From Ticketmaster (Thanks Erin):

ARRIVE EARLY TO AVOID MISSING ANY OF THE SHOW!

The venue parking lots will open at 4:00 PM. Gates will open at 6:30 PM. The show will begin promptly at 7:30 PM.

LAWN TICKET HOLDERS:

Lawn Chairs will not be permitted for this show, a small personal sized blanket or towel (1 per person) will be allowed.

We are expecting a capacity crowd for The Cure at Sleep Train Amphitheatre this Friday night. Traffic on all freeways southbound towards the Amphitheatre, especially I-805 and Auto Park Drive leading to Sleep Train Amphitheatre, will be quite heavy mid-afternoon and evening.

Given the very large fan turnout expected, venue officials strongly urge fans to take note of the following information: Fans are strongly encouraged to arrive at venue early to help avoid traffic delays.

If traffic is backed up at the Telegraph Canyon Rd or Olympic exits:
Stay to the left until you get close to the Main Street/Auto Park Dr. exit.

If traffic is backed up at the Auto Park Dr. exit:
Drive past the Auto Park Dr. Exit and exit at Palm Ave. (one exit south). Turn left and cross over the freeway, then turn left again on to the I-805 North. Then exit at Auto Park Drive

Anyone concerned about the Charlotte show? Was thinking about flying in for it after my NYC shows on the way back to Phoenix... Maybe they will do what Duran Duran did and donate proceeds to LGBT causes.

  7. San Diego is my home town, so it's kind of double nostalgia. Killer seat in the 3rd row too.

  8. Chula Vista is probably the closest to Mexico they are playing this time around. Would be nice to hear "The Blood" for that Latin feel.

  12. Wrong Number after Burn? I dont't think it fits...

  13. So is San Diego a hardcore fan town or not? Clearly this set list decides it. Looks pretty hardcore to me. Those Houston fans suck for having to listen to those tracks. Robert probably wishes he never wrote those songs

    ReplyDelete

    1. Nah, I think Robert wishes that fans would stop moaning and groaning and be happy with all that they have aready given us ! Not to mention The Cure concerts are 3 hours +, merchandise is reasonably priced , new songs performed amd I could go on and on ! Can't we be grateful that they are touring the states and sound incredible! Thank you Robert, Simon, Roger , Jason & Reeves !

  14. Had a funny feeling Jupiter Crash was coming. Though thought an outdoor show might start with 'Underneath the stars'. That'll be the Hollywood Bowl then. My only 'small' gripe is that it I miss One Hundred Years a wee bit every night. And that is a minor gripe.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Don't you think that they should play NY Trip in NYC and Down Under in Australasia?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I Think They Should Stop Embarrassing Themselves & Drop Us Or Them From The Setlist, And Maybe Wrong Number, Too...

Other Than That, That Was A Killer Setlist...

    1. Us or Them is fantastic! And Wrong Number is good, I like it.

    2. Devinion- embarrassing themselves haha you're funny! I'd say it's embarrassing to see all these fans bitching after the Cure played a 3 hour + concert! Opinions are like assholes ,everyone has one ! So the songs you may not like may be another persons favorite! Can't we all be happy that the Cure's touring and their concerts have been rocking

      Delete
    3. Agreed; everyone should be happy they are doing more than three shows in the States.

    4. And Somethings Are Said In Jest...
I Am Extremely Happy With This Tour, The Fact That The Cure Are Still Touring, Playing Ass Kicking Shows...
I Don't Look At It As Bitching, In Regards Of Certain Songs Being Played, I Personally Would Fall The Fuck Out If'n They Turned Around And Played Fear Of Ghosts And Homesick Over Screw, Wrong Number, Us Or Them, And It's Not Being Ungrateful For What Is Being Played, It's Being A Fan Of A Band For 31-32 Years And Knowing What Songs I Would Love To Hear In Their Set, If They Play Them Great, If They Don't Play Them Great, That Won't Stop MeFrom Going To See Them...

      Delete
    5. I think those songs are much better live. Reeves on Wrong Number...wow! Us Or Them...12 years old and the lyrics are still relevant today.

I'll welcome them. Seems every show has something for ever type of fan.

      It's never enough...

