Bernard Sumner on The Cure

"I just wanted to share this article (from the 'Ask Fred' section of the September 2011 edition of Mojo magazine), particularly as it addresses the sophistry perpetuated by the music press that The Cure are merely New Order copyists. There was an accompanying photo of Robert and Lol from 1983 but I considered this superfluous as most fans would have already seen it." (Thanks Dylan)

    i've never really got 'the walk' sounding like 'blue monday' - however 'inbetween days' is very similar to 'love vigilantes'

    on the other side the opening of 'sunrise' is a total rip of 'a forest' and 'crystal' also has taken parts of 'a forest'

    love both bands so this fair play to barny

    The walk was definitely influenced by blue Monday IMO. Yeah very nice words from barny. Hook has said much worse concerning Simon's bass playing style (stance). I'm still not sure who played low like that first...
    Anyway both great bands and, joy division being an influence on the cure as well, is a favorite.

    All the Way's baseline is almost note for note,but saying the whole song is a rip off of jlh is reaching.

    i never got that bluemonday<>thewalk .... aside from the octave jumping, which 1514519756179561379568197561384713815 other synth driven songs also share, they really dont sound alike

    I'VE SAID THIS B4 - MIGHT AS WELL SAY IT AGAIN WITH ALL THIS TALK ABOUT "THE WALK" ETC - DAFT PUNK'S SONG "RINZLER" OFF TRON IS A GOOD COPY OV "THE WALK".

    ANY DJ MIX'D THE TWO YET? WOULD MAKE SENSE. (BUT TODAY'S DJ DON'T MIX 2 OR 3 SONGS (DECKS) TOGETHER TO MAKE NEW TRACKS ANY MORE (PRE-RECORDED MASH UPS ON LAPTOPS ISN'T MIXING).
