"NME is currently hosting a Vote for the Greatest Front Person of All Time! You just have to go through their list of all front people to find Robert, while voting for each one along the way on a scale of Worst to Best." (Thanks Darrell)
Update: Here's a short cut. Click here to automatically vote 10 for Robert. (Thanks Brad)
Good picture of him!!
ReplyDeletethey actually have decent nominees!
ReplyDeleteRobert isn't doing too bad at the moment. Hanging around 5/10. Not too shabby considering how many people just put a 1 down for every body but their favourite.
ReplyDeleteMost nominees are at a 3/10.
We all know Lennon ,Mercury or Cobain is going to win it. Maybe Hendrix or Yorke...
robert's cracked the top 20! #19 right now
ReplyDeleteOK - I'll admit it - I put down 1 for everyone except Robert! It took me over an hour but I managed to help get him from 17 to 8!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteian curtis should get it or siouxsie over robert....i think robert would make a great third choice...
ReplyDelete"OK - I'll admit it - I put down 1 for everyone except Robert!"
ReplyDeleteHaha I did the same; except I gave Tom Clarke of The Enemy a 10 as well *name drop alert!* cause he's a friend of mine...
I'd keep voting but I'm convinced Robert is the last one every single time...
I am going to vote, now.
ReplyDeleteTime for me to go to bed - but Robert is now at number 4!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!
#2 now.
ReplyDeletei gave jeff buckley an 8.
OMG, you people are hilarious. Am I the only one who actually rated them according to my tastes? lol
ReplyDeleteOkay, not that any of it truly matters. HOWEVER, some of those bands have not been around very long OR their leader simply have not made the same impact as bands like The Cure, The Doors, Hendrix, etc. I mean come on - Muse? The Strokes? Blur? Those are fine bands, but not nearly as influential or impactful as even AC/DC (Bon Scott). Doesn't matter what you think about AC/DC - fact is, they have had more influence at this point than Muse, et al. So it's really a lopside, incongruent kinda poll.
ReplyDeleteAgain, not that it truly matters - it's a harmless diversion.
I would still vote for RSXXX, of course, but I can't figure out how.
well, apparently a lot of cure fans are voting, because robert's now at # 1.

ReplyDeleteI've been voting the whole day long as often as I could, and i will go on soon putting down a 1 for everyone except Robert and John Lennon as well, cause i didn't had the heart to give HIM a 1, so he got a 2...uhm...btw it is so great fun to put down a 1 for idiots like Bono or the Muse-guy. Please kill me now.
ReplyDeletegeez you guys are good!Hes #1!!!
ReplyDeleteYesterday he wasnt even in the top 20!
cure fans are the best!...
Yep someone was busy today; when I left to go shopping this morning he was at 19, when I came back a couple of hours later he was upto number 4...
ReplyDeleteThey should have really called this poll "Who has the most dedicated fanbase?"
Lol, I voted fairly but after seeing how everyone was giving 1's to all but their fav I played along too.
ReplyDeleteMy mom somehow found a way to get the page of robert and vote 10 in a single link or something. So she did that for nearly an hour XD
Ok just figured it out, make a tab of the "10" button an it will have the link of voting 10 for Robert and keep entering it.
ReplyDeleteI must have voted for over 100 different people. I'm still going & I haven't gotten Robert to show up once and now some of the same people are popping up again! I mostly voted 1's....well I did vote higher for some of my other favorite front peeps. It wouldn't be right to give them crappy votes.
ReplyDeleteBut WTF no Robert yet! Maybe NME doesn't like it that he's currently #1! Thanks to all our sneaky efforts!!!
Finally after 147 votes, Robert came up! And of course I voted 10!!! But I'm still going & he's only came up 2 more times. :( Oh will I've got to spot now, time to go home.
ReplyDeleteI keep getting the picture of that creepy looking dude Pink Eyes from Fucked Up.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!
yeah, is that a real band? i thought maybe they threw their uncle in there just to shake things up...
ReplyDeleteLOL MB! :)
ReplyDeleteThat dude is scary looking. He's the lead singer and likes to go out naked on stage or takes it off at some point of the show. It's like dude put your clothes on. Well whatever floats his boat? LOL!!!
Don't know much about the band beyond they play punk and are from Canada I've heard of them but not their music.
And sorry for me spelling mistakes!
I meant to say "Oh well I've got to stop now, time to go home.
