Robert is pissed off!

And rightfully so! Read his letter to the Mighty U at the official site. Robert rocks!

  1. Like I said in the other Topic. Robert needs to get as far away from the Shitey U as possible.

  3. over 30 years in the music business. robert needs to create his own label, under a bigger/better label than Universal and then sign his own acts. then he can end The Cure and be a record producer just like Jay-Z. :p

    ReplyDelete
  4. yes, andy, even better. robert, begin your own record label so you needn't deal with this nonsense!
    how about Night Nurse? ;D

    ReplyDelete
  5. I can still get on there fine Vikk :S.

I don't know if Robert needs to get his own Label but he really needs to change thats a given.

    ReplyDelete
  6. http://www.thecure.com/default.asp cannot be displayed

    ReplyDelete
  7. can anybody copy and paste what RS wrote?

by the way I couldn't find anywhere a copy of the EP in Dublin, dammit!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can´t view the site either. Server too busy. I guess all universal employers are reading it and are now planning the next step in annoying us all. I´m not buying another universal recording after Dream 4:13. :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I can still get on the offical website. No problem here. Although I expect it will go down in a few hours and Roberts Post to be... erm.... altered

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks Craig, you´re the best! And Roberts post kicks universals ass all the way to the moon :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. and obviously Universal is keeping their share of the money, as Bob implies. bet he wishes he stuck with Elektra right about now.

    ReplyDelete
  12. this might be old news but "please come home" is online...you have to et the links yourself as per craigs wishes, but doesn't take a genius to find it

    ReplyDelete
  13. Robert kick ass!

that's clear Universal is keeping their shares!

    "I FUCKING DESPAIR
    AGAIN"

Bob is upsaet with the Universal nonsense (e.g. all the singles poorly availebel in the shops and so on..)

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's unclear if the "please come home" thats online is from the 2004 recordings or the new ones.

Either way it's a fucking ace song.

    ReplyDelete
  15. About Please Come Home.
    It's from the 2004 session.
    So, not a new version..
Good climax, strong chorus and this litlle solo of..?
    Nothing, but works very well.
Very emotional..reminds me a bit Your God is Fear mixed with Another Day..
it's a shame that the lyrics are so bad..but anyway he sings them very powerful.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks for posting it, Craig. I can't get in to thecure.com, it appears to be down at the moment. Poor Robert even when he tries to do something right it gets fucked up by other people (TMU).

    ReplyDelete
  17. If it's from the 2004 sessions then I suspect it will be changed a fair bit if its released on the new album.

Looks like (or should that be sounds like) ABINK has gone through some changes since 2004 too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ha! Now I can't get on the Offical Site too. Something is up. Too much of a coincidence for the website to go down a few hours after his rightful outburst.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Please come home gives me goosebumps.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Please Come Home... vinyl rip? Very interesting. This is one of three, and I know the person who leaked it has the others too. Anyone care to share?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I can access the Hynpagogic States sample at thecure.com but nothing else...

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Please Come Home leak originated over on MFC, if I'm not mistaken. Oh the coincidences....

And a few minutes ago I could still get into the official. But no more.

I have to wonder if Please Come Home leaking isn't a Robert thing? Maybe a sign it won't be making the new album?

    ReplyDelete
  23. i can access the whole thecure.com site with no problem

    ReplyDelete
  24. I posted this over on the official, as a kind of plea to Robert.

    Robert,

The Cure is not a band that benefits from being on a major label. If you signed with a smaller indie label like Merge or Matador, you would be the big band on the label and they would give you the promotion and treatment that a band with your history and track record deserve. Take a note from Sonic Youth, who just left The Mighty U for a deal with Matador, and follow a similar course. I feel that The Cure, and their fans would benefit as a whole.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i wonder if "please come home" Boy i never knew and other outtakes make it on the album if perry or roger get credit or will robert tweak it enough to where they are not credited.

on another note thats a dick move ny Universal...at this point if i was robert i would pull a trent and tell people to steal the album (robert has plenty of money and i believe for him it isn't about the money otherwise we would all be doing the hansa)

or pull a smashing pumpkins and release a "second album free online...

