'Reflections' general planning/discussion
This topic will be for general planning, discussion, and requests (except tickets) for the 'Reflections' shows. Who needs what and who can help? Want to plan a fan meet up, ask for help in Sydney, look for a ride to the show, or someone to share a room with? This is the place. Let's help make this the best fan experience ever.

Heron, will you post your ideas and thoughts on the Happy Birthday Simon singalong here? And then everyone else can offer their thoughts and ideas.
ReplyDeleteTony, you were looking for advice on hotels? Please post your request here. Thanks!
Restoring the lost comments.
ReplyDeleteFrom Swifty: If you're looking for GREAT RATES on a variety of hotels in the vicinity of the SOH - wotif.com
From Rev. Heron:
ReplyDeleteThanks Craig! Here's my idea:
I was thinking we could sing Happy Birthday to Simon some time during the show, like after Seventeen Seconds is done and before the intermission happens. I don't know about the timing as we don't want to mess up the filming, but it was really nice to sing to Robert for his birthday in Vegas and we had enough participation to make it worthwhile. Hoping we can do the same for Simon on his actual birthday.
From billouparis:
ReplyDeleteHey Rev. Heron, I like your idea! They could event keep it for the video recording, don't you think?
From KelBel:
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing Rev! But forget the balloons this time it might mess up the FILMING!
I am SURE we’ll get an Encore that is not part of the SHOW? I HOPE?!
From Shellheart:
ReplyDelete@Heron: Do you still have a Nightmare Shirt? My shirt is a bit used already and it would be great to get a new one...
Glad to see you soon!
From Rev. Heron:
ReplyDeleteShellheart, I have very few left, what size do you need?
From Cureheart:
ReplyDelete@shellheart, it's Debi. I'm not on Myspace anymore. Are you on FB at all yet there in Germany ;o) I can't wait to see you.
From Lars:
ReplyDeleteMabye stypid question
but whitch airport is closest to Sydney 'city'
- New South Wales airport Or Kingsford Smith airport ?
I believe it's the Kingsford Smith airport. If you are booking your flight, use the airport code SYD and that will get you the flights you want.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sydneyairport.com.au/
And if you want to save some money, and are staying downtown, take the light rail instead of a cab or shuttle.
ReplyDelete"Airport Link is a fast and convenient way to reach the centre of Sydney. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes and the journey into the city takes only 13 minutes. The international and domestic rail stations link directly to the City Circle which means most city destinations are within a short walk of stations."
From christinaP:
ReplyDeleteI think making a big deal about Simon's bday would be awesome for filming! Maybe we can talk to some of the camera crew at the first show and see what they think? They might LOVE the idea!
Boring accommodation. This has nothing to do with the atmosphere of 3IB, 17S and faith.
ReplyDeleteIf you asked Robert 20 years ago about performing in theathres like this he would laughed you out.
This is a marketing action to make money. This has nothing to do with their music.
What a joke.
I was thinking about what we could use as a cue for the Happy Birthday song - and thought we could smuggle in a folded-up Happy Birthday Simon sign, and then when we pulled it out that would be the signal for everyone to start. What do you all think?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteFrom Freesia:
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to plan a fan meet-up for b/f the 1st show? I may have one extra ticket to each of the shows (depending on whether or not my friend can get to sydney) and I won't know until last minute. Then we can sell any extra tix to fans who still need them?

ReplyDeleteWally, we sang to Robert on his 50th in Las Vegas and he LOVED it!! It doesn't matter how old you are, it's nice to have people appreciate the fact that you were born.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and it isn't like anyone is being forced to do it. If you want to participate, go for it! If not, that's fine.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm pretty sure Robert will be singing a Happy Birthday to Simon as he did at the Shrine show in 08.
Craig: I think we are all hoping that he does something similar!!!