  24. thought wrong number was done really well last night. wouldn't have been my choice but thoroughly enjoyed it. anyone else not understand 1 word Robert said last night besides ty? some reverb last night while robert was talking and also thought some of the guitars were a little forward/too loud on some songs drowning out the singing
others songs were great, not sure what the issue was

  27. Review from Marc:

I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS CURE CONCERT IN SAN DIEGO ON THIS NIGHT EVER SINCE I B0UGHT MY 8 PAIRS OF TICKETS WHEN THEY WENT ON SALE. AND ITS NOT BECAUSE I HAD DEAD CENTER FRONT ROW SEATS FOR THE SHOW!!! JULIE, A CLOSE CHILDHOOD FRIEND OF MINE THAT WENT WITH ME TO THE PRAYER TOUR BACK IN 1989, CAME WITH ME THIS TIME AROUND AGAIN. THIS CONCERT REVIEW WILL BE RATHER DIFFERENT SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE MY NOTEBOOK WITH ME WRITING EVERYTHING I SAW. WHICH IM GLAD I DIDN'T BECAUSE, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN EVEN WAY BACK THEN THAT THIS PARTICULAR NIGHT IN MY HOME TOWN WOULD BE A NIGHT LIKE THIS. WITH MY RED CCCP HOCKEY JERSEY AND THE NECKLACES FROM WISH AND BLOODFLOWERS DRAPED AROUND MY NECK, AND MY CURE HAT ON, IT'S TIME TO REVIEW THE SAN DIEGO CURE CONCERT ON MAY 21, 2016.

AS LINDA WHO WAS SITTING TO THE LEFT OF US WAS HOPING THE CURE WOULD PLAY, THE FIRST FEW NOTES OF OPEN FILLED THE COORS AMPHITHEATER. I LOOKED OVER AT HER IN AMAZEMENT. SHE WOULD LATER PREDICT A FEW OTHER SONGS THAT SHE HOPED TO HEAR. THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT HEARING AND WATCHING "OPEN" BEING PERFORMED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. AS I'VE PREVIOUSLY STATED IN NUMEROUS CONCERT REVIEWS FOR COF, SIMON GLEEFULLY HOPS ON ONE FOOT LIKE A KANGAROO TO THE BEAT. I LOOK UP AT JASON PLAYING MOCK DRUMS WITH HIM.

THERE'S SOMETHING MAGICAL HEARING PICTURES OF YOU WITH THE BACKDROP OF PHOTOS OF MARY IN THE BACKGROUND WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING THIS SONG. MAYBE IT'S HEARING THE ENTIRE CROWN SING IT WITH ROBERT. ALL I REMEMBER SINGING THE "DO DO DO DO DO DO DO" PARTS WITH LINDA AND JULIE AS US HARDCORE CURE FANS DO WHEN WE SEE OUR FAVORITE BAND PLAY LIVE.

    THIS TWILIGHT GARDEN

HOW FORTUNATE THAT THE CURE ARE PLAYING SOME OF THEIR B SIDES LIVE IN CONCERT!!! I TO THIS DAY AND I'VE SAID IT BEFORE IN MY REVIEWS HERE ON COF THINK THE CURE'S BSIDES ARE BETTER THAN MOST GROUPS SINGLES. TO THOSE WHO WEREN'T FAMILIAR WITH THIS SONG, CHECK OUT THE WISH CD SINGLES OR BETTER YET GO OUT AND BY THE JOIN THE DOTS BOXSET. YOU'LL PRETTY MUCH HAVE THEM ALL.

    A NIGHT LIKE THIS

AH, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE SEEN THE VIDEO TO THIS??? THE OPENING NOTES ROGER PLAYS INSTANTLY MAKES ME JUMP UP AND DOWN LIKE A MADMAD POSSESSED.

    ALL I WANT

WHEN THE CURE PLAYED THIS SONG, I WAS TRANSFORMED BACK TO THE KISSING TOUR WHEN I SAW THEM 4 TIMES THAT YEAR. I EVEN RECORDED A 30 SECOND CLIP ON MY PHONE WHICH EVEN THOUGH I PUT IT ON A MEMORY STICK CAN'T SEEM TO DELETE IT.

    PUSH

GO GO GO GO GO GO…AHHH I LOOK TOWARDS GRACE A CURE FRIEND OF MINE HERE IN SAN DIEGO. I KNOW THIS IS ONE OF HER FAVORITE CURE SONGS. HEARING PARTICULAR SONGS BRINGS BACK A CORNUCOPIA OF MEMORIES. IM JUST GLAD WE CURE FANS HAVE CHAINOFFLOWERS TO HAVE OUR CONCERT MEMORIES PRESERVED FOREVER.

    JUPITER CRASH

WHEN ROBERT PLAYED A COUPLE CHORDS AS HE SOMETIMES DOES, I INSTANTLY CALLED OUT THE SONG. I KNOW I KNOW, HOW GEEKY IS THAT. BUT HECK, I KNOW PRACTICALLY ALL THE CURE FANS ARE DOING IT AS WELL. HEARING THIS SONG FLOODED MY BRAIN WITH THOSE 6 WMS CONCERTS I SAW IN 1996.

    LAST DANCE

ANOTHER CLASSIC CURE SONG THAT I HOPE THE NEW CURE FANS WILL APPRECIATE AND MAKE THEM GO OUT AND FURTHER EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS.