    ReplyDelete
  26. where please come home has been linked?

    ReplyDelete
  27. comic: i fully agree. the cure need to pull out of a major labor ASAP and pursue an indie one. they are, after all, the "overlords" of the alternative scene (as one mag put it), and being with TMU taints their credibility. rsx needs to stop worrying about gargantuan popularity and realize that they will ALWAYS have a rabid fanbase and will also ALWAYS appeal to a wider audience... and yet they will NEVER pull in the thunderous masses as they once did, and there is NOTHING wrong with that, because the cure continue to make kick-ass fucking music - i don't care what ANYONE says! :-)

get thee the fuck away from TMU, RSX!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. maslindo- i dont think people are allowed to tell you that here on COF, but i have it and i could send you the link somewhere else if you want, but im afraid i dont know for certain that by doing that it might affect COF..

    ReplyDelete
  29. http://www.zona-musical.com/postt100476.html

not released, not official.. then we can download :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Since the song is not commercially available, it should be ok to post the links. I'm assuming it's the version from The Cure sessions, and not the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  31. can't understand the lyrics, really, but love the music.

    desperation. it's very sexy.
    when robert does desperation anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I look out the window watching the world go round.
I wonder where you are now. I wish you were here now.
Waiting at the window I watch the rain come down.
Wondering what to do now. Wishing you were here now.

    I don’t understand why you couldn’t stay.
I don’t understand why you went away.
    I don’t understand why you wouldn’t say.
I only know I need you now to…

    Please, come back to me.
    Please, come home.
    Please, come back to me.
    Don’t leave me here alone.
Knocked down here on my own…

I watch out the window whispering hopeless words.
I won’t let you go now. I want you here now.
Watching out the window, whisper a helpless world.
Pulling me back now. Wanting you here now.

    I don’t understand why you couldn’t stay.
I don’t understand why you went away.
    I don’t understand why you wouldn’t say.
I only know I need you now to…

    Please, come back to me.
    Please, come home.
    Please, come back to me.
    Don’t leave me here alone.
Don’t leave me on my own.
    Don’t leave me here alone.
Knocked down here on my own…

Still I wait at the window watching the world go round.
I wonder where you are now.
    Please, come home…

    ReplyDelete
  33. i tried to decipher the lyrics and mine where a bit different from rodrigo's atempt.. but i love the song! really really love it

    ReplyDelete
  34. its the version from the sessions..

thanks to the unknown guy who uploaded it by the way..

its a shame that they dont have keyboards now, this kind of songs really needs them at the background..

    ReplyDelete
  35. i agree, the keyboards here are kinda hidden sometimes but they are beautiful, god im inlove with this song

    ReplyDelete
  36. is there a version of ABINK from the The Cure Sessions?? (available)??

    ReplyDelete
  37. carlos its not my attempt, this lyrics have a long time going trhu the net, maybe since Ross Robinson talked about the existance of Please come home, A boy i never knew and strum

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, I posted the lyrics on the old COF site. Should be in the Aug. 06 news archives, along with Strum and ABINK. When I posted them, RS said they were not entirely correct, so there were probably some changes made to them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ooh ok ok thanks for clearing that up, i tried it beacuse i never thought there would be any lyrics of it floating around.. but if theres a recording it's no surprise that the lyrics are somewhere in ciberspace

    ReplyDelete
  40. so, theres lyrics but no recording on the net? or theres both?? :O

    ReplyDelete
  41. Why assume that that version of Please Come Home is from 2004? What are the grounds for assuming that?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Because there are 3 tracks from those sessions that have been floating around for two years now.
Plus, there are keyboards in this version, and they are buried in the mix. A true signature of the Cure sessions! : )

    ReplyDelete
  43. ooh so could anyone post the links to those recordings please? (strum and ABINK) if its not to much to ask:)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I can´t access to the news page of the official site. It´s shut down.
This is happening from Mexico City.

Just the front page, but the preview doesn´t download.

I´m guessing if this failure has to do with the Robert´s complaining.Maybe U Music is trying to avoid that the people see that thy´re messing up things.

It´s great to see that RSx is always aware of what´s happening with the distribution of hus music.

