What's Tim Pope up to now?

  1. Archival Storage???

If those are 1,000ft reels, that would be 132 minutes of film right there...

I bet getting "Orange" to digital is million dollar - plus project...

  2. I thought it was already a work in progress...

  3. work in progress means : pre-production, finding who is interested in releasing it via their company (you don't buy Dvd straight from the hands of RS) , understand who's going to take care of the remastering, who's attached to the project, and a lot of bureaucracy stuff about copyrights.
so, it was already a work in progress !

    1. Exactly. And it's going to be a while before we see the end result, so don't expect any sort of DVD/Blu-ray release next week. :)

    2. Nice to see progress, and Tim Pope involved! Director's Cuts are always pretty sweet :)

    3. Well it's not that long since he rediscovered the films, or so he says, so i guess yes, i was just a little impatient.

  5. hmmm... was there any tracks not released in the current cut of the film that might see the light of day? I vaguely remember hearing that there was an early version of why can't i be you performed... but that may not be the most accurate memory.

    1. Nope. I think that we got everything that they played, at least according to cure-concerts.de.

  6. Exciting either way or the other. I love this film. I want it on DVD. Blu, Red, Green, otherwise. Charlotte Sinking Faith in Between Three Primary Piggies. Yeah.

  8. Very cool. I don't know half these bands for whom he's made videos, but it's interesting stuff. Pope seems like such a wonderful, non-macho, soft guy. Thanks.

  9. Holy smokes I sure hope we get a nice bluray of this mixed in DTS... and if you are listening Robert, take the solo from a strange day where the lights are spinning, and make the solo spin around all the speakers. PLEASE.

  10. I hope some of the previously mentioned projects have been or will be given a rethink, giving how many years have passed since some were mentioned.

The 30th Anniversary DVD seems to have been abandoned for good, at least in its original concept. I personally think the various promo-video collections are outdated and aren't consistent (i.e. Galore sadly abandoned the home-movie clips between songs). As we've quite possibly seen the last Cure video (and single even, I don't see the point in future Cure singles anymore) how about a digital remaster of all the videos, get them on one compilation and between the videos include relevant/era-relevant interview footage from the abandoned 30th DVD?

Problem now is The Cure have been through different labels from 2004 onwards and no label at the moment. I suspect this has been the cause of many of the 'recently' mentioned projects having been abandoned, as there are multiple labels to work with in reaching agreements over releases that would include material from both pre and post 'The Cure' and 4:13 Dream. I know they put Bestival out on cd, but something tells me video may not be so simple.

All these DVD projects can't have all been abandoned on a whim. When you think, there must have been some BIG money put up by Robert, The Cure and/or record labels over the last 8 years or so to film various concerts and interviews etc. These things have to be run like a business, nobody throws money away without reason, there have to have been problems trying to arrange various releases.

Maybe they think new product won't recoup the costs spent so far. Maybe everything was abandoned before spending double/tripled/more in editing/post-production onwards. Maybe this is why In Orange may be the next and last DVD/Bluray release The Cure ever release...

  11. Hopefully the cans have remained in good condition after all this time and not just being unearthed after being found rotting away in an old basement somewhere. If the film is fine it will be just a matter of time before this is rereleased in beautiful HD. I remember Robert Smith wanting to somehow rerelease In Orange as far as 2006/2007 on one of his cryptic posts in the band's official website... he also mentioned back then a BBC/Peel sessions box st so let's just wait and see... and last but not least... the cure reflections promised release...
