any merit?)

    6. If you like ANYTHING of Bloodflowers, The Cure The Cure or 4:13 Dream, those are ALL JASON. If you don't like him and you don't like anything from those three albums at all, just give up being a fan, or better yet, stop whining about how much you hate it. It's boring and stupid, and you are just trolling.

      Delete
    7. Jason's getting better and better and I don't have problems with him anymore! :)

      Delete
    8. Sofia Ramos is a very famous indie rock player. Who's Robert Smith again ? Oh yeah, that stupid wanker who doesn't know who to choose to play in his band for 36 years. Last example : Gabrels, the worst guitar player I've ever heard. Poor Sofia, you pretend being an expert but I bet you wouldn't play 5% of 'The Cure' drum lines. I love Boris but I love Jason as much as Boris. And I can read that lots lots of people are appreciating his play, even the most reluctant ones.

    9. A lot of people out there will tell you JC is good, i'd say he's fxxxing awesome :)

  42. I was glad to see they changed the setlist!
Excellent image and sound quality from Dailymotion.
About Jason... well, he has a new drumset and sounds better than before, better even than in 1995. If I were his adviser then I would recommend him to change his cymbals, play POY like in the record and don't play the classic drumfill of dah----dah-dah-bum! that annoys sometimes :)

  48. I am still so stoked that The Cure is playing The Top on this tour! I've loved the song for many years, and I had no hope at all that they would play it live ever again. To know that the band acknowledges the song and to read all the positive reactions here, gives me all sorts of warm and fuzzy feelings inside.

  49. Review from Sylvain:

My second and last show of the SummerCure 2012, after Belfort. Great organization and atmosphere at this festival 'as usual' (this is the third time I go to the Paleo).
It was still early dusk when The Cure came on stage and it was nice to see them appearing in the 'daylight' for the first time.
No Plainsong bells, no (Tape)... I thought to myself 'What's happening?'. Shake dog shake, what a surprise! It reminded me of the '98 festivals.
I think it was not as powerful as it was back then, but anyway a nice starter for a special show... special because, as you can see, the songs came in a different order from what we've been used to on this tour so far.

The set turned pop with The walk, EOTW ... JLH : very good atmosphere in the audience, many people clapping hands and dancing, including quite a lot of young teenagers. The cure : an 'old' band that stills rocks :o) Nice versions of FTEOTDGS and then Pictures of you.
I don't know why, but it sounded more emotional than ever to me, and Robert's 6 string bass sounds really good on this tour, like the good old days.
Then the audience went crazy again with the pop songs that followed, especially with Close To Me and Lovecats. On Lullaby, Reeves used an electric guitar instead of the acoustic one he was using before, and he sounded even better than in Belfort. After Lovecats, Robert grabbed his acoustic guitar and was about to go for 'Friday', but the rest of the band told him it was not this one. That was a funny moment, with Roger using his fingers to mime antennas on his own head :o) Yes Robert, that was time for The Caterpillar! A great moment to hear this one live for the first time! And then, even if they 'usually don't play this one on wednesday', Friday I'm in love, and everyone crazy again.. as for Doing The Unstuck which kept the audience in the same mood.

Then Bananafishbones, in my opinion the strangest song of this summer's setlist, and one of the nicest gifts to old times Cure fans.
Play For Today with crowd singing the chorus, A Forest with a great end by Simon, and Primary which sounded really good and powerful!
From Want to 100 years, I think they increased the volume a bit too much because I felt a bit uncomfortable with the sound from time to time
and had to use my earplugs (Was it just me? I don't know)... Except for Wrong Number which is really great on this tour, and Reeves is doing an incredible job on guitar!

The Top! Undoubtedly the greatest moment of this show, and surely one of the greatest moments of my 14 Cure shows.
Crystal clear sound an voice, nice red lights and fog, I was completely sinking in the Cure world!

Then they left the stage for about 20 seconds, and Robert said something about really having only 3 minutes left.
And here we go for the shortest Encore I've seen with Boys Don't Cry that, as you know, has an incredible effect on the crowd!

That was my 14th Cure show and last one on this tour. I wish I could have seen 'The Same Deep Water As You'and 'Just One Kiss' but, as Robert said at some point last night, 'You can't always have what you want.'
I will keep great memories of this summer tour and lineup.

  50. Review from David Fargier:

We arrived from France, me from Valence by car, Antoinette and Nico by train from Paris and Soledad by train from Avignon. I first met our friend Gilles from Lausanne (CH) at a famous hotel where The Cure usually go when playing near Geneva but didn't see anything. Maybe they're going back to London after the show or were in another place booked by the Paleo... Anyway we took our cars to catch up the 3 others and went to the festival, about 25 km from Geneva, under a beautiful sun with The Horrors as a soundtrack of our little trip.

We arrived at about 5 pm. A beautiful place, incredibly smiley people, kind and welcoming. The venue is just amazing, in the country side with lots of space, good food, beautiful lighting system when night came. It's the best organization and site we visited this summer along with Barcelona (shame on you, Les Eurokéennes... guys you should travel around Europe to understand how you should do next year !).

A very good surprise for me as I met a friend's daughter who was working there. We had no idea we were both going to the Paleo (see you soon, Audrey and enjoy the rest of the festival !).

Hello to Antti, very nice guy I recognised thank to CoF pictures. Hello to Jenny, lovely girl, good chat after the show, see you again. And hello to the too sweeties from Nîmes, we've got an appointment for the next tour, don't forget !

We started having Champagne watching Warpaint, a very good girls band from California I had seen the week before in Bilbao on the Radiohead day. After two bottles of wine, we reached the very first rows of the main stage. French band Dionysos did an honourable set with lots of energy even if we're not really into their music. The sun was still high and hot but beers were there, like the other hundred pints we had drunk during the tour, to make us resist.

The Cure went on stage with a bang : 'Shake Dog Shake', not too powerful but energetic enough to enter directly into the show. So good to hear it as a starter again. Then a surprise with 'The Walk', catchy like hell. The crowd applauded and got into it and never quit dancing and applauding. Best audience we saw in 6 or 7 shows : brilliant ! The set was very well rebuilt with lots of singles, not played in the usual order but very efficient. Of course 'The Top' was the best moment of the concert, atmospheric with amazing lights and fog.

The boys really enjoyed, getting close together very often while playing, talking to each other, joking and I have to say, each one with each other. Very funny when Robert started his blahblahblah 'it's not the good day to play this song'... thinking it was the time for 'Friday I'm In Love'. The boys jumped to him as they had to do 'The Caterpillar' first.

The black point is the duration of the gig as The Cure didn't got extra time, playing for 'only' 2 hours. Robert came very close to the public as to apologise for not giving us some more songs.

By the way the set was of course shorter but intense, so we really enjoyed it and the public shared our feeling with so many youngsters discovering a fantastic OLD band in concert.

My five stars go to 'The Walk', 'Close To Me', 'Friday I'm In Love', 'Doing The Unstuck', 'From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea', 'Primary', 'A Forest' and 'The Top'.

    See you in Carhaix !

  51. I was really excited to hear that they started with Shake Dog Shake yesterday, but having reviewed the footage, it looks to me that they weren't quite ready to play a song usually reserved for further along in the set. It seemed a little forced. Still glad they went for it :).

Maybe it's just me, but it looked like Robert wasn't quite feeling right during the first part of the show, and his voice sounded off. Did anyone else get this impression? I haven't had time to watch the show again, so I've wondered if it was just my mood last night, or maybe my audio was off or something.
