Thanks to Marco for his dogged determination to fight through phone & connection problems to send the setlist, and to Perfect.Murder, David Fargier, and @anedonia74 for their reports and help.
02:21 - Perfect.Murder: Beautiful Same Deep Water....Great light, amazing sound from where I'm standing. 15 rows down in front of Reeves.
01:33 - Perfect.Murder: Primary gets better and better and so does The Walk. Have I mentioned Jason's drumming? HUGE!
23:52 - Robert takes the stage to explain, in Spanish, that there's a tech problem with the keyboards. Give them 2 minutes. Sort of shrugs, stretches out his arms, walks off. That was too funny!
23:37 - @anedonia74: Techs have been fiddling with keyboards for a few minutes now. Maybe some problem?
23:32 - Perfect.Murder: Some delay, don't know why.
22:58 - @anedonia74: Cure gear being brought on stage - technicians busy as bees
22:36 - Perfect.Murder made it to the show with 45 minutes to spare. His plane didn't land until 21:20, so he was cutting it very close! Glad he made it there in time!
19:21 - @anedonia74: main stage
There's supposed to be a webcast, though this says they are still waiting for confirmation for broadcast rights from The Cure. Keep an eye on this page for updates, and I will update here as soon we have confirmation either way. If there is a live stream, it looks like it will be on this page.
Update: The Cure will be webcast tonight! Straight from Roger: "Yes the first hour is approved!"
The Cure are scheduled to play another 3 hour show tonight, from 23:15 - 02:15. In the US, that's a start time of 5:15 PM eastern, 4:15 PM central, 3:15 PM mountain, and 2:15 PM pacific.
The Gift are a portuguese band from a friend of mine. Big Cure fan. They play in a few hours at Bilbao BBK and there will be a webcast so... if you have the time and will, check them out. :)ReplyDelete
Remember when Robert used to say just "Q"? :)ReplyDelete
I hope it is broadcast and they perform Just One Kiss...'twould be awesome to have a soundboard recording of that oneReplyDelete
I hope too !Delete
what's the problem , i have no sound on le the livestream ?ReplyDelete
damn, one hour as usual, They should open with Just One Kiss...ReplyDelete
No sound as well. Hopefully it will come on ;o(ReplyDelete
And we have sound. Nice to hear the guitar riff of Burn bursting out all of a sudden.ReplyDelete
But now that's all we get, haha.Delete
Indeed. One time would've been enough. :/Delete
Yeah, it was awesome the first time around!Delete
just listen BURNReplyDelete
dawn the sound is crapReplyDelete
I'm feeling dizzy. Let's go!ReplyDelete
Seriously. I'm only allowing myself this one hour break, then I have to get back to real life and responsibility.Delete
Well, the Burn advert has become interesting again. One of those things where it's cool, gets old, then becomes so old that it's cool again.ReplyDelete
Has anyone kept count how many Burns we've had?ReplyDelete
If I had to guess, it'd be 30-40.Delete
I feel like I just got burned.Delete
No, but it's at least 10 too many(That is some thing I never thought I'd say about Burn...). I don't know if you saw it, but before the commercials without sound they played it on repeat too for about a minuteDelete
I used to really like that song.. :)Delete
Will this concert ever start??? O_oReplyDelete
Checking in for the live thread & webcast, anxiously awaiting....ReplyDelete
I can kind of hear an audience cheering, but I see a car commercial!ReplyDelete
Dun dun dunnnnn.....ReplyDelete
I hope this Livestream knows that we have 30 minutes delay now already... not that we get only 30 minutes or less :pReplyDelete
I see a stage...ReplyDelete
here we go!ReplyDelete
didnt they bring backup cords?ReplyDelete
bad night or not?ReplyDelete
Ha anyone gotten the player to work on an iPad? Robert!!ReplyDelete
Robert speaks EspanolReplyDelete
Time for more ads!!ReplyDelete
We went to The Cure's hotel and met Jason, took a few pictures with him, kind as usual. Saw Roger and Reeves too but a bit in a rush. Robert and Simon arrived at about 9:30 pm and jumped in their rooms. Went dowstairs half an hour later but hadn't time enough to let us take pictures with them. Attived at the venue, over packed by noisy crowd. A problem with keyboards avoid the gig start on time. Mo more battery but will review the concert tomorrow. So much to have crossed half Europe for 3 gigs in a week. Antoinette, Nico, Gilles and Christophe join me to send big Cure kisses to the whole fans in the world. So happy to share this special moment with you, guys. Craig, we love u and thank u so much for letting us post the information through the best Cure fansite ever ! An announcement right now. Robert on stage ! "Un technical problema. Dos minutos !"ReplyDelete
