Robert, stop reading this now! And DO NOT highlight the following text! And don't read the comments! ; )
But to everyone else going to the Vegas show, please highlight this: "I was thinking it would be really COOL to sing happy birthday to Robert in Vegas just before the 1st encore when he walks back on stage. If you could get the word out then most people will know to expect it and join in and make it that much louder! I think he would be tickled for sure." (Thanks KelBel)

ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea Kel!
ReplyDeletenice idea
ReplyDeleteHe's like TOTALLY reading this and thinking "But of COURSE they should!"
ReplyDelete;)
It's perfect, Kel!
good idea. im in.
ReplyDeleteterrible idea,
ReplyDeletegetting bob in a good mood during encore time, means even less of the tiny tiny chance of a faith encore.
don't do it.
Paul: Don't worry. The encores will be #1 - pop, #2 - old school, #3 - Faith. : )
ReplyDeletegood idea kel! Chris! Get on with making a sign! Lots o' glitter!
ReplyDeleteI hear you Paul and think you make a valid point. However, I'm thinking because it's a weekend that Simon will get to pick and we know he loves the pop encore...sigh.
ReplyDelete@ Craig - That sounds good to me, though #1 - KMKMKM, #2 - Old School, #3 -Full four song Faith encore would be cooler :)
YEAHHH!!!! GREAT IDEA!!!! I'M IN FOR SURE!!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY !!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAGREED !!!!!
Hey Robert humiliated Simon in L.A. on Simon's birthday so now it's time for Robert to get a spanking. Robert's 50th!!! In Las Vegas no less!!! He'll be so happy that he'll launch into a 23-minute long version of "The Same Deep Water As You." Then they play the B-side collection from "Japanese Whispers."
So, we finally have that to look forward to besides getting old and then dying.
Awesome idea! Wish I could be there. Can't wait to hear about it! :)
ReplyDeleteI think we should also do up a happy 50th birthday Robert poster and have everyone there sign it that wants to. What do you think??
ReplyDeleteCool idea! Sounds like a lot of fun! I can't be there but I'll be singing at home while following along in the Vegas Show Blog! :) Please someone tape this for the peeps who cannot be there!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think Robert will actually love it! Well I sure hope he does! If he gets embarrassed, he has to think of it this way....Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
YAY! This is a great idea! I am so excited!!!
ReplyDeleteKEL YOU ARE GENIUS!!
ReplyDeleteonly one catch...it's not his birthday.
ReplyDeleteWell I think we all know that, but there's not a show on his birthday, and it would be hard to do it at Coachella, so close enough.
ReplyDeleteLOL ROSEPETALS!!!
ReplyDeleteREV AND KEL! THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER!
someone pack the silly string!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic!!! I'll be there as will my mom, siblings and cousin.. I'll pass the word!
ReplyDeletecraig will you be attending the vegas show as well? :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteI can't sing at all, but with so many voices no one will notice! :)
Haven't you noticed that his birthday is a few days later? It is supposed to bring bad luck to say Happy Birthday before the real date. You wouldn't do that to Robert for sure!!!

ReplyDeleteCount me in! Assuming that I make it to Vegas. Just waiting on confirmation from the boss.
ReplyDeletei will make some flyers to pass out before the show to people going in, just a reminder. and of course i'll tell anyone i meet or see.
ReplyDeleteIt is not only one day before his birthday it is 4 days. So I don`t think that it makes sense to sing Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteSorry can`t agree. I would not like a birthday wish 4 days to early....
Good. Those worried about silly superstitions, or that it's too early, just don't sing! Your problem is solved. You can sing on April 21st. : P
ReplyDeleteTo the rest, who are simply trying to do something nice, and have a good time, have a blast!
That's such a cool idea! Just make sure at least one of you manages to film the expression on Robert's face! XD
ReplyDeletePlease for the love of God let this happen. His face would be priceless.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a blast!
ReplyDeleteFlight to Vegas and hotel: $400
Price of show ticket: $177
Look on Robert's face when the crowd breaks into "Happy Birthday": Priceless
(BTW - KelBel - you kick ass! You convinced me to go after Saturday night. TY!)
I think that is a great idea! I am soooo in! I think he will really appreciate the gesture!

ReplyDeleteSara that would be great if you could record the b-day sing-a-long! I'd hate to miss Robert's reaction when everyone starts to sing!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the sign!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe'll make it Thursday night in the hotel!