Robert is very pissed off because th without precedents more than awful and terrible work of TMU on the promotion of the 4 singles and EP. Cheers to you Robert !!!!

This new failure is another sign that Robert has to move out from TMU right now.

There is no reason to stay in.

    Let´s see.

    Return to good news.

Thanks for sharing PLEASE COME HOME.

I knew that also there is a leak of the song "STRUM", which come from "The CURE" album sessions, i only read that it is a good poppy song, well structured.

    I never heard it.

So, if anyone out there has it PLEASE SHARE IT WITH US......

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh almost i forget it....

Please if you can share " STRUM" and "ABINK" demos...

    Thanks a lot in advance...

    :)

    * hoping sighs *

    ReplyDelete
  46. yeah where was i when strum was being talked about? :c
    anyone feel like sharing?

    ReplyDelete
  47. come on craig!

give us a little present :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Three tracks floating around for two years? I read COF daily and hang around three different Cure boards, and that's the first time I've heard about this.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't think they were ever posted online.

    ReplyDelete
  50. what the hell does STRUM stand for? anything?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry about MFC being down -- I upgraded the forum software and I'm currently re-skinning everything.

It's very hard on the eyes at the moment and you'll have a bit of trouble finding things... but it'll be worth it when it's all done, I promise :D

It's back up for browsing now, should be totally finished the end of the week (hopefully earlier).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey Geri, is that true that MFC has or had STRUM, ABINK & PLEASE COME HOME available for download ?

    ReplyDelete
  53. there are other labels out there...he could start his own...if the violate their deals and their ends of the contract he can get out of whatever contract they have...

robert, and actual artist in music, especially these days, deserves better than this shit.

    burn the U

    ReplyDelete
  54. Robert and co. should rush out the Christmas album! This ould fulfil there obligation to TMU and then they can choose to deal with a sensible, more organised label - who will actually promote their talent.

    ReplyDelete
  55. mad bob: Not that I'm aware of... people are claiming to have demos, but they haven't been posted that I know of.

    ReplyDelete
  56. OK Geri, thanks for answer.

    You´re very nice.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. All of this is very interesting. And thecure.com is somewhat dysfunctional...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Please Come Home is a gem.

Anyone know why it wasn't put on the album? That leaked version sounds very complete to me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. the fact, its you can think what you want about this topic.. A boy i never knew its an exelent song too, and had the same destiny that please come home..

I really think that the best stuff from the 2004 The Cure (album) sessions wasn't part of the cd album (i mean b sides, and at least 2 of this 3 ghost songs)..

and well its happening the same now with the singles (the perfect boy its an exception)..

the.. why? well, who knows.. why Robert kept his best songs out?..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Please Come Home does still sound like a demo, but a fairly polished one. Even if this is from the 2004 sessions, the amount of buried keyboard on it isn't much more than the buried keys on the newer songs. I wouldn't be surprised to hear the new version of this song sounding quite similar to the old one. Just because the band don't use keys live anymore (apart from the backing tracks) doesn't mean there won't be some sparse keys on the album, especially if the song could be played live sans keys (as this one surely can).

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love you Robert! Start your own label! Just think of the possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Now that I've listened to Please Come Home a few times, I think Craig is perfectly right that it comes from the 2004 sessions. (And, out of all of us, Craig would be in the best position to know.) It sounds a lot like the 2004 material and not like the new material, or at least what we've heard of it.

I also understand why Robert didn't release this version. The guitar tracks are fabulous, but somehow the vocal melody (vaguely reminiscent of Truth Goodness & Beauty) doesn't work on top of the guitars. The vocals are also overproduced, as compared to the raw simplicity of the guitars. I'll be really curious to hear how the version on the new album sounds.

Meanwhile a billion thanks to whoever leaked this thing. There are clearly two further tracks, since this mp3 contains metadata stating that it is track 1 of 3.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Glue: The other 2 tracks should be Strum and A Boy I Never Knew (04 version). But I don't think they've ever been posted. At least not yet.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I posted the lyrics for these 3 songs on Aug. 10th

    ReplyDelete
  65. Just finished listening to Please Come Home. Man, it blew me away. Robert has such raw emotion in his voice. It reminds me of how it used to be before the overproduction and the second guessing.