Thank you, David. You are all too kind. I love all of my European friends, and hope that one day before The Cure ends, I'll actually make it over there to celebrate a show with all of you. Seeing The Cure in Europe is the only real way to see them. :)Delete
how many minutes?ReplyDelete
2 I think :)Delete
or perhaps 12, it seems...Delete
Dos, people. The man said Dos! :)Delete
Aww, that was sweet :) And yay! 2 min to go :DReplyDelete
Robert needs a brush up on his Catalan! ;-)ReplyDelete
Technical difficulties... with what? Power? I didn't understand.ReplyDelete
I saw Robert but I didn't have my sound on :/ReplyDelete
Technical problem with keyboardsReplyDelete
webcast for an hour! hope we could see one song!!!!ReplyDelete
40 minutes delay... reminds me of Belfort. Hope they still get 3 hours!ReplyDelete
i miss the burn ad...ReplyDelete
Because shaky words in commercials make them more interesting. Heh.ReplyDelete
Roger use Windows 98ReplyDelete
Just Robert and an acoustic!ReplyDelete
Is anyone else hearing a delay?ReplyDelete
HOW FREAKING AWESOME!ReplyDelete
Three Imaginary Boys!ReplyDelete
Robert is beyond gracious.ReplyDelete
Robert on stage singing '3IB' !!!ReplyDelete
HOLY CRAP! I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO HEAR ROBERT SOLO LIVE!!!ReplyDelete
Best thing I have ever seen in my life.ReplyDelete
And he's not done yet!ReplyDelete
Don't applaud too loudly, or you'll give me ideas!ReplyDelete
best cure show ever!!ReplyDelete
Acoustic Robert while they figure things out? That's simply awesome. Clearly the Cure just fucking gets it. Roger get out there with a melodica!!!ReplyDelete
This is all too much!ReplyDelete
Now 'FIC' still alone ! Crownd quite supportive. Lovely him.ReplyDelete
I bet Eric would have something to say about this...ReplyDelete
i thought for a second he was going to play out of this world... anything from bloodflowers would be amazing!ReplyDelete
Best webcast... EVER!ReplyDelete
See, it's been quite a long time since I've busked.ReplyDelete
He sounds a bit nervous! hahaha..ReplyDelete
He was a little more confident teh last time he did this. (LA 1996)
Wow. I'm stunned speechless!!ReplyDelete
'BDC' with crowd singing along. A kind of unexpected dream, this accoustic set with 40,000 people into it like hell !!!ReplyDelete
Loving this version of Boys Don't Cry!ReplyDelete
What a beautiful, beautiful manReplyDelete
That was beautifulReplyDelete
I think I have to get the rest of the group with me... hang on.ReplyDelete
Man that was cooler than the other side of the pillow!ReplyDelete
That's why it's The Cure, and not Robert Smith.ReplyDelete
Simon should do a solo set tooReplyDelete
WOW. That was fucking amazing.ReplyDelete
awesome webcast !ReplyDelete
That would be a Tape.ReplyDelete
I really hope that someone recorded that!ReplyDelete
i would like a high quality recording of this version of tape... like they did on sideshowReplyDelete
I hope we get a full hour!ReplyDelete
That beer looks like orange juice.ReplyDelete
simply elegant, Mr.Smith :))ReplyDelete
He'll NEVER let us go!
(what a great version of High)
loved the jump to the mic! he sounds really good tonight!ReplyDelete
I will always love the cureReplyDelete
Sleep when i´m dead:)ReplyDelete
that's so sweet of Robert!ReplyDelete
uh oh. soldier on RobertReplyDelete
uhhhh... has someone had a bit much to drink?ReplyDelete
Oh no, looks like Roger's keyboards are acting up again.ReplyDelete
Noticed he was just playing the bottom keyboard - isn't he usually on the Top keyboard the most?Delete
Looks like the keys are still working, but is it just me or do the strings on Inbetween Days sound really strange? Did Roger perhaps fall back to his set of built-in keyboard sounds?Delete
This is the crappy sound from the webcast, video is good but sound is very bad like 56k !Delete
sounds to me like he has 1 generic keyboard sound. and is only using the bottom keyboard.Delete
Roger is a Pro though, cause he's making it sound great with what he has!