    LULLABY

AS A BIG WHITE SPIDER WEB APPEARS ON THE SCREEN BEHIND THE CURE, THE OPENING FIRST NOTES MAKES EVERYONE START DANCING INCLUDING YOURS TRULY. THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT BEING UP FRONT PLAYING MOCK KEYBOARDS WITH ROGER, COPYING ROBERT'S MOVES LIKE WHEN HE MOVES HIS FINGERS UP HIS GUITAR AS HE'S SINGING "CREEPS CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE FOOT OF THE BED."

    LOVESONG

I STILL THINK EVERYTIME ROBERT SINGS THIS SONG, I IMAGINE HIM SINGING IT AS LOUD AND AS PASSIONATELY TO MARY ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SINGS "HOWEVER FAR AWAY, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU."

  28. ALT END

THE 2004 ALBUM BY THE CURE ISN'T A FAVORITE ON MANY FANS LISTS. I PERSONALLY THOUGHT IT WAS QUITE GOOD.
ALL MY DREAMS…..CAME TRUE. I'LL BE PLAYING THIS CD MORE JUST HEARING THIS SONG LIVE.

    FASCINATION STREET

I GET SO DARN GEEKED UP HEARING THIS LIVE. I REMEMBER THE PEOPLE AROUND ME SINGING AND DANCING TO THIS SONG ONLY MADE ME SING LOUDER AND DANCE EVEN HARDER.

FROM THE EDGE OF THE DEEP GREEN SEA

THOSE FIRST FEW NOTES, SHOOTS MY BODY WITH A MILLION VOLTS OF ENERGY. IT'S ON MY LIST AS ONE OF MY TOP 5 CURE SONGS TO HEAR LIVE. RS, SIMON, REEVES WHO BY THE WAY SHOULD GET MORE CREDIT FOR THE WAY HE MASTERFULLY PLAYS GUITAR, JASON, AND ROGER ARE SO INCREDIBLY ON THAT NIGHT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!! REEVES SOLO ONLY PROVES ONCE AGAIN THAT HE BELONGS IN THIS GROUP!!! HE PLAYED WITH BOWIE IN A GROUP CALLED "TIN MACHINE". GREAT STUFF!!!

    AT NIGHT

WHEN I DIDN'T HEAR PRACTICALLY ANYTHING FROM 17 SECONDS OR FAITH THE NIGHT BEFORE IN VEGAS, I WAS HOPING THE CURE WOULD PLAY SOMETHING FROM THESE TWO ALBUMS. LUCKILY, THEY PLAYED THREE STRAIGHT SONGS!!!

    PLAY FOR TODAY

SINGING "OOOHHH OOOHHH OOOHHH OOOHHH OOOHHH OOOHHH OOOHHH" WITH JULIE AND LINDA MADE THIS SONG EVEN MORE MEMORABLE. IT'S JUST WHAT WE CURE FANS DO AND SING.

    A FOREST

AHHHH JULIE'S FAVORITE CURE SONG. I REMEMBER HEARING JULIE SAY, "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!" I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SONG TO BE PLAYED THE ENTIRE NIGHT FOR HER. SHE'S NEVER BEEN IN THE FRONT ROW LIKE I USUALLY AM AND TO SEE HER REACTION AND HER SOAKING EVER PRECISE MOMENT OF A FOREST WILL BE A ETCHED FOREVER IN MY MEMORY. I SAT BACK IN MY CHAIR AND RECORDED THE ENTIRE SONG WITH HER THOROUGHLY ENJOYING EVERY SECOND. I LAUGH NOW ONLY BECAUSE SHE REALIZED I WAS RECORDING THE SONG AND WANTED ME TO ENJOY THE SONG AS WELL. I JUST TOLD HER IT WAS HER MOMENT AND TO CHERISH THIS MOMENT.

    WRONG NUMBER

HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO!!!! LOVE WHEN ROBERT ALMOST SCREAMS IT AS IF THE PERSON ON THE OTHER LINE ISN'T SAYING A THING. FREAKING PRICELESS!!! I THINK HEARING RS SAY THIS MADE THE CROWD GO BEZERK AND PERHAPS SOME FANS WHO DON'T LIKE THIS SONG TOO MUCH MAKE THEM RECONSIDER THEIR POSITION.

    THE EXPLODING BOY

A SONG ROBERT SAYS WAS REQUESTED BY SIMON. AS RS WAS SINGING, SIMON WAS ON ONE KNEE ON STAGE PLAYING HIS NEW CUSTOM YELLOW BASS. AS I'VE SAID BEFORE IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD MANY OF THE CURE'S B SIDES, I FULLY SUGGEST AND RECOMMEND YOU CHECK THEM OUT. THEY AREN'T JUST FILLER SONGS. AND THIS B SIDE FROM 1985 ONLY PROVES THE QUALITY OF SONGS THE CURE HAS.

