CDJapan lies! L.I.E.S....

Robert sets the record straight (again!) at the official site, and hints at ?

190908 UPDATE:

I WROTE "IT WILL BE THE SAME EVERYWHERE (AAAAAH... JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS?!!)" AND IT WILL!

13 TRACKS (54:32?) E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E...ON CD, VINYL AND ONLINE

(ALTHOUGH SOMETHING OF A PROBLEM WITH THE VINYL ART AT PRESENT AS IT APPEARS TMU'S FAVOURED PRINTERS 'CAN'T PRINT COLOUR INSIDE BAGS'...LEADING ME TO WONDER WHY THEY WOULD BE A RECORD COMPANY'S FAVOURED PRINTERS... ??? ANYWAY... )

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ONLINE RETAILERS SUGGESTING VARIOUS OTHER VERSIONS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE...

BUT THEY ARE MISINFORMED! AND I AM HOPING THAT (GIVEN THE USUAL FEW WEEKS) THEY WILL REMOVE THEIR ERRONEOUS SUGGESTIONS...

REST ASSURED THEY ARE BEING PRESSURED TO GET IT RIGHT...THIS JUST IN FROM TMU: Our Japan office confirms that they have told their contacts that there is just the one tracklisting for the album and have asked for incorrect info to be expeditiously removed.

AND NEXT UP IS...

Thank you Robert!

Update: Wow, that was quick! CDJapan has removed the "Deluxe Edition". And for some reason, they've removed the "Regular Edition", too. Amazon (Japan) has removed it, too.

  1. thanks for clearing this up, craig...i wasn't sure if i would have to buy that version or not, now i think i'll just stick with the CD and vinyl versions

    ReplyDelete
  2. robert - unless those vinyls are printed in color, i ain't buying. please fix this. or i will despair.

    ReplyDelete
  3. How many other ways will TMU find to mess things up? Ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  4. and craig - i don't care that robert has "set the record straight". if only he would RELEASE the damn record.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Robert is so fucking cool for keeping us informed.

  6. T.H.A.N.K Y.O.U R.O.B.E.R.T! :D

    (Sorry, I can't help it!)

  7. I'm afraid it's not CDJapan's fault but Universal Japan. I should say UJ's information regarding The Cure is mostly not reliable. They don't care much about The Cure. That's why I always come here to check new information. COF is the best.

  8. 54 min and 32 seconds, cool!
But far from the 80min once officially rumoured :)

  9. I'm loving this! TMU are such a miserable shower!

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at RS's meetings with company reps at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm sure he would be spelling every word so it's clear that T.M.U. U.N.D.E.R.S.T.A.N.D.S it all, for good!
    :P

  11. "I'm sure he would be spelling every word so it's clear that T.M.U. U.N.D.E.R.S.T.A.N.D.S it all, for good!"

Haha I've got images of Robert standing with a flip chart in a boardroom now; "The disc will have T.H.I.R.T.E.E.N. tracks (flips chart to reveal the number "13") all over the W.O.R.L.D. (flips chart to picture of globe)"

  14. T.H.A.N.K Y.O.U R.O.B.E.R.T

You are now firmly in control!

Can't print colour - sounds like another great TMU F*ck up! (but please not another F****** delay) (That's using Robert's language not mine!)

Craig - I don't see the hint? Or the halloween surprise - please elaborate!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would say the hint is that RS is expecting some more fuck ups soon, so he is actually setting himself up for an update in the very near future?

  16. It's not unusual for the Japanese CDs to have bonus tracks (it's unusual that they don't actually), this is why all the major sellers thought it could/would be this way - but how they got the number of extra tracks is beyond me, though. The Japanese editions can be more expensive than imported ones for several reasons, including because the record company has to print special covers for the localized Japanese editions, hence they add a few bonus tracks to sort of "alliviate" the extra price.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also there are other bizarre reasons for the extra price though:

  18. He's not saying they can't print the album in colour. He's saying they can't print colour on the inside of the bag... I'm assuming he means the plastic sleeve for each record, or a sleeve that the whole LP will fit into. Sounds like issues with screenprinting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I wonder if other recording artists have this much trouble with their label?

    ReplyDelete
  20. lol TMU seems to be going the extra mile to displease Robert... there's a war a-brewing!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think that there is a war brewing. These public outbursts directed towards TMU are proof something is in the offing.

If Robert can prove breach of contract than he can get out of the deal and release his records through the website, a la Nine Inch Nails. Makes much more sense these days.