Ola Bilbao, we need some Lachrima Christi, we need The Blood...ReplyDelete
I can't listen to JLH anymore without the Live ending tacked on! It makes the song!!! :)ReplyDelete
Reeve's is sounding awesome!ReplyDelete
Simon giving Robert a sip of beer - that's a wingman!ReplyDelete
Hey, is that Reeves' guitar I'm hearing up high in the mix? I like!ReplyDelete
I love the work of Reeves on FTEOTDGS...ReplyDelete
I really feel sorry if there's ever another Cure guitarist... how's he going to fill Reeves' shoes??? FtEotDGS is UNREAL now!ReplyDelete
I so have to go to bed right now, but I can't stop listening.ReplyDelete
Reeves is a pro, no doubt.ReplyDelete
BUT! I sometimes wish he would truly unleash it....just do it dude!Delete
FTEOTDGS is turning out awesome this tour...better each time.ReplyDelete
Reeves is good but Porl is better on FTEOTDGS specially in on Wish Tour.ReplyDelete
Sorry but I have to disagree. One thing I think Reeves brings to the band that is such a nice addition is a little bit of a rock edge. He had such a nice little solo during this song that really stood out compared to Porl. Don't get me wrong, I really like Porl, but Reeves is a great addition to the cure's sound.Delete
I think there were many times when Porl just rocked it. However, and this is not necessarily a criticism, but during the 4Tour he just seemed to go 'off the grid' with it. It's been fun seeing Reeves making it his own.Delete
Oh yes, Want is so great this tour.ReplyDelete
Rev is fast with the video! :)ReplyDelete
I am not seeing many comments, I guess everyone is just mesmerized. :)ReplyDelete
I'm kind of trying to work at the same time too. :/Delete
End of stream. Too bad. Then again, I really ought to go to sleep now.ReplyDelete
Back to work. Heavy sigh.ReplyDelete
Thanks Kate, you too have a good day/night/whatever wherever you are. Same goes for everyone else here by the way. See you all! ;)ReplyDelete
See you again...Delete
Wow...with all the "problemas technicas" that was one of a kind show. I think they were finally warming up....too bad the live feed cut after Caterpillar! Really loved Want!ReplyDelete
Seems the stream started up again right at the end of The Walk, and then stopped again at the beginning of Primary. UghReplyDelete
dang it wish they kept it goingReplyDelete
It's not like there is anything else going on in the world...right?!?!? :)Delete
Play for Today, ratherReplyDelete
I hope they'll have some technical problems on saturday also... ;). Good night every one!ReplyDelete
Like a black out :)Delete
Yes, the blood!!!ReplyDelete
I think it's so fucking cool that they play The Blood when they're in Spain.ReplyDelete
this is my favorite setlist of the tour so far just because of robert's acoustic set!ReplyDelete
Acoustic Robert, just WOW! <3ReplyDelete
Acoustic Robert, just WOW! <3ReplyDelete

Some notes from @anedonia74ReplyDelete
"Hi Craig, sorry for the blackout of updates. Cell signal was bad. Good gig, tight performance, everyone in good spirits. Roger had further trouble with keyboards and looked frustrated. Robert ended BDC with a broken string ... "a sign from heaven"."
"Overall a great/surreal gig. May I just say this line up sounds too good & tight to break it up after the summer?! Good nite"Delete
porl is the best! reeves is only the guitar player of david bowie that it ! noting to do with the cure ! is good only for the summer i wish is dont come back after thr summer!!!ReplyDelete
I guess it's getting a bit boring all this mourning about Porl/Pearl, seriously. He's in a different vibe, the band is in a different vibe (and better than I've seen in a while), and Reeves isn't any amateur playing wrong chords and out of tempo. Robert has proven today that he doesn't need a guitar player (just in case there aren't any available after he uses them all, though). But "that's why it's The Cure, not Robert Smith". And the 2012 Cure doesn't have Porl. Stop the whining and enjoy what we have - brilliant and professional musicians.ReplyDelete
Well Said Mr Mandelbrot I loved Porl But he is now in the past I have been lucky enough to get to 3 shows so r & all have been great Robert has been in great voice & spirits & there is an excellent vibe going through the Band undoubtedly Reeves is a top notch guitarist but I hope he dosent start show boating too much.you are right they are brilliant & professional musicians . well to me they are best band known to humanityReplyDelete
I'm really loving this Cure lineup. I wasn't sure about RG at first and think he had some teething troubles early with slightly OTT soloing and effects choices. But he has shown a commendable humility in improving his "wingman" role to the point where I think this band could well rival the 1995-2004 lineup (and for me definitely surpasses the 4Cure; even though the two concerts I attended were great fun, I think a 5-piece Cure is ideal).ReplyDelete
Anyway, endlessly bemoaning the absence of Porl Thompson over the internet is so boring and pointless I don't even know why you would. Especially after he released that gracious statement and is obviously happy and comfortable with his choice.
