I wasn't even going to mention this one, but I'm getting a bunch of emails asking about it. VOS and Telam are running articles today that say The Cure have confirmed the April 10th show at River Stadium in Argentina. Problem with these articles? They also claim that the dates/announcement are posted at the official site, and that Porl is in the current lineup. Not true. Again, don't believe a word of any of this until you see an official post from The Cure.
Update (Jan. 10th, 2013): Here's yet another article (English) about this, but at least this one has a sense of humor about it all. :) (Thanks David)

I absolutely agree with you Craig. It seems not everybody in Argentina learnt from all fake rumours these last years.
ReplyDeleteim sure that you dont know anything about argentinian fans. We are very accostumed with the fake rumours. 1994, 2007 and now 2013. The only responsible for this rumours are the newspappers not the argentinian people. Greets.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!
ReplyDeleteI'm from Argentina and everybody here is driving me crazy with these stupid and false confirmations.
To Craig: im sorry i know that you may be sick about those silly questions but if you know a rumour, you MUST post it. Or that is not the "slogan" of chainofflowers? News, rumours and minutiae? Why do you despreciate some rumours about latinamerican fans?
ReplyDeleteBye.
Previously he clearly said he will, he always does on time. He "despreciates" this kind of rumours because they are clearly fake as he explained as the band hasn't officially confirmed anything, as the article says they did. Anyway, let's hope it comes true and finally confirmed :)
Delete:)
DeleteI would hazard a guess that Craig was skeptical about posting this to manage fans' expectations
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part about this post is "don't believe a word"
ReplyDeleteWow, never meant to imply anything against the great fans in South America. Not at all. I just grow weary of these constant "confirmations" from the promoters and the press. Especially when they contain two huge inaccuracies in their reports. If you can't get basic facts right, why on earth would I believe anything else in your report?
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, I have always posted all of the SA rumors over the years. And I've watched the fans there get so excited, so hopeful that this time the rumors would actually be true. Then watched as they would get let down once again. Not fun.
There is good reason to be optimistic this time, and I'd be very surprised if there are not some shows this year, but let's wait until we get real confirmation. Even if the shows are 99% confirmed right now, it just takes that one thing to go wrong with the plans & negotiations, and then it doesn't matter. No shows.
Anyway, there's plenty of time to work it all out. Not like tickets are on sale and the shows are scheduled for next week. Then we could all worry and get upset. :)
I beg you forgive if i was a little in anger. That was not the point. as many of others fans in here Im a reeder since years
Deleteof your blog and I really apreciatte your work, I hope every cure rumours this year come true and i think i missunderstood your words and again sorry . Im weary about this news too as many others.
Greets.
Alvaro. :)

"The group did not return to the country dark since 1987 for fear of Robert Smith, because in that performance in Ferro was frightened by the crowd, said the dogs burned alive and thrown into the air, and who died a hot dog vendor." (loving that english translation...)
