The Cure and Me

Jason Eaton shares his story of growing up a Cure fan. Memories sparked by the 'Reflections' shows. Wonderful! (Thanks Jason)

I've also been meaning to post this, and Walter's recent meeting with Robert has reminded me of it: "I've got a nice Cure story that happens to me during the Dream Tour and would like to share it. It's been 10 years now but I just found the video that I sent to Robert without answer...yet. It was made from a popular soccer TV show that talks about how the supporters are fans of their teams and so on, but I added another idea...hope you like it." (Thanks Walter)

Update: "I just made a radio interview mentioning my story with The Cure and the recent Sydney shows. It's in spanish but as you got lots of spanish readers, thought it can be nice to share. The link is here, and then you have to click on Descargar Emision 193 (31.07.11)." (Thanks Walter)

  5. also- I just read Jason's article and I cannot believe how concisely it hits that EXACT time in my life and in 1987 how Kiss Me changed EVERYTHING. Thank you for posting this Craig- it was awesome to read and I have never read anything that came as close to how I felt about the summer of 1987 when the world became color and I fell in love with the CURE. It reminds as to why I still love them so many years later as an adult. They still mean so much. Thanks also for the diligence you put into this site; it means a lot.

  6. You're very welcome, lola. 1987 was the year I fell in love with The Cure as well, so it resonated with me pretty deeply. I bought the cassettes of Standing on a Beach (with all of the b-sides) and Kiss Me, and that did it. Hooked forever on the greatest band in the world. : )

  7. Hi Craig- i know...I am very nostalgic of that time in my life. I remember it so perfectly. why is that? I have often wondered how something could effect me so profoundly. Maybe because it happened when I happened to be 13. It changed everything, I remember being the girl at the junior high dances that requested that DJ play JLH or WCIBY? or HHH and people actually sat down on the floor and refused to dance when the DJ put the songs on! They wanted Def Leppard or Billy Idol.. That was when I realized that i was not going to end up "fitting in" and that I better find people immediately that shared the "love". Hence, the black and white striped tights that jason mentioned in his post ( i had several pairs) and the people I met from that time on that didn't care what the sheep thought. I have never been the same.

  10. Same here Lola, but I was in 10th grade. 11th grade I did the Robert look alike thing, that kind of changed my life in a selfish way. anyway since 87 till this day, for reasons like Reflections, and the fact they are just bad ass. The Cure are #1 in my book!

  11. @ Carnage Visors: I know you said you remember my step-brother, do you know if you already knew him around that time? It would be ironic if he got you into The Cure too, or if you're the one who got him hooked before he got me into them. :)

  13. Love Jason's Story about the Cure & Walter's video too! I felt the same way about The Cure too but 5 years before that with Let's Go to Bed released late in 1982. I had a friend who worked at a record store and he got me hooked. Wow that was almost 30 year ago and I'm still a fan! LLTC!
