'The Cure In Orange' screenings

There was another screening of the 35mm print of 'The Cure In Orange' tonight. It was at 92YTribeca in NYC.
As previously reported, it was also screened twice at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in Austin, TX on May 30th & June 6th. So you might want to check your local indie theatre listings, just in case it's making the rounds, and plays near you. If you see it listed, or know who's distributing it, please let me know. Thanks!

  1. someone help me out if you don't mind? i've done my "googling" about and can't seem to figure out why TCIO is so hard to get a hold of and why Pope isn't releasing it on DVD.

i don't know much (if anything) about movies and how they are released. is this screening maybe a precursor to a release? sorry if i seem like a doof. i think that's what screenings are for.

can we just drive to his house and beg him for it? ;)

  2. Well Robert said it would be out on DVD last year, but that didn't happen, so who knows what the hold up is.

Maybe they wanted to remaster it, instead of just throwing out a sub-par transfer, and the result of that is what we are seeing with these screenings. But that is simply a guess.

Maybe they can't find anyone who wants to release it? Maybe it will be released with Reflections? Maybe there's a problem with who owns the rights to it?

Only one person can tell us, and he hasn't said anything lately about any more releases.

There have been so many things talked about over the last few years, but none of it has come out. It's frustrating, but hopefully it's just delayed, and all of it will get released some day.

  5. Saw the version at the Alamo Draft House in Austin on June 6th. Before the show the owner of the theater said they were able to obtain a copy of the 35MM show for $250. He also said they would show In Orange once a year. He never mentioned passing it along to other theaters but if it is hard to find in this format they may very well be doing so to help out.

Just a side note, the film was beautiful to see on the big screen. Of course there was a few little glitches due to the age of the film but overall the sound and picture quality was gorgeous. If you are in NYC I would recommend checking this out. It was a wonderful experience.

  10. @ad: I have the LD too, and like you, my player isn't working at the moment.

Speaking of the laserdisc: The version of "In Orange" on LD is missing "Sweet Talking Guy" during the end credits. Is the music intact on these recent screenings?

  12. "sweet talking guy" is also missing on the VCD, i prefer the mix on the VCD better than the VHS as well, doesn't have that 80's reverby sound to it...more like a raw mix

  13. Thanks, PC! I think I might need to put the Prytania Theatre in touch with the folks over at the Drafthouse. Wishful thinking that we would actually get it, but you never know. Worth a shot I would think.

I'm also the proud owner of In Orange on Laserdisc
(also the VHS and VCD versions), along with a bunch of other Cure titles, but like the rest of you, my player is long gone. But boy were those great editions of those titles!
