Indieville responds to Robert

"Polydor have shelved plans for the collectors box . But I do take offence to Robert Smiths outburst, I have the sales notes and proof from Polydor / Geffen Records that they were intending to issue the first single with a collectors box for both formats and this was shelved as late as last Thursday 1st May . So it just goes to show that Mr Smith ( Bless him !! ) has no idea what his own record label is doing and to say someone is lying or stupid for selling this is bang out of order . If I were Mr Smith I would be having words !!! I have a good mind to post this message up on the Cures Forum page !!"

Ideal Copy responds to Robert

"The first single, The Only One, was originally solicited to come with a collector's box that would house all 4 of the singles. Robert "ALL CAPS" Smith vehemently denies that this will happen in this post copied from The Cure's official website:
THERE IS A "SPECIAL VERSION OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE" - NO THERE ISN'T. ANYONE THAT OFFERS OR CLAIMS ANY KIND OF "SPECIAL" VERSION OF THE FIRST SINGLE - WITH A BOX OR A FREE HOLIDAY OR WHATEVER - IS EITHER LYING OR STUPID OR BOTH

We weren't the only retailer including information about the collector's box. This information originated from our import supplier who must have gotten it from Universal UK. Our supplier does not make up information like this, in fact, they excel at having too little information. Since other retailers around the world had that same mis-information, it must have come from Universal/Polydor UK. Sorry for the misinformation - now c'mon, lets go grab a pint and get stupid and lie to each other. :) "

Cameras allowed at Fairfax/D.C. show

"I just wanted to pass on that i had sent an email to the GMU Patriot center question forum after having read that camera's are not always prohibited , It depends on the Artist. I received this response in regards to the email sent. Just wanted to pass along and hope to see everyone there. "

THE MAJOR CONFUSION
5/7/2008 1:45:12 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

A FEW OF THE MORE IRRITATING FALSEHOODS FLOATING AROUND...

1) "THERE IS A "SPECIAL VERSION" OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""
NO THERE ISN'T
ANYONE THAT OFFERS OR CLAIMS ANY KIND OF "SPECIAL" VERSION OF THE FIRST SINGLE - WITH A BOX OR A FREE HOLIDAY OR WHATEVER - IS EITHER LYING OR STUPID OR BOTH

2)"THERE IS NO USA VERSION OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""
YES THERE IS
ITS JUST THE MIGHTY UNIVERSAL CANT GET IT TOGETHER TO EITHER
A) GET AMAZON ETC TO LIST IT
OR
B) GET IT OUT ON THE 13TH... IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT $2.99 (OR THEREABOUTS) FROM MAY 20TH

APPARENTLY "NO-ONE BUYS CD'S ANYMORE"...
UNSURPRISING IF THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE EH?!!

3) "X,Y OR Z HAVE 'EXCLUSIVE X,Y OR Z' REGARDING THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""

NO THEY DON'T
IT WILL BE AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE
IT IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO ANY RETAILER

AND...

NO...
THATS IT FOR NOW!

BUT I AM SURE I WILL BE BACK..

RSX

Only One exclusive at Best Buy?

Best Buy has a listing for "Cure One Single - CD". Releasing on May 20th for $2.99 and says it's a BB exclusive. No idea what the exclusive is, maybe the box? An extra track?
They also have the import (I guess) cd listed for $9.99.
(Thanks Zach)

Update: The "Best Buy Exclusive" bit has been removed.

The Only One lyrics

The Only One (Mix 13) - 3:57

Oh I love, Oh I love, Oh I love
What you do to my head
When you pull me upstairs
And you push me to bed
I love what you do to my head
It’s a mess up there!

Oh I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to my heart
When you push me back down
And it pulls me apart
I love what you do to my heart
It’s the best, oh yeah!

Oh I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to my lips
When you shut? me inside
And you blow me a kiss
I love what you do to my lips
It’s so sweet in there

Oh I love, love, love, love
What you do to my hips
When you blow? me outside
And then suck? me like this
I love what you do to my hips
It’s the ???, oh yeah!

You’re the only one I’d cry for
The only one I’d try to please
You’re the only one I’d sigh for
The only one I’d die to squeeze
And it gets better everyday, I play
With you it’s such a scream
Yeah it gets better everyday, I say
and with you it’s so extreme
Yeah it gets wetter everyday, I say
With you it’s like a dream

Oh I love, Oh I love, Oh I love
What you do to my skin
Please slip me on
And slide me in
I love what you do to my skin
It’s a ????? oh yeah

Oh I love, love, love, love
What you do to my bones
When you slide me up
And slip me home
I love what you do to my bones
It’s the ??? oh yeah

You’re the only one I’d cry for
The only one I’d try to please
You’re the only one I’d sigh for
The only one I’d die to squeeze
And it gets hazier anyway, I sway
With you it’s such a scream
Yeah it gets mazier every play, I say
With you it’s so extreme
Yeah it gets crazier everyday, I say
With you it’s like a dream

Oh I love, Oh I love, I love
What you do to me

NY Trip lyrics

This is a very rough first draft, filled with mistakes. Started out thinking this was average. After 10-15 plays though, I think I love it. And there is a bit of piano too. : )

NY Trip - 3:38

"One by one they drop" you said
"Left us two on a ride stopped dead..."
"It's monkeys on the track
All fell out of their tree...
Lost their tails" I said
"In the deep dark sea..."

