sales : 4.13 dream enters at number 8 in France
ReplyDeleteAlready posted that last week.
ReplyDeleteIt's also at number 8 at HMV in stores in the UK.
ReplyDeleteWhich really pleased me, so as far as most people know it's in the UK top ten as the HMV chart is as good as any, right?
That is a lot of charts!
ReplyDeletecraig:
ReplyDeletei've been trying to email you but i haven't gotten a response so hopefully you see this...
(it might be my testy email)
(this is believer_ko, by the way. my livejournal-login isn't working)
i recently did an art project that is cure-centric and i'm really happy with this finished product! i wanted to know if you'd like to put it up on the site. i'd really like to share it with all of you. (because i know you'll all appreciate it!)
i'll give you the url to it:
http://i37.tinypic.com/xknevr.jpg
the instructions for the project were:
you had to draw the numbers 1-5 and fill in the negative space with a theme. after a couple failed themes i decided to do cure album covers! best idea ever! i hope you enjoy. :)
p.s. the medium is prismacolor pencils.
ReplyDeletewtf is a "tastemakers"?

That's good news. Thanks to Robert for his effort.
Thats a whole lot of drops...
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, HMV in the UK is massively cutting the space they have for music to make way for more video games.
Oh, and thats some good art Tara!
ReplyDeleteaw, thank you andrew. :)

"HMV in the UK is massively cutting the space they have for music to make way for more video games" - Well that's just shit isn't it :(
ReplyDeleteOgh: Already posted that info last week. Just a reminder that you can use the search box on the upper left of the page, to check on the other chart postings from last week.
ReplyDeleteWow! Hadn't seen it!

ReplyDeleteOh no it's slipping in some of the charts this week. :( Maybe we should all go out & get another copy?
ReplyDeleteYou know what. I might get kicked in the teeth for posting this here. But if you want to see something that had me nearly bawling like a baby...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4xfMisqab8
Keith Olbermann freaking RULES!!
DA: Perfect. Thank you so much for posting that.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for KO!
and i thought mexico had a big fanbase!
ReplyDeletei made my own 4:13 DREAM.
ReplyDeletei had to.
i think "the real snow white" is awful. i replaced it with "down under" because i love that song and i think it works soooooooooo well after "sirensong."
now i actually like 4:13 DREAM. :)
it sounds so much better w/o that awful snow white song -- worst they have ever done in my opinion. worse than "never" and THAT was BAD!
So, I had pre-ordered my vinyl copy of 4:13 Dream back on October 3. I JUST received an e-mail that the order has shipped...
ReplyDeleteMaybe sales will go up from the delay! Heh.
lol
ReplyDeleteI'm sure vinyl will save the day.
I am just the opposite on Real Snow White. At first I didn’t care much for that song at all. But its really starting to grow on me. I keep on flipping back to that one. Kind of a groovy little song :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't like Snow White at first. But right at the start I knew it would be the one to get stuck in my head the most, so I gave up!
ReplyDeleteI like it now. But all the songs on the album (the new songs) are giving it fierce competition.
I know it's been said before, but I just can't help but repeat these chart numbers are dreadful! Out of the charts, drops almost everywhere on the SECOND week, it's unreal!
ReplyDeleteAC/DC released an album that brings nothing new to the table and it goes to the top of the charts... Two classic bands: one promoted like crazy, one with abysmal promotion. Are we arguing that TMU don't give a damn about The Cure or is it too obvious?
I went to Future Shop today, and AC/DC was playing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was like: what? That's the crap that's been selling so much?
Meanwhile, no Cure cd on sight... but that's a given: Future Shit's got a crappy music selection anyway.
I don't want The Cure to sell like AC/DC or U2 or Springsteen or fucking Justin Timberlake.
ReplyDeleteI like that they get no promotion, I like that they are a little under the radar, I like that Universal is crapping on them.
because
The Cure is our band -- not some dumbass mainstream stay. Let them fall further into obscurity and the happier I am with them.
You know. Maybe I don’t understand the music world very well. But why would TMU choose to have such non-existent promotion for an album, any album, that it stands to make money from. I mean, why even bother to sign a band to your label if you don’t blame to really plan to use them to make you any money? Like I said, I don’t understand the music world, so maybe it isn’t nearly as cut and dry as I like to think it is…
ReplyDeleteThen again, maybe these idiots are trying to punish Robert, because he had the stones to publicly take TMU to task for all the foul-ups, bleeps and blunders they’ve had in recent months. Who knows?
That being said…I still think it was a mistake to release all of the singles and do all of the touring months before the album even came out.
Well, Tim, you'll be happy as 4:13 Dream is falling way under the radar as it is.
ReplyDeleteCure's obscure again.
I think they lost momentum after delaying the album for so long.
ReplyDeleteLet´s remember The Cure had four singles in the US Top 20 at the same time, and the world tour was a huge sucess, but that was months ago.
But as long as The Cure comes to BRAZIL once again, everything will be just fine.......
Hola Tim - you have your wish the Album seems to be becoming a complete flop! shite like Pink and Katie Melua (in the UK anyway) have wiped the floor with it! lets hope The Cure can sell out their big night at the 02 or will that that also make you happy if they don't.
ReplyDeleteI think the 4 singles was a good idea but it didn't work as well as expected in promoting the upcoming album.I beleive there is so much more than we don't know with regards to the album delay/US tour cancelation/non promotion of 4:13.Those charts figures are what they are, and i don't think the band cares too much...Also look at what's in the charts 90pct is cack.
ReplyDeletethat Just Like Heaven tribute album you posted about on October 5th is getting some news at SPIN.com
ReplyDeleteOver the three decades since the Cure formed in the London suburbs of Crawley in 1976, the band has dabbled in many different genres, including reggae, new wave, and goth.
ReplyDeleteReggae?? What am I missing? :)
I'm with you V. If there was some reggae, I missed it as well.
ReplyDeleteBut they've done some fantastic polka, though! :)
V: Maybe they're thinking of that 311 cover of Lovesong?
ReplyDeleteBaby Reggae Dog Book ?
ReplyDeleteDA: I agree - the rendition of "Roll Out the Barrel" that they were playing on the 4Tour was pure polka masterpiece! ;)
ReplyDeleteCraig: I think you're probably right...:) But I'd hardly consider that being The Cure dabbling in reggae. Oh well. They're the music journalists, not me.
Polka King Robert Smithski
ReplyDeleteI'd probably love the Polka Cure sound since I'm Polish! LOL!!! :p
Tim
ReplyDeleteI hope you are kidding about the sell out thing, mass sales do not equate with being a sell out, thats a very narrow way of looking at things. I couldn't care less if everyone in the world loved the band, it wouldnt diminish my love for them, being underground is of no use if you cannot gain traction or income to go on, I am sure the Cure could easily afford to go on for many years now based on past success, but the fact is they need sales and they deserve sales....AC/DC doing so well is annoying - Lord knows why they get promoted so well and The Cure do not.....disgusting.
But as I have mentioned before TMU is planning a bank busting campaign to make Guns N Roses new album a major hit....it would be anyway given the (cough) mystique it has built up, meanwhile millions of sales are lost for one of the Greatest bands in the world....hurumph!
DA - Just watched the video! WOW! When common sense is calmly spoken, it shouts from the rooftops. Beautiful.