    ReplyDelete
  22. thank god we're all actually on topic

poor japan. i totally feel for them. they should at least get something extra.

and then U cant even print in coloUr? EPIC FAIL!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love when people don't read what I say. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. As I said before, it's an exciting time to be a Cure fan. Can't wait for TMU vs. RSX. It's already in the preliminaries. *gets hot flashes just thinking about it*

    ReplyDelete
  25. Off topic: DJ, you evil little vixen! Stop winding Cat and start your engine!
Do I make sense? No, but it was my point!
    On topic: nothing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always assumed that the double album was to expedite their way out of their three album deal with Suretone/Geffen/IAM/Universal/SATAN. (It was three, wasn't it?) Double albums do count as two records in a contract.

It's pointless that the Cure have a record deal anymore. It seems that we fans do enough viral marketing for them. Surely they have the resources to do as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have done. Then again, Robert has ten years more in the business than they do, and perhaps he's conditioned into the record label way of life.

I think an autonomous Cure would have more output with both physical product and website output.

The idea of a record label seems so antiquated. Universal is a massive corporation. We've all seen how massive global corporations fuck themselves, and their employess, and their clients. Universal is a drunken behemoth stumbling out of a party that's long since over.

The Cure don't matter to Universal. I bet the head of Universal music would have to google as to whether or not the Cure were part of his roster. The quicker their deal is done, the quicker they can enjoy TRUE artistic freedom. Hopefully they'd flourish and innovate the way that Trent Reznor/ Nine Inch Nails has.

ARRRRRR! Ye best post like a Pirate today!! ARRRRRR

    ReplyDelete
  27. I approve this last post. Ditch TMU as soon as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  28. monkeybutt: You're just jealous of the pirate's devil-may-care ways! Sailing the high seas with nary a care in the world.

    Avast me hearties :)

    ReplyDelete

  32. I like me pirates with a parrot on thi shoulders!
    Arrrrr!

    ReplyDelete
  33. So Blur wrote the song B.L.U.R.E.M.I.

I'm thinking the Cure can bring us C.U.R.E.T.M.U.

A new single, just in time for the holidays perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  34. why have i fallen out of favor with hynreck and his monocle?

    ReplyDelete
  35. obviously robert reed a chain of flower day after day...so robert please if you begin another tour please please play HALO and 2LATE plaeseeeeeeeeeee..... and thank you very much for all.....you are very cool.....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sofia: Because that monocle now smells a little funny?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Poor Robert sounds so frustrated with the label.
I wonder how many albums they have left on their contract?
It sounds like he would love to go a NIN route and just be independent. They certainly have the fan base to sustain it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. marc, oh lawd...i don't even want to know what you're talking about!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sofia - I do care, big hug, here's a monocle for you.

  41. If only someone woudl tell us what's happened to Baby Rag Dog Book and ABINK... Have they been renamed or passed over for the next record or...??? Really need some angry hard rock Cure and hoping BRDB is gonna supply it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sunflies - there is a belief that Baby Rag Dog Book still exists (in the guise of It's Over). But there is no official word on this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you altr2elise!

    Fingers crossed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I was expecting it to go on for over an hour....Can't moan about it though as long as they are a brilliant 54 minutes and 30 seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  45. here is what I have heard:

that there will be a dark album in 2009, and that it will contain abink and brdb, among other tracks.

if that is true, then its over is an entirely different song.

however, the track listing that i saw for the dark album also contained a song called dont say anything - and that, as you may recall, is the original title for freakshow.

too, doesnt brdb have a lyric in it, "it's over"?

if these two latter items are true, then it negates aspects of the dark album.

    ReplyDelete
  46. *waves to pervy elise*

you are brilliant, my tim tamalicious friend!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Clockwise: Was Please Come Home on that track listing?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Elise...38 days it is...but who's counting.

    (Oh, we all are)

    Carry one.

    ReplyDelete
  49. sorry geri - it was five minutes till i had to leave for school and i was rushing! your comments makes loads of sense, silly me!

cat - yeah i think he says its over many times in BRDB i think

*splashes hynreck with cold tea* there, much better. all clean sofia!

elise - thank you for the tim tams my sister has become very AUS patriotic, she waves Orange and CC around when we went out. (Ote has to stay home :(, poor ote) see what youve done? youve created a little monster.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well... so if the record is 54:32 min. long and 13 tracks on it, they're all seem to be between 3-4 minutes, with only Underneath the stars as an opening 6 minute epic track. That doesn't say much about the quality of the songs, I think. If you take Going Nowhere, Without You, The Perfect Boy, There Is No If..., Treasure, Jupiter Crash, A Boy I Never Knew etc... they're all between 3-4 minutes and they're all pretty awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  51. For sure you can't judge the quality of a song by it's length... Sometimes songs runs on too long.
An album that length, who is supposed to be more "upbeat" would fit in the vein of more singing, less instrumental bits... while I do expect that dark album to have more, longer instrumental parts, and slightly less singing...
I don't know if I make sense... wishful thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  52. dj: no problem! :D

I'm sure that it'll get sorted... although I wouldn't be surprised to see a delay on shipment of the vinyl if there's problems at this stage.