ReplyDelete@WallyD hmm, i've always found it normal to sing happy birthday to anyone whose birthday it was, regardless of age.
ReplyDelete...I'm not sure NSW airport exists? Kingsford Smith is out international airport and really the only way to go :)
ReplyDeletei say forget the birthday thing, and we all should bring sparklers(as someone did in trilogy) and all light them off before the faith set. how cool would that look for the dvd?!?!?
ReplyDeleteCool? Yes! Safe and okay with the SOH? Probably not.
ReplyDeletethere's an app for that
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone who needs accommodation for the night of 1 June?
ReplyDeleteI have booked a 2 bedroom, 4 bed suite in the 5 star motel directly next door to the Sydney Opera House.
You would be sharing with 2 x 35yo Australian males. We are in the room the night before for both concerts but can only offer for night 2 as a couple of friends are with us for the first night. As such you can have the space from the morning of 1 June.
The suite is $500, you can have half for $200.
Please email tadzone69-cof@yahoo.com.au with your details and we can sort out the details.
The sparklers are a sure-fire way to get kicked out of the Opera House. Just sayin'.
ReplyDelete@Heron: Size L would be fine and a friend would like to have one S.
ReplyDeleteShellheart, I have an XL and a M left in the ladies V. I have one of the Smalls left in crew neck. Let me know!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it has been said elsewhere, but just a bit more info on the trains etc. I would say the best way to get to the SOH would be using a train and the closest station is called ‘Circular Quay’. The main Sydney station is called ‘Central’ and the next few main ones are called ‘Town Hall’ and ‘Wynyard’. You can walk from ‘Wynyard’ – but I would suggest getting a train from any of these three around to ‘Circular Quay’. When you get out of this station you’ll know exactly where to go! Here is the train website where you can use the trip planner. http://www.cityrail.info/ Definitely best to get into the city from the International Airport by train. Taxis will generally cost more and take longer.
ReplyDeleteAnother website for accommodation would be www.lastminute.com.au
@robsmithslipstick - Is it possible to get to the SOH by train from Museum Station, which is the nearest station from our hotel?
ReplyDeleteJunko: Yes, a train does go from Museum Station to Circular Quay Station, then you can walk from there to the SOH (about a 5 minute stroll along the waterfront).
ReplyDeleteAlso, if anyone else is wanting a general public transport planner, try http://131500.info/ as it includes buses, trains and walking routes, with maps provided.
Anyone organising a pre-gig or post gig drink party for show goers on the 1st June?
ReplyDeleteAnyone organising a pre or post gig drink for gig goers? Any suggestions Sydney-siders?
ReplyDeleteThank you, grinderman. The train and the monorail seem to be very useful in Sydney. :-)
ReplyDelete@Rev, I will buy your M or S, whichever Shellheart doesnt want!
ReplyDeleteSarah (forgot my login!)
My hotels the corner of Wynyard and York!
ReplyDeleteI guess that means that I'll probably walk! :D
@gogotom
ReplyDeletecureconnectons is organizing two meet-ups, one right before each show. if you're interested in a meet-up you can go here for more info.
http://www.cureconnections.com/live-2011/9758-the-cure-reflections-ccc-meet-up.html
Well, Sarah.. Maybe Uncle Robert has your login with his.. O_o
ReplyDeleteJunko: Honestly, the monorail is considered a novelty by people who live in Sydney, mainly because it is independently owned and not affiliated with the government, so it's quite pricey (one of the most expensive transport systems in the world per-km). Having said that, it's the perfect way for a traveller to first experience the city when they get there, as it takes you around some of the main areas of the city. The train system is very good, but the distances that will be travelled within the city don't really require the use of trains; buses are the main form of transportation within the city (and south-east of the city), so I would personally suggest using buses when inside the city itself. Also, if you're staying in the CBD, it's not that far to walk to Circular Quay if you follow down Hyde Park and then go down Elizabeth/Phillip Sts. Many buses stop/start at Circular Quay, so if you don't feel like walking, I'd suggest hopping on a bus.
ReplyDelete@grinderman - Thank you for further information. Though it's pricy, it'll be fun riding the monorail to see the city from above.
ReplyDeleteI know buses are very useful but my guidebook says it's difficult for travellers to get off at the right place because there isn't any announcement where the next stop is. Or should I give a try?
Junko: It's worth a try; just ask the driver if he can you let you when you get to a certain place, sit near the front, and he'll yell out to you when you get there.
ReplyDelete@grinderman - Sitting near the driver! I've never thought of that. That's good idea. I'll give a try then. :-D
ReplyDelete@Heron:Then I take the M. cu soon

ReplyDeletego to the eastbank restaurant on the harbor before the shows. it's ridiculously expensive but the food is out of this world, and there's a dessert called the chocolate dome that will blow you away!
ReplyDeleteThis is a brand new YHA hostel within walking distance from the Opera House - might be worth a look for accommodation:

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind going out after the show.... anyone doing anything?
ReplyDeleteAh! just waiting for my flight to Sydney now! :D
Sarah
Porl leave THE CURE????
ReplyDeletei hope that f*cking volcano ash from iceland wont affect the bands departure towards sydney.
ReplyDeletei'm seriously worried about the ash situation.
ReplyDeletei'm seriously worried about it too...this would be disastrous for everyone, myself and European fans included...cant do much about it but you have to say it couldn't have come at a worse time
ReplyDeleteMe too...leaving on Saturday from Sweden...
ReplyDeletei'm more positive now. experts are saying that it wont cause the chaos like last year. 70 airlines did some testing earlier this year and the results were that 70% of the cancelled flights last year could have been flown. althought the ash will probably cause some cancellations in britain i'm sure that the band will do everything to get to australia.
ReplyDeleteOf all the things to have to worry about, I never thought the volcano in Iceland would be the thing to cause trouble for the band & fans. Fingers and toes crossed for everyone!
ReplyDeleteBut as Antti said, it looks like it might not be as bad as last year. Hopefully they learned some lessons from that and are better prepared for any travel disruptions.
Wow what a terrible time for that volcano to blow! I sure hope this does not mess up any plane flights for The Cure and for all of the fans who are going to Sydney next week. Looks like it's going to be an awesome show, I really wish I could go. Hopefully I'll get to see it on DVD, so damn volcano do not mess the shows!
ReplyDeleteJust incase I am not the only one who didn't read the ticket confirmation details properly, if you purchased your tickets through ticketmaster and selected the 'pick-up' option - remember that the pick up is from Ticketmaster - not the SOH. The closest one to the venue is at the State Theatre on the corner of Market and Pitt St... happy travels everyone!