I've come to the conclusion that "U" have been focusing all of their resources on their mainstream artists, knowing that they are going to make a killing in profits. It's all about who's going to make them the most money. Why would they give a shit about actual music?
I thought that since the singles sold well, that maybe that was a good sign for the album... I guess not! Although I did find myself listening more to the b-sides.
I think this album may be a little too schizophrenic for your average listener. What trips me out is Italy… how could Hypnogogic States do better?! I guess it’s all about the club music.
Also, I like Keith Olbermann, but I like Rachel Maddow better! *goes to watch right now*
Helsa, I think you're on to something. I imagine TMU thinks of The Cure as an afterthought. Something to look after and deal with when they get a chance...When they get around to it. And their priority would be those superficial acts that make a ton of money but are actually inconsequential.
ReplyDeleteAlso...I usually stick around for Rachel Maddow after Countdown. She's awesome, too. But Keith Olbermann is the best. My favorite. Long before his comment last night, I always watched his program and really admired his commentary. But last night just blew me away. But on top of that...He is laugh out loud funny. He is guaranteed to make me laugh at least once a night. One little thing that bugs me about Olbermann...His obsession with Bill O'Reilly. That kind of creeps me out sometimes :)
Elise...Thanks for watching that!! I have been forwarding that video on to anybody I can think of because it was just awesome. Really I can't think of better words to describe it. That bit at the end "This is the only world we have, and the other guy counts, too". Wow. Sometimes the gushy touchy-feely stuff still works :)
The Cure are similar to Sonic Youth, these are bands that made the History of the Music, and that simply still want to play.
ReplyDeleteWould it bother us more if they sell nowadays like Rihanna or Justin Timberlake?
I don’t care about it.
disaster
ReplyDeleteThe marketing campaign for the new Cure album wasn't the best one (nowdayis you HAVE to give some freebies i.g mp3's pre-listening record and so on) + the website layout wasn't updated until a couple of weeks a go and the band is not touring, making interviews or playing on TV shows now the album is out.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is the world don't want a pop album from the Cure anymore.
I can bet the dark record (if it will have atleast the same quality of 4:13 Dream) will perform better.
I do like the new record, but I think since "The Cure" the band is trying to appeal the new generation more then the old fanbase.
"Meat Hook" is a reggae-ish Cure song.
ReplyDeletehypnagogic is at number 8 in the singles chart in greece i see..
ReplyDelete4:13 dream enters at 3 in Argentina