The guitars are also freaking awesome. They have an amazing shoegazing quality to them that I miss.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And here's what I posted back on Aug. 5th, 2006:

And all that could have been...in so many different ways....

"Wanted to give you some info on the 3 unreleased tracks from the cure's 2004 album. these were not featured on any version of the album or b-side releases:

A Boy I Never Knew - AMAZING! Possibly the most honest and mature song Robert has ever written. Lonely Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Light Drums and Sparse String Section. Reminds me of a children's lullaby (which makes sense since he supposedly wrote it for the son he never had) Could be compared to "going nowhere" in tone, but the simple, yet catchy tune reminds me of something from Kiss Me. Overall the track could have easily fit on Disintegration.

Strum - Another song that could have lived on Disintegration (as a b-side probably) although sonicly the track has more in common with Wish-era. The lyrics are very clever and literate in a way that Robert hasn't exhibited since The Top.

Please Come Home - Another song that could have easily lived on the second side of Disintegration. The track seems a little unfinished until the lead-in to the chorus. Then it really takes off. Jason's tribal drumming, mixed with the monolith keyboards competing with Robert's vocals really brings me back to 1989. Sends chills and makes you realize the slow undistinguished build-up only sells the song more.

And there you go. Why these tracks never made it onto the album, I have no idea. These, plus the songs available on the vinyl release (TGB, Going Nowhere, This Morning), easily put the 2004 album up there with Disintegration in my opinion. My favorite band of all time has not lost one ounce of talent or focus over the last 15 years- they've just made a few bad choices in terms of song selections for their albums. Maybe they'll follow their hearts on the next one...."

    (Thanks Anonymous)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Craig, have you listened the 2 left unreleased demos from "The Cure" album sessions, ABINK and Strum ?

    ReplyDelete
  68. *wishes she wasn't so technically inept to find these things*

    ReplyDelete
  69. well i agree with anonymous. strum has some pretty amazing lyrics that remind me of old cure.
i cant believe anonymous didnt let you listen to the songs, craig!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I lurve my Cure peeps. You know who you are!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous Robinson?..

    maybeee?

or maybe i heard that on a dream (lacaaaann please come help us!)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Why on God's Green Acres did Robert Smith ever get into bed with these Universal people to begin with?

But I do love the E-Mail he sent to Universal. Eerily similar to the "fuck you and farewell" E-Mail I sent to my boss yesterday on my last day at the old job.

    Now that was fun!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. By the way...How much does that 7.99 translate to in American money? Just curious how screwed they are getting over in England.

    ReplyDelete
  74. DA - about $15.

And there is nothing more satisfying than the "fuck you and farewell" email.

Have you started the new job?

    ReplyDelete
  75. $15??

Holy good night Mary Ellen Ryan and all the saints in Ireland! I understand now why Robert was so upset!

I start the new job on 9/22. I'm taking the whole next week off. Monday has officially been designated as: "Sit in Underpants watching The Price is Right and catching up on Days of Our Lives" Day

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. LOL anguish! really glad to hear that! bravo :)

oh robert... why did you ever sign with U?

    ReplyDelete
  77. RRobinson is not intelligent enough to have written what anonymous wrote. But I had forgotten about these songs (save ABINK) and so I am now very intrigued.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think it is really sad that after so many yrs in the business this is happening to the band, treated like idiots and taking advantage of their generous decision to give proceeds to charity.

If Robert does make this the last album, it will tinged with bitterness, lets hope he doesnt decide to rerecord it all

    ReplyDelete
  79. Alastair - Let's just hope they get out another album quickly to fulfil the 3 album obligation - and then they can start making decisions without TMU's involvement.

    ReplyDelete
  80. the proposed chronological singles collection might be the bands kiss off to free them from the label?

    this sucks really

    ReplyDelete
  81. Just listened to Please Come Home...simply amazing. The only think I can't figure out is why anyone would use the FHG encoder over LAME. Actually, I'm even more wondering why it wasn't leaked in wave or flac.