Click here to automatically vote 10 for Bob!
ReplyDeleteThat direct link doesn't seem to work, it shows Robert, and the current vote and score, but the band is always someone else.
ReplyDeleteThe link works. You don't see Robert because you've just voted for him. Check the box on the right. It tells you that you've just voted.
ReplyDeleteIt works.
ReplyDeleteIt casts a vote of "10" for Robert and then goes to the next person.
So all I have to do is get ppl to click on the link and they have voted ten for Robert. Muahaha...
ReplyDeleteHim being at #1 is as real as the new singles hitting #1 in the charts.
ReplyDeleteHe's miles above these Muse-likes and other oddities, but to say that he's the best... not mine at least although I would give him a 10 - for effort. Jagger, Mercury and Rotten are much better.
Right on, now I got you, I was thinking it was from the vote prior, thanks, looks like all the voting is working!
ReplyDeleteOkay folks, have your fun... I believe RS definitely deserves the top spot... but if you give people like Ian Curtis, Freddie Mercury, Marc Bolan, John Lennon, etc 1s to accomplish that, I might just have to slap you.
ReplyDeleteYay Team Cure!!!!! I love ya work!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to Brad for finding the magic link, now my wrist can recover from last night's 3-hour voting session.
Maree,
ReplyDeleteI gave Chris Martin a 1 several times. You can slap me if you want, but I feel secure in my decision.
So I wonder how many MORE votes Robert is going to end up with compared to everyone else?
ReplyDeleteOh well, stuffing the ballot box on an internet poll ain't exactly the perfect crime. :P
*waves wildly to elise*
ReplyDeleteVote Elise best frontwoman!
Come to think of it...where are the WOMENS in that poll? HMMMMMMMM?
my friend voted a lot also, opened multiple tabs. http://i33.tinypic.com/e7chsn.jpg
ReplyDeletecheck out the bottom of his screen with all the NME tabs open. Votes for Robert.
I voted 10 for Robert a few times. I gave John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix an 8. I mean come on! But everyone else got 1. :P
ReplyDeletecat-Siouxsie, Blondie and a few female frontwoman are on the list but there should be more!
ReplyDeleteelise-Great work! You rule!! Now rest your hand for a while, I've been voting for RS quite a bit myself tonight and I'm starting to feel the burn! Robert is still #1 on the list!!!
Brad, I don't have a prob with that, heh.
ReplyDeleteCat... I had a fair number of women come up, including Deborah Harry, Kim Deal, Alice Glass, Courtney Love... of course they amounted to a fraction of the total options, but they are there.
Oh and the picture they have of Robert is just adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteOK I'm having a Fan girl moment right now!!!
cool, maree, i ain't paid much attention to it
ReplyDeleteBrad's link must have helped Robert secure the #1 spot. I've voted for him quite a few times myself, hehe. But I have to say some of the nominees are....confusing. I mean, why would they even BE THERE? But then again...it's NME, so I really shouldn't be surprised I guess.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool. I have no life and can sit here and click on Robert's link for hours!!!!
ReplyDeleteso when is the competition over? when do we declare robert the victor?
ReplyDeleteOMG - It looks like there are some crazy people out there voting for Liam Gallagher - WTF!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere must be more than one person doing it as his votes change after every few refreshes!
This is not good! I am at work now, so cannot focus all my attention to the "Make Robert #1" task - but I will get right on it again when I get home.
Ive just clicked on Brads link about 20 times and Roberts rating of 7.34 hasnt progressed at all. W.T.F. And Liam Gallagher topping the poll. W.T.F TWICE OVER mulitiplied by 1,000,000. I wonder are the brains (if there are any) at NME are onto our tactic?
ReplyDeleteYeah, what's up with that? I've noticed the same thing. I have been repeatedly clicking on Brad's link and Robert's rating is staying the same. Grrrrrrrr
ReplyDeleteI was clicking Brad's link like a crazed loon earlier and still Robert's rating actually managed to DECREASE. I wasn't best plasesd...
ReplyDeleteI've been hammering away at Brads link for ages and Rob's score has increased from 7.56 to 7.83 (still trailing liam wanker on 8.59).However they've sprung me and I can't seeem to get it up any higher, so if a few of you others want to get stuck into it i'm sure pole position can be reclaimed. Anyhow, with the brilliant Elise on the task nothing can prevent Robert from hitting top spot.
