YouTube videos being removed

Looks like The Cure are having many of the Monterrey and El Paso videos removed from YouTube. Very disappointing, but certainly their right to protect their property.

    1. Yes I would. Thank you. I won't post the link anywhere.

  2. well this is really unusual. I thought their official policy was to not care about bootlegs so long as no one was making money off of them. Disappointing.

    1. Yeah, this is certainly a new policy from them. Going to take it as yet another sign that the next trilogy shows are coming soon, and they don't want everyone to see the previews.

Then again, they are removing all songs, not just the new additions to the sets.

I really don't know and was seriously disappointed when I saw this.

    2. This youtube/dailymotion affair is a bit to much. And it´s so boring to have hundreds of camera during a gig. A few songs from a show, ok but the whole stuff, it´s not fair. And it´s not only social networks. On facebook there are guys selling a dvd from the LatAm tour and presenting as it was kinda official. I don't agree with that.

  3. It might not be coming from The Cure. YouTube is known to be aggressively proactive sometimes.

    1. "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by The Cure."

Seems pretty clear. And there have been thousands of Cure uploads, why would YT get aggressive now?

    2. It might be some entity connected with The Cure that is still not the band themselves. This whole situation is very odd because how in the world is the band losing money by these things being posted? Are they able to make the case that money is being lost?

  4. I don't know if this is strictly related, but many of Reeves posts on Facebook recently have been highlighting articles on the destructive nature of streaming music online.

  5. It's a YouTube algorithm and music publishing houses that will automatically take down unauthorized music videos.

Notice all the old stuff is still up.

  6. It's to bad because those El Paso videos were really nice quality, and i didn't get a chance to download them :(

  7. Morris, I think you are right. I've been hearing more and more about the algorithms going and automatically yanking stuff.

  8. Does Roger have the answer? We know he visits this site from time to time.

  9. Strange indeed, I mean it's not like they are going to have trouble selling tickets to the next trilogy...

Perhaps it will be a more extensive tour due to the popularity of those albums? Who knows

  10. Either way it's obvious they are prepping for the Top/Head/KM trilogy. My prediction is these shows will happen in late April/May.

  11. Another question why are they so concerned with these bad quality videos when the entire trilogy DVD is on YouTube as well as plenty of other full concert videos including reflections

    1. If Trilogy is there, it´s allowed by The Cure with fees or not.

  12. The el paso show was professionally recorded by sound crew. This might point to a potential future official release and would explain the copyright claim.

    1. I was considering that possibility.

    2. Exactly what I was thinking. I saw at least 4 microphones set up to record near the soundboard in El Paso.

  13. I think it's like infemination says. It might point to these shows being prepared for an official release

  14. Robert has been recording all shows Professiionay in multi track for years. It is doubtful that the fans will ever see them.

  15. Anyway - true fans should just enjoy The official releases and hearing the concert once at the show. If the show was meant to be heard more than once, the band and music labels Would make an official release.

  16. The bottom line is no one knows why those particular videos were marked for take down. There are lots of other El Paso videos still on YouTube, and scores of the Monterrey show are still up.

I guarantee you Robert knows nothing about YouTube videos or requests take downs...

I know lots of content creators who get videos pulled all the time from YouTube for just having seconds of unauthorized video in their uploads! It's crazy.

If the band was hard core about unauthorized video, they could go after all the live videos on YouTube spanning the last 30+ years and have them removed! That should tell you all you need to know about how they feel about the subject.

  17. DANG IT! I missed alot of those, argh

  18. I'm disappointed too, but I'm glad to have seen the amazing video of Sinking... it made me cry and smile.

  19. I was front row in El Paso & I may have taken those "awesome" videos of Sinking & The Baby Screams & more but woke up Saturday morning with tons of email from YouTube about my videos & copyright infringement & how they were too close to the original sound & that they were all deleted! I only wanted to share my wonderful experience with other fans. Now they're just sitting on my iPhone. A friend is looking for someplace to host them though. I do have them on Facebook but wonder if they will go after the videos too.

  20. From Roger on Facebook a few hours ago: "Just want to make it clear that the band have nothing to do with the removal of videos from Youtube and that its the rights owners that do it... Universal or whoever. It doesnt come from the band who have always had a very open attitude to taping and videoing..."

That's comforting and good to know. When time permits, I will try and find a way to put mine back on line. (YouTube actually suspended my entire account last night!)

    1. Thanks for the update, Olivier. Yeah, it doesn't sound like it's the band themselves. But who owns the rights to an audio/video playback of a concert that was never officially released?

      Delete
    2. They don't own the rights to the playback of a particular concert but the rights to the songs themselves. (Regardless of who is performing: it even applies to covers!)
