Robert has posted further info about the MTV live show:
THE REASONS WHY?
9/29/2008 2:20:56 PM - by CURE:ROBERT
THIS MTV SHOW JUST CAME UP OUT OF NOWHERE WE WERENT INTENDING PLAYING AGAIN FOR A WHILE BUT WE WERE OFFERED THIS HEADLINE SPOT IN THE WAY WE SOMETIMES ARE AND HAD THE IDEA OF PREMIERING THE NEW ALBUM LIVE IN ROME...
QUITE AMBITIOUS...AND QUITE EXCITING!
MTV HAVE AGREED TO AIR AT LEAST A CUT DOWN VERSION (AN MTV HOUR IS ONLY 45 MINUTES OR SO AND THE ALBUM IS 53+) ON EVERY MTV EUROPEAN STATION - HOPEFULLY WITHIN A WEEK OF THE EVENT - AT THE LATEST BEFORE NOVEMBER ENDS - AND IT WILL BE BROADCAST IN THE USA TOO*...
OH
AND YOU EVER KNOW IT MIGHT MAKE ITS WAY ONTO YOUTUBE?!!
HA...
*MORE NEWS HERE WHEN I CAN CONFIRM THE DETAILS
BETTER START REHEARSING NOW...
RSX
PS - THE 2ND HOUR (?ENCORE?!!) WILL LIKELY BE A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE... AND MAYBE VH1 CLASSIC MIGHT SHOW IT IF WE DONT PLAY ANY B-SIDES?!!
ONWARDS...
Fuck VH1, play some b-sides!!!
Fuck VH1, play some b-sides!!!
ReplyDeleteI second that!!!
53 min. + compressed into 13 Songs, that will be aired entirely on MTV??? Sounds like a Pop album to me. 1 UTS followed by 12 Only Ones... well... could be worse... there could be no UTS at all. Still haaaaaaaaaaaaaappy... ;)
ReplyDeleteneed some tip on good/cheap pelace to stay in rome. anayone can help???
ReplyDeleteTOO MUCH INFO TOO FAST
ReplyDeleteHot damn they better do more shows
moraes, sleep at the base of the spanish steps. it's free and you're within walking distance...just watch out for the polize.
ReplyDelete"WE WERENT INTENDING PLAYING AGAIN FOR A WHILE" Sigh.
ReplyDeleteyou didn't seriously think there'd be a 2009 "dark album" tour, did you jpx?
ReplyDeleteNo, MB, but at least I could fantasize, now the dream is ruined. I'm thinking the next tour will be 2012.
ReplyDeleteForget the police, watch out for the gypsies! My friends were there in March and got their passports and cash taken by them!
ReplyDeleteI think this Rome thing is pretty cool, once it hits youtube we can all get an early listen to the new songs. I'd still rather hear the studio version first but this beggar won't be choosey!
Jerry
B-sides?? C'mon 2 Late!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd This Twilight Garden, and Chain of Flowers, and A Few Hours After This, and New Day, and This Morning, and.... : )
ReplyDelete"A Few Hours After This" would be really cool, as it is my favorite b-side!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHeroin Face??? I dare you to listen to it all the way through without wanting to leap from a tall building.
ReplyDeleteJPX: Exactly. Horrible song. If they ever played it in concert, I'd go get a beer. And I don't even drink! : P
ReplyDeleteHa! I don't normally leave a show to go to the bathroom, but Heroin Face screams, "Pee break!"
ReplyDelete...and Canada will get the youtube.com shitty, compressed version? lol
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome news though!!! Exciting for Italian fans and European fans too!!! I hope it does make it to a station in the US AND Canada!!!
wooohoooo!!!!!! im glad it will air in the U.S.! RSX hasnt forgotten us :)
ReplyDeleteHell Yes!
ReplyDeleteAgain, very nice to see RSx is giving us fast explanations.
ReplyDelete:)
I like his idea.
But, this isn`t fair, at this point looks like LatAm is out of the schedule for the MTV airings of this show...
C`mon, WE DESERVE TO SEE THE SHOW TOO !!!!
:(
...i was looking forward to hearing the new songs for the first time from the album - not an edited taped version for TV.
ReplyDeleteMaybe i'll just watch UTS go walk the dog, and come back just in time for Baby Rag Doll Book :) :) :)
For those of you that can make the show... WOW!!! what a great show - you'll have big time bragging rights :)
You know what else we deserve? Charlotte in HD!!!! Mr. RSX....I'm begging here.
ReplyDeletemmm.... I don't feel so ripped off now. It's unlikely any of us will see it in top quality before the album launch.
ReplyDeleteApart from that, there is part of me that thinks she will wait until the album anyway. I really want to hear the studio versions NOW
Even though it hurts to hear RS say they weren't intending on playign for awhile, i am thinkign that the live performance will reinvigorate those 50 year (almost) asses!!
ReplyDeleteI got cut off before...
ReplyDeletereinvigorate those heinys into getting a new tour going! C'mon lads!