    ReplyDelete
  53. i'm watching 'the fly II'. god help me this album better come sooner than later so i can make better use of my time.

*sips cold tea off the top of hynreck's head*

i also agree that it's poor reasoning to judge a song by it's length.
just listen to...uh...well i'm sure there are several amazing songs that are short in length. however, i am heavily sedated this afternoon and can think of none.
    at the moment.
    i'll be back.

    ReplyDelete
  54. oops, craig, did i transgress? heh, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow... I'm pretty impressed by the new self-titled Cranes record. Much better than Cure's self-titled effort. Especially the songs "Worlds", "Wires" and "Invisible" are gorgeous.

  56. *screams at moontear*

    TAKE ME WITH YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Moontear you are so lucky!

    Sofia, i agree. Let's see...

and i also agree on the fact that the open comments of RSX against TMU allow us to hope for a best... cadre, contexte... and more independance later on. Ça sent la chicane dans la cabane...

And then, last night there were many COF nicknames/people in my very weird dream (nothing to do with the delirium post two days ago i swear ;)... so, since i'm crazy, i tought i would just try to write more often.

    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  58. It is a bit odd to imagine UTS and FS on the same album... but then I think of KM and WMS, which were wildly incongruent in styles. And no matter what anyone says about WMS - for me, it works like a charm. I like it even better than KM. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Intersting debate:

Should we consider the "dark" album as a seperate album or more like a part 2 in the repect that both parts make one album?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Both ;)

But I'll always see it as part 2, I guess, since I know all or most of the songs comes from the same session.

What's that Sofia? Are you saying I've got an empty skull? mmm...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well, I had posted some info about the proposed dark album, but Craig erased it, which is fine, of course, given that it's mere speculation. Anyway, it seems like the dark album would be like a dark counterpart/part deux to 4:13 Dream, and possibly contain ABINK and BRDB... or not. Craig, I hope I'm not transgressing COF protocol again...

And off-topic - but for anyone who cares: the new Metallica is actually freakin' awesome. I didn't get St. Anger cuz I heard bits and pieces of it and it didn't appeal to me, but Death Magnetic is slammin' and has shades of Ministry. Ministry was very much influenced by Metallica, btw. Anyway, I'm not a huge metalhead; I just happen to like Metallica and Ministry. :-)

Still can't get enough of EHS... esp. SWID and TPB, and I actually like most of the EP! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  62. What's a fan site without rumor and speculation? As long as sources aren't named I don't see a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I Love Metallica and loved Ministry. Saw Ministry a number of times back in the early 90's. Was into that whole industrial scene with them, Skinny Puppy/Nitzer Ebb/Front 242. Good times!

    ReplyDelete
  64. marc: i saw ministry in 89ish or so... freakin' awesome. i stopped following them at some point but The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste remains one of my favorite albums by any band. i also liked front 242... skinny puppy and nitzer ebb not as much, but my best friend liked them and i agree they had awesome elements to them. ministry released its final album and did their final tour recently, you know.. i considered going but i didn't. should have.

as for the rumor and spec... maybe king craig is just trying to play it safe? it's his site, he can do whatever he likes! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. cat - i cried when i couldnt see ministry. bawled my fucking eyes out.

its worse than not meeting metallica (when you lived like 25 min away) cuz you didnt have a ride

    ReplyDelete
  66. awwwww dj. it sucks that this was the last tour. i haven't kept up with all their stuff in the last years, but i still wish they would stay together. of course paul barker died, but from what i understand he wasn't with the band since 2004? anyway... besides public enemy, ministry was one of the scarier, more intense performances i have ever seen. oh, and i do believe jello biafra was with them as well when i saw them... hot damn how i love that man!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ministry were seriously intense live. I'm sorry that I missed their last tour as well - I kind of lost contact with their music.

I saw a Pigface show years ago that had Jello Biafra in it. Pigface were an industrial supergroup, of sorts, with many members over the years. I think it was started by members of Ministry.

As for the the rumor thing: you're right, of course. I thought that right after I said it. Must be good reason behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I loved Ministry during their early years but their recent albums sound like 45 minutes of absolute, unlistenable noise. I dare anyone to listen to their last album from beginning to end without being inspired to put the barrel of a shotgun in your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I was under the impression that it was a good album. Oh well. At least they had their share of good stuff for a while. All good things must come to an end, I guess. I do like how Ministry and Metallica informed each other. Not sure how reciprocal it was, especially given that Ministry started out more new wavish and turned Inudstrial Metal later. But I am sure Metallica was influenced in some way by Ministry's more metal incarnation.

