Cure music helps trapped Russian girl

Russian girl trapped for 9 years in her mother's apartment says The Cure “music in my player made my dark days a bit brighter”, wants a poster of the band. (Thanks Vera)

Update (2-28-12): "I know a lot of us Cure fans were hoping to do something like send a Cure care package to the girl. Well, I’ve finally gotten in touch with the journalist that wrote the article and she would love to do something so I’m not sure if it would be easier to just send a few small things, since it is going to Russia, or how we should do it. Anna, the journalist, said she has had a hard time locating a poster and I know we can certainly come up with that. My email address they could reach me at is sjd8826(at)yahoo(dot)com" (Thanks Summer)

Personally, I would hope that the right people read this, and could maybe arrange for her to attend the show in Russia this Summer, and maybe get to meet the band and get a poster/cd/etc signed in person?

  7. Thank you, Summer! I think any chance to help brighten a young person (as well as a young Cure fan's) life is always worth the opportunity. Hopefully she'll be in a better living situation in the future too.

I am married to a CURE fan and have a ton of extra CDs and posters and I would love to mail to her. Could you also please email me her mailing info when you get it - It is the season of giving and this young woman could use more CURE in her life. Thanks so much for posting this Craig...

  11. Thanks so much for posting, Vera and Craig. At first, I thought "cool", but it's so tragic and I'm frightened this poor girl's horrible, insane mother will just lock her up again. What's to stop her from killing her daughter or just moving them both into another situation where people won't know where Katia so she can lock her up again? This is child abuse. What the Russian people have had to endure is so sad, but, equally frightening, is how the corporatization of our culture means the kind of economic bullying the 1% have waged against us, especially the poor, can create these kinds of desperate circumstances in the West; in fact, I'm sure such stories already exist here.

  14. I've got a sealed, remastered single CD version of "Pornography" I'd be happy to donate; I originally lost my first copy and then ordered another, only to find, months later, my first copy. Wouldn't want it to go to waste.

  17. The Cure is one of my favorite bands that I shared with my Ukraine girls. Among the songs that I like are Love Song and the tracks from 4:13 Dream.