ReplyDeleteThanks
this will be so much fun. Someone bring the harmonica! lol
ReplyDeleteAre any of you guys actually staying at the Palms hotel?
ReplyDeleteawesome idea, KB! i salute your creativity!
ReplyDeletePalms is too pricey
ReplyDeletesofia! - I guess you are not coming then :( ?
ReplyDeleteSomeone should make a banner or something to pass around. Make sure it's big enough though, we all know Robert can't see past the 14th row :D
ReplyDeleteYou guys should make up some flyers saying that and hand them out to people going into the show. That way even people not on here will know!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, wish I could be there!!!
mock goth gurl - yeah, like April- Palms is crazy expensive. I dunno what others are doing, but bill's gambling hall was in the middle of the strip and reasonable, with a friend-of-a-friend reco, so I went for that. Where ever we all end up, we'll find each other in the end, right? : )
ReplyDeleteYou know the Palms are trying to rip-off unsuspecting Cure fans, when you can get a room cheaper at the Bellagio.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hotel tips you guys.
ReplyDeleteI always find the most stressfull part of these Cure shows is making all of the arrangements.
Sure wish I had an assistant to do it for me...or even the money to pay for this trip! I had saved for years for the summer shows, but this was a pleasant surprise!
For those who need to make travel arrangements, I highly recommend kayak.com. I usually start there to compare rates. They have great tools for finding exactly what you need. Then I go to the hotel or airline's direct website to actually book. Good luck, everyone!
ReplyDeleteKate, I do the exact same thing! Kayak is a great travel search engine. Something else to keep in mind, prices should come down as the date get s closer. Hotels and airlines will be offering specials to fill the empties.
ReplyDeleteThanks, crowbi-wan!
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion about waiting until the event is closer.
Try the Rio, its fairly close and inexpensive. That's where a lot are staying.
ReplyDeleteHaving stayed at the Palms once, it is certainly a rip-off & I wouldn't recommend anyone staying there. They've got some sort of idea that it's the premier place to stay in Vegas. No f**king way!!
ReplyDeleteThey overcharged me for a bare, bones basic room just because I was there during a concert event! The clubs & restaurants have nothing but over priced drinks, food & cover charges---if they even let you in! My friends & I were turned away from The Ghost Bar! I guess we were just way to nerdy to be allowed in?
I recommend staying at The Rio, The Flamingo or Harrah’s. They are modestly priced hotels not too far from The Palms. Vegas has over rooms 100,000+ rooms….more than any other major US city! So you don’t need to stay at the Palms but if you want to, I hope you have a better experience than I did.
And for the foodies out there, I'd stop by the Rio, they the best food in town at the Carnival World Buffet!!! Too much to chose from but Yum!!! And their clubs are cool too if you like that sort of stuff!
Also try bookingbuddy dot com....its pretty good for airfare and rooms. Also, if there is a certain hotel you like, sign up for their emailing list. They will email you great deals!
ReplyDelete*insider tip - when booking a hotel, ask for the travel agent rate. Sometimes its WAY less. Only prob is you may be asked for an IATA # or your TA card, but if you are not, its a sweet deal!..take this from a girl who's worked half her life in hotels!
ps - I got a SUPER sweet deal on a car in Vegas. If anyone is looking to rent a car, email me and I will give you the code! $10 a day for compact, $14 for full size.
ReplyDeleteI booked at Extended Stay America. Hotel room price $78.70 after taxes and everything. A 2 bed suite (beds seperated by a wall, you could take a room-mate) with fridge and kitchenette. Only a 2 star hotel with mixed reviews but if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep it is only 2blocks from the Palms
ReplyDeleteAPRIL~ i'll take that code! cat and i will need to rent a car to drive to LA on saturday!
ReplyDeleteSWEET DEAL!
and sorry april - i think you have my email - but just in case - its here in my profile!
ReplyDeletechris - emailing you now!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good idea! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME IDEA KEL! Too bad Robert's probably going to read this so it wont be an *actual* surprise, but good enough!
ReplyDeleteSarab- Thanks for trying to share with the rest of us who can't go! You rock! I hope you can get the look on Robert's face!! woohoo! *<333 crazy Curepeople*
I'm coming in from Detroit to see the show. I have never seen The Cure play in such a small venue. I am so excited! I hope to meet some of you while I am there and sing happy birthday to Robert with you!
ReplyDeleteMy wife just surprised me with a trip to Vegas and tickets to the show..........yeah she rules!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't Wait!
ReplyDeleteBrandon: She sounds like a keeper. : ) Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteBrandon: Wow, that is awesome!! Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteBrandon, that is awesome!
ReplyDeleteAs of today, we are going to Vegas, too!
Can't wait!
Anyone without a car looking to get to Rio, check out these sites. They have info on shuttles....Looks like you basically take a shuttle ($5.00) to the strip to Harrah's, then take another shuttle(FREE) from Harrah's to Rio (Rio is a Harrah's property). A taxi is around $15-20
ReplyDeletehttp://www.goingtovegas.com/kpv-get.htm and http://off2vegas.com/transit.html
Both are good sites.
chris has the paper ready for the banner for roberts bday and I have the paintbrushes! sign making party in chris' room at the rio thrus night!!!
ReplyDeletethanks sara! We'll be there!