ReplyDeleteSwifty - I have been clicking on Brad's link for ages, and it doesn't seem to be having any effect :(
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions? Do you just hit refresh on the page, or keep coming back to CoF to select the link again?

ReplyDeleteon the NME site you can also vote The Cure for theGREATEST ROCK N ROLL BAND EVER
ReplyDeleteClick here to cast a vote of 1 for Liam Gallagher. :P
ReplyDeleteIf you feel like getting The Cure into the Top 20 "Best Rock n Roll Bands at all Time" list on the NME website, vote here!
ReplyDeleteVote The Cure
That link works just like the one posted for the Best Front Person. Keep clicking that link to vote 10 for The Cure!
ReplyDeleteI'm not convinced that clicking the link does anything!
ReplyDeleteElise, I thought the same thing so I did a little test. Ah my job as a software tester finally does some good for Thr Cure.
ReplyDeleteI changed the link I made so that it would vote 9 for The Cure just to see if it would change the # count & it did, it went slightly lower. Then I changed it back to 10 & the count went slightly higher.
So I think the links do work, I kept using the link for RS last night & his vote count did get higher, I could see the numbers changing. There must be some Oasis fans out there doing the same thing to get Liam Gallagher up to #1. So vote some more for RS!
CK - I'm still not convinced :(
ReplyDeleteDo you use the refresh button on the link or go back and forth between CoF & NME?
Just spent ages voting 50 times 1 for dickhead Gallagher & 50 times 10 for Bob. Made absolutely no changes to the poll scores. Me thinks someone at NME is doing a Homer on the job. Cant fucking believe that Oasis are 1 in the top rock band of all time. W.T.F.
ReplyDeleteElise - It was working well for me earlier and every second or third vote would increase Rob's score by .01 (back and forward/not refresh). However its not happening anymore god damnit. The scores are fairly close now so hopefully new people can vote and catch up. Come on troops, Liam wanker is a tool.
ReplyDeleteSwifty - Thanks! I have been trying to boost the score since I got home from work, but have had little (or no) impact.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing both the Robert x10 and Liam x1 links.
I'll keep going.
You know elsie, I swear last night it seemed to be working. Well it looked like it was but now it doesn't. The vote count doesn't get any higher no matter how much I vote. Actually it’s gotten a little lower.
ReplyDeleteAnd last night I was voting both ways that you mentioned. Maybe sam is right NME caught on to what was happening or maybe the links never worked at all. When I saw the #'s change it must have been a coincidence?
And now if I vote the regular way, Robert hardly comes up nor does The Cure on the Best Bands List. It's a conspiracy by the Oasis Fans I say! I mean come on Liam Gallagher. I could see John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and few others beat out Robert for #1 but Laim???? No way! I never like Oasis, a bunch of pusses!
Well I really can’t go on anymore, too much work to do right now! Almost bedtime for you, have a good night! :)
CK - That's it!!!! I quit!!! I have been going for what seems like forever, and have not been able to make a dent at all!
ReplyDeleteI agree totally, it seems like the more I voted FOR Robert, the lower his score went - but if I voted 1 for Liam Gallagher it didn't seem to have any impact at all.
CONSPIRACY THEORY!!! Bloody NME have rigged the poll against The Cure! Bastards!
Perhaps one enthusiastic Oasis fan used an auto-refresher to stuff the ballot box, NME caught on and changed their setup to ignore votes coming from the same IP or somesuch. In any case, this is one of the many reasons that internet polls are utterly meaningless. Heh.
ReplyDeleteyes this is all terrible and awful...but where is marc bolan?
ReplyDeleteliam gallagher is a knob gobbler.
Marc's dead, baby.
ReplyDeleteMarc's dead.
Of course RSX isn't considered a "real" frontman because he is the antithesis of what people consider to be a rock star type. Sure, he has rock star qualities, but he will never be considered the ultimate showman... and that's why we love him deeply and dearly. That's also why the masses don't embrace him very heartily.
ReplyDeleteI love his shy, endearing, nuanced performances. :-)
Bring on another motherfuckin' tour RSX!
Sofia said "Knob gobbler" and I just spit up my drink all over my desk! hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteNME always seem to have a fascination with 2nd rate pub bands.
ReplyDeleteim sure limp gallagher will win and the result will be used in promoting the new "status quo" sorry i mean oasis cd.
i dont hate oasis but they are a bit simple; a noisy version of coldplay.
you know who's way more exciting than oasis? the six million dollar man. he's way more exciting.
