  2. yes it was:) couple of things i didn't know that were quite intersting and fun, like robert's blindness:)

  3. That was really interesting; I had no idea Robert had dodgy eyesight. Some great pictures too =)

*waits for the update Robert promised*

    I think he's forgotten us =(

  4. there's this disturbing picture where it looks like robert's face is smeared with mud or chocolate.

  5. Andy: I thought that photo was rather disturbing as well!

  6. I think some of the photos are interesting.

  7. V: Photo #28 is much more disturbing!

  8. i have a bootleg of the cure at glastonbury that has the same picture of robert with mud all over his face.

    ReplyDelete
  9. the same bootleg has the cure apparently doing a song called "mink palm." any guesses as to what song it really is?

  10. That's what I was gonna say!

  11. V: The face of evil hovers between Robert and Roger. : )

  12. monkeybutt - the only glastonbury i have is Glastonbury Festival, Glastonbury, England (June 23, 1990)

    which one is yours?

    ReplyDelete
  13. craig & v: you're right! there are also other random song names on there. 'jupiter press' is one, as i recall...

andy: the one i have is from 96.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Craig: I dunno, the mud/chocolate/? smeared face still disturbs me more. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  15. V: You just don't know the brilliant JS. : P

  16. i didnt know someone had ACTUALLY DIED in the Argentina gig,

    ReplyDelete
  17. Craig: Okay, you are right, that is more disturbing. :)

  18. How accurate do you suppose the article is? I'm doubting the blindness one. No one has ever seen Robert wearing glasses, have they? I've definitely not seen any photos of him wearing glasses.

Also, it would have been nice if they paired the photos to the stories better. Would have been more helpful for someone not as familiar with the band.

  19. yeah its interesting..read it before any way...but yeah good for new fans. However Robert has said he will never do an NME interview again. NME must be devastated since the Cure are topping their polls. They have courted Robert since the last LP in 2004 when all the new hip bands were name checking the cure. He says where were the nme when the band needed them most and they didnt deserve to be seen as sad old has been rockers and written off around brit pop. Shame as if he did embrace NME now like Morrissey does the Cure would get a younger following and be big in the uk again....iam sure

  20. cg, you see him wearing sunglases a lot. they could be prescription sunglasses!

  21. I doubt the article a little bit, it says they played in a sell-out in Wembley Stadium, which they have never done as far as I know...unless its their best kept secret.

I don't think they've even ever played in the Stadium, only the arena, A LOT!

  22. Yeah, the mud on the face is from Glastonbury, which became a mudbath for the fans alike, as well as the band, with chunks of mud being thrown on stage.

My favorite little tidbit, the Minnie Mouse experience at Euro Disney with the nieces and nephews. TOo funny, his reaction!

  24. I thought the "Lullaby" bit was funny. It reminded me that my son would always cry when I sang "Never Enough" to him:)

Also I remembered a story about Echo & the Bunnymen. They were in Brazil shooting a video and ended up being searched by police on suspicion of drugs. The officer says "The Cure, huh?", they reply "No".
Ian McCulloch later joked the only reason they went to jail was because they were not The Cure.

  25. LMAO msp!!

ive been looking for high resolution verions of many of those pictures, so glad to see them. and the one tree hill part reminds me of the time my friend forced me to watch two of those episodes (1st season! i know shame shame), and they used same deep water as you and TWIT. course i was shrieking, but she understood completely.

  26. Beau - you're right. I was going to mention it myself. Wembley Stadium (the old) one held almost 90,000 people. Not many bands have sold it out. To put it in perspective: Live Aid had 82,000 people.

The Arena holds about 12,500 according to Wikipedia.

  27. Interesting bits of Cure Trivia and great photos too!!! I like #7! How Hot is Hot???

cpg--I remember reading an old interview or something that Robert did say he couldn't see too well. Sounds like Robert could have nearsightedness. I have it & I can see OK without them with the exception of driving, using the computer & watching TV. So I wouldn't doubt he wears glasses when he's driving or viewing the boob tube.

  28. Hi Cure Kitty- yes, robert last said soemthing about it in a radio interview in 2004 for Coachella. he goes on and on about how people will tell him that folks are "flipping him off" and he loves it because he never sees it. He says that he cannot see past the first three rows at a concert and that he wears glasses to drive.

  29. great little article...and super pics!

  30. The photo of Robert with mud on his face was used on the cover of the NME in June 1995 when The Cure headlined Glastonbury, after The Stone Roses dropped out.

They played 3 sold out nights at Wembley Arena in 1989, not Wembley Stadium. Great gigs they were too.

No, i've never seen Robert wearing glasses either.

  31. in the mint car vid he is in glasses..

    ReplyDelete
  32. i've read somewhere robert saying that at gigs he can't really see past the first few rows. so to him it really doesn't matter wheter they play at huge or small places because he can't see the audience anyways.

  33. Nice to see the NME giving the Boys some press even if half of it is made up of half truths about the band and the other half are Robert's quotes - which can usually be taken with a large does of salt!

Good fun but I agree that the pics and the "facts" don't really match!

    Rob

  34. Those were fun little morsels of info, even if some were not entirely factual! Neat photos too.

lol at The Mighty Boosh mention. I loved the moons stammering rendition of Lovecats!

Speaking of movies with Cure titles, I saw a good Korean movie a few weeks ago called "Inbetween Days".

" 'Pornography', The Cure's bleakest album"
That is until the new "dark album" is unleashed... bwahahaa... :p

  35. I like the picture N ° 19 Robert looks like a ladybird

  36. http://imaginaryboys.altervista.org/english/cure/articles/youasked.htm

Ok so I googled Robert Smith Eyesight, I know I am sad but I did it!

The above takes you to a Q and A session with RSx and there is a statement about Robert's eyesight in it.

This is a very old interview but I suspect the NME read it before me. Quite a few of the 30 are in here!

  37. I think they lifted the tidbits about One Tree Hill, South Park, The Mighty Boosh, etc. directly from the Wikipedia article on The Cure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_cure

    ReplyDelete
  38. awesome !! thanks for the link. some great shots !!

    ReplyDelete
  39. i would be really shocked if Roberts' dad sang frightening bed time songs to him... kinda doesn't match with how the family really is. Couldn't imagine his dad scaring him, especially at night time....