    IN BETWEEN DAYS

AS THE PEOPLE AROUND ME REALIZE THIS NIGHT IS COMING TO A END, I THINK WE AS A GROUP TRIED DESPERATELY TO REMEMBER THIS MAGICAL NIGHT. I KNOW I DID AS THE CONCERT WAS COMING TO AN END. I STILL LIKE THE HA HA HA PART AT THE END!!!

    BOYS DON'T CRY

AS THE BEGINNING OF THE SONG PLAYS, I INSTANTLY TELL THE PEOPLE WHO I JUST ME TO EMAIL ME AND TELL THEM HOW VERY MUCH THEY MADE THIS NIGHT SPECTACULAR. AND AS THE FINAL FEW NOTES WERE BEING PLAYED, THE CROWD ERUPTS IN FULL APPRECIATE FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP. HECK, EVEN ROBERT WHEN HE LOOKED OUT AND HOLDS HIS HAND OVER HIS HEART OUT TOWARDS THE CROWD AS IF HE WAS SAYING THANK YOU TO US.

THIS WAS MY 41 CURE CONCERT AND BY FAR THE BEST SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN. I'M SO GRATEFUL I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE SHOW WITH MY BEST CLOSEST FRIEND FOR SO MANY YEARS…JULIE. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HER. TO SEE HER REACTIONS DURING THE SHOW IN THE FRONT ROW SEEING HER FAVORITE BACK IS PERMANENT ENGRAINED IN MY MEMORY AND WE WILL TALK ABOUT FOR YEARS TO COME. I'M SURE OF IT!!! I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE PEOPLE AROUND ME THAT WERE FANS AS WELL. SINGING TO SONGS LIKE "A NIGHT LIKE THIS" "PUSH" AND "A FOREST" ONLY MADE THIS NIGHT MORE SPECIAL. I THANK THEM, LINDA, AND ESPECIALLY JULIE FOR THAT.

  29. THE CURE PLAYED THEIR GUTS OUT AND THIS PERFORMANCE WAS THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN!!! WE CURE FANS THAT WERE THEIR JUST WITNESSED SOMETHING UNIQUELY…WHATS THE WORD IM LOOKING FOR…OH HECK SPECIAL…MAGICAL…AMAZING!!! IVE NEVER IN THE OVER 30 YEARS IVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS BAND AROUND SEEN ROBERT SMITH DANCE AND BE SO ANIMATED ON STAGE. SIMON RUNNING ALONG THE STAGE WITH ALL THAT ENERGY AND THAT STARE INTO THE CROWD AS HE'S PLAYING DURING THE SONGS WAS A SIGHT TO SEE. REEVES WAS SPOT ON EXCELLENT. HIS GUITAR PLAYING SHOULD BE APPRECIATED MORE. JUST CHECK HIM OUT WHILE HE'S PLAYING!!! JASON WAS AMAZING AS WELL. HE DOESN'T GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES. AND IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE READING THIS REVIEW JASON, I THANK YOU FOR BEING IN THE CURE AND RESPECT AND ADMIRE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO MY FAVORITE BAND IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. AND LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST ROGER, HIS PERFORMANCE WAS SPECTACULAR. I'M IN UTTER AND COMPLETE AWE WATCHING YOU PLAY. I JUST WISH I COULD PLAY PIANO LIKE YOU DO.

I END MY REVIEWS AS I ALWAYS DO ON CHAINOFLOWERS WITH MY HUMBLE THANKS AND GRATITUDE TO CRAIG. I HAVE THE BEST SEATS TO 8 CURE SHOWS BECAUSE OF YOU. THE "WORST" SEATS I HAVE IS 4TH ROW FOR THE FIRST MIAMI SHOW. I PERSONALLY THANK YOU FOR HAVING THIS SITE AND LETTING ME POST CONCERT REVIEWS AND PICTURES FROM THIS NIGHT IN SAN DIEGO ON YOUR SITE. I'M GRATEFUL TO YOU. I WOULD BE HONORED TO SHAKE YOUR HAND CRAIG, SHAKE YOUR HAND, TELL YOU THANK YOU A COUPLE DOZEN TIMES, AND TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOU.

JULIE…MY BESTEST AND CLOSEST FRIEND, AND TO ALL THE CURE FANS IVE MET DURING THIS SHOW, SEEN ME DANCE IN FRONT OF THEM, OR ASKED ME IF THEY COULD TAKE A PICTURE OF ROBERT'S SETLIST WHICH I SOMEHOW MAGICALLY GOT, I THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS CONCERT ON MAY 21, 2016 IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA THE BEST SHOW IVE EVER SEEN.
