Robert dedicated 'Shake Dog Shake' to Andy

From Andy Anderson on Facebook: "Robert Smith, had dedicated Shake Dog Shake, to me, at the RAH on Saturday night, I didn't hear him say it, because I was sitting halfway back in the Box (my choice, so I could take some photo's) but the folks I was with, told me. I'm very honoured by that big time, and always will be. I met Robert after the show, for a quick chat, and it was like no time had passed between us at all." See/hear it here.

  1. Would be interesting if he brought him along for the next set of Trilogy shows. Then again, I don't see him doing that for every set as Porl would have to return and it's been too recent.

    1. Well I can pretty much give you a 100% guarantee that Porl won't be coming back. Pearl? Don't know, but it seems pretty unlikely.

    2. Yes, yes. I know his name is Pearl now, it's just hard to refer him as that. I'll have to remember. He's been Porl for so long to us, and even before that or "legally" he was Paul. :)

  2. Good to see Andy getting some love. Putting aside any critique of other Cure drummers, Andy's playing on The Top is genuinely absolutely stunning.

  3. Charlotte Sometimes on the cure live in concert is amazing !! Best version ever. Mainly because of the drums.

  4. to me he was the best drummer ever in The Cure, but I do like Jason a lot too

  5. I don't think any drummer has played One Hundred Years live better than Andy Anderson.

  7. I much prefer the live version of this than the studio ...

  8. When Jason joined the Cure I listened with a very critical ear. I admittedly haven't listened to live cuts for several years. When I listen back to the last couple of years the Cure live, I'm very impressed with how Jason sounds now. I love Boris, but I'm now definitely into Jason's drumming now.

It's nice to see Andy Anderson back around. I'm thinking someday we will see more cameo's from past members.

    1. I'm with you, Jesse. I'm also very impressed with how Jason sounds now. For me SDS is better live ... period ... with Orange being the ultimate version.

    2. I've been listening and watching regularly. I can say Jason made a change last summer before they played festivals through Europe. He doesn't sound or even look lazy anymore. Specifically, he needs to be able to play a 16 beat hi hat without shuffling the beat. This was always the biggest issue for me, as songs like One Hundred Years should not shuffle. Boris was a master at it, which doesn't help Jason out either! Andy Anderson, was also a master at the 16 beat. Jason is certainly getting there, but I still hear the shuffle on Disintegration and until that stops entirely I still see room for improvement.

    3. I'll add at least Jason stopped using that "pat pat pat" piccolo snare drum that was no good on anything heavy, like, most of the Cure's material. I wanted to roll that thing out into traffic.

    4. Scott is able to speak about this from a standpoint of technical knowledge.

  9. Robert said "If he's here, this is for Andy". I remember wondering who he meant at the time, then later it clicked, knowing Andy A. was there. :)

  12. It appears that this is the first time that Robert and Andy met since Andy was fired in Japan in 1984?!? 30 years later!

  13. One could only hope Boris would make a return for the Trilogy/reunion shows.

Robert is too stubborn to allow for it, I bet. It would become very obvious he's been with the wrong drummer for a very long time now.

And, yes, I think Jason is a good drummer. Just not in the Cure.

There's a reason the band generally stopped making the caliber of music it used to after Boris departed. They never recovered, and Robert was probably too stubborn to ask him back.

    And now it's too late...

  14. I always thought Andy's drumming was glossed over too much, like a footnote..

  15. Andy performed stupendously on The LoveCats and its B-sides, The Top, Concert (The Cure Live), and Blue Sunshine by The Glove. The best drums I ever heard on Play For Today were by Andy on a bootleg I used to have from 1984 from I believe Milan, Italy. Good to see some recognition of him again and hoping he can at least play on the next Reflections tour (and maybe bring his congas along for The Caterpillar). I'd also be interested in hearing his take on Boris/Jason material.

And, Pearl to me is still Porl.