Hope to hear the other 2 sooner than later. :)

P.S. The Cure hasn't been to Minneapolis, MN since 1996. Please come back. :(

    ReplyDelete
  82. go robert!! Once again he is looking out for the people who actually care about the band. Plus he is also trying to make some $$$ for the greater cause (though i cant remember what it is exactly at the momment.) They should just sign to a smaller label to get the attention they deserve. then get there own label with similar acts which would only highlight the cures presence in the ever-growing world of popmusic.
BTW my 2 fav songs by the cure are apinkdream, and exploding boy!! which also proves the power of their b-sides.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Re: the label debate floating around. May I just say that over the last year NIN released two albums, both experimental either in style or in the way the music was made available to the public (one is still available for free), make almost as much money as before, are touring extensively - all this WITHOUT the support of any label.

They achieved this by using the www community: set up a good website, keep the fan base involved and have a web manager that is directly involved with the band. I am a long time fan and so I may be biased but I have the feeling that NIN get a lot of benefits from this freedom: things get done the way they want, fans are more excited than ever, prices are fair - thus people buy the music even though they have the option; mind you, concert tickets are quite pricey and so is most paraphernalia ($45 for some t-shirts). But at least people have a choice to pay for what they want. In this process NIN have made a huge V sign to the fat music corporate posse ... and, oh, their website does not mysteriously go down all of a sudden ;). Perhaps this model may work well for artists like the Cure who are concerned not just about the music but also about the process through which their music goes around. Food for thought.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i agree with everyone who said they should make their own independent label! Freedom!

    ReplyDelete
  85. When playing this file in WinAmp the shown album cover is of the Elvis album Tomorrow is a long time. Anyone with the same experience?

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think Craig probably shouldn't say whether or not he has heard the 3 songs. :-)

I totally agree with d re NIN. What NIN is doing is the future of music distribution, and I'd love to see The Cure follow suit.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Monkeybutt asked what does "strum" stands for, well i think it stands for the verb strumming, as in playing the guitarre:)

i already knew about this songs, but i never knew they were up on the net until yesterday and the only one so far available is please come home, but i guess the others are too, we just need to look harder, i mean craig did say there were recordings of those songs floating around on the net..

    ReplyDelete
  88. Did I miss the link to those songs? I have scrolled up and down and can't find it... or am I supposed to troll the web myself? Please advise. Merci. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  89. au moin il avertie tout le monde de pas achetée avec iTunes je trouve ca très genereux de sa par et très honnête !

    ReplyDelete
  90. I find it funny, that the Freakshow remix devides the fanbase into two corners. There seem to be many people who like it, based on the poll and the same amount of people who hate it. I quite like it... it has a Depeche Mode kinda feeling to it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Haven't heard the full Freakshow mix yet. The EP wasn't available on Saturday at either record store, so I have to wait until Tuesday to get it. I am so looking forward to this... pretty hilarious considering my cantankerous attitude toward it recently....

Does anyone else enjoy re-reading RSX's e-mail? It's deliciously profane and to the point...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Please come home is one of the finest Cure songs since a long time, and it can really be in the all time tops. Once again, this also proves that they (or rsx) CAN do good stuff - if they are allowed to (like in the good old Fiction days). Probably Mighty U or whatever else is controlling them thinks that Cure is just "Friday I'm in Love", and that the fans are as dumb as the song itself.

About the MP3: I can't understand why one would choose the compressed, lossy format instead of a CD except for the portability reasons. MP3 isn't the real deal. It's just easier (and WAY cheaper) to make a master MP3 with 320kbps and offer it to the fans than to press a trillion CDs that won't be sold and will be available at P2P an hour later it's pressed.

Can't wait to see rsx with "SLAVE" written on his forehead just like Prince did.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The offical is back up, at least for me anyway.

Nothing has been removed so maybe last nights downtime was a coincidence....

    ReplyDelete
  94. please come home tears a hole in your heart...

i am soo glad they kept ABINK, and those two of the self titled. :)
they were meant for this album

    ReplyDelete
  95. ahem, mandelbrot, as a prince obsessive i have to just point out that 'slave' was not scrawled on his forehead, but on the left side of his face.