ReplyDeletedon't dis the 6 million dollar dude. i was in love with him.
ReplyDeletewhere in my post do you see any sort of "dis"? i'm noting that he's more exciting than oasis. not hard, admittedly, but still...
ReplyDelete""Make Robert #1" task"- lolololol.
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing is hilariously insane and proves just how obsessive and deranged Cure fans really are... XD
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I'll be happy if Robert gets the top 10, or even 5, but there's no way he should beat out Lennon or Hendrix, I mean really. Thanks to whoever made those links, my right hand was killing me! 8p
helsa, you got dat right. cure fans are dorks personified.
ReplyDeleteAnd HERE you can vote for best band ever...and The Cure needs our help!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nme.com/index.php?class=rate&ratename=greatestbandever&action=rate&rating=1&id=56
now gallagher is tied up with robert, both with 8.00 but the oasis dude is still on first, and robert´s score doesnt seem to get any higher :(
ReplyDeleteRobert is now at first place, and oasis dude is at second, his score was slightly lowered:)
ReplyDeleteWe're back at #1... But Noel usually makes a comeback during the night in Europe...
ReplyDeleteDoes this poll have a deadline?
Will this go on forever? I don't see any indication of "you have 47h left to vote"...
and to bitch slap Oasis in the band voting...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nme.com/index.php?class=rate&ratename=greatestbandever&action=rate&rating=1&id=79
OMG Team Cure rocks!!!!
ReplyDeleteI spent all night last night voting and managed to get Robert to within 0.01 of Liam.
I have just rolled out of bed to find Robert is now kicking the Knob Gobbler's ass.
Cure Fans are the best!
It looks like there isn't an end date on this thing. Maybe it is just going to continue as an interactive feature?????
ReplyDeleteYay! RS is back on top and lots of points ahead of the wanker. My puter keeps crashing when I vote over and over so that's been pissing me off. Back to it...
ReplyDeletelooks like we need more work on all time band rather then front man. 16th place right now. we have some catching up to do...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nme.com/index.php?class=rate&ratename=greatestbandever&action=rate&rating=10&id=12
SCORES UPDATE!!!
ReplyDeleteROBERT SMITH 8.54
LIAM WANKER 7.30
The proper order of things has been restored.
Nice try Knob Gobbler fans (recalcitrants).
Swifty - it's amazing the power of a united Cure fanbase!
ReplyDeleteAnd, now I am working on "Greatest Rock n Roll Band Ever"
Elise Oi Elise Oi
ReplyDeleteElise Elise Elise Oi Oi Oi
Aussie Cure Fan is the best... in my humble opinion.
Shucks, thanks Swifty - I'm giving it my best shot.
ReplyDeleteRobert posted a bulletin on Myspace last night with the link for this poll. Since he did, his score has soared past Liam.
ReplyDeleteI love this man. I love that he used Myspace as a valuable resource. Not every fan checks thecure.com or COF, but there are ALOT of fans on myspace.
ROBERT SMITH IS #1!
Robert is #1 of course what do you expect he blows all the other nominees away! There are other nominees that I think are great but there is no one like ROBERT! I LOVE YOU ROBERT!
ReplyDeleteClicky link to vote the Cure as #1 band
ReplyDelete*click*
Oasis #1? Over the Beatles et al? Disgraceful!
Robert back in second behind Liam Gallagher of Oasis.
ReplyDeleteIf you think Liam Gallagher is (1) worst then vote:
http://www.nme.com/index.php?class=rate&ratename=greatestfrontperson&action=rate&rating=1&id=12
I think I am just about voted out. If some lunatic Oasis fans want the Knob Gobbler to win sooooo much - then let them have it.
ReplyDeleteOur boys are nominees for MTV Headliner of the Year - I don't see Oasis anywhere on that list!!!
Suck on that, Knob Gobbler!
ay carumba!! had an op to fix the old carpal tunnel a little while ago,me thinks I have undone the surgeons' good work!! * clickety clickety clickety*
ReplyDeletecoming 2nd. to the KG is just not right though, is it? ah well, MTV Headliner, here we come!!
Back at number 1!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah!! He is!! Go Cure fans!! Didn't think it was making a difference clicking away, but he was second last time I looked, and now he's on top! woohoo! Take THAT knob gobbler and your knob gobbling fans! :)
ReplyDelete