attendace37.000 big number in this tourReplyDelete
Review from David Fargier:ReplyDelete
Some smart friends of mine, Gilles and Nico, wandered the 5 stars hotels in Bilbao in the morning to figure out where The Cure could be and easily found the place they were staying at. About 15 fans from Belgium, Italy, Australia, Spain and France gathered there trying to be as discreet as possible (not succeeded in fact !).
At about 7:30-8 pm, Jason showed up and kindly allowed us to take pictures with him and signed a few autographs. Reeves and Roger went downstairs a bit later on but seemed to be in a rush to reach the festival venue. So we couldn't talk to them before they took a van with Jason.
Simon and Robert arrived at the hotel very late, rushed into they hotel, Robert saying they didn't have any time. They went out half an hour later and jumped into a car. We took 2 taxis to go to the little hill above Bilbao, with a beautiful view upon the city's lights.
The venue was incredibly packed and we had to pass behind the whole crowd to get to the right side of the main stage in the somehow 20th row. We quickly noticed that the crew where a bit late even if Jason had told us they would go on stage at 11:30 pm. We saw that Roger's roadie and some festival technicians were trying to fix a problem with keyboards. I first thought it was the pedal but it was more serious and even fixed, Roger sounded a bit strange from time to time and had to unplugged something under his keyboards during the show. We think it may have forced the boys to delete 'Trust' from the scheduled set list.
Robert came on stage, a first time to say they had 'un technical problema, dos minutos', then came back with his acoustic guitar to play a few songs during the fixing. We were totally out of breath and didn't believe what was happening. He made a mini set with 'Three Imaginary Boys', 'Fire In Cairo' and an astonishing slow bluesy version of 'BDC'. Thank to this problem, we got something that will become a mythical moment in Cure history.
The show started about 50 minutes late (excluding the acoustic set) with a great powerful version of 'Open' (instead of 'Plainsong' already chosen in Barcelona). The beginning of the main set was really intense and the crowd responded well. 'A Forest' started with an under tone keyboard that made Robert laugh, talking about a "goth version of 'A Forest". Then it started to get colder and colder and the public was a bit frozen to react as much as they did initially. The boys had some more difficulties to keep the same energy for a few titles but enthusiasm came back a bit with 'Wrong Number' (Robert shouting 'allo' to provoke the audience), 'One Hundred Years' with once again a little change in the lyrics during the first verse' and a booming 'End', the best live version I've heard.
Everyone got into it with the encores. People singing and dancing on singles and ending with a thundering ovation at the end of the show, Robert finished it doing the clown as he'd broken a chord, once again on this tour.
The light show and the imagines on the screens were the best I saw in Summer Cure. My five stars go to 'Boys Don't Cry' 1, 'Open', 'High', 'The End Of The World','Want', The Walk', 'A Forest', 'Primary' 'End', 'The Same Deep Water As You', 'The Blood','Why Can't I Be You?', 'Boys Don't Cry' 2.
As almost each date this tour -I didn't attend all shows but reading the reviews makes me think it's obvious- a total 3 hour orgasm.
See you in Nyon !
Review from JC/Perfect.Murder:ReplyDelete
Concert was great. Obviously the delay put Robert in the mood and there's no need to go over his acoustic set... Just awesome. His guitar playing is fantastic....Strange start of A Forest prompted RS to introduce it as the "Mastodon" version... The opening key notes were lower than on Cold!!!
Again my favs were Doing the Unstuck, The Walk, Primary and Sleep When I'm Dead...So glad i traveled over to meet my friends... They met RS. and SG at the airport as they were heading to Portugal this morning at 12.
Overcrowded in the pit and hardly any security.... Probably still stoned from the whiffs of spliffs going around.