    :|

    /crazy

    carry on!

    ReplyDelete
  96. i love please come home. lurve it muchly.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I just asked this question on the official site, but I was browsing on Amazon for Hypnagogic and they have a CD/DVD - 'The Document' available for pre order on Sep. 30th. Any more info on that? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Not sure if this was discussed yet, but I haven't had time to read all the postings...

But The Cure should go completely independent and sell their own records directly off of their website. They have a large enough fan base that they should be able to sell records and the money will go directly to them instead of to a record label. Much like what Nine Inch Nails has been doing lately, it sounds like it's working better for them.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think these are exciting times for the Cure. New album, I think, will be smashing... EP sounds surprisingly excellent... there will be another tour of sorts... and they are on the verge of telling their record company to go fuck themselves. Good things will come of this - they can start their own label, or go with a cool indie label, or... the possibilities are limitless!

    The Cure forever, yo!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I love Roberts vocal performance on Please Come Home. I love the abject, forlorn, supplicatory emotion in his voice, in every single note.
...I like how his voice and the music build slowly and carefully, creating all this tension, and then it breaks suddenly, putting you in an uncomfortable emotional vice grip. It sneaks up on you... His voice starts off calm and steady, and then it culminates with this intense quivering emotion... I liek that song!!!
And Going Nowhere! Although it's a lot more emotionally "consistent", I love the arrangement, everything fits together perfectly. And Roberts shuddering breath at the very end reeeeally gets to me...
Sigh, no other man on earth makes me feel like that.
    Truth Goodness And Beauty, Going Nowhere, Clouberry, Please Come Home.... oooh, I hope we get a setlist/encore with some of those on the next tour! ;_;
I'll have a heart attack and die for sure, but it will sooooo be worth it.

    Monila-
I've seen The Document up for pre-order at Amazon too. It looks promising, and I think quite a few people are pre-ordering it, but I'm trying to find more info on it before I purchase it... Not much luck so far. :/

  102. i think th EP sounds pretty awful, like something you would heard played at a bad island club town like ibiza,,surprisingly jared letos; is the only one (ha see what i did there) that kept any spirit to the song...not that it was brilliant by any means and i realize they are remixes...but good remixes keep the spirit of the song whilst changing them also in my opinion. alt of people take the piss on mixed up but its a great album, (with much better remixers. such as robert himself and william orbit) what i liked about mixed up is not only are they remixes ( and some i think sound better than the original: caterpilar, pics of you, fas street, and lovesong) but its like having 2 different versions of the same song by the same artist..not a lame 90s lets dance MTV rave compilation which is hypnagogic states....

    ReplyDelete
  103. I agree that Robert should make his own label and he probably will eventually. It's to bad for this release they just can't pull out of the deal and go to an indie label then perhaps we can get a full-on north american world tour instead of sparse dates.

I will be waiting for the EP to be £4.00 or less...

    Regards,
    Liz in Minneapolis

  105. Helsa, once again, I have fallen in love with you. You need to write for my webzine. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  106. RS could convince Mighty Fucking U that the EP is the second CD of their deal, thus the band would be released of their contract after 4:13 Dream.

    ReplyDelete
  107. sterogum thinks they can call robert emo and get away with it:

    I FUCKING DESPAIR
    AGAIN

    ReplyDelete
  108. msp- Thats what i thought, but i'm pretty sure that the contract specifies -Only Studio Albums- and -No EPs- or else it would be too easy. Question: What happens if RS breaks the deal with the label before fullfiling the contract? he gets sued?? i thought i heard him say in an interview a couple years ago that those kind of contracts are not that serious, that nothing serious happens if you dont do your part of the deal nothing serious happens.. but i've always had that doubt..

  110. Is it wrong that I'm playing Please Come Home in an infinite loop? I can't get it out of my head.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Marc - me too!

I'm thinking musically it sounds a bit similar to "The Drowning Man." Is it just me? Does anyone else hear dark and old Cure sounds in that song?

    ReplyDelete
  112. CHRISX!!

How are you?!?! How's the clean-up after Ike?!

