Robert interview with UOL

New interview with Robert on UOL (English) today. Here's something interesting:

UOL - You can choose the best album and best song by The Cure?
Robert - Wow! Probably "The Greatest Hits" sums it up, but my personal favorite is the album that we're about to launch. I think it's definitely my favorite kind of music. There's a song on the album called "Christmas Without You". It's the best song I've ever written. Of the old songs by The Cure would probably "10:15 [Saturday Night]." I did the Cure because I had this song.
(Thanks @AaronLaw92 and The Cure Brasil)

'Christmas Without You' (which is said to be about the death of a close friend) was recorded during the '4:13 Dream' sessions. In this Blender interview from 2008, Robert called it “one of the most unhappy things we’ve ever recorded”

  2. Was the interview conducted April 1st? Or was it still April 1sty in Brazil when this was posted? Seems a bit out of the blue.

    1. Not sure what you mean? It's a real interview. He's been doing many of them for the tour. This song has been around for a while. Not out of the blue.

    2. I've been reading the interviews and so far it;s all standard press fodder. Then out of the blue he's talking about new records and songs. Thought maybe RS was taking the piss on April 1st.

  3. If you look at Wikipedia, there's this under The Perfect Boy ... "It is unknown at this time whether the B-side "Without You" is a retitling of a song called "Christmas Without You", a title that was mentioned in early press releases relating to 4:13 Dream." Hmmmm.

  4. "Christmas without you" is a song written during 4:13 Dream. I remember that Robert mentioned it in 2007 rogether with The Hungry Ghost or The Perfect Boy. But it wasn't included on 4:13 Dream.

  5. Back then he said about it: "Christmas without you - that isn't really a happy song."

  6. Oh well... I kinda hate when Robert gives interviews like that cause he teases with things that never happen in the end. He basically said the same about 'A Boy I Never Knew'. Everyone knew the song was written in 2004 but it only leaked in 2008 after it was played Live in Mexico and on the European Leg of the 4Tour. Robert then said in interviews 2004 Cure wasn't the right line-up for this song to be released but current one (4Tour one) is. Still, the recorded version never got released. 'Christmas without you' was to be released on that ominous "dark" side of 4:13 Dream. Never got to happen. So now it's back on? New album? 4:13 Dream part 2? I thought he didn't want to have that one out as a "new" album. So we have Paris 2008 DVD/4:13 Nightmare cd bundle soon? Gaaaahhh.... i see none of that on the horizon.

    1. My advice? Don't believe a word Robert says. Ever! :)

Resign yourself to there never being another Cure album or proper tour or any more DVDS & Deluxe CDs. Then if there is, you'll be greatly surprised and excited. If there's not, no disappointment. It's exactly what you expected. :)

    2. That's why I said I see none of that on the horizon. Anyway... Robert is very welcome to prove me wrong.

    1. Probably better than '4:13 Dream'. Reeves and Porl are about equal in skill, but Porl seemed determined to jerk off his guitars as he added an unnecessary amount of flair to as many songs as possible during the 4Tour. Porl was a more effective guitarist when he wasn't playing in a way that said, "I'm the best guitarist in the world. I'm awesome. I'll insert this solo in here to show you how awesome I am."

  8. Of the recording sessions of The Cure album and 4:13 Dream, Robert or media reports some songs titles that never have been released yet.
    This songs are:
Boy I Never Knew (2004) (07/08 played live and a leaked studio demo)
Please Come Home (2004) (Leaked studio demo)
    Strum (2004) (Leaked studio demo)
Christmas Without You (2007/2008) (Not released yet)
Lusting Here in Your Mind (2007/2008) (Not released yet).

I was searching around the net and digging in my memories and I remember the above.

Am I right or something else is slipping to my acknowledgement?

  9. In the itw with O globo (posted on COf)

    - RS says that they may release a new album with songs recorded last year, but that they have not decided yet. He is not in a rush with anything and that is a great feeling of freedom. They tour nowadays for the pleasure of playing and being on stage, not for promoting any specific album.

    "no rush"... be patient.

    1. "No rush" from Robert = expect to wait at least half a decade

  10. The teasing is so not cool. And it's constant. So if that's the way he wants it to be then he just doesn't value our friendship very much. And after I gave him the best years of my life he has refused to acknowledge my existence and pretends he doesn't even know me when I try to telephone him and write him letters and go through his trash to see if there's anything interesting in there and stare at his flat through binoculars.