So take me on the ice and push me around
And every time I fall I kiss the ground
You skate on by without a sound
Yeah I'm in love with you cold
Any warmer and I drown

Whatever you want, whatever you need
Oh anything at all, I'm only here to please you
In any way I can, there's really nothing in the world
I won't do to get a New York Disney smile from you

Ow! You're so beautiful it hurts
Ow!The most beautiful girl I ever...
Ow! Too beautiful for words
Now please! Inside beside me
And let's take on the world

"One by one they drop" you said
"Left us two on a ride stopped dead..."
"It's hard to be sure, but I swear they're whales
Swimming down the line, spitting monkey tails

So drag me on the floor, and get me to twirl
And every twist around, I buss you first
You spin right through, a perfect blur
Yeah, I'm in love with you quick
Any slower and I burst

Whatever you want, whatever you need
Yeah anything at all, I'm only here to please
In any way I can, there's really nothing
I won't do to get a New York Disney smile from you

Ow! You're so beautiful it hurts
Ow! The most beautiful girl I ever...
Ow! Too beautiful for words
Now please! Inside beside me
And let's take on the world

"One by one they drop" you said
"Left us two on a ride stopped dead..."
"It's vultures on the rail and they're packed down tight
Best get close" I said
"This could take all night..."

Robert gets his Ultras ready for the tour

Only One out early!

"Was at HMV here in Manchester on Market ST and they have put the CD single on the shelves! No special box though...
NY Trip has a lot of funky Porl guitar, quite pop..."
(Thanks Steeve)

Lol and Michael Dempsey on TV

From PR-Canada:

L.A. TV Show Lands Exclusive Episodes with Original Members of The Cure

One of the most influential and successful musical groups of the past 30 years is without a doubt The Cure. Since 1978 they have sold over 27 million units worldwide and have accumulated 40 platinum and gold records. Two of The Cure’s co-founding members Laurence (“Lol”) Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey will be taping extremely rare appearances on the Los Angeles-based television show “Focus in the Mix with Denise Ames” together Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 at AMGA Studios and the media is invited to this historic event.

During their teenage years in England Tolhurst, Dempsey and Robert Smith played under a few different names before deciding on “The Cure” (named after a song Tolhurst wrote). The trio recorded the masterpiece album “Boys Don’t Cry” (spawning “Killing an Arab”, “Jumping Someone Else’s Train”, “Fire In Cairo”), wildly popular in the alternative music community. After Dempsey left to play with other big acts like Roxy Music, Tolhurst and Smith forged on to co-write many more of the band’s hits (“Let’s Go To Bed, “The Walk”, “The Caterpillar”), the genius album “Pornography” etc, putting them at Superstar Status still in heavy rotation on both alternative and main stream radio airwaves to this day.

Tolhurst has relocated to Los Angeles; Dempsey is visiting So Cal (from London) to collaborate with his former band mate. Both will be setting the record straight on back stories not often told including the disarming of the original members, during their exclusive and extremely rare on-camera, three-part interview that they chose to allow the “Focus in the Mix with Denise Ames” TV show host conduct. Very rare early photos of the band, obscure recordings as well as new material with other music groups will all be included along with their plans for the near future (Smith and Tolhurst are communicating again, much to the delight of the millions of Cure fans out there).

All Celebrity call times for Tuesday, May 6th:
Yvette Lopez/Playboy model: 12pm – 1pm; Daisy/Vh1’s Rock of Love II: 1pm – 2pm;
Laurence Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey/original members of The Cure: 2pm-4:30pm.

NIN releases 2nd album in 2 months!

Un-freaking-believable! The rumors were true. Nine Inch Nails has just released another album - The Slip. And they're giving this one away for free.
So in 2 months they have released a 36 track instrumental album and now a 10 track album. Fantastic!

Amazon (US) now has the 'Only One' cd single up for pre-ordering. $9.98 for the UK import. Still no sign of a domestic US single.

Pitchfork

ContactMusic
IGN
Yahoo Music
Digital Spy
NME

Undercover (read this one, it's good)

Spin ("makeup-caked Britpoppers")
The West Australian

Finally! Official singles announcement

Check thecure.com. Finally updated with a press release about the singles. And some new info on the second single - it will be 'Freakshow' with 'All Kinds of Stuff' as the b-side. Strange that there is no mention of the release formats or the collector boxes (not true?). And even stranger, the official list of tour dates makes no mention of the May 28th show in San Jose (don't worry, probably just a mistake).

Update: There's a countdown clock and a sample of 'The Only One' on the front page of thecure.com. Also, Robert says he hopes that the new website will be up on May 13th.

Porl gets a custom PT Fastback

Another deal on the singles?

"I just heard from recordstore.co.uk and they said that it is highly likely that they will offer bundle deals on the Cure singles. Meaning a special low price for the CD, 7", and digital download. They do this quite a bit for UK singles. Even with the shipping charges they usually end up being cheaper than buying the singles in the US."
(Thanks John)

13 is NOT confirmed

Just want to clarify something in the Ideal Copy e-mail below. '13' has not been confirmed as the title of the new album.

Update: Here's the latest from Chris - "LeAnn got the info from our main import supplier. Here is the exact text:

"Brand new single 'THE ONLY ONE' which is a slice of pop Cure pop not seen since the late 90's. It is taken from the bands new double album to be released in September called '13'. This single will be the 1st of four collectable singles released prior to the album. All formats will be limited collectors editions. The Cure start the leg of the World tour in the USA on the 9th May."

I assumed that this is information supplied by Universal to the importer. but that may be an incorrect assumption?"
(Thanks to Chris @ Ideal Copy)