  115. I just heard Strum and ABINK Demos.
The other 2 unreleased songs from "The Cure" Sessions.

Great songs. Not much more to said.

ABINK Demo is a little slower than the live versions we know.
I love the piano on it.
Smith sings in a very emotional way.
    Perfect.

Strum is hard to describe, not poppy but not hard rock.
    Something in the middle.
    A little short for me.

Both have light keyboards, that works good for the songs.

    Which´s better ?

For me PCH & ABINK are tied, maybe PCH a little ahead.

STRUM is very good too, but the overall mood of the previous two is CURE finest.

    CURE IS THE BEST !!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Care to share Mad Bob? Or have links to those already been posted?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Can you share the newly-recovered demos? Am desperately scrambling to find the link to where I found PCH, without success - did you find them in the same place, or do you know someone on the inside?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Okay, yeah, I need these other songs please. I have Please Come Home and that's it. Help a po gal out, por favor!

  119. just checked on french iTunes... the whole EP is 9.99€ here as well, when the 4 first remixes are 0.99€ each... "exploding head syndrome" is available for sale only when you buy the whole EP.
    " The Great (U) Rock'n'Roll Swindle "

(and oh, for the morons, 1€ is approx. 1.4 US$)

    ReplyDelete
  120. thanks for insulting everyone with your currency explanation. :)

  127. Mad Bob: These tracks must be set free. I'm sure, in the current "Mighty Universal" climate, RS would approve :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. bob, i'm in agreement with everyone else about those tracks...push out the jive and bring in the love.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Set the tracks freeeeeee!!

It will be very interesting to have two studio versions of a couple of those from different line-ups.

    ReplyDelete
  130. May want to keep an eye on Bob's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I think MSP000 may be onto something here. If TMU are charging 'album prices' then Hypnagogic States must BE an album - therefore, once 4:13 Dream is released The Cure will have fulfilled their 3 album obligation.

  132. Just as an update to all UK COFers Play.com is selling the e.p at a much more reasonable £4.99.

HMV is selling at an incredible £2.99. Roughly the same as the singles.

*Puts on French accent* That works out at about $10 and $6 Respectively. Much better than iTunes.

    ReplyDelete
  133. *Waves back*

I think you are onto something there Elise.

    ReplyDelete
  134. please come home should have been on the self titled instead of the promise.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Please Come Home should have replaced Never. Never is one of the worst tracks on any Cure album ever IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  136. andrew: or never. good call. maybe both?

    ReplyDelete
  137. The Promise never gets any respect! I love that track, especially live.

    ReplyDelete
  138. *waves at Andrew*

Isn't life grand in the Land of Wishful Thinking - where Please Come Home WAS actually in the Self Titled album (replacing Never) and 4:13 Dream is hailed by all (including critics) as the BEST.ALBUM.EVA.

*wonders whether sleep deprivation really does affect the mind*

    ReplyDelete
  139. i never heard it live, but i take cat's word for it on the power it wields. on the album, it's just an overlong, boring joke. i always smirk and get embarrassed at robert's first howl.

    ReplyDelete
  140. MB - I have to say, I love the live version of The Promise - and do not dislike it as a song. For me there are worse Cure songs than The Promise.

  141. Promise haters watch this, then!:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFn3EtTA11Y

I always was into proggy, guitar-wank stuff though. Your mileage may vary ;)

    ReplyDelete
  142. I like The Promise although I do understand why it grates some people up.

It's been said a 1000 times but I think the albums flaws come from the track selection not the music.

    ReplyDelete
  143. *curses her work firewalls.... again*

Marc, thanks for the link, but I won't be able to watch this until I get home (which is at least another 10 hours away :( )

    ReplyDelete
  144. hiiiiiiii elise!

and who says 'never' is the worst song ever? NUMB is the worst song ever! let's box!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Sofia - gotta love an Arrested Development reference!

"Yes... but where did the lighter fluid come from?"

    ReplyDelete
  146. Sofia - I see your Numb and raise you a Round&Round&Round.

    ReplyDelete
  147. MB - You like R&R&R.... really?
It is a track that I always skip - that and Club America. And yet, there are a number of tracks from WMS that I do like - so I would never entirely bag the album.