Oh I do doubt most of us will see this on MTV before the album comes out. We’ll be watching it on youtube way before MTV US decides to air it. But really I want to hear the new album on its own before seeing any videos of the live show. Still if it does come on, I won’t miss it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Robert should play the b-sides for the encore. Just go for it, all B-sides would be awesome!!! I love the hits too but why cater to VH-1 or MTV, play something you rarely do.
As for the “WE WERENT INTENDING PLAYING AGAIN FOR A WHILE” quote, it makes me think it will be quite a while before The Cure plays again. Most likely there won’t be another tour till 2010 or 2011 or 2012 and not 2009!
why oh why am i not independently wealthy?
ReplyDeletethese are the questions that plague me during cure times.
I hear ya, Sofia!
ReplyDeleteesque sa vas être diponible au Canada ?
ReplyDeleteFor the Icanhascheezburger fans---
ReplyDeleteROBERT: TOTALLY LOOKS LIKE
CK - It should be Edward Scissorhands lookstotallylike Robert Smith

but please don't forget
HALO & 2LATE........pleaseeeeee
thank you robert......
i really don't understand the whole 'not playing for a while' comment. i mean, they never really toured this new album, unless you count just playing the singles and occasionally the opening and closing tracks. if this album is as good as robert hints that it is, then its a real disappointment not to have a proper tour.
ReplyDeleteeven if they tour next year for their 30th anniversary (this in doubt, now, too?), i'm afraid it would be too much a retrospective tour rather than showcasing the new album.
(sigh, i wish i hadn't gotten sick and missed them in chicago. really thought i still had a chance of seeing them this year or next.)
luucky roman cure fans. isnt this the second time they played coke fest?
ReplyDeletebtw craig, i like the new profile pic. it suits you. ;)
jpx, craig: DONT YOU DARE DIS HEROIN FACE
ReplyDelete>:-[
as for a tour: CK, dont say that!!! 2011? 2012??? NO NO NO NO NO
they gotta at least do promo stuff!!!!!
RSXXXXXXXXXXXX???
"WE WERENT INTENDING PLAYING AGAIN FOR A WHILE"
ReplyDeleteYeah, that kind of stings a little actually.... dare I say hurts?
However, given Robert's, shall we say "unique" concept of time, who knows how long "a while" really is?
Yes robert, if i have anything to do with it i shall upload it to youtube!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for the 2025 old bloke tour....and you know we will all still be on here
ReplyDelete2025? *checks calendar* Oh, I'm free that whole year. Who knows, I might even have some money by then...
ReplyDeleteFuck VH1 with an axe!!
ReplyDeleteThe following set-list would be
totally insane:
DO THE HANSA
SPLINTERED IN HER HEAD
NEW DAY
THE EXPLODING BOY
A JAPANESE DREAM
HEY YOU!!!
HAROLD AND JOE
THIS TWILIGHT GARDEN
THE BIG HAND
IT USED TO BE ME
A PINK DREAM
LOVE WILL TEAR US APART
Regarding the "we hadnt planned to play again for a while" comment.....This to me reads they hadnt planned to play again this year i.e. do any shows around the album release or after the album release this year to promote it.
ReplyDeleteI will be astonished however if there were no shows next spring/summer to promote this album.
Live music is where the money is these days, not in record sales...so if they want to capitalise on this new album and all the promo that MTV seem to giving them, they have to do some shows to promote it...leaving it till 2010 would be madness
The Exploding Boy, 2 Late, Halo, Breath, To The Sky, Ocean, Sugar Girl, This Twilight Garden, A Chain of Flowers, The Big Hand, Harold and Joe, Lament
ReplyDeleteThat would be a fucking awesome b-side set list. (or at least my favs ;p )
the LA band Sparks played all twenty one of their albums, in order over a month in London, playing B-sides and demos as period relevant encores.
ReplyDeleteThe Cure are probably the only other band I would see doing that. As long as it took place somewhere within feesable distance from me.
There's an idea for you, Robert - now you're thirteen albums in you should play a thirteen night residency somewhere.
Is this going to be aired before the album is actually released? If so I'm not going to tune in...Don't want to spoil it.
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine a better way to hear a whole new Cure album than have the band themselves play it to you though.
want to go to rome !!!
ReplyDeleteSmall update at the official site, MTV EMA icon on top and invitation to vote.
ReplyDeleteo_q
j'espère que sa va être difusser a much music?
ReplyDelete*sigh* I WANNA GO!!!
ReplyDeleteEuropean MTV? What about us Aussies? *sob*
ReplyDeleteLooks like it'll be flamin' youtube for us then...
and you lucky, lucky peeps in Rome...
as far as them touring...hmm, well, it's Roberts' 50th.next year, 30 year anniversary, new album, kinda adds up to a good reason to hit the road again... especially with people so excited about the new album; OOo just had a flash; maybe that's what he's waiting for? To see how the new album is received by the fans?
2009 can't come fast enough. RSX, lemme know as soon as possible so i can start saving up the moolah.
ReplyDeletealso, the cure is cordially invited to play my living room.
OR IS THAT LOVING ROOM?
2late
ReplyDeletethe big hand
