"as yet unreleased tracks"

That's the phrase that we've all been curious about since The Cure first announced the 2016 tour, promising a mix of "hits, rarities, favourites and as yet unreleased tracks". What unreleased tracks? Does that mean a new album? EP? Single? The 4:14 tracks? We still don't know. But here's another little clue that something new might be coming.

On the official site, there's been a change in the Words section. The 2005 - ? link is now 2005 - 2009. And there's a new link 2010 - 20?? No lyrics there yet, but why would that change be made unless there were lyrics to be added soon? Very interesting, isn't it? Unless it's just to add some of the solo/collaboration lyrics from the past few years. But lets hope it's for these "as yet unreleased tracks". (Thanks fmjews)

  2. To be fair, this may just be drawing a line under "The Smith / Gallup / Cooper / Thompson Cure"

    1. Could be, but did it take Robert this long to figure out that Pearl isn't coming back? :) Could have made that distinction any time in the past few years. So why now?

Maybe because they need to separate it from The Smith / Gallup / Cooper / O'Donnell / Gabrels Cure stuff soon to come?

  3. Or to add or to add the unreleased 4:13/14 tracks to 05-09??? They surely won't be attributed to the new line-up??

  4. I would like to see him mention the 2011 line-ups haha

    3. Hey mister a review
      A word for salad
      Is written by my friend
      In penman

      He uses long words
      Like semiotics and semolina
      But I counted
      With
      Enigma and metropolis

The lads go rampant on insignificant symbolism
And compound this with rude soulless obliqueness

Everything's coming to a grinding halt
      I use such long words

      It's all clever stuff
All this charming childish fiddling about aims for the anti-image
But it naturally creates the perfectly malleable image

      Tantalizing enigma
      Of the Cure
      They try to take
      Everything

      But the Cure really
They're just trying to sell us something
Their product is more artificial than most
This is perhaps part of their
      Masterplan
But it seems more like their naivity

Everything's coming to a grinding halt
Everything's coming to a grinding halt
Everything's coming to a grinding halt

Note how really songs what are made of (?)
      Murk and marshes
      Tawdry images
      Inane realisations
      Dull dull dull epigrams
Sometimes they sound like an avant-garde John Otway
      Or an ugly spirit

      Toy drumming
      Sprightly bass
      Limited guitar riff

Check the sheet out of my favorite book

      People don't forget the penman
It's just that in 1979 people shouldn't be allowed to get away with
      things like this

      I say.

  6. I really don't see what else 'as yet unreleased tracks' could mean other than a new album. With the tour starting in May you would think that any new release would be out a few weeks before it started at least. New Cure music soon. Surely...............

    1. Agree, pretty sure there's some new music pretty soon... We just don't know the exact date and format.

  7. Do we know if they have a record deal yet? Is the Suretone/Geffen-deal finished? We know RS had some difficulties with them concering 4:13 dream but don't they own the songs from the sessions? So many questions......

    2. All previous record deals are finished. Robert bought out the contract so they could be free of them.

Not 100% sure on who owns the rights to those 4:14 songs, but I'm fairly confident that Robert said they own them.

As of last year, still no record deal. At least none that I'm aware of, and you have to figure if there was, that info would have gotten out.

Robert did mention maybe doing a deal with the new Fiction records to put out 4:14, but don't know what became of those plans.

Like you said, so many unresolved questions! Surely Robert will do some interviews around the tour, and we'll hopefully get some answers.

Then again, given some of Robert's previous answers, that could just complicate things more. :)

    3. I remember reading rights to 4:14 belong to Robert.

When Fiction records started out their Google Plus account in 2014, their first header image was a live picture of The Cure. I asked whether it was just random or if they finally got back together... No answer... But it would make sense... somehow.

    2. Don't know if it's coincidence or what, but shortly after 1000 Yard Stare shared who they'd spotted in the Brighton studio, Roger O'donnell's Twitter account was deleted....or perhaps he'd just had enough of Corbyn 😉 Or perhaps there is something coming....

    3. Roger has quit Twitter a bunch of times. This time it was over the political stuff. That he swore he was going to stop posting. Before posting more. Then swearing he was stopping. Repeat over and over. :)

    4. It would make a great birthday present (for all of us anyway)!

    5. A surprise album dropping before the tour is a almost certainly whats going to happen. We all know how much Bob hates the loss of privacy the internet age has brought, and much preferred it when no one knew a new album was coming until it was officially announced....this new concept, introduced by Bowie with the Next Day, has got to really appeal to him. Theres no way the band are doing such a big tour in Usa and Eurooe with no album attached to it

  11. Robert's Twitter account only follows 2 other accounts. One is the Cure Official and the other is Fiction... maybe the deal has happened. Mind, he could have been following it for ages.

  13. It's been 8 years. You would think they could have put together a Rarities album of outtakes at some point. They must have a bunch of unreleased songs from say Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, The Cure etc. Or why not some Live concerts. They must have great sounding shows they could put out. When their Deluxe Editons came concept was good. In retrospect, they are quite dull. Studio quality outtakes from album sessions would have been far better than home demos. Take U2 and REM, not my favorite bands, but their Deluxe editions are really good. The bonus discs are worth listening to more that twice. Oh well, if they never put out another thing....they still left us with a great catalogue to listen to.

    1. Theres an awful lot they could have done in those 8 years but clearly Bob was busy just living his life and playing festival gigs to keep the band alive. Its not like they need the money.

    4. The "New Album spell" is very intresting. But i heard it could backfire and create a NU-metal album if you are unlucky. So be careful.

    5. I can't believe you guys think this is spam. It's obviously Robert in disguise, trying to drop some hints about the new album.

Clearly this is a 10 track concept album about the lure and legend of spells, magic, and Voodoo, with Dr. Ogundu as our main character throughout the songs.

Man, the stage show is going to be wild on this tour!

Thanks for the hints, Robert...I mean Sandra. ;)

  17. This is but a simple labyrinth for those who have accepted Knowledge. On the beaten path there are many Botes yet no track sevens. You can beat the devil at her very own game. The new album Disorientation was released on the death star, exclusive only. Your ears will grow larger and larger after today but less and less you will hear in the future as your corpse decays. Only time will time erase this memory of you.