Anyway, we have veered wildly off topic, thanks to me.

    I miss craig and v antics. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Please Come Home is Robert Smith's best vocal performance in years. Discuss :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. maybe not the best, but one of the best, he sings it really well, like he is really into the song which makes get into the song.. it gets you:)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I've been wondering for a while...

How did The Cure get stuck with the Mighty U in the first place? It's the best deal Robert managed to get or what? I kinda lost track of this "saga"... I believe they were relieved to leave Fiction and Chris Parry behind but do you think they even regret those days??

The Mighty U really seem not to give a shit about The Cure. How long have they signed for? What's the straight dope with that? Anyone knows?

    ReplyDelete
  74. fantac and all cure peeps, i love you so dearly. craig, are you and v doing well? i hope so!

    ReplyDelete
  75. *waves at Fantac*

I don't know 'how' they got sucked into the Mighty U web (maybe something to do with the Geffen deal - but don't quote me on it), but my understanding is they have a 3 album deal.
    1) Self Titled
    2) 4:13 Dream
    3) ????? Hopefully the dark album, by Robert's birthday and then the contract is fulfilled!

    ReplyDelete
  76. *waves at Cat*

Honestly, if I didn't have my CoF peeps to check in with on a regular basis, there would be a huge void in my life!

    GROUP HUG!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. "CDJapan lies! L.I.E.S...." I'm so tired of seeing this headline, need news now.

    ReplyDelete
  78. even if there is a dark album soon after 4:13, i doubt u will release it anytime soon. they'll hold onto it just to piss robert off and probably release it in 2010, citing the old 'we don't want to flood the marketplace' excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  79. 2010? You're being optimistic. I say 2012 at the earliest.

    ReplyDelete
  80. ..which begs the question: If they make another record...and TMU holds onto it for release down the road (2010, 2012, whenever), is their contract fulfilled upon completion of said record...or are they stuck until it gets released?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I don't think that record companies would be able to hold bands to ransom like that. Bands have to make a living - contracts would be thrown out in court if a band's ability to release records was stunted by the record company.

That's just my thought, though. According to my wife I'm wrong a lot :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Pas plus loin que les ouragans que je sache, Eric.

    ReplyDelete
  83. marc is married?? ya learn something new everyday!

what does suretone have to do with Universal by the way? ive seen suretone on all their releases (dvd, cd) since 2004. and the cure are also signed to suretone.

p.s. i bought the perfect boy single today. im super late, but im pooor so i had to save up to buy it. the mastering and mixing sounds off? robert voice sounds compressed or something! like it was mixed high, and it feels squished. like when youre listening to a bootleg and the sound isnt right.. =/. it aint stirred well with the other instruments. i hope the album version is different..

I think it deserves to be considered with their best singles!

  92. Out of subject but in case some of you were going......
Post-rock kings Mogwai have been forced to cancel dates on their tour due to health problems.

Mogwai drummer Martin Bulloch was rushed to hospital following the band's ATP performance in New York last night and the band have been forced to cancel their dates in the US and Canada.

A posting on Mogwai.co.uk reads thus:

We are sad to announce that we have had to cancel our remaining American and Canadian shows due to ill health. Our other dates in Europe and Japan will be going ahead as planned. We will re-schedule the shows in 2009.

    Martin explains what happened:

I was taken into hospital last night almost immediately after the show at ATP. I've been having some problems with my pacemaker for the duration of the tour and it unfortunately culminated in me being sent to the emergency room. The doctors there initially thought I would have to have corrective surgery at a larger hospital nearer NYC but I have been given the all clear to travel home on the understanding that I go straight to my cardiologist on arrival back in Scotland.

To be honest, I'm really bummed about having to go home and feel for the folk who had bought tickets for our upcoming shows but i can honestly say it would be almost impossible for me to carry on at this point as my pacemaker has broken skin and the surrounding area has become infected.

  102. Yes MB, all that and more.
At the very least... a shoulder rub or something.

  114. Anyway, guys, for all who could read, don't mind this, I'm sorry to have stood to that level and promise not to bring this behavior (for my part, can't vouch for eric AT ALL) back to cof again.
For all who couldn't read or understand, all the better for you. Quite frankly.

  124. I love Robert's Rants. Wonder if he'll have any more in the upcoming weeks when the album comes out. Knowing TMU, it most likely will happen again! Get away far away from them Robert when you can!