Again, it goes down to what Andrew said before - it all comes down to track listing selection.

    ReplyDelete
  148. r&r&r actually sounds like a cure song to me...the cute little guitar/marimba/whatever solo just kills me. i've always liked it.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Oh no! Now I have R&R&R running R&R&R in my head!!

*reaches for headphones and selects Please Come Home* ahhh - that's better

    ReplyDelete
  150. god, im dying, i need to hear those songs!! and is it really true that Richard Wright is dead?? i can't believe it!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  151. Guess that's why the Floyd reunion tour never happened. Poor old Wrighty was very ill.

    ReplyDelete
  152. for amazon canada is 3.99$ for this single.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Andrew127 said it. Who do you suppose has the final say on track listings? Robert or the record company?

The last three albums have been lessened by poor track choices. This also coincides with the departure of Thompson and Williams.

Now that Porl is back we might get a decent track list!

    ReplyDelete
  154. et enpassant les insultes sont pas admis ici n'ais pas ??surtout pour les français

    ReplyDelete
  155. Ok enough debating about Hypnagogic being a rip off on itunes Robert! Just release the info about the new album....lord its due in 40 if you live outside the US and 41 if you do.....should be some info by now! Get those punters frothing at the gills for the new material!

Universal sucks the big kumera (sweet potato) we know....now set it aside and unleash the treats!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Calm down Alastair. :)

He did say once Hypnagogic States was born there would be some more news. Technically, it's birthday is tomorrow in the states. Long, painful labor if you ask me. :p

    (hopes rsx posts soon!)

    ReplyDelete
  157. Hypnagogic States wasn't born so much as it was spat out :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. I have to add a very strong vote for the brilliance of The Promise. It's without doubt my favorite song on The Cure. I listen to it constantly. I know every wah-wah pedal line by heart. The Promise and Lost are the two best tracks on that album, in my opinion.

If you want to replace a song on the self-titled disk, replace (I Don't Know What's Going) On or Taking Off. Those were horrible.

And speaking of horrible, I have to say that I can't stand Hypnagogic States. The 65DOS remix is decent. The others aren't worth a nickel. I actually deleted them. I never want to hear them again.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I like Taking Off.

The Promise is a really good song, I love the intro.......but it's too long. They needed to cut it in half.

    ReplyDelete
  160. The EP is now up in the US iTunes Store, with the bonus track, for $3.99.

    Robert Wins!

  161. Do you realize that when I search for "Please Come Home" in my WMP library I get "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" by the Smiths right after it.

And When I search for "Without You" I get "With or Without You" by U2 right after it.

LOL - I just thought it was ironic that two of the artists RSX despises the most come up with a simple search of new Cure songs in my library. Can't help it, I'm a child of the 80's.

    ReplyDelete
  162. And further.......when searching for "The Promise"

    I get two matches:

    1 from The Cure
    1 from When in Rome

    ReplyDelete
  163. Okay, lol, I have to add to this tense intellectual discussion: The Promise is one overly long boring song, that wants to be epic, but fails admirably. So sad that it ends most THE CURE albums out there, instead of Going Nowhere.

Never, on the other end, I do find interesting. While not a very good song in itself, it is so away from what The Cure usually does that it's like a statement in itself. Like The Cure saying: see? We can also play what everybody else plays out there. In this respect, it's a unique Cure song, and yeah, I respect it for that.

    ...yea I went there.

    ReplyDelete
  164. my brain has convinced me that the name of the band actually is 65DOS.

    ReplyDelete

    Robert Wins!”

It looks as though Robert’s only able to "win" for the USA for the moment? I don’t think the price has changed at any of the other iTunes “Stores”.

  169. Monkey- I like being helpful.

    cunny-
    (Adult / Slang)
The vagina; a euphemism for cunt.
Etymology: British coinage of the 17 th century derived from: a) a diminutive of cunt, b) the Latin cunnus , the external female geitals, c) from coney / cony, once a common name for a rabbit. See vagina for synonyms.

Quote: Thomas D'Urfey, Wit and Mirth (1719): ' All my delight is a cunny in the night / When she turns up her silver hair.'
