Ideal Copy responds to Robert

"The first single, The Only One, was originally solicited to come with a collector's box that would house all 4 of the singles. Robert "ALL CAPS" Smith vehemently denies that this will happen in this post copied from The Cure's official website:
THERE IS A "SPECIAL VERSION OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE" - NO THERE ISN'T. ANYONE THAT OFFERS OR CLAIMS ANY KIND OF "SPECIAL" VERSION OF THE FIRST SINGLE - WITH A BOX OR A FREE HOLIDAY OR WHATEVER - IS EITHER LYING OR STUPID OR BOTH

We weren't the only retailer including information about the collector's box. This information originated from our import supplier who must have gotten it from Universal UK. Our supplier does not make up information like this, in fact, they excel at having too little information. Since other retailers around the world had that same mis-information, it must have come from Universal/Polydor UK. Sorry for the misinformation - now c'mon, lets go grab a pint and get stupid and lie to each other. :) "

  1. Though it may boost sales, no amount of controversy can make a mediocre single sound better.

  2. I wonder if anything should be read into Robert's wording? For each of his items, he refers to "THE FIRST CD SINGLE THE ONLY ONE".
    This makes me wonder:

    A) Does this mean there's not a 7"?

    B) If there is a 7", do these rules not apply to it? Meaning only a box for the 7", but not the cd?

    C) I'm reading way too much into all of this? : )

  3. Robert never makes any sense. Whenever he comments on something it's like trying to decipher the squeals of a demented circus monkey. He needs an interpreter. Remember when he said something like, "I hate it when people big up their music"? Huh? What?

  4. Good for Ideal Copy for responding, and quite humorously, too. Now, Robert should ask Universal UK and Best Buy what the heck is going on or have Geffen do so.

jpx, Robert is a heck of a lot easier to understand than Thom Yorke, though. That's really obscure stuff.

  5. Good point, muldfeld. Why the hell does this have to be so complicated?

  6. JPX - How dare you insult demented circus monkeys like that? At least they would have the sense to turn off the freaking CAPS LOCK key. Or get it fixed or whatever he said the problem with it is. Maybe he just loves to e-shout. : )

  7. Muld - I of course meant fraking, not freaking. : )

  8. I bet a demented circus monkey would get his album out sooner...

  11. I love Demented Circus Monkey Bob. I truly do. I love trying to deconstruct his angry coded messages. I love the vehement locked caps. LOVE THEM. I adore when he's all in a feisty fury and he makes his posts look like academic outlines with A) B) 1. 2. etc.

  12. Please no more monkeys! I'm still recovering from the monkey crap of the CoF poll a few months ago (Cure touring Africa - gorillas climbing down trees, remember?)

Would it be plausible for commercial reasons to anounce a single box just after single #4 has been released. Us fools will just have bought all 4 singles and find out that a 4 single box is being released sept. 14th with one extra obscure hidden track (mix 14 or whatever).

Why is it so hard for the cure to publish good uncompromising music like NIN or sonic youth.

    Time for a banana now!

  14. Locust,

    God. Good point.

I've always thought of The Cure as a band who cut through the shit. Release good music, regularly, without a lot of noise. It's taken them 30 years. Hell, every other band in the world starts with this crap. The Cure, after all this time, have started playing games.

Once passion and creativity are gone, all you can do is milk your successes. Are The Cure finally becoming puppets?

  15. aw crud - please don't make this into a fight. it's not a fight. Online Indie Music Retailer is hard enough without misinformation and miscommunication between labels, bands, and distibuters. I'm just a simple caveman and I don't understand this whole interwebnet and its speculation. I'm sure we'll all share a pint of Tetley's and laugh about this later.

  16. A simple caveman? Oh, dear, now you're going to bring down the wrath of the Geico cavemen. :P

  17. Oh no, there will be no collector's box? How come? :-(
I wonder why there is a lot of confusion like this going on aroung The Cure lately?

Oh well, even though the new CDs won't come along with the box, I won't cancel my order cuz I need to import them anyway.

  18. i KNOW this is off topic, but has anybody listened to the new song on mogwai's myspace page?

    http://www.myspace.com/mogwai

i've always thought of mogwai as my modern "cure." and 'dracula family' is SUCH a beautiful song! don't get me wrong, i love the cure and the new single and i can't wait to see them on 5.31, but this new mogwai song is amAZing!

  19. junko, why do you NEED the import cds?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi, shawn-w! I need to buy either UK or US singles cuz there will be no Japanese version to be released. Usually, Universal Japan never realeases singles of The Cure, only their albums.

  21. "Robert "ALL CAPS" Smith"

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that absolutely hilarious?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi monkeybutt. Listening to the Mogwai song now. I do love Mogwai, especially after seeing them so many times at Curiosa. Happy Songs for Happy People is a masterpiece. Mr. Beast is good, but not great, IMO.

Back on topic: Hello Mr. Ideal Copy Dude. I don't know what Tetley's is, but I'll clink glasses of Sweetwater IPA with you!

  23. Good grief, everyone's panties get in such a twist around here. Why does everyone get so angry because it's taken the Cure a couple of years to put out a new album? It's always taken them this long, and before it was always predicated by a "we're breaking up and never making another album." They've been releasing more stuff in the past 4 years than ever before and still people bitch and moan. When was the last time you released an album? How long did it take you? Let's see, since 2004, the Cure have not only released a great album, but they also released a 4-disc set of b-sides, wrote a theme song for a cartoon, released 3 singles (more than from Bloodflowers, mind you), released 8 double disc remasters, a live DVD and a tribute to John Lennon (and that doesn't even count any of Robert's side project contributions!). So calm down, give Robert "ALL CAPS" Smith a break and join our IdealCopy mate for a pint. the album will be out soon enough and so will the new singles and b-sides!

  24. misnomer, it HASN'T always been this way.

    1979 - TIB
    1980 - SS and BDC
    1981 - Faith and HEA
    1982 - Porn
    1983 - JW
    1984 - Top
    1985 - THOTD
    1987 - KMKMKM
    1989 - Disint.

    Now begins the real slowdown...

    1992 - Wish
    1996 - WMS
    2000 - BF
    2004 - TC
    2008 (hopefully :P) - "13"

    Notice something there?

  25. Is it lack of motivation/creative emotion?

  26. Craigers, I actually like that he posts in capslock form. There are so many posts (especially nonsensical ones), that it makes it catches the eye.

You really must tell me when you got into the show, though. I say "frak" all the time now. (People don't think I'm vulgar, just crazy) :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Shawn-W, you are absolutely right that it hasn't ALWAYS been that way, but it's been that way for the past (nearly) 20 years! Also, there was no forum for people to complain about it back when it took nearly 4 years for Wish to come out... and where I grew up, nobody cared except me and two other people, and it's hard to continuously complain about the lack of new material to just two other people :)
