The Cure plays Lollapalooza on Aug. 4th

Now official! The Cure plays Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL on Aug. 4th. 60,000 single day tickets (20,000 for each day) go on sale April 3rd at 10am central time. Watch the lineup video here.

Perry Farrell:  "It is so exciting to have The Cure at Lollapaloooza for the first time because I love The Cure and we've never had them. It's always frustrated me and made me feel incomplete and now I can feel complete and die."

Now added to the list of shows at the official site, too. And Robert has added "...AND MORE TO COME!!!", so let the speculation start! You want to add more festival shows, Robert? How about Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans on Halloween weekend? Make it happen, people! :)

Update (04/03/13): Don't forget that single day passes go on sale today at 10am central time. They will probably go in a flash, so be ready. Good luck! Update: And all sold out now.
If you missed out, there are still 3 day passes available with the travel packages.

Update (05/14/13): Set times are out, and The Cure are only getting 2 hours (8-10 pm).

    1. Thank you, Jo. Did okay. Not what I wanted, but at least I'll be seeing them. And maybe I'll get upgrades later on. :)

    2. Congrats (I will try the Amazon DM presale on Wednesday).
As for Lollapalooza, do we know for sure that they will play on the 4th? (I missed that in the announcement.)

    3. yay that you got tix...... I'd imagine there will be a lot of wheeling and dealing for better ones closer to the date - there usually is :)

    1. Yeah, bad day for the official announcement, but the lineup leaked out days ago and was 99% confirmed already.

This just makes it 100% official. Promise it's not and April Fool's joke.

  3. The 100,000 tickets will probably sell out.
3 day-passes alredy gone. Only 20,000 1 day-tickets available. Be careful for Niigata too as I red that the big rock festival in Tokyo with My Bloody Valentine and Blur were cancelled (hope it's not a 1rst April fool).

    1. No probably about it. Lolla always sells out.

    2. That's true. So The Cure will be playing in front of one o the biggest crowd of their carreer. And Perry will have another opportunity for a picture with Robert...

    3. You do realize that not everyone who buys a ticket for these festivals are going to see The Cure, right? If 100.000 tickets are sold, there might only be 20 - 30,000 people there for The Cure.

Festival attendance numbers are meaningless and inaccurate. No way to know how many are actually at one stage at any time.

    4. I don't know how things are organized there but in main festivals, the big stage hold a biggest part of the overall capacity. When a headliner is on stage for example at Reading, 70-80,000 of the 90,000 gather to see them.

  5. What do you expect now, more to come or it´s done for festivals this year?

    1. I expect more, but we'll have to wait and see if that's just wishful thinking.

    2. A few more North American, Asian and European festivals, I hope.

    3. It´s good that they play, no matter where but last year and this are full of festivals. It´s ok anyway but a small scale tour in other parts of the world would be awesome too.

  8. Ugh I would love to go to lola, wish I had gotten the three day passes before they started selling for over 300 on stubhub, bastards. I'm hoping for some non festival North American shows, maybe one in Toronto.

  9. Even though I can't attend any of them, I'm SO happy about these shows! Just love that they're touring and playing, anywhere in the world. There's still a little part of me hoping for a European date though. Then I get to see them this year ;-)

  16. Phew! That took over 30 minutes but perseverance paid off!

  17. Well it was super easy for me here in Sweden... even had time to create an account and book in 4 minutes and all that for $95!! Sweet:)

  18. Still on "Front Gate Tickets standby page" ...

  19. This is totally uncool!!! I know that I need to prove my "fandom" for the band, but this is crazy! Does anybody think that there would be some on sale tickets later? Anyhow?

  20. I missed out. When I got through the Standby I selected one ticket and it said there were none left at that price. I tried the 105 tickets but got the same message. Gutted.

  26. 2 hours! That's not nearly long enough to satisfy the die hard fans (like me)! I was hoping for 3+ hours like the LatAm shows they just did in April. I wonder who planned this and if Robert will summarily ignore the requests to exit the stage, like he has done before. I hope so.

    1. I foresee The Cure going over, but not by a full hour. That said, the band is already getting 15 minutes more than any other act.

    2. Keep cool.
It's Robert Smith, you know. And he'll probably try to get a half hour bonus or more. Often, not always, what Robert Smith wants, Robert Smith gets ;)) Good luck Chicago.

    3. Thanks Shawn and davidaftertherain. Yes, you are right. It is Robert Smith after all...so true. He does often get what he wants. I look forward to the show and I would gladly pay twice what I paid for my ticket to see the Cure play for an hour let alone two or 2 1/2 :)

    4. they have very strict curfews and with the cure playing the final night of the festival, i can't imagine them getting any longer to play.

    5. Whose curfew is it, the city government or the festival?

  27. All I want to see is The Cure. I hate festivals and I am going to this just for them, so does anyone know how early I should get there to get a good spot? I'd rather not wait around from for 9 hours if I don't have to.

    1. I would like to know this as well! I've never been to a music festival before (and I never would except for The Cure).

    2. I agree with you, I hate festivals and would rather just see The Cure.

    3. there are so many good bands on the bill. enjoy the day and check out some others before the cure.

  28. In 2011 it seemed like Perry had zero interest at all in ever booking The Cure for a Lolla event...

    1. "Q: While planning these festivals in South America, how much have you been reminded of the first few in the early '90s?
A: A lot! The people down there are so enthusiastic about music because they're starved for all the talent that we almost take for granted here. When I first got down there, they were asking, "Can you get the Cure?" The Cure? I mean, even 15 years ago they were kinds past their prime. And after this year, when we deliver Calvin Harris and Skrillex, it's over. They're going to be shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world as far as musical sophistication is concerned."

You know, he wasn't exactly wrong.

  29. That's a great lineup (except Mumford and Sons which is just awful, awful music). Now if only The Cure would come to New Englad!
